New to rooting, please help me out! - Huawei P10 Questions & Answers

Help me with rooting my Huawei P10 VTR-L29
I'm new to rooting and I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how i do it step by step .
I'm not completely lost, however i really don't want to brick my phone as i don't have any more money for a new phone

Check here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/how-to/guide-magisk-v15-4-oreo-t3759998
Be careful with other root methods, I read several sad stories about bricks from users who tried to root.

Do you know any root that works for android 7.0 and EMUI 5.1? I don't know why, but i still haven't got the new update.

I would update first. Look for Firmware Finder for speeding up the updates.

FF is pretty safe since it only tricks the original updater. All steps are clearly described by the OP in this thread (Step 4): https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/how-to/huawei-p10-debrand-rebrand-update-guide-t3691013

Need to unlock your bootloader first and install TWRP before rooting your phone.

How to root the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active on the NG3 update

A new update is being released for the S5 Active, since i didn't see a thread on how to root the device... Here it is...
Towel root works on the NE4 build but will not work on the new NG3 update.
So what i did was downgraded with the firmware file found on Sammobile with the NE4 build.
Then used Towel root and installed SuperSU, it said it failed to install Supersu but after a reboot all was well.
Oh this was a AT&T S5 active.
SuperSU worked fine and root was verified!
I haven't posted much before. I would like to give back to the awesome community who has done so much for me!
Hit the thanks button if i helped!
Could really use your help

Trying to use your same method
I am trying to root my phone with Towel root and it won't recognize my phone either. My phone deleted all it's text messages, for some reason, last night and I need to root my phone so I can save some of the messages. Came across your post and figured you can help me. I downloaded the may version of the sm-g870A and odin. Odin won't open. I've never done this before and could use your help. If I can downgrade my firmware, or change it, in a way where Towel root would recognize my phone that would be exactly what I need. Also tried all the Modstrings, did no good. Whatever you could say to help, can hit me up personally and help me, idk if you could do that, but it'd be awesome if you could help me.

NE4 and NG3 are official kernel images...
Downgrade consists of flashing the NE4 kernel image via Odin...then rooting the device....and then flashing the NG3 kernel via Odin which will give you a fully rooted rom that is the latest version...
Knox will NOT trip if you follow the thread instructions...
We are forced to downgrade the kernel to gain root due to the exploit being patched in the latest update...
The root method works perfectly....g
Thank you for your help

Lol. That is not what I'm asking. what I'm asking for is what firmware do I need to step backwards to kit Kat. I know if I can get it on revision 2 bootloader lollipop, I can downgrade to revision one kit Kat. I did this in the past but I forgot how. Right now I downgraded to 5.0 and I'm trying kingroot and Kingo root. It's not working

Yes you would need to downgrade, but since you have a T-Mobile version it's most likely not possible due to anti rollback

yes, same thread, just do the steps about OEM Unlocking and Root. i would grab the most recent twrp image from here (3.1.1-1) and the latest SuperSU here (2.82 TWRP Installable Zip)
you will also need adb and fastboot tools on your pc, get that here, latest version is 1.4.3
or you can just flash twrp and then flash an already rooted system image for 20v from @MicroMod777 found here

South Korean P9 Plus Nougat Update

Hello!
The main reason I picked the Huawei P9 Plus was that I had read online that Nougat was coming to the P9 Plus. But now, people have had it since March and I still don't have it! lol
So I've got a couple of questions about trying to install it manually.
1) South Korean banking apps quit working if they detect that you have root access. Is there a manual install method that doesn't require root or a way to hide root access from them?
2) Can I install the European update (the only one I seem to be able to find online) on a South Korean phone? I've got the VIE-L09 and I'm currently running VIE-L09C627B140.
The latest for C627 is B140 in Firmware Finder.
You can debrand your phone to get an European firmware. You will find guides here on XDA.

I managed to install twrp after flashing the c432 rom following this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/how-to/guide-debranding-to-c432-updating-to-t3551523. with the hybrid rom of c900, you can install twrp with SRKTool. After that, you can flash anything you want.

rooted note 8, can I update?

I know I have posted multiple times asking the same question, sorry about that still learning how this works. I am aware that if I do a software update, I will lose root. However it has been quite some time and I would like to update if I can. My worry is, will I brick my phone?. This is a link to steps I followed to root my phone. I am still very new to this, sorry. And thank you for you help! Love XDA

Yo will not get OTA updates while rooted, but you can download any available firmware for your device/country/opearator, one consideration to take into account: if you want to downgrade for any reason, you must not install a firmware with a higher bootloader version

PSA: Do not downgrade from Pie (C432B197) using Oreo Rollback (C432B150)

I can only speak for BLA-L29C432B197 (Probably B179 too), but I assume this will cover any Pie firmware released in January.
In these releases Huawei disabled custom kernel, so phone won't boot with a custom kernel flashed.
This had me wanting to downgrade to B161 where it does work. So I try with NoCheck, which is fine to update with, Software install failed.
I try with FH (I happened to have a credit left) HiSuite method, Software install failed.
I tried with Dload package, same result.
So I figure I can use Rollback, as it worked fine on Beta to get back to Oreo with it...
It failed after 7% (or so, I didn't actually watch), device reboot to a black screen. Fastboot was working though.
So it most likely only flashed Oreo bootloader, and device was hardbricked. I managed to get it back using test point and IDT, this will void your warranty though.
So, do not downgrade using NoCheck recovery and rollback package, it's not worth the time to get device back.
Edit: Downgrade from Pie B197 to Oreo B157 is fine using NoCheck.

And probably will also require spending money on other tools. Backups are also important, so people with rooted devices should use Partitions Backup (by wanam) and backup nvme, oeminfo and modem partitions.
As for downgrading with DLOAD or HiSuite we have no idea if it will work or if it will brick. Original recovery/eRecovery might have a fail safe mechanism.

Yep. Same NoCheck.img.
Edit: well, unless that nocheck is for p20... That might be why.
I will compare them.
I can confirm that in connecting my ALP-29 to my Windows 10 PC with HiSuite, I get offered the choice to roll back to Oreo. But the small print warns that your device should not be rooted or unlocked. I'm happy with Pie, so I'm not tempted to check whether this works without bricking your device, but just letting folks know about the purported option. Presumably if you try, you should at minimum unroot first......You also will be factory wiped.
