Could my hosts file be blocking add'l AA apps from appearing? - Android Auto General

I don't know if it could be my phones hosts file that isn't letting any apps (AAMirror, Carstream, AnyAuto, etc..) appear inside AA, or if it could be that Google has caught on, and updated AA?
I used a a magisk module 'unified hosts adblock', it really screwed up a lot of other things on my Pixel 2. .
My money would be betting on it being the hosts file.
What does your hosts file look like?
What would one need in their hosts file for these apps to run correctly?
Thanks!

Didn't know that, I made sure 'Unknown Sources" was ticked in AA Dev Options, and I tried searching.
So, I downloaded an AA2 apk and like magic, its working!
Thank you!

Transferring apk's from PC to SD/NC

Hey guys, I downloaded some apk's and transferred them to my sd/NC.
I went into file manager located the apks and click to install and I get the following error "installation of download apks is not supported"
This may have something to do with permissions, but you also may want to give ADB a shot. I know it's a bit of a pain to set up, but someone in the dev. forums posted some simpler drivers. I always install with ADB and it works like a charm.
Check to make sure you have "Unknown Sources" checked under Applications in Settings.
Can also try installing with a different file manager, I use Astro and that works.

i had the same issue with mine checked already, uncheck then re-check it fixed me up and for putting the apk's to nook may want to try dropbox makes things a hell of a lot simpler and here is a shameless plug to get me (and you some free space lol) use my referral link for extra 250mb of space http://db.tt/Zw55leX ;P

Good point, you may need to uncheck and recheck it if it's automatically set to "checked" by default when flashing.
I keep a "new ROM setup" folder on my SD card containing DropBox, RootExplorer,Titanium Backup, adbWireless and Terminal Emulator APKs to make setting up a new system easy.
I download the apk, email it to myself, use the gmail app, open the file, tap install, done. Haven't had any issues with 24+ install. I got tired of ADB to push it.
can a file manager be use to install .apk's that are missing from the market place? currently im missing google maps. ive heard about market manager to trick the market and get the full listings, however should this not work, like some have stated, can i download the .apk from my computer and install it using a file manager?
also for the life of me i do not understand nor can i get adb to work. i know its probably real simple. but im done messing with it, so that option is out.
Same Problem
I've got the same problem. "Install blocked. Installation of download apks not supported."
I've tried all the above suggestions: gmailed it, used various filemanagers, Dropboxed it and no success. I could not figure out how to change permissions....how does one doe that?
I haven't tried ADB - waiting to try everything else before I did that.

does anyone have a legit hosts file?

im sick of these ads.. theyre too distracting and i never click on them anyway..
does anyone have a ad-blocking "hosts" file that works with gingerbread and cyanogenmod or is there an alternate way?
Wrong section, pal. Post questions in Q&A.
Anyway, what you're looking for is at http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm

id rather just replace my hosts file manually rather than taking up space and processing power with an app..
Just use adfree and then uninstall it after it rewrites the host file.

120kb installed. Processing power? lol... what, the whole 5 seconds it takes the app to run and update the hosts file... protip: that hosts file is constantly updated, so to keep blocking things you have to regularly update it.

Clarification: the hosts file that AdFree will download and install for you is being updated constantly - not the one on your phone. You have to run AdFree to manually to actually get the latest copy whenever you want it.

[Q] howto delete old module versions?

using xposed frameworks for long time now, I have a lot of old versions of my modules on phone
where are this module versions stored?
how can I delete this old versions I never will reuse/reinstall again?
Frank
Not sure it will help, as you surely noticed that before. Anyway.... In the "Modules" section of Xposed, a long press on the module you want to get rid of will bring you the option you're looking for.
To add to what Roudier said, modules are just like normal apps and can be uninstalled the same way.
I think everyone misunderstood the question.
I think he's asking where the old versions of each module are stored, as it's possible to uninstall the latest version of a module and install an older version that you had installed without downloading it again.
Basically, where are the downloaded files stored?

That's handled by the download manager, it's usually cleared after a reboot if I'm not mistaken.
Doesn't sound like that's what he's asking about, though.

He's seems to be specifically asking about old versions of modules there.
In any case, I actually wanted to know where old versions of installed modules were stored so I could delete them and your reply provided the required information. They were all in the download manager and were not deleted after a reboot, so I manually deleted the specific old versions of modules that were no longer required. Thanks.

I deleted them via the download manager.
Enter it via "Downloads" in your app drawer, then long press any item you want to delete and a trash icon should show up to allow you to delete them (at least that's how it works on my device).
Hi,
that's easy
I must confess that I rarely used the App Drawer and the download app I've never particularly noticed
This is about to change, thanks for the hint :good:
Frank
You're welcome.

lockscreen disabler for magisk

I'm looking for a module to be created, or if I could do it not sure. Something to do the same as "lockscreen disabler" did in Xposed. Willing to donate. App in question for exchange email is "Email MOTOEMAIL.00.05.0072". Currently running XT1254, 6.0.1, stock rom. Thank you.

maybe it is enough if you download the module-template edit config.sh and module.prop to an ID if your choice and in config.sh also the REPLACE part with /system/app or priv-app/Lockscreen/ ?
something like this maybe? but here ends my know-how

First, that's not a donation you're talking about, it's a bounty.
Second, if it can't be done without Xposed, it can't be done with Magisk. So don't hold your breath.

What? I don't think you understand what the REPLACE part of the config.sh file does.
During installation, that little entry puts a file called "replace" in each folder listed, in the module folder structure. Every time Magisk mounts a module and finds that file it will completely wipe (systemlessly, of course) the corresponding folder in /system.
If you want to replace a file on your device with one you've edited, all you have to do is to put that file in the module zip, under the same folder structure it can be found on your device. After that Magisk's Magic Mount will do it's thing...

thought it disable only the lockscreen.

From what I can tell it disables the lockscreen while tricking apps that require a lockscreen into thinking it's enabled.
Easy-ish with Xposed, impossible with Magisk unless you manually edit the app in question to not detect the lockscreen state and then use a Magisk module to mount it to your device.

That is correct. When i opened phone before it just had swipe up to open. Now I have to enter lock code every time. I haven't done anything with adb before, always do everything from the phone. I've seen the apk "exchangenopin" but I can't try it, cause I can't download the apk anywhere. Those from other thread seem to go to ad sites. I figured that it wouldn't of been that difficult because the exchangenopin "supposedly" works w/o Xposed. That's why I was hoping for a module. I found something to replace my "insert custom text" module from Xposed, now just need something to replace for lockscreen. Lol. Liking Magisk though.
I experienced the same problem with my realme 5i smartphone, I tried to install the latest Magisk via the OrangeFox recovery because I had never rooted my smartphone before. but I have installed pixel 5 archipelago project. In this case, after installing magisk and successfully entering the lockscreen, here the problem occurs because I can't enter the lockscreen PIN and can't do anything, I can't even turn off my phone. But here I found a solution, namely using a google account and trying to wipe data via the Google Play application, namely find my devices and then delete it there and it worked for me

xPrivacyLUA - Export All Settings

Export All Setting is dimmed. I know that's because there's something missing from the kernel (I'm on LineageOS).
Is there a workaround to copy a file from this phone to another phone?
If so, what file? Do I need to worry about the new phone not having all of the same apps?
Thanks!

I think the files are:
xlua.db
xlua.db-journal
with a root file explorer located in
/data/system/xlua
These are the files to delete if having major problems with xprivacylua. It will revert xprivacylua to default settings ie: first installation.
You could try to copy these files and replace them on a different phone.
If you export/copy the settings it only effects the same apps that you've restricted on your original phone to the new phone.
So any new apps or apps that are different from original phone will have to be restricted ( if needed ).
From memory exporting settings will include any hooks restrictions from the repo section as well but may have to redownload the hooks themselves ( just going off memory haven't done it in a while ).

Hidemyapplist is best in hiding apps from other apps and is non detectable. But xprivacy does other hiding jobs better and is detectable too.

This is an old thread. I have Pro, but wasn't able to do it, probably because Lineage doesn't have some piece of Android linked in.
