Hey everyone!
I currently use the xperia z C6602 to 10.1.1.A.1.253 firmware and want to root it to get JB (I have the France version imported here to the US, but never got the update). I also want to root it for other reasons (to get rid of bloatware, etc).
I tried following this method on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287299
but got stuck on the part where it says to point the drivers to the designated folder. When I booted the phone with fastboot, it tried installing drivers on windows, but never gave me the option to select a folder (and installation failed). May I ask how to get past that step?
Or are there any other ways to root my phone? I started a new thread because i think the C6602 might be a bit different from the C6603, just just to be safe. My bootloader is unlockable but i have not yet unlocked it. Fyi, I currently reside in the USA (don't know if that helps)

Thank you! I'm also thinking about flashing to JB (which would remove the root, i think?)
Anyhow, thank you very much, guys.

Then you just re-root it.
I recently received Xperia Z Android 4.4.4(10.5.1.A.0.283) update.
previously I had 4.4.2(10.5.1.A.0.230) rooted using #towelroot.
My question is, Do I need to root my phone after 4.4.4(10.5.1.A.0.283) update ???
If so, Can I still use #towelroot for root it again ?
currently, there is no

CVE-2014-3153 (towelroot exploit) is patched in Sony kernel source and doesn't work any more.
To root, you need to flash a 230 kernel with Flashtool, root then flash back the 283 kernel.

Guys! Try this (read it some where)
1. Flash 4.4.4 tft
2. install supersu, and towelroot then
3. flash only 4.4.2 kernel (don't tick anything in wipe, in exclude list tick everything except kernel).
4.It will boot, then root with towelroot, give it a reboot.
5. u're rooted.
6. Now flash only 4.4.4 kernel back

Yes read before posting.
I and someone else already posted what you have to do.
1. Flash 230 kernel only with Flashtool.
2. Root with towelroot or Easy Root.
3. Flash back kernel from 283 with Flashtool.
Done.

That is for unlocked bootloader @Spock0785
Some cant unlock it so they need to know howto for locked bl
And its also easier of some can post only the .230 kernel to root and also put the kernel of 4.4.4 to flash it back to keep root.

refer this for locked boot loader, it will give you kernels in FTF which can be flashed on locked bootloader.

Hi,
Today I have upgraded my "towelrooted" Xperia Z (C6603) from 10.5.1.A.0.230 to 10.5.1.A.0.283 and guess what? To my surprise, the root remained in place in my phone after this upgrade. This is contrary to all my previous experiences with upgrading firmwares in this phone. How did I do that? Nothing special. I have downloaded (OTA) the 10.5.1.A.0.283 firmware and then I let my phone upgrade itself. That's it.
I don't know if this is a region-specific anomaly but I have an unbranded phone purchased in Germany. I checked the details of this newest firmware in my phone and it is a German generic OTA version, exactly this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/stock-rom-xperia-z-c6603-10-5-1-0-283-t2876005 , so it's not some special build or something like that.
Until now, all firmware upgrades used to wipe out every single root I had but this upgrade didn't, luckily. Anyone here with the same experience?
Updating via OTA usually doesn't remove root as long as the OTA doesn't fail.
This is because an OTA doesn't format /system, rather it just replaces the necessary files.

Can I use latest version of flashtool or do I have to take flashtool-version 0.9.13?
(because in the flashtool-thread it says: "WARNING : Since Xperia Z, sony added a new set of files I called bootbundle. Those files can be bundled from 0.9.13 and can be flashed from 0.9.13 only. To all those flashing devices from Z edition to all after Z, it is highly advised to use 0.9.13 and to be sure FTF you flash contain the bootbundle set. I've been reported of hard bricks because of missing such set of files from bundles.)

Use the latest version. That statement means all versions of Flashtool including and after 0.9.13.
Since I wrote that post, I wrote a guide on rooting 10.5.1.A.0.283. Find it here.

It is extremely wise to search before posting. Please go to this link to accomplish your objective as stated in the OP.
Ive recently bought a Sony Xperia Z C6603, it came with 4.2, and updated to 4.3, a month ago I updated to 4.4.4 kitkat, Id like to know how to root it since I had samsung S2 before it and rooted it, and there are some apps I really miss with root. The problem is that video tutorials and written ones talk about 4.2, so is it the same with kitkat? Also I really like the stock sony look so I dont want to flash a new rom or anything, if its the same, a good video tutorial with links would be great, sorry Im pretty noob with android rooting.
How to root 10.5.1.A.0.283 / 10.5.1.A.0.292
If you have trouble with any of the steps, then post in the thread and I'll try to assist.

Yes. That's why I linked you to it!
It's the only way to root 4.4.4 without unlocking your bootloader.

Hey greatly thanks. If I do it wrong or if any wrong thing happened, what possible damages can cause? I want my mobile rooted for some apps and I am totally newbie to how to root.
As long as you follow the guide, nothing bad should happen. At worst you might have to reflash stock firmware, but that's very unlikely.
