Question for those who have replaced the glass - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the opportunity to buy a Nexus 6 that's working perfectly but has a broken screen for only 35 bucks. I'm a bit concerned looking at the Craigslist pic of the damage though. It looks to me like a bit of what's under the glass might be broken too but I'm not really sure. I'd certainly like a solid foundation to stick a new digitizer to. I'm hoping someone who has seen that part of the phone before can weigh in on this for me. If it's just more trouble waiting to happen I'll want to pass on it. Take a look at the pic and tell me what you think please...

Safest bet is to do digitizer and glass as one assembly rather than glass only replacement

Thanks but the phone was already sold when I woke up today. I agree that replacing the whole assembly is safest, but if I could afford that I would just find a whole phone that doesn't need the work.

LCD and Digitizer is like every other modern phone on the market, they are bonded together so you cannot just replace the digitizer. Sure you can buy the digitizer online but due to the bonding process they use during manufacturing the LCD will break trying to take them apart. Unless of course you have specialized equipment just for breaking the bond, then you would need bout half a million dollars in equipment to liquid optically bond them back together. Cheaper to just buy a whole new display

HTC Touch in "carbon fibre"

So I wanted a bit of a different look to my HTC casing. However I don't like silicone or other add-on cases, so I went a different route. On a lark I went to Canadian Tire since I remembered they used to have a fake carbon fibre vinyl available (don't ask how I know). However I found an even better one which looks a bit more realistic (and is slightly transparent so when you place it over coloured surfaces the underlying colour comes through).
Wrapped it around my HTC front and back (took the back cover off to do it). Once you lay it on you can use an exacto-knife to trim out the parts you don't want covered. Then used a heat gun to help wrap the edges without wrinkles (that just happened to be on sale too!).
The finished product:

Maybe not everyone's taste but unless you get REALLY close its fairly hard to tell its not an OEM finish (IMO).
I was in a auto parts store the other day and you know what I saw the exact product you used for this pretty cool in my opinion though I prefer the soft touch feal maybe if my phone gets banged up enough I might do this but looks good
I wish some company would release a leather battery cover, or a way to make it all leather. I think it would look very nice

Screen replacement OLED/LCD

So bascially I drop my phone (2 feet off the ground) and it crack the screen.
Everything still works fine, only the glass is broken.
My question is I found LCD replacement on ebay for around $120~.
So if I replace that, is not an OLED anymore?!

I think I found the exact one and I'm pretty sure that is a SAMOLED just named incorrectly I don't think anyone would make a LCD screen for a captivate... but if so a SAMOLED would be well worth it over LCD
if its the screen for a cappy it is the right part and will be the same.
I see thanks,
Just debaiting if I should bother fixing it.
Dont really want to spend the $130~ for a DIY I'm not really comfortable with.
Anyone know some cheaper place for parts.
Contract ending in few months.
Going to switch to another provider which I can get a new phone.
I don't know anywhere you might be able to get one cheap mostly because it's the screen I imagine you can't really buy one that wasn't from a different captivate and since you're about to switch and get a new phone I'd live with it haha it's not worth that much money if you don't plan to use it much anymore
Is the screen and front glass one piece? It looks like the screen under the glass is fine.
I agree that there probably isn't a LCD for the captivate.

[Q] Broken Nexus One Screen, help with replacement please?

I believe I dropped my Nexus One while I was drunk and damaged the AMOLED screen. This is what the damage looks like:
img.photobucket . com/albums/v332/twylo/Photoon2011-06-19at1151.jpg
(apologies, don't have enough posts)
I don't believe the digitizer is damaged because I can still feel the haptic feedback, such as when I slide the lock across and it gives a little buzz when it unlocks, home button etc. Just the screen is damaged. I'm assuming that it isn't a loose connection and that I actually broke the screen. I'm just not sure which replacement LCD to get. I know there is the original AMOLED, and then the Sony version, but am I restricted to one since I (think) have the AMOLED? I would like to stay with the original AMOLED if I could. Any help would be appreciated, need to get my phone back up and running as soon as I can!
Thanks
from what i know, if you get it replaced by htc, it will probably be a slcd screen as samsung is churning out s/amoled as fast as they can and not everybody is on the priority list. slcd is supposedly better on battery life but still can't match the blacks/contrast of the amoled screen.
I'm in the same boat here. Figured I'd just post in the same thread since it looks like we have the exact same problem.
This is my phone now:

The touch screen works and the glass is not cracked the glass is cracked, I can tell if the phone is off and look carefully.
I can still see parts of the image. I'm looking on ebay for parts but I'm not really sure what's what.
Does anyone know how long it will take and how much it will cost to get it repaired by HTC? Will they only do it if it's under warranty?
My phone is the ATT model too which complicates things, some auctions on ebay mention a difference between models.

Looking for spare part. Digitizer connector. (?)

Hey guys!
My phone started having troubles with the touch (how unexpected right?)
Well, the thing is, when I was gonna remove the digitizer connector cable, I tried pulling the black plastic thing backwards instead of flipping it up.
Reason I did this was because I've repaired a few laptops and they had the type of connector were you pull the plastic thing back to release the connector.
The black plastic thing broke off in half so now I can't securely connect the digitizer anymore.
So, question is, can I get a replacement? I took one from another old HTC phone but it's not the correct one. (Lenght wise is correct, but not with the holes for the pins)
At 1:54 it shows the thing I'm talking about.
Youtube link (imbedded link didnt work)
Also attaches a printscreen of it for less hassle.

The black plastic piece that shows is the one I'm talking about!
Better view:
I don't even know the name of these parts so I don't even know what to search for. Please help me out guys.
Probably best way is to buy a new complete connector and remove the black plastic piece and fasten it onto the phones one.
Kind regards,
Tony
EDIT: Note sure if it's the same, but found this on ebay:

Is this the same type?
Nobody?

Needless to say I said no, now I'm awaiting it coming back in a completely non working state and I'll end up with a fight on my hands..
I get it that it may have some water damage but honestly, £854?? What are these guys smoking? At best it'll be a problem with the sensors alone if they can't be removed then fair enough.
Guess i'm going to save up for the nothing 2.
Never again.
PS: just called SBE and spoke with some utter puppet, I advised that there was only a couple of problems with it and that I want the device back with the functionality that I sent it to them with...
Only to be told that "we can't make any guarantees"
