i have a nokia 8 for a month now . im facing this problem on my wifi that only 2.4Ghz signal is displayed in my wifi list, it seems that wifi is not working properly because there are times that 5Ghz signal are displayed in my wifi list. its like sometimes it works sometimes not and take note that in using the same router with 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Also my other phone (Xperia XZ) is working will with both 5Ghz and 2Ghz.
Some routers simply do not work properly with particular phones. I saw such behaviour in the past. Check your Nokia with different router. b
sir i already try on different router, modem ang portable router but i get the same issue.
Try resetting the phone.
i tried it already. reset wifi and data, also factory reset but nothing happened. i already returned to the nokia store. thanks your response sir.
I had the same problem and I think I found the solution,
first of all I tried rebooting and resetting my Nokia 8 and I didn't fix it, updateing the phone did not fix it, returning the phone for a replacement I found that the new phone showed the 5ghz band then an error message appeared and no 5ghz wifi were shown anymore!
the problem is when you set up a new phone you will choose a country, this option will set not only the language but other settings as well among them the channels used by 5ghz wifi in your country! the router might be set to a different country using different channel!
solution: access your router settings and check your wifi 5ghz advanced settings choose a country matching your phone settings and restart your router.
if this didn't work try an android app called wifi analyzer and check channel settings for 5ghz after choosing your country it will show you which channel are open for 5ghz in your country, pick a channel and return to your router 5ghz wlan advanced settings and change the channel option from automatic to your the one from wifi analyzer and apply and restart your router!
hopefully this will work

hi people I am new here!
Any way I got my milestone about 5 days ago and I am quite satisfied with it, exept of the WIFI. My wifi is not listed in the wifis that the phone is getting, somethimes for one seconed or two he is getting my wifi but then disappears again. I have 2.1 android, I tried everything, to change channels, replacing the SSID name, with WEP, without WEP, what I am supposed to do now?
My wifi router is Level One WBR6001 (he is NOT broadcasting only n but b\g mixed)
BTW sorry for my bad english, I am from israel
someone???
When you change the wifi settings, you have to do the same on the phone. GO to he wifi settings, and click forget network, or delete it, than restart the phone.
My settings are :
Mixed Mode, channel 6, WPA-Personal / TKIP and it works very good. Router WRT55GL with Tomato Firmware.
Before i have DLINK 524 and it was crap! Wifi, connect but dont work
If you still have problems, try to connect to the other router of your friend, or on any open network in your city
Greetings!
I have an unrooted OG Droid running on stock Froyo (2.2.3). It's off-contract, but I have been using it by connecting to my wifi router (Netgear WNDR3700). Everything has been working fine until Friday when it stopped connecting to my wifi router. I tried reconnecting, but it cannot seem to find the router at all, even if I'm standing right next to it. My router does not appear on the list of available wi-fi networks when I look at Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-fi settings. The strange thing is that it seems to pick up all of the other wi-fi networks from my neighbors without any problems; it just can't seem to find my wifi router.
All of my other Android devices (Nexus S, Evo 3D, Galaxy Tab, Logitech Revue) can find and connect to my router without any problems. It's just as though the router doesn't even exist from the perspective of the OG Droid. I haven't made any recent configuration changes on any of my devices or router. My other wi-fi devices (laptops, printer) don't have any issues finding and connecting to my router either.
I've tried rebooting, pulling the battery, etc. without any luck. Any ideas?
By chance did you unplug the router, my og DROID loses wifi sometimes and even though phone sees it won't connect but usually resetting router gets it to reconnect.

I haven't done that yet, because as far as I can tell, the router is working fine. The issue that I'm seeing differs from yours as the phone doesn't even see the router right now.
It's a bug in Android. Delete all the remembered wifi accounts on the phone and then you should be able to scan again. Once you scan, it should pick up the router again. Had this happen on a couple different android devices.

I gave this a try, but it didn't work. I can still see all of the other available wi-fi networks near me, but not my own router. Any other thoughts?

I've had this with my router whenever i reset it.
its because there are too many routers in your area on the same wifi channels . change the channel your router is on until its one with less or no routers on it and it will appear eventaullly.

I have same problem with you.
My LWW cannot find/detect the home wifi, but another device (laptop and samsung galaxy mini) can work well with the wifi network.
but my LWW can find another wifi network except my home network. but sometimes when I don't use the LWW for long time, and when I started to turn the wifi on, it can work well. but after I stopped the connection and start to use the wifi again, it cannot find the network again
I just had the same problem and fixed it.
Sometimes routers are configured to select and use the less crowded wireless channel. That can cause your wifi to eventually use channel 12 or 14. Like sleepyguy007 said, it is more likely to happen if there are too many wifis in the area and all channels are crowded.
As far as I know, Android devices are by default configured to scan only up to channel 11. So if the wifi is in 12 or 14, it will not be recognized.
Go to the wifi config screen, where all the networks are listed. There, with the menu button, go to "Advanced"->"Regulator domain" and set Android to scan all 14 channels, that should do the trick.
I hope that is the cause of the problem and you can fix it... Otherwise it could be a bug, and the solution may be harder
I'm so happy & surprised!!!
I had same problem and with your helps(phobophille & sleepyguy007) my problem solved:laugh: :fingers-crossed: :good:

I just got an Sony Xperia T,
now I was trying to connect is to my router with the 5ghz-band, but the Xperia T can't find the network,
so then manually added the network, inserterd password, but then it says that the network isn't within reach,
but i'm sitting next to the router, the 2.4ghz-band works fine, and sony confirms that the phone should work with
the 5ghz-band in the white paper of the phone. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
BTW, my router is a Netgear WNDR3700 Dual Band.

On your router have you set it to dual band as a lot of the time they have it defaulted to 2.4 b/g so you'd need to change it to auto or whatever option allows all. On my Linksys it says 2.4 and 5 as an option in the dropdown. That would be the only reason I can think of. Have you tried with any other device to connect to your 5ghz network?
Likely a router compatibility issue. I can connect to a Linksys e4200 on 5ghz with no problems

My Xperia T refuses to connect to my WiFi AP. It's only 2.4GHz, but according to the logs on the AP, it isn't even trying. On the phone side I very briefly see "Connecting" or similar on the AP list, then it reverts to Saved.
Log on phone is filled with entries like this:
Code:
I/wpa_supplicant( 565): wlan0: Trying to associate with 00:0c:42:XX:XX:XX (SSID='LFWnet' freq=2412 MHz)
I/wpa_supplicant( 565): wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-ASSOC-REJECT bssid=00:0c:42:XX:XX:XX status_code=1
MAC's partially XX'd
This happened on the stock Vodafone ROM, and still occurs on the Generic UK posted in General. I have tried WPA and WPA2, TKIP and AES, different channels, disabling N etc etc, still the same
Tried soft/hard reboots, wipes etc, nothing. It has connected to other public and protected AP's fine.
Am gutted as changing my AP to work around this problem is a no-go. Not had any problems with various other laptops and phones, including other SE/Xperia devices.

I'm on generic UK rom and using a BT Home Hub without any problems. I've also got my old dLink wireless n router I use as a print server and it works fine with that too. My brother has a Sky router (Netgear I think) and that works fine.
I think you must be unlucky.
---------- Post added at 07:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:07 AM ----------
Is your SSID published? Have you tried turning off all security on the router to see if you can connect then? (obviously I'm not suggesting you leave it unsecured but it is something to try.)
Also, posting your router details may give you an idea if others have been successful with that router before you splash any cash on a new one.
Hi, my Xperia T also is not able to connect with my e4200 5 GHz WiFi. My Laptop and a Samsung Phone works without any problems... I read (sorry I don´t remember the forum link) Sony did not enable the 5 GHz frequency because of driver issues. But if it works on some phones, maybe it´s a provider specific issue like the permanent bootloader lock?
Might be worth updating the firmware of your router?

I think I found the problem, the 5ghz band of my router doesn't have much range appearently, when i'm trying to find the 5ghz band outside of my house, i can't find it, I can only find it when i'm in my room, that's where the router stands, but the 2.4 ghz band has a much better range, I can connect to is almost 20-30 meters outside of my house. I'm wondering when Netgear is coming out with an update for my router, hopefully that will solve the problem, or maybe it will be solved when the Xperia T gets an update to Jelly Bean.

Hi there,
I've just bought the Xperia T and I'm pretty disappointed I can't use my home wifi.
I'm having exactly the same problem - I can see my connection and connect (sometimes) but it is a very poor connection, then after a minute or says "Not in range". If I go outside (which is actually closer to where the modem is) I can get data at an acceptable speed.
Sorry I'm such a noob but can you explain to me where the limitation lies and how I might fix it. Every other device used in the house works - even an old iphone 3gs - I'm surprised Sony's newest phone hasn't implemented technology that must have been in use for years.
Or if it is the modem - any ideas on how to change it.
Sorry - can't give you details - the modem is locked in the landlords garage - so I can't see what make it is.
Thanks for helping a noob.
I have faced the same problem with my TX when connecting to my AP.
I think there is WIFI problem in receiving the WIFI signal of security mode WPA2/WPA.
You can change the WIFI security mode to WEP or No security.
My device can connect the WEP mode WIFI.
Hope you can solve the problem!

Hmmm, that's strange - my modem is set to WEP and it's not really a connection problem but a signal strength problem. But like I said - no other device has this issue. It is hard to test - right now I'm accessing this from a cloud connection which is average compared to another I used this morning, though much better than at home. But I don't know how close I am to the transmitter right now.
Hello again,
I'm still trying to get to the bottom of this:
So my Xperia T can connect and use the wifi in my house fine IF I am within 2-3 metres of my router, which has the following settings -
O2 Wireless Box, model - TG585v7
Software release - 8.2.7.7
Boot loader 1.0.0
Interface Type: 802.11b/g
Band: 2.4G Hz (This unfortunately cannot be changed)
It is currently set to WEP security but when I changed to WPA-2 there was still no change - could only connect when a couple of metres away.
Also even when holding my phone 10cm away from the router I still only get a "Good" connection. So I started to think it must be my phone that is faulty - I've been to coffee shops and picked up the free Cloud wifi ok, though one kept dropping in and out. And I have been into mobile phone shops testing their wifi and it connects.
But yesterday I went to Carphone Warehouse and compared to one of their demo Xperia T phones - the demo was connected to their wifi fine yet my phone could not even "see" their connection - I was sure it was my phone.
But now I'm really confused - today I went to a different Carphone warehouse - there was no demo phone but I picked up their signal and the quality was "Excellent" - something I'd never seen before.
My phone is locked to T-Mobile - can a carrier locked phone somehow restrict access to certain routers?? Seems very weird to me, though I am quite a novice at all of this.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
locked phone won't block AP access... maybe backup your data and try master reset.. factory reset... don't need erase sd card.

Are you using the T-Mobile WiFi app? If so delete your connection from settings, then set your home WiFi via the T-Mobile app, it may be connecting to the open one not your full one.
If you don't use the app, I would change the channel on the router and try that.

Hello forum members.
I want to share with You My Mi5 Pro WiFi problems, hoping someone can give advice so i can use my Mi5 Pro again.
The phone's WiFi has some issues:
It scan and display all networks, but can't connect to 2.4GHz networks.
It connects and work fine with some 5GHz networks. Also connect and work fine with 5GHz hotspot networks.
Bluetooth is working fine.
MiDrop can scan, but can't connect and transfer.
Hotspot is working only on 5GHz mode. On 2.4GHz can't share or connect to other.*
What I have tried to solve the issues:
Reset the phone.
Update the phone.
Flash other MIUI.
Unlock and flash other Android.
Rooted the phone and changed the WiFi MAC address (on MIUI).
Erased and flashed the modem (NON-HLOS.bin)(on MIUI).
No changes after all my attempts.*
And also, after all My attempts, I have noticed something. When I try to connect to 2.4GHz network (unsuccessful of course) and leave the WiFi on or off (the WiFi is not connected) , the phone's battery is draining very fast. If I connect to 5GHz network (successfully), and after that turn off the WiFi,**the battery is not draining fast.
If someone have any advice, or something I can check or share more info, I'm here and waiting.*
Thanks.
PS:Correction, 5GHz is not working with any router. More specifically, it's not working with most routers.
Maybe it's hardware problem. WIFI antenas disconnected?
Maybe, bit i hope it's software.
When i remove the antennas there is no wi-fi networks even detected, or only the closest ones are shown very weakly.
My note 9 (exynos) is not picking up the 5Ghz wifi. Only sees 2.4Ghz. Wifi analyzer also picks up 2.4Ghz only.
Bad unit?
did you try to clean the cache? I had an issue with the download speed & lag, then i cleaned cache just before i was about to factory reset. I'm picking up 5Ghz without issue.
Cleaned cache. Still no 5GHz wifi.
Ok, so i did a bit of googling. I have a Netgear Nighthawk router which seems to have problems with many different android devices. One of the solutions posted suggested to manually set a channel and reboot the router. I set the 5 GHz channel to 153, rebooted and hey presto! the phone picked up the signal.
Posting the solution here so that it helps someone.
As in no 5ghz at all no matter whose 5ghz you scan for?
i didnt have another 5ghz network to check against. most networks are still 2.4ghz around here
