i was looking around the app market seeing what is free and give it a try but one thing i've noticed is how many apps require your location. and it is not like the app/game needs to know my location to work. lots of games that i was looking through require it even though it is all single player on your phone.
so basically, as some article mentioned many moons ago, they are for sending your info to advertisement agencies.
so is there a way to block the show your network thing besides turning your phone to airplane mode everything, or should i just be quiet?
It's modern advertising that uses your location to give you more targeted ads. Chances are you're giving your location away every time you do a Google search anyways.

Hi everyone,
I have an iPhone 4S running ios7. I find that my watch faces and apps work fine as long as I make a habit of re-opening the pebble app and the companion apps often, but this defeats the purpose of the pebble. I'm trying to limit the number of times I have to take my phone out of my pocket. I need a good way to stop ios' oom manager from killing these apps. I tried background manager but it didn't seem to be helping any. Has anyone had better experience with this app or some alternative?

I've encountered the same thing on my 4s. I've been testing background manager as well and it seems to improve the behavior of a few faces and apps, but it's not consistent across the board. I'd be curious if anyone comes up with a complete solution or if it's something they'll properly address in future updates.
Jailbroken? There is a Cydia tweak I use that settled this for me. It's called background manager.
Non JB iOS the best I was able to do was Settings -> General -> Backgroud app refresh -> turn stuff on.
If that helps anyone, hit the Thanks-o-meter thingy, I need to build some street cred to unlock the full forum. LOL.
Good luck!
EDIT: I just noticed in the OP's case that it's a multi-app issue, and tried BM. Currently iOS only allows 1 app at a time to interact with Pebble app. This may be your issue. If you leave more than one companion app running and for example load the watch face for one, then try and go back to the other; you'll find you have to reload that companion app. This irks me as well, but I now a days only use 1 companion app regularly any way. I am unsure of any work around for this on the horizon.
How is the bloatware on the S6 with T-Mobile? Is it usually less than other carriers?

The tmobile apps that came preinstalled on my s6 are:
My account
Name ID
TV
Visual voicemail
Mobile hotspot
Device Unlock
All can be disabled but I would say depending on who you are some of these actually have some functionality. I don't pay for TV or name ID so I have those along with the my account app disabled.
I think most of the bloatware is from Samsung (as in the carrier is somewhat irrelevant) but I can't talk for other people with other carrier versions of the phone.
The bloat on my S4 from ATT was pretty bad but that was a while ago.

this phone is always sending me notifications (on the lockscreen) advertising something. its so weird, this is my first samsung phone and my last phone ran stock android.
the worst part is, stock android commands like "navigate to 3100 Missipi Rd in Chicago Illinois" or "call Mom" lag because FLIP BOARD is a mandatory homescreen on your phone.
the last time i reset the phone. it started automatically downloading apps. like ANT antenna and Milk Video. Really? milk video? its so lowclass for them to do something like this on their "flagship" phone.
say what you want about Crap-ple but atleast they're not taking money from small tech companies to put apps on their phone that you cannot remove.
If you dont like flop board use the google experience launcher. Makes it like stock but keeps all of the good stuff. replaces the garbage flop board with google stuff.

So let's see here. You complain about the SOS mode because of your own... usage patterns (which you can disable) and then you are bringing bogus arguments to this thread.
Nothing automatically was "automatically downloading apps" it is called updating system applications built into the device. Android and thereby Samsung separate a lot of their applicaitons from system processes and code into separate applications so they can be updated as required and not have to wait for a system update. Wanna know something really funny? ANT+ is preinstalled on the iPhone as well, it is just separated so the user doesnt know the wiser.
Podcasts, Newstand, Weather, Apple Watch App, iTunes App, iBooks... the same argument could be made for all of these that they cannot be removed, at least on the S6 they can be disabled.
as i was considering the note 4 and contemplating between note 4 and lg [i think it was] g4, i had the problem with deciding becoz of one has fb on it, the other one no pen. [my carrier is t-mobile, although not in the us, i sit in the eu, but i don't think there are too many differences, hopefully]
which leads me to my problem.
1/ if i turn on the phone without sim or anything inside, and disable the apps i don't need/want, will they go dead, or will in the case of fb happen this:
[there would have been some links from android central where is described that fb-app updates itself outside of play even when disabled. that this is some kind of security issue, and that they told google about it, also fb about that, with the answer live with it or change your phone. they also told samsung about it. and that there is a samsung usa ticket for that: 2135760316 [that post is from 05-13-2015, 11:32 AM, by kelly kearns]. as it is impossible to post links, that's the only way i can put it here somehow]
so basically, there is no way to get rid of this useless thing, if i understand it correctly? and i have to accept, that even if disabled, it will still enable itself and update? therefore, next point ... if there is no account of that junk, does it still try to get every thing on the phone because of the permissions it has been granted, even if it is disabled?
therefore², if i disable an app, does that mean, its basically dead i.e. doesn't do anything compared to being enabled? or what does disable exactly mean?
[um, yes, i totally dislike fb, therefore ... you get my point]
1.1/ in one of the copied links above [or was it somewhere else] someone said something about an app that freezes other apps or something like that. might that have the desired effect for me?
1.2/ after putting in the sim and signing in to google ... what will that disabled fb do? or is it basically as said in the screenshot of that conversation ... you not liek, take other phone? [who are they? god? .... oh ... wait, actually ... given the ties to nsa ... nevermind]
2/ as this is my second android phone, so, if i add the google account on that phone, it copies every thing that's stored on the old one to the new one. but ... wot exactly happens with the apps it copies? are they still the same version as on the old phone or during the copying are they being updated? i'm asking, coz there are some i don't want to be updated, tune in for example [as i don't like the added social something and wotever came after my version]. or stays the app the same and i have to update it myself?
2.1/ regarding copying ... wot happens with my sms and call logs? and, can i decide what i want to be copied or is there no option of choice?
2.2/ same goes with the games i copy ... like the doctor who one from tiny rebel games. do i lose the current point where i am or not?
3/ is there any way to port or copy the s note from note 2 also over to note 4, or any chance to find the apk of it somewhere? it's just, that the note 4 version doesn't do idea note and sketch any longer, as those are the two templates i used most, as it is.
[eta] 3.1/ what about the dictionary and the handwriting? does it have to learn both from scratch or is it also going to be copied?
tnx a lot in forward for answering my questions,
meh

Regardless of whichever phone you get. Just go ahead of root it and use Titanium Backup or another root App. I personally use Rom Toolbox because it's App Manager lists the apps by APK name. Use an app like what I suggested to remove all the garbage you don't want.
I personally chose the Note 4 over the G4.
yes, i could root, but then i'll lose any ounce of warranty. i don't know when t-mob changed that, but that's how it is now ... and given my track record there might be a day when i might need it.
Hello!
I'm afraid my phone might have malware. Hopefully it's a false alarm but I would appreciate any insight into the behavior:
Yesterday I saw a notification with the EMUI icon (stylized red "UI") but when bringing up the notification panel all I saw was a green "down" arrow and no text. I've had apps with bugs creating broken notifications before so I tapped it to check. It sent me to a webpage flagged as a source of malware "d1.3gmimo.com/handpet/wallpaper/...<can't remember rest>". I closed the page and since Chrome showed the warning before loading the page I think it's safe to assume I didn't download anything.
I don't know the origin of the notification though so I'm afraid there might be some malware already present. It had the EMUI icon but that can be faked or may be the default when no icon is configured (not sure how it works).. The notification appeared over mobile data so no router redirect infection. Searches gave me only one hit I could make sense of - a forum thread with the poster describing a similar event. They got not explanation but see here for their screenshots: Google Translate on thread-5858387-1-1.html on club.huawei.com (can't post links yet it seems)
I am very careful with the apps I install, avoid all the copycat crap, and I only allow Google Play as a source. The phone was only ever used by me except briefly by a family member which I trust not to download anything sketchy. Still, I uninstalled the most recent 2 apps: Hashi and Nonogram Katana (has ads) , though these had been installed a week before. The list of installed apps shows nothing new/strange. I also installed AVL, Bitdefender, and Avast but they found nothing. (I know it's debated whether av/anti-malware apps are helpful but thought to cover everything.)
Any thoughts?
Thank you in advance!
Phone details:
Huawei P7-L10
Android 4.4.2
EMUI 2.3 (V100R001C02B129)
Branded by Vodafone and with their uninstallable apps - using it on different network though.
I know I should update but the update app doesn't find anything (I understand this may be due to modifications made by telecom companies) and I got lazy since I've had no compatibility issues. I guess I should think more about security.
After doing more digging and learning to use adb to look at the logcat, I think the notification might have been created by VLife, which is Huawei's wallpaper distribution service.
On my phone I have VLife 2.23.3 installed (seems to be stock) as a system app. The title is in Chinese but the icon is the EMUI logo. (I figured out which app it is by the icon and version number, after I found the app hosted on aptoide.com while googling for "vlife".)
I presume what happened is that VLife tried to download a new wallpaper (no idea why all of a sudden) and it went to 3gmimo.com, which might serve as a mirror for apps. The site is flagged as having malware. This might be a false alarm or the site might have been hijacked since my version of VLife came out.
So the app might be ok. Though I'm still worried why the sudden update. Maybe there's a central message that was sent to the app to update? (The logcat below mentions a receiver.) The only suspicious thing about the app otherwise is that it has the permission to record sound along with changing sound settings. The latter isn't so surprising since it provides multimedia wallpapers. Maybe recording comes with the rest of the sound permissions. I've disabled the app and disabled its notifications for now. It can't be uninstalled since it's a system app.
These lines come up quite often in my logcat:
I/am_proc_start( 604): [0,18761,10089,com.vlife.huawei.wallpaper:main,broadcast,com.vlife.huawei.wallpaper/com.vlife.receiver.PetMainReceiver] - the link I got referred to a "handpet"
I/am_proc_start( 604): [0,18907,10089,com.vlife.huawei.wallpaper:main,broadcast,com.vlife.huawei.wallpaper/com.vlife.receiver.InstallEventReceiver]
Does anybody know more about this app or service?
Thanks!
