Hi there, I just purchased new a Nexus 6, love the phone, seems that all new phones all looking like a Samsung or iPhone which is not good.
The phone just purchased is new out of the box from eBay and shipped over from Hong Kong.
When the phone is idle I get a good day out of it buy when in use I can see the banner count dropping very quickly, if I had to use it for an hour on the phone I would guess that the banner would drain to 0. If I play around with the phone I would assume that it wont last more than 2 hours at the most.
Is this a common issue with the phone or should I assume that the phone has been sitting in a warehouse for the past 4 years with no use causing an issue with the banner to deplete so quickly.
I was also wondering if it is was worth replacing the battery or is it an issue with the phone?
A few days ago I noticed the phone shutting down when at 15%, since then I re-booted the phone in safe mode, worked with it for a few hours, then back to normal mode and it seems that it now drains to 0.
Any help appreciated.

4 years ago, my Nexus 6, out of the box, had battery drain, mainly caused by the amoled screen.
I installed the No wallpaper app to make the background black and use only apps with a black or dark theme.
Since then I can use the N6 in any case from 9 to 5.
Now using Beltz-rom with built-in black theme and ElementalX kernel. Rooted with Magisk 1600.
Although my battery is 4 years old; still working. I've never used quick charging only slow wireless charging.
Replacing the battery is a hassle because there's a lot of glue. But when my battery dies after more than 4 years use, I'll try to replace it. But probably I will buy the new One Plus 6.

Assuming you're on stock 7.1.1, try to boot into bootloader (fastboot mode) by powering off and then rebooting by holding down power button and vol. down button, cycle into "bootloader logs" using volume down button, and then holding power button for 15 sec until it reboots on its own back to "GOOGLE" logo and then let go. This resets the battery calibration and should fix issue--if not, replacing battery can be done--watch YouTube video before doing it.

i have searched on the forum and found no one with the same symptoms that i am experiencing. i have had my kaiser for about a year now and have been happy for the most part with battery consumption. but about 2 weeks ago my battery started draining super fast when i'm talking on the phone. even with a bluetooth and the screen off. i don't remember changing any settings at all. for a 10 min phone conversation i can use 25% or more of my battery. i purchased a cheap extended battery a few months ago and i get the same results regardless of which battery i use. i purchased the phone with WM6.5 pro from PDACorner/ abusalza (ROM version: PC.Ultimate.V17 WWE)already installed. i really like the ROM and all the apps installed and i'm not reall excited about flashing a new ROM. any help will be greatly appreciated.
Could be that both batteries are bad.
My battery started to drain very quickly last June, so in Sept. I bought a new battery,( cheap one, on line ) worked great. I used both batteries back and forth to make sure that I always had a fully charged battery.
Last Dec. My phone started turning off for no reason, ( like the battery was dead ) so I stopped using the old battery and just used the " new one ". About a week later my phone went into a start up; reset loop. It would not boot without resetting. I figured the battery was old 3 months old, it couldn't be the battery. I tried everything else short of buying a new phone. Finally I went on line and bought another cheap battery. The phone has worked perfect ever since.
Moral of the story ? Don't discount the battery just because it still seems new. I got what I paid for from my $12 battery, a little over three months.
that all makes sense, but the battery only drains this fast when i'm on the phone. nothing else; wifi, movies, even gps drains as fast as using the phone...
Same issue here..
Strange thing is that when on the phone battery is draining very fast and most of the time the call is cut off. When I start the phone again I still have power and can work on my phone, when I try to make another phone call the phone cuts off in one second. I hear about to batteries, where is the other one and can I replace it?
Well if you have a custom rom on the phone the radio might need to be changed.
Very true, try running the stock radio for your device/carrier and see if you get the same results. For me personally I've noticed a difference in battery usage especially during calls depending on the radio. For me on AT&T in the US the original radio seems the best.
First things first, this is my first time posting on XDA Developers and yes I have searched the forums for a similar question/answer and only found one but my I had a small additional problem as well.
Problem 1) My battery indicator is always wrong, one time it says it's 50% and then I restart my phone and then it says 15%, then I play games until it's 12% and then restart again and then the phone now says 20%.
Problem 2) When my battery indicator is incorrect, when I turn off my phone, the xperia T will just restart and then I have to turn it off again.
What I've done;
- I used sony's repair software online (Sony PC Companion)
- Used ICS format option
- Exchanged Xperia T for another one at Carphone Warehouse 2-3 days ago (Original purchase was last week)
- Drained the battery from 100% to 0% and then charged it again.
NOTE: My Xperia T was bought from UK (Carphone Warehouse) and I haven't flashed it onto another ROM nor have I rooted the phone and the phone is unlocked too.
NOTE 2: I had exchange the phone once and still same problems occurred, dunno if I'm "Bad Luck Brian" this week or all certain xperia T's behave this way.

I have come across the issue of the phone restarting on power off. Quite strange but yet couldnt isolate as to why it does it.
Just gt my phone exchanged due to a suspected bad microphone, and the new one too restarted on a power off.
The previous one seemed quite good with battery life and the new one is yet on the 1st cycle of drain.
Yes, occasionaly my phone does a restart instead of a power off, but i find it quitw usefull because normally I am rebooting to get into recovery and I hate not having a reboot option...
Well done sony
EDIT
The other thing that bigs me is the random reboots...does anyone else get this on stock kernel. I am advanced v3 stock kernel.

Good to hear the restart is a common thing
I've had a random reboot once, while running sat nav sw (sygic).
Today I exchanged my phone to Galaxy Note 2, couldn't be happier.
Also, I've contacted Sony before the exchange (and after this thread was posted) and they said that the issue is known by Sony and it's unknown if it's a software or hardware problem for now, wish you guys good luck and hopefully it's a software bug

In the past month on which I own the device I maybe had one or two random reboots. All stock only rooted. So my guess is its in the advance kernel. Since most people who have it have a unlocked bootloader

I haven't experienced any restarts but my battery level indicator is a bit hit and miss.
I can run my batt down to, say, 5% then turn the screen off and leave it for a while and it'll report something like 15% when I turn the screen back on several minutes later. It will also stay working for AGES when at 1% - my best effort was just under an hour of video with 1% being reported!
I'm sure it'll all get fixed in an update. The T is much more stable than my G-Note was just after release, it took months for Samsung to sort things out on it!
Not random reboots nor battery level issues. Currently in fw 195.
The first 2 weeks of my tx, it could stay at 100% for several hours even over night.
After that, It could stay at 1% for up to 3 hours. Lol
The indicator is not Accurate, but hey, I got pretty good battery life out of TX, around 30hrs per charge.
As for the battery indicator: the percentage is calculated based on the current the battery puts out. The problem with current batteries is, if you pull a lot of energy in a short amount of time (boot/reboot, play game, other hard phone use) the current temporarily drops and thus a wrong percentage is calculated. After a while, the current recovers and the correct value will be shown. Comparable to the fuel gauge showing less/more fuel when parked at a steep hill.
This explains how the meter can fluctuate. What I cant answer is if your phone acts inside the "tolerance margin" or if its way off. My Galaxy Note recently went from 30% to 5% in a couple minutes (I used the hell out of it...) and after I stopped using it, it went back to 15% overthe following 30 mimutes.
As for the other issue, I obviously cant help as I dont possess a X T.

So far battery life seems insane with the extended standby mode... Haven't run a full day yet but it's barely dropping at all for the last couple hours.
Sony T restart problems
Hey guys,
Just looking at sony website, i searched xperia t and in the tutorial it said that holding the power off button turns the phone off while holding the power off button and volume up button at the same time makes it restart. All you guys saying you've got problems with the device re-booting. ITS NOT THE DEVICE ITS YOU PRESSING THE VOLUME UP BUTTON:silly: . A little research never hurts every once in a while!!!!!!!!!!
Noticed the battery percentage peculiarities too... Can't we hide the battery percentage altogether? It makes me anxious.
Had only 1 reboot on the other hand, while going into airplane mode. Phone is pretty stable (build 223).

That's 3 VERY old threads you have dug up, can I ask the reason why you are doing so?
Okay, so.. I have a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit II 4G.
I have it rooted with the root stock from this thread.
With that said, I've had this phone rooted for several months now. Since January or so. Over the course of that time, the phone has run without fault for months. Recently, I've had issues with my battery draining (as well as charging) far more quickly than it used to. I assumed this was an issue with the battery, because there was a slight bulge in it, so I bought a replacement battery that came yesterday. I charged it full (until the phone said it was 100%), from about 5% charge. It took the normal time (as the phone did when it was new) to charge, of just over 2 hours. It died almost completely about 2 1/2 hours later. Currently, I have my phone charging and it's at right around 90%, after just over an hour of charge from 20%. It used to take far longer to both charge, as well as die. What the Hell is going on?
Just a few notes:
This is not the result of heavy usage (for power drain). I say this because even as the phone was idle while I slept, it died on its own accord sometime throughout the night.
My bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS are almost always off, unless I'm using one of them for some purpose, and I haven't used any of those things since the new battery was installed.
There are no applications running in the background, aside from Facebook. I know this because I'm using Advanced Task Killer to kill everything, and it keeps showing Facebook as if it's opening itself for some reason. This is another issue I'm concerned with, so if anyone knows why or how to remedy this, I'd be appreciative of knowing. Otherwise I'm likely to just delete this unnecessary application.
This is not an issue where the phone is reading an incorrect charge over an extended period. It literally is dying and charging faster than normally.
When the phone is rebooted, whether it be through "Restart" (app from Google Play), via the phone Power key, or removal of the battery, the phone drops around 20% battery life when the restart is complete. The absolute reverse happens (it gains 20%) when restarting with the phone plugged into an AC charger.
Is it possible that this has something to do with the root being outdated, or maybe something updated and I'm unaware? I sincerely have no idea what's going on, as this is the first phone I've ever rooted before. I'm sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give as much information as possible.
It sounds like the battery you bought may be defective. Send it back and get a different one.
Yea sounds like you bought a defective battery. Where did you buy it from? Talk to them and see if they'll send a replacement or get another one from elsewhere

One week ago I bought new galaxy tab s 8.4 lte version.
Box opened, turned on tablet and...strange thing...battery was down to 4%...generally a new device has more residual power...
Anyway, i charged it all night for ten hrs.
Turned on again and 100% charge.
Everything runned ok for almost two days...then my tablet started to reboot randomly under 50% charge without no reason. No overheat, no strange app, no cpu stress. Just browsing internet, using facebook, sliding app drawer.
When it rebooted again charge was at 12%. Rebooted again...charge at 62...then 32%...and so on...
Maybe a battery calibration issue. So I decided to restore to default settings. Did it for 3 times...same behaviour...under 50-40% tablet started to reboot randomly.
Rapidly returned back to the store and changed with another one.
No problems at the moment, battery drain is regular with no "jumps".
Maybe it was just a defective battery but it was a very unpleasant experience.
Hope this is just an isolated event.
Well It doesn't sound normal for this Tablet .hope you get a better taste with your newly exchanged Tab.
Not sure which store sold you the tablet, but a "new" device would not be down to 4% on the battery on initial start-up.
Makes you wonder if the tablet was previously returned as defective and the store sold it to you anyways. Hopefully that wasn't the case.
Here's hoping your replacement tablet will work as advertised!

All the samsung original seals on the box were intact so I think that it was simply a defective battery.
The new tablet was at 45% charge when unboxed.
Fortunately no strange reboot for now...[emoji6]
there are a case here when some user having nearly the same problem. and he's kind of open the back cover himself to discover that the battery connector are not seal properly. yours might be in the same case.

That has battery connection problem. Maybe u got the 'QC Failed' batch like mine... i sent to Samsung but it got worst. Could not even turn it on. So i DIY it since i am rooted and the warranty does not cover rooted device. And my battery is no longer like what u r going through. If u are not rooted, go for an exchange.
Read this thread i linked, is how we fix the battery problem..

this should not be in the general sections, but in the Q/A help section...

stock out of the box nexus... happens usually while playing high end games. Happened twice during calls :/ 3rd week into the phone . Usually the battery saver turns on moments before phone shuts down . some times just goes poof.

Happened to me too today.got n6 on 11th Dec.initially reboots started then after 2 weeks of observations I turned off ambient display and now random shut downs..
Phone turned off on 14 % battery just when I picked up an incoming call..then again turned off when there was a call..really fed up of this issue..
Don't know if its a hardware or software issue..
backup your phone, reflash stock img completely, and test without restoring apps.

I've never had a random reboot but I have had the random shutdown issue. This was running stock 5.0.1 with stock kernel. Also had the same occurrence on CleanRom with stock kernel (this is basically a stock rom/kernel with a few tweaks. Another user recommended flashing LeanKernel which I did and haven't had a problem since. This random shutdown was happening roughly once per day. I have been running strong for almost a week now I'd say. I always am the guy to run custom roms and kernels myself anyways but I actually don't mind the stock rom so flashing the kernel was no big deal to me. There are a few threads on this subject if you search the forums. I too am hoping this isn't hardware related since it's always a pita dealing with RMA.
Is there anything new onto that? Any possible solutions? Same issue for me, generally happens during calls ... :/
hmm strange, i never had any shutdowns, could be either your rom or kernel your on. make sure the kernel your using with ur rom is compatible

I was just looking for this.
Mine started doing the same.
I have the battery saver set to 5%, but it never turns on!
The phone shuts off between 10% and 5%.
The battery saver turns on for only for a few seconds(if at all) and the phone shows the powering off animation.
Connecting the charger and turning the phone on, after booting shows 8% already.
Its not normal, because i remember having my phone at 1% without any problems for tests when i got it in November...
For the last few weeks i never went lower than 25% so i don't know when this started, but since i found this out(5 days ago), i tried it every day and it happens like clockwork. Flashed the factory image back has no effect( i was on stock anyways).
Hoping not to have a replacement to save the cost of my dbrand and screen protector...
I give it one more week and if it doesn't change i call Moto. I have MotoCare so replacement should be easy.

Hi guys,
My 2 month old nexus 6 is powering down unexpectedly. Random shut downs (not reboots). Thought it was snap chat was the culprit (read a few articles how some 3rd party camera apps can cause lollipop to power down) but the phone shuts down even after uninstalling all suspicious apps.
Any advice or suggestions will be highly appreciated
Devs please help
I'm starting to really wonder if these "turbo chargers" are causing major degradation to the batteries. The phone will shut down when the battery *voltage* drops below a specific threshold, regardless of what the percent display is actually at.
Another thing to consider is that adding a significant load to a battery will cause it to read a lower voltage, even if that load does NOT immediately deplete the battery, those who notice this happening when running a very demanding game could be experiencing this. I would suspect though, that this will only be an issue if the battery level is already fairly low.
Any update on this?
5% is still my dead-spot and nothing i tried helps...
I just ordered my nexus but my s5 (current phone) randomly reboots. We figured it was due to volte. Turned that off on the s5 and no issues so far. Was really tired of it and the reason I'm going to nexus. That and the bigger screen

Same issue here...
It must be caused by a bad batch of battery defects, Factory reset or re-flash factory image won't fix it... To get a replacement from Google seems to be the right way...

I use to have this issue. However, it has not happened since I started using Franco kernel. Multiple people have had the problem resolved by changing kernels. That leads me to believe that it is software related rather than hardware. Other benefits of flashing Franco for me is I can now use the built in led for notifications and I am using double tap to wake.

My battery issue happened after I kept using Franco for a while...then I switched back to elementalX or stock kernel, nothing resolved...
if the back cover doesn't peel off or the battery doesn't start to expand, it might be a good sign that it is just a software issue.
Otherwise, battery defect could be happening already, as in my case...
Changing kernels fixed my issue which was the phone shutting down on its own randomly. I guess some of you are experiencing a different problem.

Just a little update.
I did an advanced replacement with motorola.
Did it over chat on sunday, received the new phone on wednesday from texas.
Deposit was 500+tax.
The phone was brand new unopened box. Cloud White 64GB
The package had a box and a prepaid label to send the bad phone back.
The box was too small to fit a nexus 6, so i had to modify it a bit.
It was probably for the moto X or smaller.
Sent the phone back on Friday, they got it on Monday, and my money was back.
Everything looks great, the new phone can go down to 1% no problem.
The new turbo charger does not have the electrical noise that the old one has.
That may caused the battery problem. Using it since last Wednesday, and no problems so far.
The advanced replacement was great and easy, if i have to i would do it again, although in 3 months its gonna be a refurb device not a now.
Mine was in mint condition, had dbrand on and no scratches. The person who will get it after me will be happy with that refurb device
And i am happy with my new phone.
If the HTC M9 will have a GPE edition i might switch
