Hi!
We've got some kernels improving efficiency/performance of our 4X. I have a request for our dear developers: can you create a kernel improving lenght of battery life? I (and many of LG Optimus P880 users) think baterry life is a weak point of Optimus 4X, so it will be really helpful if you create such kernel. What do you think about it?
Regards, Y2J
- Sorry for my bad English -
Battery is something all devs consider, some are already including fixes for baseband wakelock. To get more juice what you really need is to restrict the number of cores to [email protected], keep your brightness lower and undervolt by 25 millivolts if your kernel supports it. All phones of this calibre are battery hungry, I'm afraid you must get used to that and use whatever our few devs make available to help

Can you tell me what kernel resolve baseband wakelock? I have a huge problem with that..
its not the kernel or the mod, that drains your battery.
its the installed apps.
for example: if you have skype, facebook and google search installed, the battery lasts half as long as without these apps.
especially skype is the devil, because it does not have push mode, so your phone will never go to deep sleep mode when skype is running.
google search is also a big battery drainer, same goes for facebook with its 35 services and processes always running.
deinstall/freeze these apps, and use icq, facebook chat and skype with "im+ pro", which _has_ push notifications.
my battery always lasts at least 3 days with normal use, and i am on stock 20a.
the only thing i do is using a taskmanager and kill all tasks i dont want running to free up memory (i use advanced task killer free for that, it memorizes the tasks it should kill).
when i had skype and google search installed, i sometimes had this weird battery drain, too, that sucked my battery empty in some hours.
after i froze these apps some month ago, i never had this again and everything is running smooth.

Might I add you can keep these apps and use greenify if they are necessary to your use

My battery is not drained. I am power user, so my battery lifes about 12h. A lot of useless services and stuff from CM has been frozen by me. I just think that energy-saving kernel should be created cause not all of 4X users are gamers. I (and they) will be very happy if our LGs can be used some hours longer. I don't use Facebook or Skype apps. I have less than ten apps from Google Play installed. There aren't battery-draining apps because I have checked them. Sorry for my bad English.

I get what you're saying, but custom kernels generally provide the options for either performance or battery life. Configure your kernel based on your needs. The only way battery life is gonna improve more than the current tweaks allow is something completely built from scratch with battery life in mind from start to finish. As far as I know since dexter left only kholk is capable of it, most kernels here are just a stock base with some good addons. Just give it time and see what comes

I seem to have this too, but 1% drain over an hour and a half with 3G on doesn't bother me. Is yours worse? There's a few kernels with an attempt to fix this implemented, dunno if it works though

Well like me, 19mins out of an hour and a half is quite big, I charge my phone overnight but even when I have left it I have only lost 3%, I only recently starting investigation of the wakelock on my phone, if I am able to replicate the drain somehow I will share as I have had peculiar drain, only once ever though

For all of you, that have huge battery drain over night (20-30%), i might have solution that helped at least 10 users. It happened to me shortly after flash to v20a. All you need to do is to factory reset phone and in "Software update" software decline terms and conditions of LG update service.
After this procedure I have 1-3% drain per night (8 hours). By Wakelock Detector my phone have only 10-15 min longer awake time than onScreen time.
Why did you have battery drain, what was the cause? Not everybody suffers from baseband wakelock..
Wait for kholk's 3.4 beta kernel, You'll get Your battery improvement
Do you think he will solve baseband wakelock? Where can I see the development of his kernel so i know when it comes?

How many baseband wakelocks do you have?
It depends..Sometime very little and sometime over 80% during the night! Last night it was only 1% but the night before it was 83%! It doesnt make any sense,it comes and goes randomly..And the settings are always the same(over night no wifi no 3g)
I have been using my phone on wife since about 7 am. Since then, I have done maybe an hour of browsing on chrome, installed an app or 2, watch a short YouTube video, checked my email once, and played a game for 5 mins. I saw other people's battery stats and it says they have 20 plus hours of talk time? Mine says there is only 3 hours left. Is it possible I have a faulty battery? I'm also using juice defender and power save along with the brightness all the way down. I'm running android revolution hd with elemental kernel. I have the att version. Thanks in advance.

I find that based on my usage habits that I get terrible battery on Android Revolution v12. I always find myself going back to a rooted AT&T Sense build, and I'm able to pull 3 hours of screen-on time with 20% left.
Be sure to use a Wakelock Detector to pinpoint any rogue apps that are keeping your phone awake when it should be sleeping.
Also; be careful with those "Juice Defender"-type apps, Android has come a VERY long way in managing RAM, and resources since 2.2 (Froyo).
Report back with any findings
Don't mean to hijack the the thread but im having a rather peculiar issue 3g and wifi are eating away my battery like a percent for every 2-3 mins that also while only browsing web nothing else in the background can anyone help . Also im on stock rom , no root and s-off
P.S auto sync is off few apps have been disabled like (play store, facebook , google + and google search and few more)
jucie defender and power saver lol over kill i bet they are working against each other

I have about the same hours on stock rooted AT&T 1.26.502.12. Updating to stock rooted 2.24.401.1 has about the same hours, but it's only been about a week and I'm constantly flashing the new ElementalX kernels, so it hasn't settled.
Also, running at 1.2ghz and intellidemand/fiops.
I think my battery might just be bad

what? or do u mean WiFi
you should use GSAM or wakelock detector to view if something is killing your battery, I have a very VERY good battery life specially since I updated to 2.24 firmware, i guess you don't have root
Check the ss I posted of gsm, and I do have root. Also, what does it say in talk time left in gsm battery monitor when you have full battery?
My battery life was great until i flashed new firmware. i'm on ARHD ROM and it was great on 11.5, with 12 i started using nova launcher and now battery life isn't as good as it was previously. Have you experienced changes with your battery life while using some custom launchers? Or that's rather caused by new firmware/rom/radio/etc?

if i was you I will do the following
-update the **** out of your ONE (firmware and ROM)
but since it would be to laborious, I probably do the following:
1 Factory reset, in android (backup your things becaus it will be erased if you do a factory reset in android, or just dont do it!!!!!!!!) and in recovery (or only in recovery =.=
2 Install a custom rom that is near to a stock rom like ARHD (do it two times with full wipe)
3 with titanium backup remove (after do a backup) the htc bloatware crap that you dont use
4 with titanium backup remove the gapss that you could download from playstore, like youtube, gmail, and specially MAPS
5 GREENIFY all apps that you dont use commonly, you will be able to greenify apps like maps and youtube
6 DONT USE SEEDER OR ENTROPY MODS!!!
7 DONT USE battery saver apps
8 set battery saver option: cpu, vibration, and if you can get use to, mark the data connection option too...
9 Use lagfix app...
10 download Trickster MOD and set you gobernator to MSM-DCVS (this could cause a little lag when you turn on your ONE)
allow to pass one day with you fresh rom, and the following day check how is your battery life
11 if you still have a not soo good battery life, try disabling media storage in apps configuration menu, maybe you have some corrupted media files that dont let media storage to scan all of your media and check if your battery life improve, if so, you should clean your media files, (because let disabled the media storage app have very high side effects)
optional
12 use mods related to a battery life of pimp my rom
13 disable location update from maps, and all location things from configuration (enable when you need them)
14 disable all autosync things that you could do manually, like dunno facebook
15 disable auto update hour and date
+++ disable google now
more optional sh*t
16 when your phone is fully changed in android, turn it off and let it charge until the led change to green, do that one time every two or three days
17 battery stats wipe whit any app of playstore
18 manage your brightness screen manually (its easy and fast in android 4.2.2)
fin...
normally i get 5:30 and 6:00 hours screen on time with a very good use (3g) but one day i get these results
BTW download the app batteryDrain is very good to check how your battery is draining
...And set the option in GSAM that show statistics since last full charge, and dont plug your phone because it could reset the statistics (well if you are reviewing your BLife that could be a problem since stock battery report of sense is almos usless)

Hello folks,
I got a SGS with carbon custom rom. It is running Android 4.2.2 . My battery life is pretty bad, i lose like 30% over night. I already reduced screen brightness but mobile standby still eats a lot of battery.
Would a new kernel solve my issue? Can someone recommend one, please?
Thank you.

It's not kernel. Install gsam Battery Monitor and check which apps are draining your battery. And check your wakelocks .
Try to greenify apps like viber, facebook etc
As you are also using 4.2.2 it has battery drain fast bug.

4.2.2 based ROMs have in general very high battery consumption. On the i9000 4.2.2 gives the very shortest battery life.
CM10.2 works much better, provides around 50% longer battery life and is faster
Thanks for your answers. I checked battery usage and wakelocks but there are no abnormalities. The highest amount of wake lock is caused by exchange but it doesn't seem to be the culprit of my battery problem. The device is awake only 9% of the time.
I found that mobile data causes the drain. When turning it on and tethering the connection I lose half my battery within 20 minutes. The battery usage is about the same when only using mobile data, without the tether.
I have installed semaphore, it gives me excellent standby times when not using mobile data...(2% over night)
2 questions: would flashing a new modem/radio solve my problem?
Is 4.3 suitable for daily usage? My current ROM is very stable and I wouldn't want to upgrade to 4.3 if it doesn't work well.
Also, I need tethering, does that work on cm10.2?
Thank you
UPDATE: I flashed Android 4.3, semaphore kernel and a new modem. I will observe the battery consumption over the next few days.
I have got my one plus 3t about 2 weeks ago. I have noticed that it's screen on time is never over 4.5 hours. I've read people saying their op3t SOT is over 6 hours.
Currently it's running oxygen OS 4.0.3 (Android 7.0)
I can't compare against the SOT in marshmallow because after I bought it I instantly upgraded to android 7.
I followed some steps suggested in several forums that should fix any battery drain issue such as wiping partition cache from recovery mode, clearing Google play service cache, turning on doze mode from DEV mode. It didn't get much better.
My usage pattern is mostly light to moderate. I use Facebook, fb messenger, aqua mail as default mail app, deezer for music. I am normally on my wifi most of the time. I turn on data for a small portion of the day. I turned of location service and Google location history. My screen brightness is set to about 20%.
Can you help me understand what's the underlying cause? It's not that I'm not happy with the battery performance. It lasts easily a whole day for me. But having more SOT would definitely be great.
Note: Unfortunately can't share my screenshot here as i'm new to this forum.

o.o you use Facebook and Facebook Messenger. To my knowledge they both encompass a whole lot of wakelocks that keep your device running after you put it to sleep. First thing would be to either greenify (if it will help) or delete both of those applications. I dont use em, but if you go to any battery saving thread on android most tell you to do something to keep those apps from running unless you want them to, instead of just, on, all the time doing meaningless things like holding the phone awake.
Without Facebook installed, only whatsapp and surfing, I am getting around 7,5 hours SOT. I'm on freedom os open beta, stock kernel.
on oos rooted with elemental x kernal, whatsapp snapchat and instagram only no facebook or anything like that, i am getting 6 hours screen on time with a bettery life 2.5-3 days 100% to 10%. Obviously i am not addicted to my phone the screen is on about 2 hours a day on average sometimes 3. I have no idea how much screen on time i could get in a single charge if i was a heavy user but i reckon it would be high based on the rest of this post.
Edit: For those on franco kernal i tried it and it was not even close to elemental ex i was get 1.5 days battery at best and that was with the battery profile enabled.

Greenify makes a massive difference. I was using naptime that puts aggressive doze on as soon as the screen is switch off and i was still getting more drain that i wanted (about 3 percent in standby).
Now people will tell me greenify doesnt make a difference, answer me this then. How do i have a screenshot of an 8 hour period over night where i lost 0.1% per hour.

Standby in night seems use less power than in day. I think the reason is that you don't wake your phone at all at night.

Why does everyone find this so hard to believe. At night i would lose 0.6% per hour. With greenify i lose 0.1%. Greenify makes a difference, simple.

Hello
Yesterday i had the phone around 65% at 01h00, in the next morning (around 7h20) i wake up to find the phone at 1%, no wifi/4G/bluetooth/GPS...etc was active, even the battery saver was ON. As you can see in the screenshots, android system drain battery around 400% !!! what's up with this behavior ? happened the 1st time last week (49% drained in 8 hours) the problem seems gone after i fully charge and than reboot, but still today happened.
The phone is almost 1 month old.
The 1st few days, i disconnected the phone from charging at 100% and went to sleep, after 6 hours battery is drained by 6% without doing nothing. is this normal ??? screenshot

well, that must a bug related to optimiztion of the rom, report it to the rom mantainer
Exactly what happened to me same ROM same phone but I didn't root it. it drained from 54% to 6% during the night, next day I switched the ambient display off and the battery became better but so far I am also looking for solutions to make it similar to miui
I feel the battery is draining so much fast when I start using the apps unlike miui but the room is also great and fast , with my light use it gave me 1 day of use and remaining of 10% with 120 fps (3.3%/hr screen on and 0.6%/h screen off )
today I will test it with 60fps

I feel the battery is draining so much fast when I start using the apps unlike miui but the room is also great and fast , with my light use it gave me 1 day of use and remaining of 10% with 120 fps (3.3%/hr screen on and 0.6%/h screen off )
today I will test it with 60fps

Wow, 3.3%/hr is seriously impressive for active drain, especially for 120hz. Can I ask you if you did anything special / your exact setup? I installed Ricedroid 8.0 + Sleepy kernel and applied the GMS Doze module + Naptime (as suggested by a kind poster on here), and this allowed my idle drain to go down to 0.2%/hr, but my active drain is still struggling a bit.

to be honest I am not sure if I report it correctly I have used accubattry app but I will post few screenshots from the app and you can see , I didn't do anything except disable the ambient display maybe my usage is light in default I don't know I also formatted the phone like 20 times during my testing for different ROMs. I found Cr-droid to be the best so far or miui

Ohh the 3.3%/hr is combined use, which takes account of both active drain and idle drain (through what I guess is some weighted average). But honestly, 6.7%/hr (or even 7.8%/hr tbh) is still pretty damn impressive, so I'll thank you for letting me know! Now I wanna flash crDroid haha.

I spent 1 day and half trying all custom roms in this forum because for long time I was on miui and didn't know how custom ROMs are now , after trying I found that all custom ROMs either are pixel flavored or very basic without any customization and I settled with Cr-droid because it offers best of both worlds less google and good customization options.
now regarding the battery after few days of using on 60 fps I have combined use 2.4%/hr and 0.8% screen off but I still feel that it drains fast during my usage compared to Miui , I have only used naptime for optimization do you advise me to add anything else for non-rooted device ?

MIUI very often switches off alarm (not clock alarm) and wakeups -- it's known for long. Your notifications often comes late when using MIUI. In real life situation, however you might never notice it, but it's there. It also sets higher priorities to known messaging, social media apps to receive notification/action faster than any apps that are outside "the list".
It's a good trade off for battery life compares to stock AOSP or lineage which put every apps on generic list of "optimized battery" based on your pattern. It will took a long before the pattern is useable.

I'm not sure about your possibilities on a non-rooted device honestly. I think Naptime can work on a non-rooted device, if you grant a few permissions through ADB first (if I remember correctly, the app itself will guide you through the process). Be mindful of which apps you're restricting though, as Naptime will likely cause delays in the arrival of notifications. You can whitelist apps through Android's battery restriction screen.

Hmm I don't have any further tips honestly, not about these specific things. In my case, using Naptime already improves battery life by a ton over the course of a day (not wasting entire %s in hours of idle time is already huge).
Try and see if greenify or its replacements helps.
