manual brightness - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Is that true that when setting brightness to a manual value it always changes up to an automatic value ?

Yes, that true but I think it hapennes when you enable eye protection function almost every time. But I'm not sure.

Can someone confirm that ?

Yes i can confirm this, faceunlock is active.

If you have it set to automatic off then it works just like any other android phone and stays at whatever you have set it too... It just depends on what settings you have on as some may need the automatic brightness to work

Brightness resets to automatic upon phone restart. If you prefer manual, you'll need to untick the automatic box when you restart the phone.

That's true - I just checked it, but is it the only one situation, when it switch to auto mode?

My auto brightness is unchecked but randomly is activated without any intervention on my part. Annoying!

screen wakes during call

Sometimes screen wakes during call for a second and it repeating that, but a have the phone close to my ear. (I'm using stock (root) firmware). What do you think it's a problem? (if i test promiximity sensor in hide menu-"promiximity wakelock" for a longer time all is OK)
Try with another rom.

The stock firmware for our phone has some problems with the proximity sensor. Iodak's kernel and p880-sources built ROMs have a fix for it included. Not sure about CM based ones, but I guess they'll work fine too! So yeah, that about anything but stock you could try
Greetings from my Nexus 7 FHD!
If another rom doesn't help, there could be some dust or something else on the sensors way... I had similar problems with HTC Desire HD, which was resolved with some intense sensor cleaning... The rom change is easier to complete though, as the sensor is not in visible place
Problem with sensor is rare, so i think, The same as mcgangsta is easier to change Rom

proximity is kernel related not rom

[Q] Launching Chrome dims display?

Any idea whats going on? I have auto brightness turned off, but whenever I launch Chrome, the display noticeably dims. I cant find any display setting that would explain this.
Google shows that there is some setting on Galaxy phones that effects this, Settings > display > auto adjust screen tone, but the P8lite does not have this option
Any ideas?
Come on, this is unbelievable, NO ONE has seen this? People have rooted the phone and instslled custom recoveries, but no one sees when you run chrome, the display dims?
I saw this few daya ago.. But still no idea how to solve it, working on it.

How to make screen light up when sms delivers

As it is written above. I have a problem and don't know how to solve it. When sms arrives screen light stays off even if it is checked in notifications sound and screen light up. Anyone have same problem and how to solve it?
Try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.nullgrad.glimpse
Allows you to set which apps turn your screen on.
It's overkill a little, but has worked well for me.
Thanks works great. But isn't fullish that we need spec app for that option?....
I written to support they do not no how to solve it

Android does not have this option, so you get it either via app or via manufacturer skin. As Nokia has stock Android, there's no such option. Android never had it.

Auto brightness issue

Has anyone noticed an issue with the auto brightness of the note 8 ? It seems it doesn't get adjusted efficiently! Sometimes it's too dim and sometimes too bright, that's so disturbing
It's really funny, it worked after I installed an application called lux lite, that's unbelievable.. I need to install a third party application on a 1000$ cellphone to get such a basic function working. Thanks Samsung !

I believe you are wrong about this. The auto brightness is adaptable, in the sense that you can set it manually wherever you want in different comditions and it will learn your preferences and interpolate. I actually find it very flexible.

I find that is not doing such a hot job at learning my preferences. I keep having to manually adjust because my phone thinks it knows what I want. It's annoying.

do you mean that it has a new functionality that has not been in old phones? I have the Note 4 and it works like a charm, but the note 8 auto brightness works strangely, when I'm in a room with low brightness the screen light goes so dim that I can barely see anything!
Ive experienced the same thing, I have to do a screen lock for its auto brightness to work correctly
Hi,
(sorry for my English)
Your message was one month ago but I reply just in case some people have the same issue.
You have to call samsung about your issue. I have done that there are 2 months ago and Samsung are going to change the settings only if they have lot of complaint about this weird behaviour of the note 8, S8 and S8+.
The new settings of the auto brightness is "smart" but often it's more like "lost" than "smart"... :/
I adked to Samsung to give 3 choices for the settings of the auto brightness for the user instead of 2:
1) manually
2) auto "smart"
3) auto "not smart" => so the phone adjust the brightness depending only of the light sensor.
They told me that my proposition can be integrate only if they received lot of complaint.
Seems to come with last update
I can confirm am having the exact issue..
Brightness doesn't seem to auto adjust. Even after a reboot. The issue seems to come during the last update - the update where now we can have video lockscreen and animated AODs.
Hope this is resolved soon.

I don't recall having issues on the last update, but I am on the latest CRG1 now and it's working fine on my N950F.

I ran the sensor tests, and it seems that more than the lux sensor is not responding ...
My heart rate sensor seems to work on a hit-or-miss basis..
SpO2 working fine though.

Try and reset your usage pattern and give it time to learn your usage. You will have to adjust the slider for your preference while its learning. I'm on the latest oreo and have no issues with it.
Reset phone to factory settings..
Issue persists!!

That's strange. My auto brightness worked fine up until the latest update. It is the August update that caused the problem for me.
Actually, providinf an update on the matter.
Some days later, situation came back to square one!
Not working:
Light sensor
Heart Rate sensor
Proximity sensor
Gyro sensor
Magnet sensor
Accelerometer
Just fingerprint sensor seems to be working fine.
I was on a trip in Malaysia and was at a Samsung store. They told me this is a very common issue and easily solved by 'software update' but when I went on to the service centre, they denied me since my phone was bought in different country. Phff
If the next OS update doesn't resolve this then I would recommend that you take your device to a Samsung Service Center
Anyone got their unresponsive device working back again ?

Manual brightness problem

Hi guys, a question: setting the brightness manual, you noticed by chance if entering some Apps like Facebook, Gmail etc the same is lowered and then return to the set value when you leave? Thanks to those who will answer
Nobody knows the problem?
Mines a bit dodgy too. To me seems like it doesnt dim unless i turn it down to about 20%. 20-70 doesnt seem to dim or get brighter.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I notice that the manual set brightness is lowered when I enter the Facebook app for example.

Well if like me you're on c782, good luck getting a fix in the UK. Networks have to verify the updates for my model.. doesnt happen.
I've been having some issues with manual brightness. Sometimes it takes setting the brightness twice (dragging the knob a bit to have it actually change brightness) , and less often automatic brightness will turn itself back on.

Thats exactly what i get.
Auto brightness re-enables on every reboot. Huawei say its normal. I say its a mistake they cant be bothered to fix.

Why is it like this here? I bought it out of contract and now I'm getting aware that since I've put a Vodafone sim in it, I need to wait for their updates. What's the point in buying it sim free then???

Its a deal they have with networks, it auto brands as soon as you add the sim. Only way around it is to install the C432 firmware which is eu but not too sure how good that would be in the UK

No, c781. The firmware release will be long, always as they want to fix the bug.

No, thats not why it takes so long. C432 is getting monthly security patches.

I am new to the Huawei environment, and I noticed this too...my OCD is quite relentless, so I noticed this straight away...I just don't know whether it is a feature for bright background apps...or a glitch...but it is there...so I checked the Auto Brightness box to stop it!
