N950W and Oreo - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Am I able to install Oreo on the Canadian Note 8? Also why does Canada have it's own special Note 8 variant?

All those variants, usa, canada, china, korea, are made to meet specific requests from carriers, why exactly? That I dont know

Ah, doesnt look like the orea update will install onto the n950w variant. ODIN says
"<ID:0/005> Odin engine v(ID:3.1301)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> Total Binary size: 4494 M
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..

The Canadian model is the exact same model as the US model. It just has different firmware.

Oh, looks like I need a better tutorial. I kept getting a thread error like posted above. I'll just wait until july when they release it before the note 9 releases.

Take a look:

I flashed the Telus modem and HOME_CSC after (from the latest 7.1.1).
You need to flash your carrier's HOME_CSC or you won't get carrier features such as VoLTE.

Why didn't it help? You asked where to find the odin files. I answered with a google term you can use to find a site that has the ODIN files.
Because it's asking for the country and USA isn't available. Unknown is available and the build number matches. This is the n920i using it in the USA on at&t
The 920I is not an AT&T variant let alone a US variant so you will not find a build for it labeled AT&T or US. Sammobile is more than likely your best bet.
As previously mentioned, n920i isn't an AT&T (or even a US) device.

Do you think that you can flash other carriers firmware on the Note 8?

On the Galaxy S7 phones in the US the hardware was the same and you could flash other carriers firmware on the phone when you take the phone to another carrier. Do you think you could do that with the Note 8. I see that the unlocked Note 8 is $30 cheaper than the carrier versions. If I can save $30 bucks that would be awesome.
I did that on my s7 edge. My friend did on s8 and s8+. It would be a shame if note 8 does not support it.
I don't see why not. Been able to do that with note 4 of mine.
Anyone done this? I see that 950U1 firmware for XAA CSC is out there on updato and sammobile.

You can do it , But you have to wait for the version comes out for our devices.
I am about ready to test the sprint firmware on my unlocked version...I was waiting for the unlocked formare to go live so I can revert back if needed.

Isn't the XAC (Canada) firmware needed for carrier switch because of the USER_DATA portion?

I'm thinking I might need to have the CSC be "XAA" for the purposes of Samsung Pay on the N950W model.

Is it possible to flash Canadian firmware for US unlocked note 8?

Hello
Currently I have US unlocked note 8 and using Telus which is one of Canadian carriers.
Unfortunately Volte is not available for US unlocked note 8 probably due to different CSC country code.
If I flash firmware for Canadian will I fully be able to use carrier specific features?
Is there any guide for this ?
Thanks for reading.

Hey! I have kind of a similar issue. i bought my s8 from Canada (service provider : bell). When i moved back to India, i needed region specific apps like SPay to work. Then i could manage to change CSC code from BMC (Bell) to XAC (Canada unlocked). However, i need to change it to INS. I downloaded Indian s8 firmware. But i am not sure if i can flash HOME_CSC using Odin as my S8 is a snapdragon variant(obviously) and I'm really worried if it would brick my device. Or if i would not receive OTA's (Because ONE UI is all I'm looking for) . Please guide me here.

You can try to update using this unkown csc. You'll need to use Odin.
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note-9-us/firmware/SM-N960U/CHA/
But the n960u won't have all the cellular bands that are used in your country, it'll have most but not all. You would need a SM-n960F if you wanted it to be fully compatible.

ROMs wont change what cellular bands that are active/inactive
And you should be able to flash using regular Odin, but it won't hurt to use modified Odin to gaurentee that it works. I always use the modified version just because.

where can I get the modified Odin, any thread discuss specific Odin using for specific firmware? can I flash that firmware using Odin running on Mac Os, because I see Odin for Mac os is outdated.
Finally, I successfully flash my note 9 with ROM from https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/ga.../SM-N960U/CHA/, using patched Odin and no problem appears so far. thanks
Whats the difference between CHA and XAA?? they both unlocked? Im in Portugal using a T-mobile unlocked with csc XAA. Any recomendations? thx in advance

Nope no issues as of yet, running really smooth
Works on my ATT 998U!
Reference for others - BL, AP, CP, and HOME_CSC are the same on all carrier G998U models, just leave out the USERDATA file.
So far, everything works. Sucks to have AT&T bloat again, but it will carry me until the U1 firmware is out.
Thanks, Tony!

So far as of today, looking at sammobile, the only models that haven't had their firmwares released for 13 are the U and U1, sans the US Cellular model. The U1 has 13 only if you were on beta. However, for those who have a U and flashed U1 firmware, there's no update available yet.

I think we're will finally get Android 13 very soon. Maybe a week or two
I installed it without any problem in the G998U1 XAA now it is G998U
I install this via ODIN, correct? Which version of ODIN for VZW carrier locked, please?
