that is rather upsetting, I was looking forward to horizontl home screen and serrings ... and IntelliScan somewhat :crying:

What Samsung has done in the past is wait until the Second major (last major OS update) update to port over the previous years "cool updates" to that phone. Off hand I'm thinking about when the Note 4 got screen off writing, that was a year after the Note 5 came out with it.

no dout there will be s9 rom ports in the future

would it be possible to port "audio system" so we get stereo speakers capability from S9 on Note8/S8 ?
is there a hardware limitation to this (using earpiece as a secondary speaker for media) or is it just purely software ?

I don't think the dual audio from S9 would work to well, I would imagine the top audio speaker would have a smaller speaker in the middle for calls only on the S9

This can be easily solved with a home screen launcher like Apex Launcher as well as a tool to force screen rotation like "adaptive rotation lock" which works on lock screen.
It might even be able to rotate touch wiz but never tried because the moment I got the phone I put on apex launcher

Oh but it works great in note 8 so I am sure it will work better in s9.
The mod I am using has been working for a few months via magic root add-ons and I won't be able to live with a stock Rom now that I have gotten use to the stereo speakers.

In case someone wants to try it then this is the name of the mod.

I was messing with the S9 Apps Zip that's around here somewhere. I had lots of FC, but I was able to use the AR Emojis, and took pix as a raccoon eating a watermelon, which I've been assured isn't racist.

horizontal home / lock screen is available with build.prop tweak as far as I know:
home screen:
log.tag.launcher_force_rotate=VERBOSE
lock screen:
lockscreen.rot_override=true

I haven't messed with Root for a while, (since introduction of Google safety net/Android Pay/and bank app checking for it) is there a way to edit build.prop without rooting or custom recovery ?

No, you need root for editing the build.prop
But my note 8 is rooted and I still pass safety net with magisk 16.1

When I say AR Emojis... I was wrong. What works is new Stickers. I didn't realize there was a difference until I saw the actual AR Emojis in action. My bad.
I got the stickers to work by pulling the apks out of the zip and copying them with root explorer to system/priv-app If I remember correctly... wherever they usually go.

Settings rotate horizonal.

I just get oreo exynos ver for 3 day as far I try not have stereo neither with ar emoji to maybe next update if sales s9 more good.lol

For people who wants to try the similar Feature of AR emoji, download "meing" from app store.
It makes gifs, videos, and stickers based on your look.
So far I think it is the closest app we can find for AR emoji...Just for the fun part.

Could someone make a apk that allows intelligent scan on the s8 and note 8?

Hello, I'm an user of samsung galaxy s5 Korean variants G900K and last night, I updated my phone to MM and if you guys want to know what has been changed in the new version of the firmware, I will write a list of the change log I found.
1. the app icons are changed into 5.1.1 one except the internet app and SystemUI is same as last version. none of things are changed.
2. When the application requires some permission, you can make a decision whether you allow the permission or not.
3. when the screen changes like closing apps, opening apps, etc... there's an effect zoom in and zoom out
4. when you turn on/off your screen, like galaxy note5, there's an fade in/out effect from edge of the screen to center
5. the multitasking button's responding time has been reduced.
6. the smart manager application have a widget to clean ram and storage.
Finally, the fingerprint scanner's scanning speed is increased and every time you reboot your phone, thought you have set the fingerprint lockscreen, you have to enter the backup password once.
These are what I've found and there might be more than these. Sorry for bad English cuz I'm Korean so my main language isn't English....

Works for me on Galaxy Note 8 Oreo(8.0)
I first installed AR Core V2, then Google Camera and an Apk with AR Ornaments (Stikers)
When I opened Google Camera, the menu contains Last Jedi Stickers and three more sticker groups.
Bug: After Installing Google Camera, I couldn't access the share button ( <) on gallery. It force closes. Neither can i set pictures as wallpaper or Profile Pictures. So I have done a reset now everything works fine. I will try intsalling Google Camera once again later today.
Hope this helps

Since the server pushes update notice to different serial numbers by batches, it may take some days for you to receive the FOTA notice. Thanks for your patience. You may tap “System updates” in [Settings] >[System] to check if there is new firmware available. Or, you can also try to manually update firmware by referring to the following link.
How to update firmware on my phone?
【Release Note】
1. Enable IN Airtel/Idea/Vodafone & ID smarfren & TH DTAC/AIS/True 3rd & RU Megafon/MTS VoLTE & RU MTS VoWifi
2. Optimize fingerprint unlock speed.
3. Improve Camera performance.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Please download and give review about camera and finger print scanner.
PS : Reminding me of my first Motorola Moto G (1st gen) 's frequently updates ( Lenovo killed it though)
Fingerprint scanner is faster now.
Camera slightly better .. especially front camera.
Device is HD capable notification removed with VoLTE icon added in status bar.
New setting under Display named Smart Screen which will prevent screen timeout if you are looking at the screen.
Battery seems to be even better but it's too early to tell.
Face unlock improved slightly.
Yeah the device now supports Airtel Idea and Vodafone VoLTE.
Camera (Especially Front Cam) has improved a lot since last update.
Added VoLTE icon instead of previous 'HD' icon.
Fingerprint sensor is also working more fluidly and efficiently.
Face Unlock is also better than before but still needs a bit fixing maybe with future updates it'll become more secure and efficient.
Attaching a screenshot for those who complained about the Device not supporting Airtel Volte!
We can even alter the temperature of screen within display settings.
Fingerprint and face unlock has surely improved alot.
Camera has now better accuracy in portraits.
But still no support for live wallpapers.
Even, no improvement in audio through wired or bluetooth earphones.
This update removed MusicFX (system equalizer)?
For some reason my MusicFX is gone after this update. Screenshot attached, every music player i have (PowerAmp, Retro Music, Play Music) can't find the system equalizer. How do you report this (and other possible bugs) to Asus anyway?
And yes, fingerprint got better.

The multi touch issue still hasn't been fixed. I thought it will be fixed with the May Security patch. Can anyone else check the same?

Hell Yeah No Equalizer in Play Music! Earlier it had Equalizer settings and although i didn't have any issues regarding the audio quality (I have used K3 Note which has Dolby Atmos) still I changed Equalizer Setting to get more Bass! But Now no Equalizer! No MusicFX. Is there any way to Give Feedback about this to Asus.
**Update** I've found some articles(From BGR) on Google regarding installation of Snapdragon Music App and MusicFX. Originally they were posted for OnePlus 5 but now it shows that the apps can be installed on any Snapdragon Device without Root. So can anyone check whether I should install it or not? will it cause any trouble to my phone afterwards? Please Reply!!!

Yes .. Asus has atleast communicated to reviewers that it will provide bi-monthly security updates.
The updates are minor changes and not major upgrades like MIUI8 to MIUI9 or Nougat to Oreo .. so safe to assume that it will get security patches atleast.

Thanks a lot! So i tested it right away, and it works, at least the MusicFX came back and worked without the need to manually push it to system. Once you installed it, you'll be presented with 2 options when you go to the EQ screen, to use Snapdragon Audio+ or just MusicFX (look at my screenshot). Use whichever you want, it will open the same EQ screen with same setting.
I used the XDA link, there you have the option to download 2, APKs: MusicFX.apk, and SnapdragonMusic.apk. The Snapdragon Music didn't work, however. It forces closes. Don't really matter tho.

will not work.. you will have to flash the 247 fastboot ROM first and then update using the 309 ROM. Remember that with fastboot 247 ROM the bootloader will get locked again (you can edit the flashall.bat file to remove the commands for locking the bootloader). Unfortunately the fastboot method will reset your phone.

Now installed, went trouble-free in 20 maybe 30 minutes. Only few changes here and there (graphics for battery usage, camera, navigation bar gestures). Used Nova Launcher before, now I'm gonna give the OneUI a spin for a while. Screen can accept 5x6 icons (plus bottom row), I don't remeber if that is increased, but was used to 5x7 with Nova.
Saw one (A50) v.10 review on youtube that claimed increased performance in bechmarks, so tried that. Could not confirm any increase with PCMark.

- when taking a screenshot, you get an option to scroll down one or more times, then the screens below get collage'd on, to one long image. That's actually quite clever..
Oh, and one negative : Seems I have now a more or less permanent notification "Samsung account. To continue using services securely, sign in again." Dismiss and it will return shortly. Quite annoying, but googling seems to confirm no solution atm. Hope they decide to remove it later on....

I confirm that A40 outputs audio through USB C no problem (android 10). Using with dac/amp Topping NX4 DSD. I write this because I have read all over net that this does not work, but the gamble paid
Ah that sucks.
You could disable the notificatuo for it tap&hold but its still bad if you want to keep it neat
I'm still waiting for update...
I have installed Android 10 update, and I have noticed now the front camera only shoots in maximum 16MP mode.On Android 9 you could shoot with maximum 25MP mode ,why did they limit something which was already working. Also if anyone is still on Android 9 it would be helpful to know which version of Samsung Camera is on Android 9?
Android 10 version is installed in my phone.
In summary, One UI 2.0 with better Dark Mode support and full gestures that remember me to MIUI implementation.
Battery drops earlier, surely due to new ROM installed and I've to wait for ROM stabilize.

In camera app never I can't set image resolution, only I can set video resolution.
Looks like everyone have update installed except me. I see that it should be already pushed to my phone by the end of May. My girl have the same model and she is happy Android 10 user from beginning of May. Any ideas how to force update or check why it not showing in update section? I already cleared cache for google play services and google framework service and still no update

Question Not all notifications are visible on statusbar

Hi all,
For some reason some notifications are not visible on the statusbar.
They can be seen on the Always On display, and if you pull down the statusbar the notifications are visible there, but not on the statusbar itself as an icon.
I noticed that you can configure each app individually to either show or not, but in my case they all are configured to show the icon.
Might this be a bug? Has anyone else this same issue?
Edit: I just found the cause. Some apps have 'categories' in the 'Manage notifications' submenu. You have to click on these categories and in that submenu you have the option 'Display on statusbar'! No idea why some where set to OFF.

Coming from an S10+ (just like you) you will notice an incredible speed difference. I always believed the S10 was fast (enough). But the Oppo is on a whole new level.
Charging speeds are insane, but that probably is because I have been anti-spoiled by Samsung for so long
It's also worthy to mention that the device doesn't heat up while charging, so it's much more comfortable to hold.
The Oppo is 20 grams or so heavier, which doesn't sound like much, but I really notice it. It's also a bit top heavy, so be careful when holding it
It feels great in your hands though. The back side is indeed fingerprint proof if you get the blue matte version.
The OS has a lot of customization to offer, and I love the (off screen) gestures (I have now also switched from navigation buttons to gestures for navigations).
OneUI has even more options though! Especially if you were using Good Lock. I miss the option to have thumbnails in the task manager. I even miss the bixby button which could be reprogrammed
Face unlock is really fast, as is the FP unlock. If you hold the sensor after unlocking you get a shortcut to 5 favorite apps.
It's a great way to open your hue app or a remote, I just keep forgetting about it and release too soon
Oh, the screen protector is terrible, especially if you want to use the gestures you always move your finger over the edge and it doesn't feel comfortable. So I ripped it off.
Finally I tried out the native launcher, but reverted back to Nova quickly. It's not possible to replace the folder icons by a custom icon.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm more impatient now ! It sound great.
And last question (I promise ) the native apps is it from Google (Gmail, chrome, Google calendar,...) ? Or Oppo (like Samsung mail or Samsung calandar version Oppo ) ? Thanks again
It has a lot of Google apps builtin. I didn't really see many Oppo equivalents.
However, some apps can't be uninstalled, which I hate. Think Facebook.

I have no use for BREENO[in Chinese] or Hey Tap[ seems to replace a familiar Android System admin app] .. Cannot use Google1 to restore old SMS/MMS from my Oneplus5. Cannot select new default messaging app [ TEXTRA] . Cannot , or cannot recall how to select default Launcher [EVIE]. Hope we get ROMs here eventually so to have it behave more like a OnePlus /US phone than a Chinese phone.
Help!

default Launcher? I haven't set one for a couple of years, but now I cannot seem to figure how to choose my own preferred [Evie] , or why I cannot set default Messaging App [Textra], or get back my SMS/MMS that are backed up by Google1 to G-Drive.
How did you get Nova as chosen default Launcher?

I just installed Nova and it set itself as the default.
But if you go to settings and type default app then you can set all the default apps too.

Where did you buy your phone? I guess you have a Chinese OS Version?
I have no Breeno, no textra or Hey Tap.

Example: Settings, Messaging App: only shows choice Oppo-native, installed one. In Textra it prompts to make it default,, but sending a message results in the device declaring for some security reason it is resetting default to OPPO-native. BTW, OPPO-native is a low function featurelss app.
Launcher: old OnePlus5 in Default Apps has category: Home app [Launcher selection] , nothing like it in the choices under Default Apps on the FindX3pro
Google1 blocked from backing up MMS
My preferred File Manager: ES File Explorer pro lets me attempt to attach my G-Drive [cloud], passes through all the steps correctly, only to conclude "Auth Failed". The g-dive is fully accessible using the Google Drive app, but integration with ES is convenient, has been for years.
Any idea on how to address 'security issues' for either messaging or ES File Explorer?

Exactly, AliExpress straight from China. Language: English fine, but perhaps I was sloppy not being sure of a "Global version" . Any thoughts? Patience: Wait for rooting and ROMs?
Where did you get yours? Version?
Textra? I installed. My preferred Messaging App [ LOL, not OPPO's clearly]

I got one from my provider in Holland. International version.
Maybe it is possible to update it with an international ROM? I don't know if the connectivity is working fine too, 4G, 5G?

Sure look forward to giving it a try. Not even sure if there are tiny differences that would make the intl-ROM incompatible. I'm getting OTAs but the Chinese ones I think
[4G coverage good, not noticed or had 5G yet].
Over the last 4yrs I think I only took OTA from OnePlus & rooted it. The 4yrs prior the lock on the Samsung Note4 was never 'broken', Then 3 yrs prior with the Samsung Galaxy Captivate I sure enjoyed XDA-roms & rooting, but that was long ago, & I'm still dependent on skills of others.

I quit custom roms after the S7. And that one had a OneUI based 'optimized' ROM.
Maybe you can try this (I haven't just saw it yesterday in my ColorOS telegram group)
Oppo ColorOS System Launcher [v11.3.520]
New ColorOS System Launcher update – v11.3.520 for OPPO devices: OPPO officially announced the new ColorOS skin version. The new interface brings visual changes including app icon redesign and customization options. The Android 12-based ColorOS 12 brings tons of new features such as enhanced...

Problem with Nova or any custom launcher on any Android 11 phone is that the navigation gestures dont work properly, there is a screen flicker issue when you swipe to go to homescreen. Thats why i am stuck with stock launcher on any new phone i get.
