How to make the navigation bar transparent? - Moto G5S Plus Questions & Answers

I would prefer to do this without rooting the device, if possible. I got this app called Custom Navigation Bar that let's you make some modifications to the navigation bar like changing the order of the back, home and recent buttons. There is an option in the app called immersive mode that turns the navigation bar transparent but also hides it automatically. I just need the transparency without the auto hiding. By default, when you open an app, the navigation bar becomes black. I want it to stay transparent. How to do this without root, if possible? If not, what is the process for a rooted device? I have the Moto G5s Plus, Android 7.1.1 Stock ROM.

I had it with Nougar using Nova Launcher. I updated the phone to Oreo and that option is not available in Nova. I read a lot of threads and didn’t find and answer Immersive mode is not what I want.

The recents button always displays "no recent activity" after I installed apex. There doesnt seem to be a way to access recently used cached apps.Id like to see what apps are running in the background.
Any way to fix this?

Can you add an option to keep the navigation bar enabled on desktop and application drawer. I mean only the apps go for this semi immersive mode keeping the desktop and drawer with the navigation bar. Because apps would look awesome in this semi immersive mode which is not so much important on desktop and drawer, especially with kitkat, which has transparent navigation bar. Thanks

Make the nav bar smaller??

Do we have any way to make the nav bar smaller yet ? It's so big and takes up so much screen retail!
If you're not rooted and don't plan to do it, you can download GMD Immersive from the Play Store for free. With that app, you can hide the navbar and/or the notification bar. Upgrading to the Pro version (through an in-app purchase) lets you set Immersive mode for each app individually. There's still some bugs to be worked out for Lollipop, but it's almost perfect on KitKat.
I think GMD some apps for root, too, that might be useful for you. Just search "GMD" in the play store.
Appreciate the response. I downloaded it but it requires root. So I can not use it unfortunately
GMD Immersive? I'm completely unrooted and I'm using it as we speak...
I'm hoping the designers will shrink it in upcoming versions of android. Considering the notification bar up top is shorter than it used to be, it really looks off balance with super-tall nav bar.
I used to always shrink it to match the notification bar height with xposed.

Question A couple of questions about gestures and dark mode

Hi,
I had the phone for a bit more than a week and yesterday I installed the xiaomi EU ROM. Until now I was using the navigation bar buttons because I hate Xiaomi's launcher, and I thought that with the EU rom the gestures would work with nova like in my previous Oneplus phone. It seems that that's not the case, and if I install Fluid Navigation gestures, even if I give the application root acces the "hide navigation bar" feature does not work. Does anyone else use nova/another third-party launcher and managed to make it work with the vanilla gestures or FNG?
On the other hand, I've seen that that "force dark mode" thing does more harm than benefit, since a lot of times I get dark fonts over dark backgrounds or it even turns some of my dark mode applications to light mode by inverting the colors. I had to go to the dark mode settings and disable every app individually, and if I install a new app I have to go there and disable it. Is there any way (even if it need root or a magisk module) to disable that globally?
Many thanks for your help!

Under settings/display/more dark mode options you have additional settings for each app separately. For some of Google or other apps you have to disable dark mode options because the original dark + miui cast sometimes gives weird results.

That'a a bummer. I'm currently waiting until I can unlock my device and was hoping that the gestures issue would be solved by installing the EU rom as well. I'm currently using FNG + the nav bar but would really like to be able to ditch the bar entirely.
Hoping there will be a fix soon.

Complete fullscreen on Android 11

Hi.
I've been using overscan through ADB to completely remove the status bar and navbar for a while as I don't want any unnecessary clutter on the screen and want to maximise the space I actually use, and yesterday when android 11 was finally rolled out I found out overscan's been removed.
I was wondering whether there is a way on android 11 to completely remove both while also having the current app fill the entire screen, punchhole included (no black bars or otherwise unused space); I tried using "fullscreen: the one immersive mode" but the bars still come back from time to time like when I go into the recents menu, and it doesn't solve the unused space issue either. Therefore, any solution relating to "immersive mode" likely won't work.
I use nova launcher which also hasn't been working since the update, Fluid Navigation Gestures (FNG) which is way better than the default gestures but now can't hide anything as it tries to use overscan.
Apart from this, the new update is neat; just to clarify, I want to get rid of the navbar and status bar with no unused space left over on either edge. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
I'll probably end up having to root, I don't know where to start there though so I'd rather not.
To enable full-screen mode, there are modules for Magisk
