Yea look at samfail page.
Verify what softwear version you are on and use appropriate version,
There is no root for 8.0 so you will have to downgrade to a older U3 bootloader to root if on 8.0
Ok Im on oreo 8.0, I have never rooted this phone but looking at the steps on samfail its 3 different versions of it and what im getting is you have to flash them in order but someone says just flash samfailv3, can some one please tell me what bootloader i need, the proper steps, just a complete walkthrough because i dont wanna mess my phone up and i wanna make sure im doing this correctly, thanks in advance or at least tell me what all i need instead of directing me to samfail thread, its alot going on in that thread and my brain cant process it all.

If I downgrade i can prevent bootloop for one, secondly there are many qualities to root, dual speakers, custom roms when they roll out, etc. Reasons y I wanna root it.

This is essentially a RTFM situation. You won't find much help unless you can actually demonstrate something. If you were stuck at a particular step, someone could help you, but you are asking for a walk through for just the first step.
Yes those mods are available to rooted note 8's but do you know how to apply them, or would you be right back here asking for a step-by-step guide for that as well?
Please don't think I (or anyone) is trying to be mean here. You just need to do your own research and figure it out, and if you brick your phone, you brick your phone. That is how many of us learned.
Come back with some actual questions and you will get actual answers. That said, your "how-to" has already been written here
Basically you need to figure out which firmware you have installed, downgrade via ODIN if not compatible, follow the rest of the steps using ODIN, and you'll have root. If you've rooted a Samsung device before this should not be difficult for you.
STAYING STOCK and safe.
Over the years, the only two reasons I would root my Android phone:
Get rid of ads
Hotspot
With the Note-8, you can modify the settings and get hotspot to work w/out rooting...........there's a thread out there for instructions.
I found an app that controls/eliminates the ads via VPN, runs in the background with very little battery drainage if any at all.
You can also download DnsChanger(Open Source) from the PlayStore and use these DNS Servers from AdGuard to block advertisements, tracking, and phishing globally on your phone.

Yes. That will always be a thing unless the bootloader gets unlocked.
that 80% thing definitely makes it a no go for me

There's no advantage to root unless you have a custom recovery. Also you don't need root to run custom ROMs, a custom recovery will do all you need, plus most ROMs come rooted.
Point is, I'd rather have a custom recovery over root. The custom recovery will fix a bootloop, flash ROMs, themes, apps and maybe one or two things I'm forgetting.
Lastly, I'm not seeing any custom recoveries for carrier locked Note 8s. Heck, unless I'm missing something, I'm seeing anything for unlocked ones.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to (very easily) auto-root my SPRINT GS4 using Chainfire's auto-root.

Please give him all credit - I just wanted to make sure that if someone came looking here they could get info on how to root and where to look rather than hunting all over XDA.

I did charge it to full, but there are many varying schools of thought on that subject. Typically I charge to full then run to 0 and charge to full a few cycles. I have my phone in my dock right now, but the cord to the dock unplugged so it isn't charging.
Not trying to be a kill joy by any means but people Chainfire is a pretty smart dude and has created a lot of things. Not saying that this wont work on Sprint variant but make sure you see his disclaimer.
NOTE:
Some have reported success on Sprint S4's, though I still advise against using it and waiting for a Sprint specific version.
I used this root method, too. Everything is working great.

does this cause the yellow triangle to appear on the boot screen?
I successfully used Motochopper as well. It took me several times to get the ADB prompt to show, but it showed when I had entered the Dev Options menu.

No but it might show your device as custom in Odin and under About device:Status Didn't check it before I flashed CWM. Triangle away doesn't clear it yet.
So which is the best method?

At this point, it's a use and test function of root required applications..
We have had a report of an application not functioning properly on Motochopper where CF's Autoroot works just fine.
Use and report is the best response to your question.
I've tried every root app I could think of and so far no issues with the CF method. Of course YMMV.

I actually did mototchopper method. Worked perfect. Easy to unroot if I want. People having problems with certain apps might not have had busybox installed. That was the first root app I installed and I haven't had a single issue. Does cf-auto root automatically install busybox? Also, does anyone know which apps are safe to remove or freeze? Any working recoveries out yet?

Well you can't flash anything cause your bootloader is locked. You can do some pretty cool stuff still with xposed framework and the wanam module. Theres a thread about it in the ATT themes and app section. You can do a lot more with root, xposed and wanam than you could ever dream of with a apple device.

Kingo root. Its literally the easiest thing ever. This is my first android device and I haven't seen a single problem with it or the Roms I've flashed.
I'm having issues with Kingo root -- can someone explain what MJ5 stands for?

To getting so more stuff is now available via OTA and gained around 27MB in size to download. If your device was rooted with ‘root de la vega’ then you must see to it first on how to kepp your device rooted for you are about to end your root privileged once you took this update.

Ok, so I got my new n3 rooted using kingo, then updated to 4.4.2 using the one click file which softbricked me for some reason. I think it was because of the root and I didnt undo it. Or maybe the safestrap I installed and didnt undo before update. Either way, I just restarted my phone and did oneclick again and it worked like a charm.
Now I am here with 4.4.2 and I like it. Well, not as much as non touchwiz version... but I need s pen functions or I shouldnt even have a note! Basically I need to know if kingo will work on my 4.4.2 now. I am reluctant to try because I dont wanna soft brick and have no way back to anything. Ive done that before and it took me days to get back to a stock rom. So does anyone know if I can use kingo to get root again?
Next question... I want to install the custom keyboard that someone posted in the rom section. There are pretty colors and I want them! Does anyone know how to do this? It is in a zip file and apparently has an aroma installer. Do I just use safestrap and flash like normal? This locked bootloader is a pain in the ass.
Last question... the same guy whi posted the keyboard also has a custom theme in his files for the n3... I am not sure how to use that either. It again is a zip, but im not sure its supposed to be flashed and even which way to flash it if it is. Any insight would be appreciated, I need all the pretty stuff.
So those are my questions. I hope someone has the answers.
I hope at&t rots in hell for having this locked bootloader. I bought this phone second hand ao I could put it on straight talk. Only went with at&t so it would be easiest to assure I got 4g lte... shoulda done more research on the phone because this is bullsh*t. There is no reason to lock the bootloader like this. Free my phone at&t!

Can anyone answer any of my questions? I'm itching to do stuff to my n3 but I'm scared lol
Guess no one knows! I'm surprised
If you took the 4.4.2 leak, you also took another boot loader. Kingo will not root you. Nothing will right now. Unfortunately this is what happens when you don't read. Whatever is broken will remain broken until such time as an ota is provided from ATT or a root exploit is found. Neither of which will be anytime soon I think. Sorry for your luck.
Edit: in case you missed it in the designgears leak thread.... Don't try to downgrade yourself back to 4.3. It won't work and bad things will happen.
Cheers

The restore to MJ5 was recently confirmed. I flashed 4.4.2 as well but I read the thread before I did it. However, I did not lose root. I believe the OP was updated to include root in 4.4.2. I didn't have to do anything to regain root except download SU.
I hope this helps. You may try to download that, you may already have root!!!

Read back in the thread a few pages - 1) GeoHot works for Google now. Hired to find and close exploits like the one towelroot used to root devices; 2) towelroot used a specific vulnerability in kernels dated before June 3. If your kernel is dated after June 3, the vulnerability has been patched and there is nothing GeoHot can "fix" to make towelroot work on your device; and related to that 3) either your phone has the vulnerability or it doesn't and towelroot either works to root your device or it doesn't and there is nothing GeoHot can do to fix towelroot to make it work for your device. Plus, like I said before GeoHot works for Google now so he can't create programs or apps that root phones by exploiting vulnerabilities he is supposed to now be fixing. Look on the bright side. We needed CM and other AOSP variants in the past because most devices performed like crap. Now while not as smooth as stock Android, still rather speedy. Customization can be done with xposed mods.
Even if stuck on stock, it's not really that bad, to be honest.

At least you had the 3G model and official JB (Asia only) . My Wi Fi model was thrown into the dung heap by Samsung after less than 12 months and no official JB or support theater.... Thanks to bodivas for the initial port to the P6810, I could then work from there with newer contributions.
They just ignore the GPL license to support devices for at min of 18 months. There are other OEM that refuse to provide full source too. What does Google do, nothing....
The only way is as you implied, to be proactive and help ourselves (and others) where skill/knowledge and time permit
Good modding !!
More than one way to skin a cat also....
I think they will have support for android L since the specs of the tab S match the requirements of the OS
it's easier for samsung to develop android L for exynos device . i hope my tab will have android L teeheehee
On which webpage provide SAMSUNG there (patched) opensource?
At least recovery image include binary which can't compiled from android source...

rooting late version AT&T S5
Check your firmware . it probably ends in NG3, for towelroot to work you need to flash the kernal only from NC3. There is a specific thread, for that, ill try to find it and post a link. Have you installed KIes? If you do you'll get the latest driver, and in kies under tools you can update that driver. You may also be able to use Mobile Odin, but I gave not used it. You may want to pykk the battery and the cable, pkug the battery in, and boot into dowload. Holding power, home, and volume down. Press volume up at the prompt.
