secure unlock - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

Good day.
This maybe a stupid question.
I recently migrated from an Galaxy S8 to an Xz1 Compact.
Galaxy S8 had an function that i could keep my fingerprint stored in the phone even without secure unlock activated. So it was possibel to use the fingerprint sensor in other apps.
Is that possible in XZ1C?
Thank you.

Unfortunately not, every time you disable the fingerprint login the print is erased.

Bypass Android Lockscreen on the Z3 Compact?

Hi everyone
I've got a question, I recently buyed a Z3 Compact from a site similar to ebay but from switzerland. The guy who sold the phone said in the description that the phone was defect and that he didn't remember the password to unlock the phone (the phone was pretty cheap which made me curious, but i bought it anyway)
I'm now a bit worried that I may bought a stolen phone. And so to check, if it's really his phone, I thought maybe there's a way to bypass the lockscreen without wiping the data.
Because as soon as I wipe the phone I might be not able to get in, as I don't have his (or the person who belongs the phone's) gmail adress.
The phone itself has no USB debugging enabled and isn't rooted.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Regards
Marco
So you basically cannot do anything because to do any modifying you need to unlock the bootloader but since unlocking the bootloader wipes data, yeah you are basically stuck.
Is there a chance to 'restore' a part of the data or is the wipe permanent?
Edit: Isn't there a Google Security feature that if you wipe the device you have to first log in with the Google Account which was previously installed on the device, otherwise it won't let you login with your account (it's called Device Protection)?
Just do a bit of "googling" on how to bypass FRP (factory reset protection), I've done that just yesterday on Galaxy J5 and everything worked out. You can easily find a youtube channel of a certain person who made it possible

Yes I saw that too, but it seems to me it only works for Samsung and Sony phones

I have used an universal FRP bypass app and it worked, though there is a Samsung specific one. I think it can be done with Z3C as well, you have nothing to lose anyway since you can't bypass the lockscreen using ADB as ADB debugging is not enabled, and this would be the only choice, as far as I know though.

So I managed to wipe the phone and successfully sign in with my account. But now I'm struggeling with recovering some data from the phone. Are there any apps out there which could do something like this?

[Q] Note 8 Face Recognition vs Google's trusted face,Which on is better?

Has anyone tried and compared the note 8 facial recognition and google's trusted face, and can tell which one is better.
Though there is advantage for google's trusted face to improve face recognition, by adding face data in different lighting, but samsung's face recognition can be used in AppLocks.
If there is a post about it do refer to that post.
Face Recognition isn't the most secure device unlocking feature for a mobile device. As it can easily be curcumvented using a picture. I would recommend using either Iris, Fingerprint or password unlocking. As those methods of device unlocking are the most secure. Even the pattern unlocking method can be easily and quickly solved.

Note 8 Android Pie Quirks

Ok.. so i got my pie update with One UI last night. COOL.. i love it.. laggy at first, after full reset, it works just fine, smooth and fast.. snappy. battery life is great.. However, after using it for awhile and after restoring backup, i have some quirks..
1. Samsung now do not allow SD Card to be used together with both sim cards.. previously i have been using dual sim and SD card via an adapter.. now it just says "SIM Card Tray Slot Problem. There seems to be something in your SIM Card tray slot that doesnt belong there. Check it and try again".
I saw somewhere in this forum, that there is a method that can fix this issue, but i require root access.. DAMN..
2. Call recorders is disabled for third party apps.
Is there a native call recorder in the note 8 android 9? like when i use note 2, i just need to tweak the CSC file and the native call recorder will come out. Is it still present?
If the native call recorder is still present, i am very willing to root my phone.
Samsung pay is just something that i would love to have, but not a must. Call recorder is important.
I travel often, and frequently receive instructions from bosses or customers on what they want, and it is often lengthy.. without a pen and paper, and phone stuck to my ear, i rely on call recorders to record what they want, and then when i am back in office or hotel room, or somewhere quiet, i can replay what they want and work on a proposal to them or quotation. This is important to me and the reason i forked out to buy pro version of the call recorder app i was using previously.
my question is, if some kind hearted person can assist me, is as follows:
1. Is android call recorder still present? will tweaking the CSC file or installing an xposed module bring it back? (thats how i did it on my very old note 2)
2. If i root my note 8, secure folders wont work. Samsung Pay wont work. will masking root allow samsung pay? if not, will i still be able to use samsung pay on my Samsung Gear Sport instead.. currently i use samsung pay mainly on my samsung gear sport anyway.
Yup call recording is still there. I've installed HadesRom and seems to enable it.
-Yes, if you root your phone you'll lose Samsung Pay and Secure Folder forever since it triggers Knox. I have no idea if you can still be able to use Pay with your smartwatch.

Holy moly, I should have checked before updating. Where is the workaround to use both sims and the micro sd card?
Do I need to root now? Didn't have the need to do it until now
Dang!

Yeah, you would probably have to root your device and mod a file in order to get that feature back.

You can use Solid Explorer to make encrypted folders (with fingerprint unlock if you want). You can even make the secure folders on your sdcard.
Is root now available for Pie? Last time I checked, if you have Snapdragon and upgraded to Pie you lost root since it's bootloader 5 and the highest bootloader that has root is 3. If you have an Exynos, then a Knox is tripped and you can never have Samsung pay again.

You don't need to root your phone. Just change your region to THL or INS or XXV, it'll give you native call recording with SPay. I've changed my CSC from XSG/CAC/XSG to THL/CAC/XSG and call recorder is working great.

I guess you could install another regions OS onto your device. Just make sure that the model numbers match.

Still not for Snapdragon, as far as I know, but it is for Exynos. I've seen some custom ROMs claiming to have Samsung Pay working, but I can't verify that, as I don't use or even care about Samsung Pay, despite it being used and supported in my country.
Hello Guys, I have Unlocked Tmobile Note 8 the N950U version. Anyone knows when the Pie Update comes up? Im hating Tmobile right now. My girl have an S8+ from Claro a International model and today update to Pie

Can you explain more?
Currently I'm in Saudi Arabia and my device updated to Pie, which region have Pie version with 2 sim and SD card working together.
Thanks

There isn't any pie firmware that 2 sims and sd card option will work. Apparently Samsung put in a check for that and disabled it.
You'll have to go back to oreo for now.
Or root your phone (Warning: this will remove Samsung pay, secure folder for good) and change out a service.jar file.

Android pie for note 8 comes with its own call recorder. To activate it go to call settings. That option is right in front if you.
The SD card problem is still there I think. I have the same problem.

Here we go again. It's not there. It's controlled by csc. Mine is in xme, which doesn't allow call recording.
Anyhow I flashed custom Rom, got native call recording to work (still don't appear in the settings though) and samsung pay to work via my gear samsung gear sport.
And my Dual SIM with sdcard works now too.

Call recording is present, but you will loose hybrid sim as Samsung has blocked it in PIE Update.
After updating to PIE, i'm note able to use hybrid sim slot on my Galaxy Note 8. When i insert hybrid in Galaxy note 8 Pie, POPUP appears says sim card tray slot problem, but phone has read both behind and memory card. Pop does not get disable and stuck on the screen. Forcefully i need to remove the slot and reverse back to 1 sim and MC

Call recording is locked by csc. Been this way since samsung note2 or even before. You may have it due to your csc does not lock it.
As for dual sim and sdcard, yeah that's true. You'll need to root your phone or install a custom rom.

secure boot s10 unlocked

Hi
I have the unlocked US version of the S10. Either I am blind or it is really missing but where do I enable secure book (the pin needed to boot).
I can not seem to find that option. Can't imagine it got removed?
Thanks!
Interesting - it is in fact gone now (even on my Canadian S10). I should grab my Note 9 and see if it's there still (not sure if it's a Pie thing or just an S10 thing)
Well, my S10 is sitting in a warehouse still, but I notice I still have secure startup on my S9 with Pie. Maybe they moved it, have you searched for secure startup in settings?
Yup! (it's also not in secure lock settings)
yes I searched for secure, secure boot, secure startup, boot,... nothing!
I had the S9 with Pie beta(s) and final and it was there all the time, including final Pie release.
