I got this note 8 new unlocked no carrier etc, first day I owned it did upgrade from 7 --> 8. No issues but seemed laggy I had alot of apps and played with som3 settings, after getting a good feel for how I wanted this device configured long term I decided on factory reset.
Since then, dev. Options is gone. Yes I tap the tappy thing 7 to 100 times and get message "you are now developer" but is a lie. No such option. Only empty longing where should be. Do again and message "already developer" another lie.
This device junk?

Best bet is to try resetting one more time. Can you post a screenshot of your settings page ?

So, indeed, I did try to factory reset again, same result. I took screen shots but I cant post them up just yet, forum rules, but all they show is android telling me that dev. options already enabled, then a shot of the place where dev. Options should be but is not.
If I could hazard a guess, and I am not by any means as savvy with this as most of you, but here is what I have noticed and suspect:
I got this device from rent a center new with android 7. RAC uses admin software to lock you out if you dont pay, but I have never "run into" that software or seen an effect due to it. On android 7, I had dev options. I also had an LG G6 from RAC on android 7, same thing no issues and had dev options.
Then upgrade the Note8 to Oreo, great, love it... still had dev options. Then reset a few weeks later as described above, and no more dev options.
Here is the differences I have noticed:
When going through initial device setup on android 8, it has a Knox Configuration process that I didnt see when initializing same device but android 7.
Also, there is more Knox software than there was before. For example, "KC Client" is a new app in my list after this reset. I could be mistaken though, I wasnt exactly looking out for such changes.
Is it possibke that Knox is blocking dev options? If so, this device will be going back to RAC post haste!
I've run into the same problem and mine is from RAC as well.

A few people have had similar problems I saw here and here.
upload screenshots of your settings and About Phone page on linx.li then paste the links to them here.
Have you applied the OTA updates since factory resetting? I would try to apply any updates you can and
Did you clear caches after doing factory reset? Long shot but it might help
To clear your Cache go to to Settings > Device Maintenance > Storage > Click menu (three dots top right) > Storage Settings > Internal Storage > Cached Data > Clear
Then do the Dalvik Cache: Power Phone completely off > Hold down Power, Bixby, and Up Volume button until phone powers on > Keep holding Bixby and Volume up untul recovery screen pops up > Use volume buttons to navigate to wipe cache partition > Press volume to select Wipe cache partition > Select Yes > reboot
With an unlocked phone can't you just put it in download mode and flash twrp? Or are you not familiar with that process?

DId you do the same process? 7 > Oreo > Back to 7 and then no dev options? Or what happened
No I didn't. I just updated to oreo via ota
Was able to access developer options using an app from the play store but as you can see from this screenshot OEM unlock is not clickable. Any ideas on how to circumvent this?

First off I'm using nAa's new ICS rom.
I tried to create a VPN to figure out what exactly it was and I was prompted to put on lock screen protection.
Now I don't want it anymore and I can't get rid of it in the security settings or the VPN settings, or any other settings that I've searched for that matter.
In the lock screen section of security section, the "None" option is grayed out and under it says "Disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage"
Any help would be appreciated!
Don't take it hard on yourself...
No need to take it hard for yourself, simply reset your phone via recovery and you'll have the factory settings again.
You can backup all you staff via Titanium backup.
here is a complete tutorial for you....http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-use-titanium-backup-for-android-complete-guide/
Enjoy
Reset too many times...
I've done that so many times now and I was hoping for a more simple answer.
I feel really dumb, though, because just before reading your reply I realized that removing the VPN that I had created did the trick.
For what reason the lock screen requires a password/pattern when there's a VPN stored on the phone I shall never know.
Clarify your situation
Being a newbie doesn't mean to be dumb
Of course there are lots of other ways, but what's your exact problem right now?
well, different Roms, have different settings but totally when you are going to change something which you have created before like a pattern/pass,an account or a vpn,the devices needs to know that the Owner is gonna change setting and simply asks you the pass.
Was It clear?
What i read today here: http://androidheadlines.com/2012/11...-in-android-4-2-youll-need-these-to-root.html
Google has done something in Android 4.2 that is good for some of their older users. They have hidden the Developer settings. For most of their older users, they don’t need these, and might turn them on by mistake and play with them if they are in plain sight. So Google has hidden them to keep that from happening.
When you go into settings, you’ll notice no Developer settings. So here’s how you get around that:
Tap Settings
Tap About Phone
Tap the Build number 7 times, yes 7 times.
Voila! You’ve got developer settings again.
So that’s that. But if we didn’t tell you, you may never have found it. You’ll also need this to unlock the bootloader and to root your device. We’ll be putting up some more Android 4.2 and Nexus stuff over the next few weeks so stay tuned.

This is smart
By all means, its a good idea; but does that mean there no easter egg in 4.2?! I like flicking jelly beans!!
Hello,
This isn't development. Also, this thread already exists in our General section

Hi Folks
Before we start , A bit of background as I've been reading these forums and I am aware how some may find this a contenious subject, So before anyone goes accusing me of any illegality let me say I have a Kindle Fire 2 and Kindle Fire HD, both in demomode as they were acquired from the Comet UK Firesale after the company went bankrupt late last , Unfortunately I don't think the staff where that dedicated to customer service at that point.
Right Down to business - So in the doing the research the obviously the Factory Cable Method and that's about it isn't it? I thought I have a little play around as my solder skills aren't the great.
The Firmware on the Device is 10.0.2.A I'd expect this to work on earlier firmware, Later ones however I'm not so sure, The Aforementioned Fire HD which I also have has had the Final Part of the process I'm going to describe fixed.
What You Need: Your Fingers and A Wifi network you can connect to!
1. Boot The Fire, Touch To Try The Fire and Run.
2. With the device in Potrait, Press in the search box , three options should appear below the search box ( Libraries , Stores and Web )
3. Press Web. I was the informed I had no network connection, and very nicely asked "If I wished to sign in?"
4. Press the Wireless Settings button which should take you to the wireless network settings. where you can configure a network
5. Download an apk file, any apk file will do , google code have lot, and I've heard this other site, I think it begins with an X They also have a couple
6. Pull the Nofication Bar Down, You should have a notification that the download is complete, Click to install
7. You'll Should Get a notification about non amazon prime apps not being allowed along with the option to change that setting,
8. Press the Settings button to take you into the Device menu. From there you can get into developer option and turn USB Debugging On!
9. An For the Icing on the cake , you can restart adb as root from your PC. as demo seems to have an insecure boot image. lol so you don't even need any root explioits.
Not much else to say other than "All you are demo modes belong to us", I'm glad I didn't go with plan A to update the firmware.
Note: Don't worry If it restart demo mode in the middle as your wifi connection settings are perisisted
Also Keep Unknown Application Sources off and you'll be able to run this process as many times as you like.
I'll post pictures etc later on as I've not removed demo yet. I've not remove demo mode yet.
Like I say this could be very specific to just this version the firmware
Hack On People!
After upgrading to 6.0, i tried to turn on Now On Tap.
I know where the setting is- when i slide it to "on", I get the popup that says "Want any help with any screen? Turn on Now on Tap". When i click "get started" the slider goes back to off.
Anyone else seeing this?

I'm having the same issue with my Nexus 9. Can't find any solutions. I flashed the factory image twice now and wiped everything but the problem persists. :crying:
Getting it on Nexus 5
Working fine for me. Haven't done anything special. Just enabled it. Hit okay. Tried it out in Chrome. Went back to settings and still toggled on.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Okay, found it!
Apparently I can't use my Google App account ([email protected]) with Now on Tap. It works when I switched to my Google account ([email protected]). Hope that helps.
I'm having this problem too, and like you, I have a Google Apps account I'm using for my phone (I own the domain, and am the administrator). I'm going to have to look into this; either it may not be enabled for Google domains yet, or, it may have to be turned on, something I just found out with Google Maps (which was turned off in my Apps, so I couldn't access it until I turned it on).
I'll take a look, and if I find something, I'll post back.

Okay, here is what I found for Google Apps for Domain Users.
For Google Now On Tap to work, the Web History service must be turned on in your Google Apps Domain. However, finding this is a real pain. Here is what to do:
The problem is the "x" to remove the filter is all the way on the right (in chrome).
1. Log In to your Google Apps admin control panel
2. At the bottom of your dashboard click on "More Controls", then "Apps"
3. Click "Additional Google Services"
4. Remove the Filter "Top Featured Services" by clicking on the "x" on the upper right side.
5. Scroll to the bottom and find Web History
6. Click the "On" Button
a. Select for all users; or
b. If you have various organizational units select which organizational unit
I am told this may take a bit to trickle down to one's phone (sometimes up to 24 hours to all users in the domain). I have made the change myself, but have not been able to turn Now On Tap on yet. However, others have reported this as what does the trick.
If I had not found this through a Google community thread, I'd have no idea how to do it. It's certainly convoluted and the admin control panel doesn't make it easy to find, nor would I have had any idea that this was the fix. I'll update everyone with my results once I've had time to see if the change takes effect.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: If you do not have the following setting enabled on your phone, you cannot turn on Now On Tap:
Settings->Search & Now->Accounts & Privacy->Google Activity Controls->Web & App Activity must be set to ON.
How to Remove FRP Lock From Android Device ?
The FRP feature is always enabled on your device as long as you have an active Google account. To disable FRP, you must remove your Google account.
To remove your Google account, follow these steps:
1 : From any Home screen, touch Apps > Settings.
2 : Touch Accounts > Google.
3 : Touch your Google account, and then touch MORE > Remove account.
Important: If you are sending your device in for service, selling your device, or giving it away, it is very important that you remove your Google account and reset your device.

How do you get around it if you bought a refurbished android moto XT1650-02 on FB and they didn't do what they should have done here in this post?

Have a look at my posts on this subject.
Currently I'm looking into whether I can side load some code via a FAT32 formatted SD card, and if possible, I need to locate where the flag is stored which sets this FRP. Now this could be stored on a rom chip of sorts and at this stage I dont want to break open the device to desolder chips, so this blog could be useful at giving clues into what needs to be looked at. Although the device is a Blink Mini camera, the technique can be applied on other devices, like smart phones.
Blink Mini RE, Part 3 -- Staring into the eye of the binary
If we stare at a binary for long enough, we will intimidate it into giving us its little secrets
astrid.tech
Ideally, I'd have a working device, dump the rom contents, then trigger the FRP and then dump the roms again to compare whats been changed, which would hilight areas for further investigation and maybe even the bit flag in question.
The other area of interest currently is Wireshark with the USB packet sniffer. Lenovo's/Motorola's Rescue and Smart Assist program aka LRMA can interrogate the device via a USB cable and detect the firmware. LRMA also suggests enabling the Developer mode/USB debugging which is enabled by clicking the build number seven times in the Google Android settings. So the question is can LRMA detect the FRP has been set? If it can, Ghidra https://ghidra-sre.org/ can be used to detect the FRP bit flag. I say bit Flag, it could be multiple bit flags in a variety of locations. Never under estimate your enemy.
I've used the Emergency Contact select a photo trick, to gain access to all apps, where I've gone straight for the Settings and Build number, tapped it 7 times as per LRMA's instructions but its not unhidden the developer mode and USB debugging options. This could be disabled once FRP is triggered, but its why I say it could be more than one bit flag which is set. Like you see with UEFI bios on some pc motherboards, there could actually be a two or more locations which could be used.
Like I said earlier, having a working device, dumping roms and then triggering FRP would be ideal, but when you dont have any money, it forces you to use your brain as you can't just step out and buy a new device mirrored in every way.
At this stage I dont know if this FRP flag can be undone. It might be like these RaspberryPi One Time Programmable switches as seen here, but I have been able to toggle some of those as well! https://github.com/raspberrypi/docu...asciidoc/computers/raspberry-pi/otp-bits.adoc
I've so far been unsuccessful in finding out if there is an equivalent of vcgencmd otp_dump for Android phones as this could be another way I might be able to find the FRP flag without having to dump the roms.
This is all new to me so I might be looking in the wrong area's as I'm just an unqualified out of work for decades boring old penniless windows programmer so I'm learning as I go along. But you might find what I've put is useful if you fancy a Thanksgiving, Xmas & New Year challenge for a change.
