Using safestrap
Is there an odin file for Oreo yet? Cause if we have an odin file I believe we can get root for Oreo. I keep seeing OTA update for oreo, but with safestrap installed as recovery I believe if we have an odin file of Oreo we should be able to flash the system.img in odin boot to safestrap and root it with SuperSU. I think we would need a bootloader v2 most likely and use samfail bootloader v2, bl3 might work but I don't know.
I cannot find an odin file for Oreo anyone have a link to one not on bl3, if there is one on bl3 someone who is already on bl3 should try this as I do not want to move to bl3 yet. I will try if someone has a bl2 odin file of oreo though.
The steps would be same as flashing samfail for the most part, first install safestrap, create a backup so if it doesn't work you can flash samfail and safestrap and load your backup that way.
Once you have safestrap installed boot into bootloader and flash only the system.img of the oreo odin file, might need to flash the csc I am not sure but once you have it installed if safestrap stays installed as recovery it should be an easy boot to safestrap flash SuperSU and then boot Oreo.
you need combo fo oreo in order to properly boot up as permissive. Otherwise you will get the same thing ive had for months.

I'm trying to root and flash TWRP on the latest T-Mobile firmware (OF8) without tripping knox, but I'm not sure if TWRP is compatible with it. I don't want to flash it through Odin and have it fail then get in a bootloop/brick.
I'm using 2.8.7.1 on OF8 without issue. :good:
so am i ...
Yes its fine. I'm using on OF8 as well... You HAVE to flash a different kernel tho from what I understand to avoid the bootloop. UniKernel is what I'm using. And its FAST!
You have to flash a kernel such as Unikernel/Unibase before you start delving into the recovery. If you dont, you'll get stuck in a very annoying loop.
Hi,
Sprint Note 5 here. Basically I'm just trying to get my phone to be unrooted to pass SafetyNet (Android Pay, Pokemon Go, and others) but have some system modications (adaway and removed boot sounds mainly).
What I did do is flash stock odin firmware, then twrp, supersu, and make my changes. Then if I just unroot with supersu it still fails SafetyNet. If I unroot and tell SuperSU to restore boot.img then I get a bootloop. Probably due to TWRP still being there and not stock Recovery? So I thought maybe from there I can just flash boot and recovery via odin but that didn't seem to work either. Is it possible to take the stock firmware and flash whatever I need except system? Or not possible to alter system and go back to stock boot/recovery?
Edit: I took stock firmware, extracted it, removed system.img, and repacked it up (sboot.bin, modem.bin, recovery.img, cm.bin, boot.img, cache.img) and flashed it . It works but then brings me to some "system update" screen and then stock recovery with a verity failed error. Reboot to device just bootloops. Maybe I need to just remove more than just system?
Tried to reroot with latest firmware N910TUVU2EQC1. Supersu fails to flash during the boot image patcher portion.
Method I did so far:
1. Update firmware via smart switch. I originally tried to flash via downloaded link but it didn't work so I tried the firmware officially from samsung via smart switch thinking there might have been a bad download link.
2. Odin flash twrp 3.0.2
3. Reboot
4. Try to flash supersu 2.79 va Twrp.
5. Fails during installation process, specifically during the boot image patcher. Tried wiping calche/davik, etc first. Still can't get root.

What about try to flash this room probably it will work https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...rom-n910t3uvu3eqc1-stock-rooted-odex-t3592242. its a stock rooted rom.
I hope you don't have a bad memory problem as many people does. good luck
I was able to flash superSU finally after doing a complete factory wipe and firmware update via smart switch. I deleted some factory installed apps on the last firmware which probably caused some kind of issues when I upgraded to the latest firmware.
On another note, I have the DRK failed to verify message, I have had it since I have had the phone. Any suggestions to fix this? I just did a factory restore via smart switch so I know that doesn't fix it.

Maybe try flashing 'no-verity-opt-encrypt' and 'RMM Bypass' zip files?
EDIT: Flash Magisk zip too (it removes dm-verity), and format the data partition

It'll be rooted when you flash Magisk. And install the Magisk Manager APK too, to allow root control.
I actually rooted without TWRP by flashing the patched boot image generated from Magisk, and then performed a factory reset because file integrity couldn't be verified. But the Magisk binaries worked.
Amazing, can you pls Upload your Modified Bootloader for me and all People here ?
For make the Galaxy M10 open for users and Dev's.
Sorry for the late reply, but it's always better to do it yourself depending on what OTA update you are currently on. Download the firmware, extract the boot image and patch it with Magisk Manager. Then flash it with ODIN or Heimdall while in download mode. Then I had to factory reset because file integrity could not be verified. But the root was preserved.

Can you show us how to extract the boot image and patch it with magisk manager ?
I have on my SM-M105FD the Firmware 8.1.0 and Working Root.
Download the Firmware 8.1.0 on the PC and the AP File put on the Phone.
Download and install magisk apk on your Device and patch the AP in Magisk file.
flash the Firmware full with Odin but put on the AP Option the Patched AP file flash and work.
I have with Magisk install the Xposed Framework and install nice plugins.
My phone became stuck in a boot loop so i tried to go back but whenever i try to flash the stock rom through odin it says sw REV. Check fail (Bootloader) Device: 2, Binary 1

Hello forum, I have been trying to root my motorola G6..
After much struggle, getting stuck in a boot loop and other issues I finally have restored stock roms and now have build PPS29-118-15-11 installed. So at least the phone works again My bootloader is unlocked.
But I still want to root it.
I think I understand the procedure well enough, but I am unsure of the correct/best versions I need for the ROMS/boot, Magisk, and TWRP.
ROMS/boot:
I found a youtube with instructions for updating Android v9
But I haven't tried it as this recommends a boot img:
OPS27.104-15-10_no-verity_boot.img
OPS27.104-15-10_no-verity_boot.img | by dejello for Moto G6
Download GApps, Roms, Kernels, Themes, Firmware, and more. Free file hosting for all Android developers.
androidfilehost.com
I am reluctant to use the above as it looks to be a downgrade from my current version 29-118-15-11.
Also, I thought that the filename prefix "O" indicated oreo instead of "P" for pie? So would this be a version 8 file?
TWRP:
Similarly, I am not sure if I am using the right, or best TWRP version. I currently have twrp-v3.2.3-ali.img
I flash this (with fastboot) and it works but shortly after I encounter the "no command" error (when booting to recovery) and I have to redo it. I am NOT overwriting it with a stock recovery.img.
I have also run into the "encryption password" problem, where I am unable to provide one to decrypt the data partition. So I can't backup the data with twrp (something I really would like to do).
Magisk
I have Magisk-23-0.zip
But I saw a post from brunogroa that recommends installing Magisk 19 and updating it to 23 later. Is this something that is required or can I just install v23?
So, I am looking for the correct versions for ROM, Magisk and TWRP to use, given that I have installed PPS29-118-15-11
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Well I finally have it I think. I noticed a comment in
[GUIDE][ROOT][Moto G6][ALI] TWRP, Root, and Magisk installation guide. by djello
"(you may not need a modified boot image for Magisk)"
When using PIE instead of OREO.
Being an optimist, I gave it a try and it worked... I installed Magisk and was able to verify root access using the Root Checker Basic App. Kept stock boot img.
This is probably not too amazing for the old hands but us newbies need a break every now and them
So in the end, all I had to do was:
(0) Unlock bootloader
(1) Install stock PPS29-118-15-11
Done earlier with another version of twrp.
Install TWRP 3.5.2
(2) fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.5.2_9-0-ali.img
(3) Use twrp to install Magisk
adb push Magisk-v23-0.zip /tmp
Boot phone into recovery and use twrp to install Magisk
(4) Boot the phone into System and verify Magisk is there and use Root Checker App to confirm I am now rooted.
Issues:
I noticed that a security update for
PPS29-118-15-11-5 failed to apply.
The phone boots into recovery mode and asks for the decrypt password. I don't know the password to decrypt data and how to proceed from here.
I suspect that if I flash the stock recovery img the security update might work. If anyone knows please comment ; I will research this also and maybe just try it.

I am stuck in a similar position.
SOLVED IT!!! Followed all of the steps that you posted except I installed Magisk with the patch method because I couldn't get the zip file to push onto the device. Kept getting a read only error, maybe because it wasn't rooted?
Anyway, I am rooted now!!!
