Hi everyone, i kinda got into a weird problem where my note 8's in ear volume dropped significantly.
My speakers are fine, but any calls or voice message via whatsapp/wechat are pretty much screwed unless i play them via speaker phone, and it happened just over night and i can't remember what i did to make this happen.
i wiped the cache and issue still exist, i don't want to hard reset yet, are there any other solutions out there?
Thanks

Wasn't exposed to long periods of water? Check for dirt/dust in ear volume speaker? Any apps you intsall that night it went bad? You rooted or stock? Mess with any of the settings?
I've had a similar issue after an OTA update, but it's not as bad as your issue. It sounds like a hardware issue thought- are you still under warranty?
OP did you use loca glue?

Yesterday, my phone stopped making audio notifications and playing the ringtones when I get calls, it just vibrates. Overnight I did a clean install of CM4.2.13 and still nothing. No audio will play out of it EXCEPT when I answer a phone call, just as I hit talk it will play just the tiniest snippet of my ringtone so I'm fairly certain that there's no hardware damage. Calls go through fine on the earpiece speaker and the microphone is working too.
I've scoured the nets for a solution and found none except one person mentioned something about the radio. Is it possibly that with flashing tons of roms that the radio might become damaged and that I should reinstall it?
I also tried installing the G1 audio hack in hopes that it might right the ship but still nothing. That's all I can think of!
I've looked at every setting and open process for a clue and nothing. There's only one or two diff places I've read about a G1 phone having this issue and from what I read it sounds exactly the same so I'm not totally alone.
Any help would be GREAT. THANKS!
just out of curiosity, when you say you did a clean install do you mean you simply wiped and installed it? Or did you wipe, install the Base, then the new rom?
I wiped everything I could using the RA-1.4 and formatted my SD card.
What would you recommend doing?
if theres no sound, Even when in speaker phone, U might have blown the speaker. Not sure where its sold at...
I have a same problem. Any ideas?
Bump bump ba-dump.

That sounds a lot like hardware damage to me. Your speaker might be fine but the connections to the speaker could very easily be damaged causing only part of the signal to get through.
If you did a full wipe of your phone too (including the radio/SPL) then i would certainly say it isn't a software problem.
Yes, I've wiped EVERYTHING. I actually reverted back to stock everything and then did a CM install.
Got the same problem here.
No sound from rear speaker. It would come on occasionally, when i knock it around a bit but but not for long. At times i can hear it making a really, really tiny sound when i play an mp3. I have to put it right up to my ear to actually hear anything. But most of the time there is nothing coming out the back speaker at all.
Doing a google search on this im surprised at how common this problem actually is and still no one knows whats causing it or how to fix it.
Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Found a fix for my problem!
I played an mp3. Than while playing around with phone i noticed that if i give it a little twist sound would come back on. I then took off the back cover and realized that if push the battery in very slightly i would get sound! So all i did was stick a piece of double sided tape to the back of my battery and that seems to have taken care of this issue!
Man, im i glad to see that one sorted out!
Hope this is of help to anyone!
So it's a dodgy connection? I must say, the G1 isn't the most well-made phone ever ><

Yep! Looks that way. Im about to open it up and see what the situation is.
Found the problem!
Opened up the phone last night. Took out the problem speaker. It has 2 springs comin out of it, which are supposed to make contact with the board. All i did was strech them a little and all is good now. Even took out the piece of tape that i had stuck on the battery for a quick fix.
Hope this helps.
Hi Forum,
I orginally posted this topic on the man Q and A board but it was buried quickly with no response. Perhaps this is a better venue to ask.
My phone is roughly a year old, and today I ran into a weird and potentially phone killing problem
I received a few phone calls from my girlfriend today, the ringer rang loud and clear, but I heard no sound from my ear piece. After a few "Hello?"s, I hung up thinking it was a bad connection. Upon seeing my girlfriend afterwards, she said she heard me on my end. So I got her to call me again and I tried to use speaker phone, and I could hear her fine.
Doing some research on google, I only ran across one other person who had this problem, and upon seeing this, I tested my music player, (as theirs didn't work), and mine doesn't work either
This other person said the problem resolved itself a day later.
In short, my ear piece has no sound during a phone call and my media sound doesn't work (though it works w/ headphones.) My notification sounds and speaker phone DO work, as well as my alarms
Do the notification and speaker phone speakers come from a different place than media and ear piece speakers?
Do I have a software issue? I tried the "push the speaker down" solution but to no avail
Should I wait like the other person?
Any suggestions?
Thanks forum!

I had nearly the same issue, except mine got to the point where the speaker phone didn't work either. Music played fine, phone calls stopped working. I went through a lengthy process of accidently deleting everything I had on my phone, which lead me to buy a USB Jig, install the stock ROM and it worked perfectly. I would suggest trying this before you try and physical fixes on your phone.
Thanks for the suggestion SGT_Watkins
I am an absolute noob when it comes to this stuff. So it took me a while to even figure out what you were saying
BUT, after a whole night of reading and flashing it WAS FIXED!!!
I am quite tempted to phone Samsung and give them a piece of my mind after they told me some hardware was defective even though they clearly weren't listening to what the problem was
Thank you again!
How did you solve this?
I have the EXACT same problem on my Galaxy Nexus. I've wiped it, tried different ROMs, kernels... Nothing solves it! It's like there's a persistent software problem that survives flashing and even battery pulls.
My phone had this same issue not long ago. It was after I had used some headphones for about an hour. I work in a paper converting factory, so I assume some dust was packed in the headphone jack and made the phone think something was plugged into it. I turned my phone upside down and used a paper clip to scrape it all out (compressed air may have been safer). After a few tries, all sounds were working properly again.

Hey guys, I've noticed a weird bug with stock 4.2.1 on my Nexus 4, and was wondering if anyone is experiencing the same thing. If not, then perhaps it is the hardware and not the software, but the nature of this bug has lead me to believe it is software-related.
Let me first say, right off the bat, that I have had no other issues with my phone, and that when I play games or watch movies, the volume is loud, clear, crisp--just all around excellent. However, when I use the speakerphone on a call, it seems to be... quieter than everything else. So I tried playing around with it, and discovered something interesting.
The next time you're in a call, put it on speakerphone. Note how loud it sounds to you. Then, turn the volume down one notch, and then put it back up to the max volume again (I've only experimented with it being at max already, then turning it down one notch, and then back up).
Does it sound WAY louder? And does it sound distorted, almost overblown? Why would it be like that during a call, and why would adjusting the volume down and then back up again have such a result if it was NOT software related? And, furthermore, why would it be blown out and distorted here where as for everything else it sounds superb?
Let me know your thoughts--maybe I need to RMA? I got this one at T-Mobile (I didn't have to pay the equipment installment due to my current plan, so it was cheaper to buy it @ $200 from them).
Thanks!
Same Here .. I believed it was the only with this problem since no one had said.
I think is Software Issue.
Yeah I noticed that no one had mentioned this, but I believe if it's software then it must be affecting everyone. At least, it should be affecting stock users. I guess I noticed this sooner because I use speaker phone when I'm driving in the car, since my ragtag bluetooth receiver that outputs through a tape that's plugged into it and inserted into the tape deck only transmits music and notifications, not calls--for some reason--over the car speakers. Just got sick of plugging into the phones headphone jack every time I got in and out of the car! lol

See but mine doesn't crackle or do any of that stuff during calls or anything else. And it's not blown out sounding during anything other than calls where I have lowered the volume and then put it back up to max right after. I don't think the problem is the same as it is here, it just seems similar, for sure.
Also, when not on speaker phone, the in call volume is perfect and without issue. It's limited to specifically what I mentioned in the original post.
Thanks for the reply, but I'm talking about it being overtly loud and only being so when adjusting the volume down and back up to max, and that prior to that, the volume is just a bit on the quiet side at the maximum. Not crackling/popping/etc!
cool..sorry about that.
Exact same situation with me.little buzz while on call nothing else.

No problem! Appreciate the attempted help =]
So, about 24h ago, my phone lost the ability to dispense and intake sound. Just like that. A peculiar thing is that only audio jack works.
I didn't drop it or hit it or damaged it in any way, nor did anyone else, the phone was with me all the time. It just stopped playing the sound whether it's a ringing or sms or a notif of any kind. Music don't play on speaker, and when a call happens, there is absolutely no sound on either end of the line.
I did a factory reset and a V20b reflash and everything else and... nothing helped
Is it a hardware fault?

looks like a hardware fault to me, but it could be something pretty simple. It sounds like your saying the mic died also? this would narrow the issue down if so.
Did you have headphones plugged in before the issue?

Yes, the mic died, too, because when called, the person on the other end gets no sound whatsoever from my part. It's the same the other way around, which is strange since the mic and ear speaker are on the opposite sides of the phone. What takes out both of them + the main speaker?
I recorded a film with camera while a moderate music played in the room, but there's nothing but crackling.

Yes, maybe 3 hours before I noticed the problem the first time. I listened to music while outside.
If you're aiming at the phone thinks it has earphones always connected, it's not that. The phone clearly registers when they are plugged in and when they aren't by displaying, or not, the earphones icon in the notifbar.
Sounds like a weired issue to me. Once it happened, did you reboot the phone after this isue occured?
If I remember correctly, my old phone (not this one) had exactly same issue, I think rebooting and clearing cache and stuff (not sure if factory reset) fixed the issue. Worth a shot before going to fix the hardware
It's happened to me many times on my last Sony phone. Just keep jamming the headphones in and out and it should clear, the phone still thinks they're plugged in

Yes, a few times. Factory reset and V20b reflash, too (It was on official 4.1.2 anyway), and wiped all the partitions from boot menu.

As I stated in my previous post, phone detects the headphones the normal way when they are plugged in and displays the headphones icon in notification bar, and removes it when I pull them out. Furthermore, music players pause/stop playing the moment the phones are unplugged.

Thanks, I'll have a look, but I'm not really sure what I can or should do.
The thing is, the phone is under a year old and has warranty, so I elect not to open it by myself... yet. Just don't want to leave it at the shop where it'll most certainly spend at least 10 days before anyone even looks at it (because of Easter and International Workers' Day). I'm also baffled by the fact that the ear speaker on top of the phone doesn't work. If it were just the bottom part, I would've gotten a replacement and switched it myself (one part holds both), but it's obviously something more complicated than that and I don't dare to discover what on my own.
In any case, I'll see what I can do about the problem after the holidays and I'll keep you apprised of the outcome.
Epilogue: The motherboard was faulty and they gave me a new phone.
Hi guys I've got a very annoying problem, the volume of the internal speaker, it's very low. When I call someone it's very difficult to understand what the people I'm calling says.
I'm using MIUI 8 weekly ( our last release for our phone)
The phone is unlocked trough the official unlock software.
Any suggests will be appreciated!
Cheers
Could just be your network, not the phone
I wish, but the thing is that all kind of calls are low, whatsapp, Facebook, voice call and whatever..
I'm really going crazy because of that. :silly:
Now I remember that when getting the phone alive back from a brick some weeks ago I got the volume of the headphone low because of the "ear damage protection" and I don't remember how I got it back to a good volume.
But it's probably not your issue. Maybe try to get it back for repair on warranty?

Ear damage protection? Never heard it before.. Let me have a look on Google. So, does anyone else know about this?
About the warranty the phone isn't covered anymore and I bought it second hand.
It says "to protect your ears, don't listen too high" etc... But I don't think phone speaker like yours could be concerned although the Mi Note Pro is the first phone I bought that automatically lowers the headphone volume for that matter. That's why I told you about that.
I just had an idea: did you look inside "accessibility" settings? Maybe their could be some relevant option in there.
Yes.. There's nothing there. I'm really starting to think about hardware problem.
same problem since i'm on xiaomi.eu miui 8. volume is so low when calling on FB, whatsapp, or native calls! i have to wait until i'm inside a quiet room to use my phone since 1 month.
