Problems with Android Wear and P20 pro - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
is anyone using an Android Wear smartwatch with the P20 Pro? I use an Asus Zenwatch 2 and I have a lot of problems.
Quite simply explained: As soon as the display locks, Google is no longer accessible via the watch. When I dictate by voice, for example, "set the timer to one hour" I get the message "Google is currently unavailable".
As soon as I unlock the display, it works immediately.
In the battery settings, I ignored Wear OS. Google can not be ignored.
Does anyone have the same problem or can help?

Maybe you have to tell your phone not to kill the app when the screen is off?
Skickat från min Pixel 2 XL via Tapatalk

Yes, that can be a solution. But how?

Try going into settings/apps and notifications/apps and find the app you want to have running in the background. You can set all the permissions and enter the battery section there to disable auto management and have it running in the background. Make sure it auto starts too.

I found a solution: Install an old version of Android Wear from the Internet (a version before Wear OS). Then pair the clock and adjust. Then the update to Wear OS can be installed and it works without problems.
Can with me now, of course, an isolated case, which can be fixed by resetting the phone. But for now it works.

i'm using a watch 2 classic with the phone and working perfectly, so it could be down to your watch

Android Wear 2.0 update

Just manually flashed the Android Wear 2.0 on my LG watch urbane at first it was slow and laggy and but then a day or two later it straightened itself out and it was like butter.
And the purpose of this topic is?
Mine is still really laggy after about 4 days.
Mind is unusabley lethargic.
Same here. A great smartwatch has become effectively useless since 2.0. Can't even answer calls on it anymore for cryin' out loud!
My watch was incredibly laggy and had terrible battery drain too. Today I did nothing different besides turning WiFi off and the lag is gone and the battery is similar to 1.5. (Which sucks since I used WiFi quite a bit, but at least the watch is usable.) I'm going to reenable WiFi tomorrow to see if the lag returns.

I just turned wifi off and the difference is night and day. Thanks, because I thought I was going to have to find a way to get 1.x back.
The UI is fluid most of the time, notifications come without delay but functionality seems to be down. I think Google has messed up Android Wear. Needs another major update imo.

Weird that it's seemingly such a randomly different experience for each user. My UI is laggy as hell, and the notifications only seem to show when they want to! It does vibrate when receiving them but either shows nothing (leaving me to swipe up to see what it is) or auto-pops up and takes up my whole watch face! Yet if I receive a phonecall, I'm lucky if my watch acknowledges it at all! Maybe, in 2 out of 10 tries?!
... Which leads me into completely agreeing with the downturn in functionality. On the couple of occasions my watch had picked up that I'm receiving a call, it only gives me the option to hang up! (Making my paid for Wear Speaker app effectively useless.) No way to answer from the watch at all. Same goes for notifications. Email for example, I can delete, archive or reply (all on the watch only) but I can't just tap to open it on my phone like I used to be able to! YouTube video subscription notifications are just that... Notifications! As the only option is to add to the watch later list. No option to open on the phone. Nothing!
Basically, it's great that they've added functionality that enables you to use the watch without the phone... But not at the expense of cutting out the phone completely! It still needs the phone to function fully, and is STILL only a companion product to go with a phone! I seriously don't understand how they've managed to screw this up so badly even after all the delays??! ?
It is weird because enough people report your experience for it to be just in your head. My was slow for a few hours but then sped up and is nice and at least as fluid as 1.5.
I did reboot and that didn't help. Factory reset made a huge difference.
Any ideas how to downgrade? My watch is practically usless... I hate the new update they've removed every single thing that made this watch remotely usefull
Yeah this update sucks on the urbane, everything takes much longer and isn't smooth... Good timing for me since I'm getting back into shape I bought a Fitbit charge 2 and will sell the urbane if it's worth anything.. I would like the Movado Wear watch but I'll make sure it's also not underpowered before purchase..
Thanks Google!

How can I install an apk in the watch? Untill now installing it on the phone was enough, but with 2.0 release it seems that you can only install programs with the play store installed on the watch. I suppose with adb I will able to install apks but does anyone know an easier method?
Thanks

In the settings on the watch there is an option for something like 'apps on phone' where you can select which apps you want to be installed from the phone instead of automatically like in 1.5. It may be an option in the Play store on the watch. I don't have 2.0 yet, waiting for my Urbane 2nd Edition update, but I've read about it.

Exactly!!! You can find an option in the watch Play Store called apps on phone where you can download into the watch the apps you need.
Thank you very much!!

Yeah, that option is missing now. Currently swiping down, tapping the sun symbol and then the watch-sysbol in the middle below seems to be the only way.
But at least after I did a factory reset of the watch yesterday and paired it again with my LG V10 the watch runs much smoother than before. Truth be told I have not installed all applications yet I was running on the Urbane before (like Watchmaker for example) but I will install one after another and check if the lags I had before reappear.
Mine had AW 1.1 out of the box. Upgraded to 2.0 and it was unusably laggy. Even tilt-to-wake was very delayed. "OK Google" would take over 10 seconds for assistant to come up.
My watch too has become barely useable. Google assistant can sometimes take upwards of 20 seconds to load. And there is a huge delay on my notifications, I don't even receive notifications for calls. Android wear 2.0 has definitely ruined my watch, which is sad because I love using assistant on my phone to control my Philips hue lights.
Did anyone contact LG or Google about this problem? Android Wear 2 made my device useless after just 1,5 years. That's unacceptable!

check the settings to see that you don't have any apps blocked.
is your phone getting the notifications, but just that the watch is not?
for me, all of the notifications that I want to show on my watch, are showing. lone exception are Google Feed notifications like traffic (which I used to get and loved, but no longer do).
I checked all these, but the only thing that helped was a factory reset.

Actually, when I had this issue, factory resetting the watch did not help, and it takes hours to restore all the apps. Clearing data (NOT the cache) for the Android Wear app (now "Wear OS") fixed it for me, and while it seemed to want to go through setup again, it also seemed to sync with my watch and skip to the end of the setup. It even kept the list of apps for which I had disabled notifications, and now all the other notifications work!
I did notice a few small changes in the watch display after this, so I have a suspicion that the watch needed an OS update but was stuck for some reason. I do reboot it every week or two or three, whenever it seems to get slow, so I know it didn't just need a reboot to update.
I'm having an issue where after the factory reset... the watch says continue setup on phone. My phone is still getting details

Too much battery saver?

My one month old P20 Pro has a frustrating problem. Stock ROM CLT-29 8.1.0.128 (C432) kernel 4.4.103+ not rooted.
Many apps fail to notify me. Not all the time but often enough. It seems like they never get to run so they dont update themselves and never notify me.
And a similar bluetooth issue. Occasionally things just connect. But more frequent they don't and I have to go into the bluetooth settings and connect manually.
I think this is the same problem. A too heavy handed battery saving regime stop my apps and the bluetooth app from running often enough to give me notifications or connect buetooth devices.
I have been into the Battery settings under Apps and tried various combos under App Launch settings. But can't see any difference.
I had this problem on my old Honor 8 phone too. I don't know if it's Huawei or Android. But I would love to find a way to get my notifications and bluetooth back?
Which apps aren't getting notifications?
If it's emails, make sure auto sync is on.

Definitely not an Android issue I can tell you that.
A lot of people using the P20 pro and Mate 10 pro are complaining about notifications not coming through. I'm surprised Huawei haven't fixed this problem yet as it has been around for some times now. You would think this is the first thing they fix but nooo
Do you have battery saver enabled in battery settings? If affirmative, this is your problem since battery saver cuts background data etc.

Weird. Mine always has this issue when I set battery saver on and by the time I switch bat saver off all notifications come up that moment.

Set the apps in manual mode instead of auto for the battery usage and select that it runs in background
Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Apps > Settings > Special Access > Ignore Battery Optimisation
Then allow the apps as required.

Android stops sending Notifications to Pebble Watch after time.

I have a Pebble Classic smartwatch (I know, old, unsupported, and discontinued) and a Huawei Honor 6X. My Pebble watch is able to pair and receive notifications fine. After some time, it stops receiving notifications. Sometimes after 5 minutes or even an hour. It doesn't re-sync till I disconnect it via the Pebble app (or settings on the watch) and then reconnect it. After that, it begins the process over by staying in sync after some time then stops receiving notifications.
Also, a strange thing I notice is it syncs in the morning when I wake up just fine without having to do anything.
When it stops receiving notifications both devices say they're still paired.
I have tried forgetting the device and then reconnecting. I have checked that my Pebble app isn't in the lock-screen cleanup list for the Huawei management. The Pebble app has Permissions to notifications. I do have the persistent notification within the Pebble app enabled. This happened before the Pebble servers went down and even after switching to Rebble. I do have Google Wear OS installed. Should I try using GadgetBridge?
My brother has the exact same watch with his iOS device and it works flawlessly.
Phone: Huawei Honor 6x Android 7.0
Pebble: v3.12.3
Is there something happening with the phones Bluetooth connection? Is it the Android operating system putting the app into sleep or something. Is it going into power save mode or something? If rooting my phone will provide a fix I am willing to do so.

You can try to exclude the app from androids Power saving. Also gadgetbridge can be tested(I'm using it with my PTS).
I tried gadget bridge and that does the same thing. Also I have it removed from my power management, nothing. I downloaded an app that supposedly keeps the Bluetooth alive. I'll give that a go.
I found a workaround.
I installed an app called BluetoothKeepActive and that seemed to fix the problem. It seems that my presumption was correct. The Bluetooth is going into standby mode or power management mode or something.

Seems to be an kernel issue of your phone imo.

Question Has anyone had trouble with Android Auto

I've found that my phone has *the most annoying bug* with Android Auto - AA will work absolutely fine when you connect the phone, but then freezes / stops responding as soon as the phone's screen timeout expires and the phone auto-locks.
AA doesn't freeze, when using the same cable and same car, if I swap the phone to being my OnePlus 8 Pro - which suggests this is definitely a Find X3 Pro issue
(I'm on the 15 firmware, and at the moment can't get it to update, no matter what I do)
@stuclark
I'm on a UK unlocked device and mine won't update either . Still on A15.
That said I tested AA for 2 X 30min trips ( WFH still ) and did NOT have this bug .
I have seen it mentioned in Oppo advert threads on Facebook , they responded each time saying they were aware and working on it . So far I do not put much faith in their updates though.

Thanks for the reply - I guess we'll wait to see what the firmware update brings (I've tried uninstalling and re-installing AA, but that doesn't downgrade me to an older version I can use). I'll have a go on facebook and the ColorOS forums
@stuclark . Probably worth opening ticket on chat / Twitter DM with them so they are aware. The more the better.
Not surprisingly, the answer from Oppo is:
It's an Android Auto bug. It will be fixed when they release a new version. Until then, set the screen to stay on whilst the phone is charging (in developer options)
Yup. Welcome to Oppo.
Seems the bug has been present for the year the X2 has been out. So dont hold your breath on a fix.
For me it worked to shut down the always on display function

Try turning off always on display, worked for me.
Good evening I live in France and I test Android auto because some of you have problems with the application and I wanted to know if it was the same with my X3 pro. I use the app for over an hour and don't notice any worries. Good luck to all
P.S: I'm under the latest oppo update with the A17

Thanks for your answer - Android Auto does indeed seem better under A17 than the previous (UK certainly) A15 release.
It also helps to turn off third party navigation apps, such as Sygic or Waze - these seem to exacerbate the Android Auto issues with this phone (but work perfectly on other devices)
Images on the lock screen, crash the Android Auto. It is an OS problem. Here is what to do, till the problem is solved :
-Go to Settings, Security, Smart Lock and and your car a trusted device. That way you have your phone unlocked while driving and fingerprint disappears.
(You can also remove fingerprint from lock screen by going to Settings, Passwords & Biometrics, Fingerprint, Screen-off unlock and select off, but then you have to wake up your phone before being able to use fingerprint)
-Go to Settings, ..Always-On Display, Always-On Display and disable it. (You can also select Always-On Display with battery saver, which turns off image after some seconds, but on those seconds, the Andriod Auto is crashed)
