Ive looked around and havent found anything in the playstore that will do what I am looking for. Is there any app or mod that will let you edit the vibration intensity? System vibrations and app vibrations (text, email, facebook notifications etc).
I set them in the normal phone settings to the lowest possible and its still absurdly strong.... AND LOUD if its on a table. Middle of a work meeting and I get a text and It sounded like a lawn mower... everyone turned and looked at me lolol

Silent mode ?

I've always thought the vibration isn't strong enough- I never feel it when it's in my pocket, but I DO hear it... I also have a standard case on if it's relevant.

I don't know if its just my specific phone but I want it to play the sound and vibrate whenever I get some sort of notification. With the stock messaging it gives me that option and I see the option through Handcent but phone only plays sound. When I go into vibrate mode, only calls vibrates. Nothing else.
Any help? Thanks!
Try reinstalling the app

Try this:
With handcent installed navigate to
Android Settings>Sound and Display>Enable Haptic feedback (make sure it's checked)
below it change vibration intensity to your desire. Once this is done you can then disable haptic feedback if you don't like it but the vibration intensity will be saved for handcent.
i was looking for an app that customized some sms and email notifications.. any out there for email? this seems great for sms

handcent settings>notification settings>vibrate settings>always
vibrate and sound works fine for me in handcent
I forgot to mention that I did have Heptic Feedback off, rumor says it saves battery life.

Handcent lets you customize the vibration pattern also.
Hey guys, sorry if this has already been posted, i know double posts are silly and a waste of time, but the search function isn't working right now and my phone is driving me nuts haha
okay, i just got this captivate, i came from an HTC Desire to this phone, and when i got a message on my desire, it just made the sound and the indicator light came on. now i know the captivate doesn't have an indicator LED, but is there a way to stop this screen from turning on everytime. i use the no lock app and when it turns on in my pocket i start swyping.. hahah
oh, and this battery notifcation thing where it plays my notification sound super loud at 3 in the morning beside my head while i sleep.. can i turn that stupid option off too??
thanks in advance!
For the SMS notifications, I would try installing the app called ""SMS Pop Up".
You can control much more options for SMS notifications that way. But after you download it, make sure you disable the normal SMS notifications under:
SMS app> menu button>settings> notifacation
This is so the phone won't send you two notifications on two different apps. (The SMS Pop Up app isn't really an SMS app itself, but you get what I mean).
As for the battery notification, I would have no idea... Most of the custom roms I've tried have battery full notifications turned off as a default (cos it's pointless and stupid).
Yeah i noticed a lot of roms have it disabled, if your just rooted and dont' do roms does any one know what you do to disable it?
Is it editing a database or something?
For the battery notification, you can put your phone on silent out just turn notification volume all the way down otherwise I don't know, it isn't present in the froyo update
Your welcome
Now you say/press thanks
Teaching manners one person at a time
For SMS notifications I would use NoLED, not sms pop up. For not hearing the full battery notification I would use sound manager to turn off notification sound at the time you desire
Thanks peeps

I come from an iPhone with the hardware silent switch. If this was set, then the only sound would be vibrate. All other sounds (games, music, etc) would only be available through the headphones.
On my Galaxy Note, if I turn on silent mode, it seems to only affect the phone. For example, navigation, Skype notifications, etc, are all still heard. Is there a way to suppress all sounds in silent mode?

I realize that... but shouldn't silent mode still mute the media volume too? I assumed it muted the master volume, not just phone rings. I was in a job interview and had to turn the phone off because I was getting Skype messages
Is there an app/mod that can override the silent and make the phone truly silent without having to mess with the volume slider?

Ohh well if you go onto settings and click sound you can adjust volumes of media/alarm the way you want it its a slider thingy so if you want true silent just drag down all the sliders takes about 2 second to accomplish

shahkam,
I understand that but ALL others phones I've used with a silent switch, silence EVERYTHING. Going into volume and sliding the slider is extra effort than flipping a switch. Makes no sense that "silent" really does not silence the device. When you mute the volume on your Mac/PC, it does not selectively mute certain applications (system sounds, music volume, mic volume, etc). It mutes everything.
I'm sure I am not the only one who finds this strange. Is this an Android issue or specific to the Note?

Yes, there are profile apps that can be downloaded (mine is a paid app, easyprofiles) that can set all volumes e.g. ringtones & media volume, with a single click.

It sounds like skype is using the media audio channel for notification sounds, which should be going through the... notification channel! Sounds like a skype issue (the skype app is really bad)

It's not just Skype. As shahkam pointed out, even if you put the phone on silent, any apps using media volume are still audible. Defeats the purpose of silencing the phone, IMO. If I set the phone to silent, I expect NO audio (only vibrations).
Anyway, seems like I am beating a dead horse here and will have to use a 3rd party app for "one-click mute" instead of mucking around with volume sliders. Thanks for the suggestions.
P.S. yes, the Skype app is pretty bad but it was much worse on the iPhone.
The third party app "tasker" can provide a no click solution among other things. It can automate most anything, including completely silencing your phone when you have a meeting on your calendar. Send texts automatically to people when you are driving, etc.
If you are planning to stay on Android for a while, this powerful app is well worth its price.

which rom are you using? i put the phone into silent mode using the drop down toggle so it is on vibrate, i dont get any notification sounds for sms/email etc that i would if it wasnt on silent mode
i dont use skype so i cant say about that but it sounds like certain app are using their own sound system which is overriding the system default
Buddy the silence thingy on iPhone is the only good thing about an iphone it isn't so hard to silence it completely + if you use silent mode alot just go to message aand disable notification same for every other apps such as Skype i understand your frustration but i honestly think its not a big issue :/

Solution: AudioMuter
I was also annoyed by this "feature"... So I've written an app that can mute all audio outputs of your phone.
It's called AudioMuter and is available in the Playstore:
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=MyApps.AudioMuter&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsIk15QXBwcy5BdWRpb011dGVyIl0.
Hope this helps!
Silent thing in iphone is not the best. It sucks dude. The toggle or button of the iphone usually breaks.

You could get a 3.5mm jack and plug it into the headphone socket when you want silence.

Not necessarily, I still get SMS notification sounds on my handset when i have headphones in.
I use Slider Widget - Volumes in the Play Store; fantastic app, puts a widget with up to 6 toggles on it. I turned double touch toggle on in settings so I can just double tap the icon to toggle sound on and off. When i want silence I toggle off all but the alarm and in-call voice volume and with it on my home screen I can tell at a glance what sound is on/off.
For finer control, you click a toggle and it pops up a slider bar to adjust the volume.
I have to say, I agree with the person above...the fault lies more with Skype on your particular problem for apparently using the wrong volume setting for its notifications; it might not be entirely intuitive that silent mode leaves media volume on, but media volume SHOULD only apply to sounds you deliberately generate (ie, you start playing music or a game). Things like notifications/ringtones/etc go off at unexcpected times outside of your control, so those are the ones you want to silence... you can't hit play on your music app and then get angry at your phone for playing music lol.
So I finally returned from a two-year Apple iPhone 6s Plus. Got the Note 8. But I have to get used to Android again. Please help me out.
My phone is on Vibrate mode all the time.
I want the notification LED to work when I get an email in Gmail, but I don't want the phone to vibrate when I get an email. I used to be able to do this on my Note Edge, but now, I cannot get the right combination of settings to make it work on the Note 8.
I've tried different combination of settings in the Notification sections in conjunction with the settings under my account in Gmail. So far, I can only get the LED to blink if I do NOT turn on "Show silently" in the App notification section, and under my account setting: inbox sound and vibrate/sound/beep once. Even though I specifically in the same section, uncheck the "vibrate" box, the phone still vibrates when receiving an email.
Anyone has the right combo to make this work? Or this is a bug of some kind?
Thanks.
i dont think you can turn that off

I've been suffering with this since the s8+. Note hasn't been any different. Curious why the app settings get overridden.

From what I've read it's a bug, I don't want my phone to vibrate or play a notification from gmail just want the led to flash.
So I've downloaded a silent notification "sound" found in the zedge app and then choose this as a sound notification in gmail and it's working fine

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it, but it still vibrated because I am already in vibrate mode (even though I unchecked vibrate in my Gmail setting).
Note 8 Gmail/LED/Vibrate Issue
I think I have your answer. With the Note 8, you can set vibration intensity for notifications to 0 or the lowest setting. This basically eliminates any noticeable vibration when you receive an email yet activates LED, as long as you download silent ringer and turn both sound and vibrate on.
It's hard to understand why there is no LED on the Nokia 8, not necessarily a color one like on my trusty Lenovo P2, even a white one would do the trick for notifications...
Anyway I don't like audio on notifications so I was hoping to have the phone vibrate but that doesn't seem possible, am I missing something ? Thanks for any help !

That would also mute phone rings, which I doubt OP wants.
@webvan You can manually turn of notification sounds for each app by long-pressing an app icon and tap: App Info -> App notifications -> Messages -> Sound -> None.
Thanks, yes I'd still like the phone to ring !
Will try the app by app setting.
ok so I tried that method and you can indeed dig into the notifications and when they are set to a high or above importance you can activate "vibrate" and deactivate "sounds". Thanks !

Seems crazy that 10 years into Android development there is no option to only make your phone vibrate when a notification arrives instead of making a sound !

May I ask what apps you are trying to turn off sound notifications? For Instant Messaging apps like Viber, Signal, Telegram, etc. I can easily turn the sound notification OFF and leave the vibration option ON. Some apps don't have those options simply because they don't send and/or display notifications.
It's strange to hear you can't do that. Try exploring all the options around the Notification Settings in each app.
Oops, had edited my message in the meantime! Yes I found that the trick is to set importance of the notification to high or above to get control of the sound+vibration settings. All good now!
