Hey there fellas! I recently purchased an international Galaxy Note 8 to use on AT&T here in the U.S. Everything appears to work fine except the speed of my network. Normally in this area I would be getting LTE speeds around 30-40 up and down. With the Note 8 is displays H+ (which I understand to be LTE, but I may be wrong) and I get around 5-7 down and often less than 1mbps up. Some have suggested setting the preferred network time to LTE/UMTS auto (PRL) which was already selected on my device. Is there anything else I can do to get the proper speeds? Thanks!

On all of my international versions H+ was 3G and 4G was LTE. Depending on the area with 4G I would get 20 - 50 megs down on AT&T. On my 950U1 my settings under #*#*4636*#*# I have TD-SCDMA/CDMA/UMTS selected by default and mine shows LTE and depending on the area up to 100 megs down.
H+ is 3G, or 3.5G for some carriers

Ah, that would explain why my speeds are so slow. Thank you for clearing that up. I attempted to select TD-SCDMA/CDMA/UMTS as my preferred network mode but for whatever reason it will not apply. When I reopen that settings menu it goes back to whatever option was selected prior to that. Do you think it could have something to do with the selected APN? I have ATT Phone as my current APN, but at the store they were trying to use ATT Nextgenphone, which didn't work.

I would do all I could to get the Nextgenphone APN working. It is what I used on all my international phones.
Took the Note 8 into the AT&T store today and swapped out the sim card without any luck. As usual they couldn't provide any help beyond that. I also I can't select TD-SCDMA/CDMA/UMTS as my preferred network type for some reason. I contacted the person I bought the phone from and they claimed they used it on Verizon's LTE network without an issue. Very strange.

Would you mind sharing what your CSC on your Note 8 is? I might end up flashing whatever firmware your phone is using, as mine is currently running a firmware for French phones. Not sure if thats the issue, but its possible.

When your look for the firmware look for 950U1 for AT&T. I would look around for a thread on flashing other regions first just to be safe.

I may be totally off here, but wouldn't that be an issue as the AT&T variant uses a Snapdragon SoC, while my device uses Exynos? Another concern for me would the ability to root as well, which is one of the reasons I decided not to buy an AT&T branded phone. Thanks for your help so far man, I appreciate it!

You are right. There is no AT&T firmware for your phone. Unless they changed something with the Note8 you should still be able to get 4G. I did with my international Note4, Note5, and Xperia Z5 Premium models. My son is using the Note5 with an Exynos processor and gets 4G speeds comparable to LTE speeds in the area.
Had this problem as well way back when I first got my 950F.
There are solutions. But you would need one of 2 things.
1. Get At&t to add your IMEI# TO their database so that they can provision your phone correctly.
2. Get another At&t branded phone's IMEI# that is LTE COMPATIBLE. and call them to provision you phone with that #.
My phone is getting full LTE speeds and VOLTE.
But I had them put in the IMEI# of my older Note 5!( which my wife is currently using)...
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I called ATT and gave them your suggestion and they claimed that it would not work. They said provisioning my new phone with an IMEI of a different phone would be temporary up to 2-3 weeks. Have you encountered this issue? I'm assuming not, so I'm curious as to how long you've had this fixed. Thanks again man

Hey there, I just got an S4 Active hooked up with T-Mobile's $30 plan. There's really sparse information on the S4 Active, and even less for people who are using T-Mobile on the S4 Active.
My problem is I'm only getting EDGE. I've searched the forums and found a couple of people who say they plugged in their SIM and it worked flawlessly. Is there anything I need to do? Open up AWS? I've tried using default APN, calling T-Mobile and having them give me the information, and using APNs I've found online, but I still get EDGE.
It'd would be a shame to have such a nice phone and only be able to use EDGE.
Edit: I've also tried enabling AWS using this guide [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291589], first it says "USSD Code running", then I get an error saying "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."

a lot of people are useless when it comes to answering your very question. the eponymous: how can i git tmobile 4g lte on at&t s4 active? simple really. in fact if it weren't for raydi07 talkin about the service menu i would've been stuck on edge and returned my s4 active. Raydi07 is better than geohot
here's how you get 4g LTE to work.
google search: "How to Enable T-Mobile HSPA+ AWS Bands on AT&T Galaxy S4"
the part where it says: Step 2. Dial “*#7284#” on your dialer. Use *#0808# instead
follow everything else by the book.
you'd think "durr this method only flashes hspa+ bands durr" no. I get 4G LTE on my at&t s4 active. sometimes it just says 4G tho when im out in the boonies like where the other useless people are

Thank you so much! *#0808# Worked perfectly. I followed the guide closely, and I now get 4G. Could I ask what you have your *#2263# set on and your *#*#4636#*#* data preference?
yeah boy
I got my 2263 set to lte/wcdma dunno about the other thing but I never been dropped to 2g or 3g always stayed on 4g with the occasional 4g lte! I don't want automatic cuz maybe it'll save some battery so it doesn't scan for signal all day. If rather 4g or not have any data at all

Yes Once you Flash AWS Bands for T-Mobile your phone is full flashed T-Mobile Phone that works on full HSPA+ 3G and LTE as long as APN is right.

4G LTE or possibly HSPA+ will not work on your international version S4 Active I would recommend to go to AT&T Store and buy full paid or eBay or swappa.com have some AT&T S4 Active unlocked that will work on AT&T and T-Mobile LTE
Also i m not sure if you need s4 active then s4 because not that much of protraction and you are giving up on better screen and Camera MP
If it was up to me I would stay with regular s4 but that's just my own opinion
no usb storage
so im still new at doing things like this and i attempted to figure out how to do this but wasn't able to wich is no big deal but now when i conect my phone to my pc the storage doesn't show up not sure if this is what caused it or not but if anyone could help that would be great btw sorry if im posting this in the wrong place im also new to xda
SGS4 Active No HPFS
I have followed every step, but I still haven't seen the changes. I get no errors, the QPST programs says completed and my phone reboots. I've done this several times and still no change. Has anybody had luck doing this with an S4 Active(i537) The QCN I found just said s4, i337, is there one for the active?
i537 qpst no phone
First, please forgive me as I am a novice at best,
My wife bought 2 unlocked i537 for us for Christmas off of ebay from different sellers. We are currently with T-mobile and notice that the 4g seemed to drop in and out. Upon reading the "[GUIDE] Using I537 on T-Mobile and other AWS Networks", I successfully got one phone to work, however I have been trying for a week, almost 2 weeks to get the other one to work with no success. I've tried numerous drivers, pc, cable etc... I've compared the settings on the phones *#0808#, *#2264#, *#0011# *#*#4636#*#* and any of the others I've found. The ports show up in device manager without any issues.
Android version 4.2.2
Kernel 3.4.0-784654 [email protected]#1
Build JDQ39.I537UCUAMF3
SELinux status Permissive
My question(s) are:
1. Is there a way to get qpst to recognize the com port without coming back with "no phone"
2. Is there another tool or software I could use to do the AWS flash?
3. If none of the above, Would it be possible or even correct to copy something from the working phone to the non-working phone? of course without damaging the IMEI/ESN...
Instructions are helpful as I am new to this, but very interested in learning.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!!
UPDATE!!!!!!!
I did a factory reset while plugged into the usb and qpst picked it up upon rebooting. I don't however find this as a solution, but Now I have the AWS enabled.
also have s4 active on tmobile
I have a similar problem. I just got my gs4 active , and while I get 4g service, most of the time I just don't get data at all. I already rooted and enabled hspa from a guide off "high on adroid" but the problem persists. I'm determined this is a at&t locking there bandwidth issue but I don't know what else to do in order to free my phone. Any advice would be appreciated. .

He does not need an AT&T modem flashed on his device. That would most likely result in a brick.
OP: Try dialing *#2263# and make sure automatic is selected. Also go into setting, mobile networks and set it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA

Ok you need to give ATT the IMEI number from one of their LTE android devices. Just go to the store to get one from one of the demo devices. Then your account will be provisioned for LTE.

The guy above is correct, you need at&t to register your imei into their network to access their LTE.... They should do it for you no problem, just give them a call....however I wouldn't be surprised if they don't! If he registers his T-Mobile S5 on AT&T he will still have problems. AT&T won't recognize the T-Mobile IMEI number, and therefore it will list as a GSM device.
He needs to find an IMEI number of one of AT&T's LTE android devices. Once he has called AT&T CS and have had them provision his account for LTE, then he can just pop in his AT&T sim card to his T-Mobile S5. He'll get LTE then.

Thanks for everyone's help. I am good to go.
I took a SIM from another LTE device. I think it does need to be registered as a IMEI from an ATT device and that was the problem.

Now that you are getting AT&T LTE on the T-Mobile variant, can you please comment on LTE signal strength? This is a deal breaker for me. When I had the TMO Note 3 on AT&T, LTE reception sucked. If you can compare it with an AT&T branded phone, that would be great.
Another person using the G900T. Congrats
My experience is that coverage is just as good if not better. Same radio, same antenna, I wouldn't expect it to be any different?
The TMO GS5 has all the needed ATT LTE Bands no need for a radio flash, I'm using one on ATT now, have gotten LTE from day 1, as stated only requirement is the sim has to be originally activated on a LTE ATT device and that the APN is set properly.
What kind of speed is everyone getting with the tmo s5 on att network? I have an att s5 next to a tmo s5 and att s5 is getting 50mbps vs tmo at 20mbps. I am wondering if I needed to configure something on the tmo devices?

I would also like to do this, but I just want to clarify something. I just bought an AT&T S5. Brand new, unopened, still in the box. I want to swap it for a T-Mobile S5, as the bootloader is unlocked. If I keep the AT&T SIM card before I sell it, and put it into the new Tmo S5, will I have any foreseeable issues? Will it work just like that, or will I need to retrieve something from my S5 before I swap it?
Thanks.
EDIT: I should clarify that the device is unactivated, and when I do activate it, I will be porting my existing number from Verizon.
I've been searching far and wide.. Each theory to understand the failures that's inside. DUN DUN
So, anyways I have an AT&T unlocked and currently using it for TMOBILE.
I've read things from build.props changes to flashing band radios such as .33 to try to obtain 4gLTE.
Also changing APN settings. Went through t-mobile services at least 5 times through live chat and calling.
Went through AT&T live chat. EVEN WENT AS FAR TO CONTACT SAMSUNG.
Every attempt failed to help me achieve 4gLTE for Tmobile using the unlocked AT&T s5.
People said they are able to use their AT&T phones and have LTE for Tmobile.
But on the other hand people said it is not possible because the 2 carriers use different bands or radio towers or whatever.
So, can someone please tell me is there a solution to having and keeping LTE for T-mobile using an unlocked AT&T phone. It's been about 3 days of search after work and this search for the philosopher stone is tiring.

If your GF has a TMO S5 G900T phone its modem has all the LTE bands used by TMO. My S5 G900A and yours do not have ALL the TMO bands. But mine works just fine on TMO LTE. You need to check your baseband and android version. The last and best is G900AUCU2AOA1 and 4.4.4. If you don't have this, you must get the OTA update on your S5.
Search the XDA threads started by muniz_ri on how to root a G900A.

Stilll, I cant recieve LTE. Checked my apn settings and they are fine. Changed my build.prop to kltetmo (since it said att). Congrats on getting OA1 and 4.4.4 installed...no small task.
When you say "Nothing..." is working, what specifically do you mean?

If your phone:
1. Has G900AUCU2AOA1 and AT&T 4.4.4 installed and your Network Mode is set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto; and
2. your GF's G900T phone sitting next to yours shows About>Status Network = T-Mobile with Mobile network type= LTE and yours does not; then
Your AT&T modem does not connect to the TMO LTE channels used in the area. OR there is something broken in hardware or software on your phone.
Sorry, but have little more to offer because of my limited toolset. Perhaps others can help.
I began with totally stock ATT G900A and moved to TMO last October in Nor Cal. Had LTE from the get go, no problems other than poor coverage compared to AT&T at my home. Rooted in early February and installed Safestrap. Then ran stock AT&T with LTE until I upgraded modem, kernel, et al to OA1 and 4.4.4 last week with muniz_ri threads. Then installed Alliance B4 and now have faster phone with better reception and wi-fi calling! LTE solid the whole way where I had coverage.
Best wishes!

Yeah my GF had to switch in her phone and got an unlocked AT&T phone and she has LTE. This is sad, maybe I can try and go trade my phone for another at a local phone store.

Struggling with the same issue. Bought S5 G900A locked to AT&T a couple days ago. So I rooted, updated to OC4, bought unlock code for $2 on ebay and inserted TMO's SIM - everything works but no 4G LTE (only 4G and it's definitely slow HSPA speeds) no matter what secret code or APN settings I use. I don't have "network mode type" or something like that in menu. BTW, in the same areas (SF, Berkeley, Sacramento) LG G4 D850 att model on same TMO's SIM showed 4G LTE all the time...
Open up the phone dialer and enter
*#*#4636#*#*
When you enter that it should bring you to a device service menu.
Check the preferred network settings there.
Make sure it is on one of the lte auto modes
Try that... maybe change it and see if it helps...
There is also some settings there in the menu on band selection I believe
Also.... it could be a problem with the tmobile Sim card... if the Sim card is not for lte then lte won't work.. maybe try a new Sim at tmobile if all else fails

SO I picked up a 256GB emperor edition from Korea. It is Confirmed to have every single LTE band that AT&T uses. I put my sim in and only get 3G not 4G. Called at&t and they said they need to re-appropriate the IMEI for the USA as it comes up as a 2g/3g phone because the SKoren SK telecom IMEI assigned to the phone is different in the USA. IS that True? Anyone know how and if I can get the Phone to work on 4G LTE on at&t or do I have to hope they get it right? I paid $1400 for this phone I don't want to use a 64GB version I have been waiting to have 500+ GB on a phone for so long.. Any TIps? Hints? Recommendations?
EDIT: for those reading this thread for the first time. As of 10/9/17 I was able to get good LTE speeds as well as WIFI calling and Video Calling on my N950N note 8 Korean Exynos model. In a nutshell here is what I did to make it work.
Flash nemesis n950F rom to my phone.
Flash AT&T CSC to the phone using the CSC tool and you do have to modify one line (user RED FLAME) has this in the CSC thread.
Call at&t and give them the IMEI of a VOLTE wifi calling/video calling capable cellphone (I used my wifes S8+ - and yes you can DOUBLE USE IMEI on the same account)
I also did one other thing - Check page 14 for that information.
I just wanted to give a synopsis of this thread so new N950N and at&t owners don't feel like they are wasting their time searching XDA and google. I only wish other people did this when their problem is solved so people can easily see they are not in the wrong place and don't have to read tons of pages of stuff.

Hi.
There is a thread somewhere here they were talking about similar problems.
What you where told is essentially correct. Though they also said that they needed a new sim card, too.
Hope this helps. Still waiting for my Note 8.
Too bad those devices do not have the CDMA bands...
I have the same model and same problem but with softbank, though softbank has been less helpful.. i read someone flashing a different csc (if its the right one) will "unblock" the phone? Would any exymos model csc work?
My roaming menu is also greyed out... not sure if that is related.
I think you just need to give them the IMEI and have them set it up for LTE in their system, since they don't by default allow LTE on bring your own devices.
Did you change the apn? I have the same phone on tmobile and i changed the apn to the tmobile apn and i have no problems with the phone.

Just a quick comment - I think you mis-spoke. ATT Does allow LTE on Bring your own devices. I have been using G955F variants for the last 4 years and never had to do anything other than put the SIM card in for it to work. HOwever, LTE Enhanced Services are not available on Bring your own Devices. This includes HD Calling, Wifi Calling and Video Calling. BUT, LTE will work.
I don't know anything about the Korean Model so I hope the OP is able to get things straightened out - but other variants have always worked on ATT - including TMOBILE PHONES and international variants as well.

That's probably what I meant. I haven't been an AT&T customer for many years, and have been with T-mobile for all my smart phone career, and they don't require any special setup on their end for VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, etc as I can confirm with my Korean Note 8. After somewhat jankily switching CSCs with a modified script that was originally made for S8 and 8+ phones I definitely have VoLTE and probably have Wi-Fi calling working without any communication to T-mobile.
Waiting on at&t now.. to see what happens.. SPEC for SPEC this phone is exactly the same as an at&t phone. It has every single band, not missing a single one. If you put the specs side by side there is ZERO difference. I changed the APN - there are 3 at&t choices. One gives me 3G the other 2 do not work. SO waiting on at&t to re-appropriate the IMEI to register as a note 8 on their network. I had not idea it was going to be this much of a pain in the arse. I was told by a few sellers, pop in your sim and your good to go. I did need a new sim since my note 4 sim did not fit in the note 8, so They gave me a new sim. I put the sim (using an adapter) back into my Note 4 until they change over the IMEI and the new sim works just fine on the note 4 - all my video calling, wifi calling and tethering work fine. So hoping I do not need to return this phone and use a 64GB model. I wish samsung would just release the 256 here on at&t like apple is doing with the iphone X. I would pay $1200 for it no problem. (and since the iphone X is $1149 with 256gb - I am sure samsung would do $999 or $1099 to undercut apple. But Samsung is going to epic fail and never give the US customers what they want.
Hi there, I would also like to have the Emperor's edition, and use it in Canada (Bell) and USA (T-Mobile or AT&T). Is N950N the correct model number for this edition? Does it come with dual sim? Thanks! So far I found an Ebay seller from Hong Kong with F950FD which looks to be 256GB Duos - I'm wondering what the difference is with N950N and whether I will have an issue with region lock?
Thanks for any comments...

No, I was using it on a HTC10 and previously on a Note 4...
Totally DIsappointed... No way I am keeping this $1300 phone for how crappy it is on At&T.
They Finally Updated the IMEI so that is shows up as a next gen smartphone on at&t network and I get an LTE logo. I set my own ACCESS POINT as well as used all 3 that showed up automatically. ATT Phone, ATT NEXTGENPHONE and ATT UTDATA (Nextgen) + I did what was recommended on att.com for bringing over a phone that might not get the access point which was the same settings as ATT Phone - all of them gave me LTE on my bar and showed AT&T as the network. Every single LTE Band on this phone is the same as the official ATT note 8. Yet on my speed test I couldn't get better than 4MB/s down and 1.56MB/s up, my note 4 (pop the sim card back in there) even with 1 Bar on my phone I get 42MB/s download and like 10MB/s Upload.
IT is too late to call at&t tonight but I am extremely disappointed. I have wanted a phone with 256GB of memory for like 2 years now, and to have MicroSD expansion for just MUSIC (NOTHING ELSE).
If At&t can't get this note 8 to perform exactly like a at&t version would, then I either going back to my Note 4 or Perhaps the US Samsung unlocked version (which I already have but is not opened as I hoped to sell it and make a few hundred on it to make up for the $1300 I spent on this Emperor Edition.
Any advice?
Anyone want to buy it.. I paid $1299.99 Shipped from NK. Instead of returning it - if anyone wants to buy it, id do the same thing $1299.99 shipped anywhere in US or Canada. Perhaps it will work better on another network...

tl;dr - Under Settings->Connections->More Settings there's an option titled Reset Network Settings and, i had to use that on my Korean, Note Fan Edition to get LTE working.
more detail on how i got VoLTE and HD Voice working.... i grabbed an ATT (Snapdragon) S8+ CSC and manually applied to the FE. To get HDVoice and VoLTE working, i called ATT and told them i was going to use my (no-longer used/retired) ATT Samsung S7Active with my cell number. this step was a must to get VoLTE working. once they associated S7Active IMEI with my cell number, i rebooted the Note FE and VoLTE was active. i occasionally receive calls and the HD Voice icon appears on the dialer screen; i assume the other person is calling me via Wifi when i see the icon. Video calling and Wifi calling haven't worked for me on none of my international devices. once i got my UK note 8, i applied the same CSC content (after rooting my device), i inserted the same ATT sim used in the Note FE, reset network settings and VoLTE and HD Voice (when receiving calls) still works.
I don't know about the Korean model, but here is how you get Volte on ATT on the Note 8 F model. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73851525&postcount=308 After you slightly modify the zip and flash this, you must call ATT and give the friendly customer service person the IMEI of a phone purchased from ATT directly that is roughly equivalent and had Volte and wifi calling features. I used an old S7. ATT will NOT accept an IMEI of any phone not sold by ATT. Once they put it into their system, reboot your Note 8 and whala - wifi calling and Volte work perfectly.

Kind of a NOOB when it comes to all this. I haven't flashed or done any phone hacking in a few years (my s4 was the last phone I really played with).
SO I downloaded the CSC Selection V1.2.1 on Android Filehost
I honestly do not know what to do from here.
Thanks.

All N960U and N960U1 devices are EXACTLY the same. The only difference between the devices is software.
Flash the software for the carrier your running including the Userdata for you Note 9. It should work for all features especially on T-Mobile. T-Movile fully allows unlocked devices on their network whereas Verizon doesn't. I'm pretty sure at&t is like Verizon through when it comes to unlocked devices, and they own cricket so that rule probably trickles down to them as well.
You can get all carrier version of software for your Note 9 on samfirm or sammobile

But my question would be would my phone latch on to tmobile towers using tmobile firmware better than my current state using verizon firmware I'm excluding wifi calling and volte just trying to determine if I would have a difference in service availability picking up towers and holding them with stronger lte signal or if it's just poor coverage both ways and will be no different than you for your advice as well

You will never know until you try it, so why not try it and find out? Make it an SM-N960U1. Debloated and ready to go with any sim you install. Flash the unbranded firmware that can work on any of the US providers. That's what I have, and when I loaded a T-Mobile sim, I got VoLTE and wifi calling. I've run a lot of custom firmwares in the past, but this is the best phone and firmware combo I've ever had. And it's pure stock.
Also, this stock One UI with dark mode is very slick. VERY! No Substratum, no themes, no fuss. Just clean and black.

Lots of people have reported better or worse quality service, all other things equal except for firmware/software: different radios enabled/disabled; different optimizations. I just read another thread where someone got better tmobile reception at his house after flashing tmobile software over US unlocked software. There are more variables than just the carrier side of things.

Thankyou then that kinda answers my question that although phones are equal between verizon version and unlocked internally and firmware being the difference that using a tmobile phone with their firmware I'd stand the best chance of service and since my area uses extended range area I would probably have a better experience than on my note 9 verizon...thankyou again

Yes. I think it may make no difference at all, or it might (much to gain, but nothing to lose), but most of the evidence in these forums, when it comes to connection quality, is extremely variable and anecdotal. Nobody can know an answer to this kind of question, unless they test it out for themselves. Good luck!
