Help with APK Editor- can't replace apks - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I try to change some icons and pictures of theme I use.
inside the apk theme there's a few apks. What I did was open the apk as zip, and extract some apks I wanted to change their icons and pictures. I succeeded to change what I wanted with APK Editor. Next I tried to replace the "old" apks with the "new" I changed. so I opened APK Editor- "select an apk file"- choose the apk theme-"simple edit"- "assets"- the pencil of the apk I wanted to replace, and when I choose the "new" apk I changed, nothing happen. the apk didn't replace. I tried to do so with "select apk from app" but it won't find the theme.
I tried to copy past the "new" apk but I get an error when I try to install it.
Am I missing something? how can I change icons and picturrs in a theme?

No one knows?
Edit: nevermind I figure out how to do it

[TUT] Build Metamorph themes on your phone

Go to market
Download mm, ninjamorph, silver edit, and astro.. While here pick up a random icon pack... (your first morph)
Open silver edit..pick new xml.. Here is a template. Replace the dashes - with less than/greater than < .. They won't show on xda
-?xml version="1.0"?-
-themename-Theme_Name-/themename-
-themeversion-1.x-/themeversion
-screenshot--/screenshot-
-author-that's you-/author-
-authorweblink--/authorweblink-
-phone-Samsung Vibrant-/phone

-path-/system/app/-/path-
-description-changes the...-/description-
-item-framework-res.apk-/item-

-description-Morphs the ...-/description-
Open ninja morph, choose the apk you want to modify.. The images you want to change are in res folder in the drawable dir.. choose the icon and replace it with one out of the icon pack..
Open astro.. Go to android themes.. Make new directory, Theme_Name.. Open the workspace folder..this is where the changed apk is... Copy res folder.. Paste it inside Theme_Name.. Delete everything but drawable... Open the silver edit folder in astro and copy Theme_Name.xml and paste it with your new res folder... You just made a morph on your phone...
Open meta morph..start checks and chose existing... Click Theme_Name and Theme_Name.xml, apply all...
Your original images from your apk are in backup inside android themes...
Thanks stericson for 2 apps..
My phone has been flashed more than Girls Gone Wild..

Is metamorph able to put in modified XML files as well? If so, can you explain how this is done? I tried updating some XML files in framework-res.apk via metamorph with no luck...
If i compile + sign my own framework-res.apk, then it works. But i like to use it in metamorph instead so I can change things on the fly.

do you recall where you read it? and is there some sort of workaround? or is it just not possible?
I think I read it in the meta morph topic in the android theme forum..there's another meta morph thread there

Metamorph only replaces files... doesn't add new ones... so if its a new xml going to have to use an update.zip

I did everything by the guide in the first post but when I try to install the theme in metamorph I get the error The theme you selected is invalid because the theme control file could be missing, or is not correctly written.
Any help would be much appreciated.

How to edit data within apk files?

Well I got an app from the market and some of the info in the app are completely wrong. I messaged the dev but no response. So how can I edit the text myself?
Rename the .apk file extension to .zip and then view the files within using a hex editor. Make your changes and then use the market app to resign your apk.
There are a number of zip apps on the market that will let you extract as a normal zip, also...

Just figured out some strange behaviour while saving in APK Edit.
Looks like aatp (wich I use in the background) can't handle external resources that well.
No real solution yet, just a pointer...
Try APK Manager instead?
i've never considered this, but can we really just rename an apk to zip and view its contents?
i just tried this with the gmail app (bad example to use?) and i can see the manifest file and res folder, but i cannot see any of the activity java classes or anything. i'll look into the apk manager thread.
what are some of the market apps called for this?
i didnt think it would be so easy to edit any apk once compiled. otherwise wouldnt it be so easy to make gmail apk black background, etc?
I use Androzip from the market...

Yes, although you don't get absolutely everything, as some xml is compiled into resources.arsc

[Q] Custom icons on MIUI?

I've been searching for a while (with no luck) on how to install custom icons for your apps on MIUI. I'm talking about individual icons, not icon packs, and not ones in themes.
I've seen this thread but I can't find the locations they are talking about.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Bump
Can anybody help?
I've tried This and it didn't work either.
Transfer your theme file (the mtz) to your computer, change the file ending from mtz to zip.
Unzip it, open the "icons" folder and then you're ready
When finished, zip all the folders again, change it to mtz, and voila!

Have tried it. I change the .mtz to .zip, extract the files, change an icon in the "icons" folder, zip the file back up, change it to .mtz and it doesn't work.
When I say it doesn't work, I mean, when I do 'import theme', it tries to, but no new themes show up in my 'offline themes'.
Also I've changed the .mtz to .rar and extracted it that way, turned it into a RAR again, and changed it to .mtz. Still nothing. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
Do I need my icons template to be the same size as all of my icons? Is something getting corrupted, or what do you think is going wrong?
I konw that the import themes works for normal themes though because I've done it.

converting icons to miui

is it possible to change/mod icon sets to work with miui? how do i get icon packs in the psd, png, jpg format into an mtz to work with miui, i was specifically looking at the pace icon set and dope icons by filipovsky.
it's easy, download a miui icons themes or a miui theme .mtz, change .mtz in .zip. Open it with winzip or 7zip. Inside u may have a icons file, unzip it and add .zip in the end. Then open it with winzip or 7zip.
now u have the icons of the theme.
If U want to replace some or all , be care to keep the name of the icon u replace, because it's the name of the Application in miui.
thank you for your reply i will give that a try.

You have to zip it properly. open the icon folder and select all icons, then right click and go to 7zip add to archive. take resulting zip and rename to icon and put it in the theme folder . select all files in the theme and right click and 7zip add to archive again. rename to .mtz and apply

You need rename each image to right package name, or it will not work with miui, when you done , put all theme in one folder, zip all files ( not folder ), and change archive name to "icons" with out extension , then add "description.xml" and maybe some preview image, and zip both these thing to one zip file and rename to "YOUR_NAME.mtz" and it should work .
Sorry my bad english :fingers-crossed:

"You need rename each image to right package name, or it will not work with miui," i think this is where im going wrong but i dont quite understand what im supposed to be renaming them to? i've been trying to convert these....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27402389&postcount=16
so some of the names are cup.png , microphone.png, what would i rename those too before i zip them all up?
thanks.
Well the easiest way would be to take an existing icon folder from a theme with many icons and copy the icon names to the corresponding icons in your folder.

I went ahead and converted those for some practice. I removed the ones I didn't know what to do with, like the cup and star, for example. all are working except the $ which I wanted to be Wallet, but I haven't figured out the name yet.

You won't be able to do that with a signed apk. It might be possible to replace pngs without unzipping. Try opening the apk as an archive and dragging in the new pngs.
