Pretty sure I just bricked my wife's G5S Plus - Moto G5S Plus Questions & Answers

First let me start by saying, I KNOW...
This all started when her signal started to jump around. She was unable to access 4g or anything. I had Pixel Perfect (or something like that) on it. I was going back to stock so it just 'worked.' Stupidly I grabbed the G5's firmware, no G5S. Strangely I was able to flash everything (ugh!). This has result in a lot of pain for me. I am now unable to flash the proper firmware, no matter how hard I try.
I can reflash bootloader, boot, recovery. But i am unable to flash system, oem or GPT (which I think is required here).
Flashing GPT gives me:
HTML:
target max-sparse-size: 256MB
sending 'partition' (45 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.034s]
writing 'partition'...
(bootloader) Validating 'gpt.default.xml'
(bootloader) Security version downgrade
(bootloader) Image primary_gpt failed validation
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
(bootloader) Cancelling 'gpt.default.xml'
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.122s
Flashing oem gives me a failed validation, but a "image is too large" on the screen. Booting into recovery works but I'm unable to do anything as there is no file system. The SD Card also isn't working.
If anyone has some ideas, I'd appreciate it. I'm thinking I could possibly put a external SD card in but since I'm unable to write gpt, I think I'm screwed.
Please...anyone got an idea?

This will be new enough to supercede the one from the G5's firmware since that is 137 vs 116?

Go ahead and flash the stock recovery img then follow the instructions from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639102
Also, they may be posting the OTA specifically made for verizon soon:
http://support.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/moto-x.pdf
Very helpful link here as well on how to return to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2603358
If you made a back up through TWRP, you can try restoring your phone from there too.

The Verizon OTA is out. That is what got him in the situation he is in.
I tried flashing the recovery image from 4.4 and i got this:

OKAY [ 0.863s]

I think the only hope for me is a factory image of 4.4.2. Based on the past, when do you think it will get released?

So you hold the Volume Down + Power to get into fastboot menu and then you hit Volume Down to highlight Recovery and then you hit Volume Up to select Recovery. Then you get the Android on its back with the red triangle. Then you Hold the Volume Up + Volume Down for about 5 seconds and press the Power button once. This is what you did? What does it do?

Ok, got it. I think the problem is that you can't have a 4.4.2 bootloader with a 4.4 recovery. So what it is telling you is that your recovery is downgraded because it is the version below your bootloader. I think you need the 4.4.2 recovery with the 4.4.2 bootloader. And there is no way to downgrade the 4.4.2 bootloader.
I read through the threads and I don't see where you can have the newer bootloader with the older recovery. You can have the older system with the newer bootloader.
I will post that question by itself and see if anyone can tell me if I am right or wrong on that.

Ok, sorry I am getting confused. It is the 4.4.2 system that will work with the 4.4 bootloader.
So I think the bottom line from all I have read is that you need the 4.4.2 stock recovery.img file.
How did you get to this point again? You took the OTA but for some reason it only upgraded the bootloader?

I don't see any other option if the 4.4.2 bootloader won't work with the 4.4 recovery. I believe that is what those error messages are saying.
So what exactly did you do that resulted in this situation? Explaining that might be helpful to others who may be able to help you.

I was going to do a factory reset using fastboot, and I flashed the gpt.bin. after that I could not flash anything. Later I learned that wasnt the factory image but the OTA update, so I realized I messed up then.

Need help ASAP! (fastboot preflash validation failed)

EDIT 3: Okay, just flashed a new kernel and the WiFi is working now. Must have been the stock kernel for some reason.
So all problems solved now
EDIT 2: Succesfully flashed the ROM, but unable to connect to Wifi. When I press the on button, it switches on for a second and then switches off again. Any idea guys why?
I've been trying to flash the stock ROM, but can't because as soon as I begin with the first step i.e fastboot flash partition gpt.bin, the following error is displayed- fastboot preflash validation failed.
Now I've been reading up on the forums here and a some have said that this error occurs when someone tries to downgrade. But I'm on the latest build and I don't know why this is happening?
Just so everyone knows, I'm unlocked and rooted.
Please, I need help since the ROM I'm on, which by itself is stock, is pretty much not working.
EDIT: The full message on fastboot is as follows
PHP:

sending 'partition' (32 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.036s]

Didn't you read anything of the previous posts?
If you've unlocked your bootloader, and getting these errors, you can safely ignore them. Just carry on flashing the other files.
Carried on
I did carried on with the fastboot steps but I get this "UTAG "flashfail" is configured as fastboot" and I'm still stuck in Bootloader.
How do I change the Kernel?
Oh yeah, I updated to Lollipop about 20 days ago, worked fine until a few days back and suddenly I get these strange errors. What could be the cause though?

[Q] Issues with Recovery

I have a motorola X 2014 Pure Edition that a while ago i side loaded the Lollipop Soak test image, however since it wasn't the final, it appears that I was instructed to downgrade back to 4.4.4 and then I would be able to upgrade to 5.0-11. I downloaded the Factory image from Motorola and re-flashed the images onto my phone. However when I attempted to refresh the motoboot.img it failed with the error below. However all the other parts flashed alright without issues. I then booted my phone and it booted into Kit Kat. I then attempted to do the OTA upgrade for Lollipop but it fails and puts the phone into a endless reboot phase. When I try to go into Recovery Mode it doesn't work, i get to the broken android screen however I cannot get to the Recovery Menu at all.
I reached out to Motorola support and they said: "We can not help you with this issue. I recommend you post this on forums dedicated to this (aka XDA), it should be fairly easy to find someone to help you there. here is not issue with the Moto X 444 BL. it seems to me it is related to the "stock Android 4.4.4" you flashed on your phone. It looks like you have a mismatch somewhere between TZ, GPT and the version of the BL on this device; it might have been cause by what you flashed on the device before having to return to stock.. .. "
I'm at a loss right now other than trying to send my phone back to Motorola to see if they can fix it. Hoping someone might have an idea of what i can do to fix my issue??

hey bro seems like the image might be corrupted. Try finding another motoboot.img. Or Lock and Unlock your bootloader again. And best of all try to get in fastboot and go back kitkat and keep it that way. Because i don't think you want to be in a brick again. Consult a person here on XDA that knows more about it. Thats my advice.
Sending it back won't work, your warranty is gone. Clearly stated in the page where you unlocked the bootloader. Sorry bro.
And btw next time please post this in the Moto X section.
Thank you! Greetz ErixGamer

Help with unbricking

Hi,
My friend's Moto G 2nd Gen (XT1068) stopped working all of a sudden couple of days back. When she tried to boot it, it went to bootloader screen (AP Fastboot Flash Mode) and none of the options work in the menu there. The phone had locked bootloader with stock firmware, so no customizations there. I thought may be something got corrupt in the firmware so I tried flashing stock firmware today, followed the instructions from 2 different posts -

2) https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/official-stock-firmware-5-0-2-lxb22-46-t3019612
However, both of them gave me errors like below for all steps:

Hey bro i had a similar error when trying to relock my phone after trying some customs roms.
I think it's same problem, it's the firmware version.
Recently Moto G 2014 had an update and if you use old firmware you had these errors, i suggest not to continue.
Some days ago new firmware has been published here: http://www.filefactory.com/folder/c6cdedc45a775d27/
XT1068_TITAN_RETAILDSDS_6.0_MPB24.65-34-3_cid7_CFC.xml.zip
http://www.filefactory.com/file/3lc...RETAILDSDS_6.0_MPB24.65-34-3_cid7_CFC.xml.zip
If you look, firmware is 24.65-34-3 and it's that "-3" that makes the difference!
Try to reflash with this firmware.

System files : Preflash validation Error
Ravi bro, its giving the same error when i flash the system.img sparesechunk img...and on the fone it says that 'image is too large'
i think i have an old bootloader. thats why it wont let me flash CM through TWRP also. it says that CM firmware is for bootloader 4886 while mine is 4226
also i have seen people flash bootloader.img also...but there is no such file here.
I have only 2 options left-
1. Get rid of the preflash validation errors
2. Update my bootloader.
i would be lovely if you could provide me with an updated bootlader.img file.
Ravi bro i will be very grateful to you if you could help me through this problem

same problem i am also having. tell mehow to fix it if possible
Try flashing a modern motoboot.img for thea (I have 0x4821) using:
mfastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
Click to collapse
You can take one from an OTA package for your phone. It's strange. My XT1072 came with a recent bootloader preinstalled, but try.
Note, it must be for thea, not titan or you will cripple or hardbrick your device.
