How does VoLTE Work On This Phone - Nokia 8 Questions & Answers

Is there any switch that enable/disable volte because when i restart my phone it boots up as VoLTE enabled but after 1-2 days it disables itself. Also my carrier Vodafone Tr labeled Nokia 8 as VoLTE supported phone. And i am in "what in the actual hell?" state. Any of you guys have faced this problem or have a solution?

My SIM is provisioned for VoLTE and like you i have no idea what the phone is up to regarding its actual status. No VoLTE indicators ever show and the Enhanced 4G LTE menu has never shown up. However if i make a call since the SIM was provisioned the phone no longer drops to 2 or 3G it remains on 4G for the entire call so i have no idea what it is playing at.

Strangely i do have VoLTE icon on statusbar when it is available and from my observations when 4g is not available it goes back to 3g, when 4g available again VoLTE icon does not come back and when i make a call it drops to 3g. I don't know if this is network problem or phone's problem but this drives me crazy.

Once volte works little "HD" appears on the in call screen.

I sometimes see the HD icon but no VoLTE anywhere else, i guess it must be working ok then.

It's the same naming as 4G in UK but LTE everywhere else.

T-Mobile US LTE Issues!

Hello,
I've searched the forums and haven't found an answer to this issue I'm having.
I have a Huawei P10 Plus VKY-L29 model and I'm having issues connecting to LTE on T-Mobile US. In areas where is it supposed to be LTE, the signal displays "4G+". I know there's the argument that 4G+ is LTE but then there's the problem where other people are on LTE and I will be on 4G in the same area. Also, whenever I make a call (whether on 4G or 4G+) before the call begins to ring, it will revert to nothing higher than 3G and then connect the call. This is an issue because my phone will also not receive calls unless 3G is available (which is not always the case) and will send the caller straight to voicemail and I will get no notification that they called unless they leave a voicemail. I assume this is a VoLTE (Voice over LTE) thing. I want to note that I do have the Virtual HD call move enabled in Dialer settings. There is no VoLTE setting in the device though. I was searching for the engineering code for Huawei devices in case there's a "LTE/4G/3G/2G" option that is not enabled but have not found one that works for this device.
My device is not rooted.
Please help!
Thank you!

You have to check your carrier whether they enable and support VOLTE for P10 plus. My carrier in my country only support few mobile devices for VOLTE and including P10. VOLTE is a service provide by carrier. Not phone. Hope it helps.

VOLTE T-Mobile, not working (WORKING as of last update)

I'm experiencing issues with VOLTE on T-Mobile. My phone switches immediately from an LTE+ DATA connection to HSPA the moment a call is placed. Of course, VOLTE is enabled on the settings side. I'm running an unmodified system, upgraded to PIE.
I've been on the phone with T-Mo to make sure the APN is correct (nothing special to mention here). I've also tried different connection combinations using the *#*#4636#*#* with different results but, even though the phone connects really fast to DATA (LTE+), I cannot get VOLTE to function in any case. On the other hand, WiFi calling works just fine.
On a chat with Razer, they just told me that VOLTE is unstable with T-Mobile and, to disable the function altogether from settings.
Before I give up, I'm asking the geniuses here for ideas or experiences? Any ideas anyone?

I hope this can be figured out. Im waiting for my Razer 2 phone delivery and also on T-Mobile. What OS are you running? Android Pie?
Yes, I'm on Pie.
Good news! with today's update (3-20-2019), my phone is using VOLTE technologies to connect audio calls. Phone calls sound immensely better now (the "HD" icon shows up during the call and the "LTE+" connection indicator in the status bar remains through the call).

Unlocked variant on t-mobile

I have an Unlocked variant which I purchased directly from Samsung.
I don't happen to see VOLTE settings in my mobile networks setting.
Is this normal? I have seen another user post a screenshot from his/her phone which shows VoLTE setting (Telcel network) which can be turned off or on,but my phone doesnt have that.
I am on Tmobile.
tmobile phones have never displayed any VoLTE icons or notifications. Its carrier dependant on if they show it or not.
Unlocked US S10s has every Tmobile feature except Multiline Digits and probably their crappy RCS service
It's also missing the Tmo Video calling.
i have t mobile and always buy samsung international phones. volte, wifi calling,
video calling, and download booster usually dont work until i change the csc to tmo. i would think the ability to do so will be coming once the phone is rooted and out for a while.

1. Normal. The icon is disabled, but the feature isn't.
2. Yes. Testing VoLTE is as simple as placing a call. Phones w/o VoLTE will drop to 3G/2G OR fail if LTE is the only signal avail.
3. VoLTE toggle is missing. I sent feedback to Samsung about this some time ago.

VoLTE not working :(

I can't seem to get VoLTE working on my RM3.
I'm with Telstra (major Australian mobile carrier) and have confirmed that they have activated VoLTE on my service.
I have ensured 'Enhanced 4G LTE Mode' is turned on in Settings.
Have restarted phone several times, reset network/sim settings etc, etc but VoLTE is still not showing or working.
Is it working for others? Any assistance you can provide please @JerryYin ?

It's strange that the VOLTE is not working, it should be supported by deafult. Which firmware you are using?

NX629J_ENCommon_V2.09 although when I go in and check for software updates it says my current version is 3.0
Have checked service menu and "VoLTE provisioned" is turned on (is there anything else I need to check in here?)
Thanks.
Edit - I've also tried a sim from a different mobile provider in my RM3 and no VoLTE with that sim/carrier either

If your operator is based on a gsm network, it may not work, I'm using China Telecom and I can get VOLTE working, it is a CDMA operator, however, my another gsm based sim card can not get the VOLTE working on NX629. I'm not sure that the Red Maic 3 can woek on all operator and all get the VOLTE function. Sorry for that.

But VoLTE does work in Australia with all of our major mobile networks so that shouldn't be the issue?
Could it be that our two main carriers both use LTE Band 28 for 'best' 4G connection and the RM3 that I was sent does not have that?
EU Version
FDD-LTE: Band 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/20/26
TDD-LTE: Band 34/38/39/40/41
TD-SCDMA: Band 34/39
WCDMA(WCDMA): Band 1/2/4/5/8/9/19
CDMA: BC0/BC1 GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
NA Version
FDD-LTE: Band 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/20/25/26/28/30/66
TDD-LTE: Band 34/38/39/40/41

WCDMA(WCDMA):Band 1/2/4/5/8/9/19

Can any other RM3 users please comment on if they have VoLTE working or not?
No Volte on UK's EE network.
On top of that, I can't even use "enhanced LTE" option, if I turn it on I get no caller id (when someone calls me I only get unknown caller instead of the name or number of the person).
In india Global version VOLTE is working perfectly for both sims on global Rom as well as Chinese ROM. You dont ses VOLTE but HD icon next to signal bar in CN rom. On vlobal rom when you are calling someone you see HD.

Interesting. Thanks for the info.
Firstly, my sim settings look different to yours, not sure why Nubia has made this setting different in roms for the same phone?
Secondly, I managed to have VoLTE work today with a different mobile carrier sim - I tested and 4G was remaining on during calls! But no VoLTE or HD symbol was evident in the notification bar along the top. @JerryYin can you please confirm if the VoLTE symbol should show on RM3 software? If not, can this be added in a software update please.
check in the calling screen HD should appear.

Yes it does but I really thought the VoLTE symbol should appear in the notification bar?
On my OnePlus 6T, the VoLTE symbol is permanently displayed in the bar when VoLTE is turned on.
Nubia's way of VOLTE = HD

voLTE does work on EE. If you have enhanced LTE option turned on and make a call I think you'll find that the call is made via 4g. It also has WiFi calling on EE which can be enabled through the phone app.
Like you say though, using voLTE and WiFi calling does render incoming calls as showing unknown numbers. I'm still trying to figure out why it does this, it's obviously something to do with the IMS settings as it's not optimized to work on EE's network.

Please let us know if you figure it out.
WiFi calling would be great for me, as cellular signal is poor in my area.

Don't know why but if you have a Lte connection showing and when you make a call and the Lte symbol stays that means VoLte works.

It's because VoLTE is Voice over LTE.
If the call is not established over LTE then connection drops to 3G/UMTS during the call
Did you actually understand what I wrote?

I cited your part about icon and explained you why LTE icon disappears if call is not established.
LTE is data connection and for non VoLTE call, connection drops to 3G/UMTS.
Therefore, you are in the call:
- if LTE stays, it means call goes over LTE = VoLTE call
- if LTE disappears, call was not established over LTE
Not specific to Xiaomi, you can Google about
Not answering why you cannot establish VoLTE calls
Yeah thanks guys, after some random restart the icons now working fine

Hi, I have a similar issue with Mi11 and MIUI 12: no VOLTE icon in taskbar and no HD badge in dialer during a call.
SIM is fine: if I put it in a Samsung the HD badge in dialer shows up, also 4G remains active during call.
same issue in Mi 11x pro!
Miui 12.5 is still not refined.
