Hi all, I was wondering since we have Safestrap, https://www.xda-developers.com/snapdragon-samsung-galaxy-s8-galaxy-note-8-safestrap-recovery/ https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/development/recovery-locked-nougat-7-1-1-safestrap-t3772765 , something like TWRP but for locked bootloaders and we have an Oreo OTA https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/how-to-install-android-oreo-snapdragon-t3716281 shouldnt it be possible to have a custom Oreo Rom for the N950U?
Shouldnt we able to abstract the bootloader need for Oreo form the zip, as well as the system, apps etc and have a full running and rooted Oreo rom that has the proper bootloader to boot. Also we could import safestrap in the Rom so if things go bad we can always go back to a previous backup without worrying about starting ALL THE WAY OVER TO ROOTING....and if we create debrick imgs and or fiehouse for the N950u if we accidentally hard brick the phone cant we just come back no problem. I've been thinking aobut this for some times even reached out to a few devs. Any input?

I've the Problem that I havent't TWRP-Recovery and SuperSu after Updating to OOS 4.1.1 and Android 7.1.1.
Do someone know if i had to flash TWRP with qiping all Data? Or is there a Way to Flash TWRP and SuperSu without wiping? =(
Sorry I'm new to Android and started with the oneplus 3t. So i didn't know that i hadn't to update the Phone.
Or is the best opinion for me to choose a custom rom? But there are so much, i don't know what to choose.

Neither TWRP nor SuperSU will wipe anything.
It's totally up to you whether you need a custom ROM or not. If you want features like switching tracks just with your volume keys, you'll totally need a custom ROM since stock ones don't provide this feature. But this is just one example of many.

Hm okay, cause when I got my one plus I flashed trwp and had to wipe everything, cause of the encryption or something like that.
I'll try my best today evening, hopefully nothing will go wrong :-O
What do I need to center the clock?
I'll flash trwp and supersu and anything to center the clock today evening.
Don't know if I need a custom rom, are there reason for a custom rom?

I never had to wipe anything. I just wipe the phone when I want to remove the encryption.
EDIT: regular security patches is one big reason for me to install a custom ROM.

But why did the update delete trwp and supersu?
I was happy with OOS but missed the future of centering the clock.
May I ask which custom rom you use?
Updates remove SuperSU because they essentially flash over all non-user partitions (everything except /data, where your files, settings and user apps are stored). To root the OS, SuperSU installs its files in the /boot partition, which gets overwritten during ROM flashes. Root gets deleted any time you flash any mod (including most custom ROMs, since they also replace /boot). The only exception to this is if you flash a custom ROM that comes pre-rooted.
TWRP does not get deleted immediately during flashing, but rather when you first boot up afterwards. OOS will attempt to replace any custom recovery with the stock recovery when it first boots up after updating. You can get around this by either flashing TWRP again, or rooting immediately after flashing a ROM update, before you reboot (flash ROM, wipe cache/delvik, flash root, reboot). Most custom ROMs will not replace your custom recovery.
There's a few threads containing OPSystemUI.apk mods in the Themes, Apps and Mod section, though most of them also contain a bunch of other graphical modifications. If you only want to center your clock and nothing else, it can be achieved by modding OPSystemUI.apk yourself, though there is a bit of a learning curve to it.

You are mixing things up a bit but don't worry, I'll explain.
You need to unlock the bootloader first, and that always wipes your data for security reasons. So if your phone is stolen, the thief won't be able to access your data by installing TWRP or a custom rom. After unlocking you install TWRP (custom recovery), and use it to flash stuff. (roms, mods, etc)
After that you only lose data if you (or a rom) mess things up, and your data becomes unaccessible, or you relock your bootloader for whatever reason. That's why you should always backup to a computer before doing major flashing/upgrades, etc.
If you upgrade the rom you'll lose root and/or TWRP, but you can flash it again as explained by others.

I have a carrier unlocked Australian N950F Exynos Note 8 running 7.1.1 with OEM Unlock showing in developer settings (took a week or so). My phone has downloaded but not yet installed this OTA:
N950FXXU3CRC7/N950FOLN3CRC7/N950FXXU3CRC7 (1021.03MB)
I think it'll be Oreo but I haven't checked which exact version.
I have not installed TWRP or rooted this phone yet but I'd like to do so. I'd also like to move to Oreo before I proceed as my battery life could be better.
What is the best way to proceed? I've read through some long threads and ended up confused about exactly what's the best procedure.
Is some kind or decryption required at some point? Will I lose the data currently on my phone?
I haven't installed the OTA update yet.

CRC7 is Oreo, 8.0 which is currently the latest for Note8 (8.1 may be a long while out if we even get it officially).
The process for rooting Oreo is basically the same as Nougat, for Oreo just be sure you are using the updated TWRP that fixes the data mount issue.
If you root Nougat first, you won't be able to update OTA so you'll then need to install a custom rom to get Oreo.
You can update to Oreo via OTA first & your data will be intact but regardless if Oreo or Nougat, after installing TWRP you'll need to wipe data to remove encryption. So yes, you will loose data. You won't loose internal or external storage unless you choose to format them but it's a good idea to make a backup of them just in case.
As for data, you'll need to use smart switch, helium, etc if you want to back it up. I have no experience with backing up data without root so I'm not sure what methods work best.
It seemed to work. I restored all my contacts, apps etc in Oreo. When I went to restart the phone and enter TWRP to flash magisk I get a message about only official binaries are allowed. Now the phone won't even boot. I'm guessing I now need to re-flash official firmware with odin just to get my phone working? Another week for OEM unlock? I waited this long because I thought the problem was resolved
Unfortunately if you have the OEM lock issue, that will never go away. So yes, you have to flash official firmware to boot again. If you were on Oreo, you can try flashing Nougat to see if you might get lucky & get OEM unlock back.
Since you have the OEM lock issue, remember to always flash the RMM state fix even if you flash a custom rom that has the fix built in. Always flash RMM fix right after flashing a custom rom. If not flashing a custom rom, flash RMM fix before booting to system after you install TWRP.

I'm currently downloading Oreo 8.0 XSA (unbranded Australian rom) to reload my phone and wait another week.
I would like to use the XSA Samsung rom rather than a custom rom. Is OEM Unlock available in Oreo after a week?

I use the method listed in any of the TWRP threads. I've never heard of Samsung Anti Root Removal. By the sound of it on the page it sounds like dm no verity. You need to flash that & RMM state fix. Flash the XSA firmware you want to use. Log into your Samsung account, don't reboot for 168hrs & OEM unlock should appear. Then follow a guide for installing TWRP.
Seeing as there is no actual ROM available to copy to the memory and flash via TWRP how would someone update their firmware / base on this phone if they've unlocked the bootloader, have TWRP installed and are rooted?
I've always had a fall back ROM on my phone i could flash, i think there is a way to use the eRecovery to get back your device to Stock but i've never used it on this phone, nor have i ever had to in the past, this is a complete first for me.
So surprised that this phone didn't get more attention, with a few tweaks it's rapid.
How is everyone getting by without a custom ROM option?
I've been having loads of issues with installing Treble ROMs. Currently I'm on the PRA-LX1's most recent update with EMUI 8, (C432) and have only recently found out that Askuccio's TWRP is around. Previously I've been trying and trying with TWRPs like Haky86's which couldn't have even worked because it's built for EMUI 5, I've tried Pretoriano's for the P10 lite, as well as some other random one which is Chinese. Pretoriano's is always unable to mount my /storage/ or /system/ and therefore I can't wipe or flash anything properly, and the chinese one just placed me in a bootloop after flashing the Treble RR ROM.
I now have the Askuccio TWRP and I need to know before I try again - will I get a bootloop, or get in a mess all over again? I can't back anything up beforehand because of encryption and inability to root before switching to a custom ROM. The last times I've tried I've had to keep booting and messing around until eRecovery manages to reproduce itself from seemingly nothing and then redownloads my system firmware again.
Has anyone had proper success? Do you recommend any ROMs to use? I'd prefer RR, Lineage or Omni but at this point anything is fine. Thanks

I also have the TWRP installed but can't get any further down the line - where is the root? Can't install custom roms, can't get adaptive SD, just got unlocked bootloader and FWP!

Years ago I successfully rooted my Xiaomi Mi 9 (M1902F1G). I don't remember how, I just remember waiting for the Xiaomi approval on my account to unlock the bootloader and that I was extra-careful regarding a non-decreasing integer number not to brick it or something like that. To avoid risking an unwanted unroot, I never updated the system (now at MIUI Global 10.2.14).
Now, for different reasons, I want to update to the last available version and unroot. What's the easiest way of doing it?
My system is currently offering an update to MIUI V11.0.6.0.QFAMIXM | Stable (2.3GB).
Should I just take it? Will device unroot and update or things could go wrong (soft/hard brick)?
I'm willing to follow specific instructions to unroot, and manually flash scripts or ROMs if you think it would be safer (I would like to keep my TWRP recovery).
I just don't know where to look on the internet. Even if you just pointed me to the right thread/forum, I would appreciate it, I cannot find much.

Just flash the latest fastboot image version (select the flash_all_lock.bat or flash_all_lock.sh depending of your OS).
You will lose everything on the phone and you can't keep TWRP installed.
