I have no idea. You're more then free to decompile the APK and check for yourself.
EDIT: It's probably due to the app being debuggable, which is used to show Google Feed.

I never got GNL to work. I've cloned and installed it, but it doesn't do anything - so I don't know. But I also haven't dug into what Motorola or Google has done, so I can't say what the issue actually is.

Get Nova Launcher it also allows locking of the home screen so it can't be changed by accident.
That is one of my favorite features.
You can add a line to the build.prop to get launcher rotation and a line to add lockscreen rotation.

Just install the .apk from that link given above and then use Link2SD to make it a system app.
Just restart your phone and Google Now pane will be working like a charm. It's a beautiful launcher, BTW! Haha

How do you make it a system app, can you explain me,thanks.
Sure! Choose the launcher from the app list on link2sd, and once you've done it, click on the three dots at the top right corner of your screen and select "convert to system app". Make sure you have root enabled and ready to go.
You must restart your phone in order for this change to take effect.
Plot Twist: On my screenshot it says convert to user app, because it has already been converted into a system app. Good luck!

This one worked for me. Thanks.
Hey guys! Me again... lol
I thought some of you would like to have the latest Launcher from the Pixel 2 XL like me... It works with the latest Android 8.1 that Google just released for our phone. All you need to do is download the apk and move it in /system/app/ and changed the permissions to "RW-R-R" with your favorite root explorer! Once you've done that you will have to reboot your device and you'll be good to go! Everything works flawlessly. Notification dots are working and you can also change the icons shape etc... Anyways, Here's the link:

Unlock them by enabling developer options. Go to settings-system-about phone and tap build number a bunch of times until you see developer mode enabled. Now you will see the option in launcher settings to change icon type.

There is no way to remove the weather widget on the stock launcher. You would need to use a third party launcher, ex Nova launcher.
