I am coming from a z1c where the following occurred depending on notification type:
When a notification happened that was the blue light color(usually everything but phone calls and messaging) the phone would have 2 very short vibrates upon notification.
When a notification happened that was the white light color(usually JUST phone and messaging) the phone would have 2 longer vibrates upon notification.
I recently upgraded to a xz1c from my z1c and am at the US .119 firmware level.
The above notification vibration differentiation doesnt happen anymore =( its just always 2 long vibrates regardless of notification type (blue or white). Ive looked all over in options and dont see anything for it =(
I miss the behaviour of z1c in this case because I could easily tell from vibration in my pocket if it was something I had to prioritize or not.
Does anyone know of a place to change this? Is there any tweak I can do when rooted to system files to change this?
Thanks

Hi
I just received mine today, I was so consumed by messing around with settings and all programs that I just found that only one led is working on my phone - orange one during charging. Do you have the same? No notification about wifi/bluetooth/whatever during normal usage and it seams to me this model has 2 leds around front speaker. Do I have damaged phone, is it default behaviour or maybe I need to turn somehow those notifications??
There is only one on the D2. It's on the left. The right side is a light sensor to automatically adjust the screen brightness.
For notifications to show (flash green), go to settings/sounds and notifications and tick 'flash light' under email, mms, etc.
Thank you WMguy you saved my day
I experienced the same panic till i read the manual! But I really miss the "in service" flashing green light. It's useful as a quick check that the phone's in range and WM hasn't frozen and switched off as my last phone sometimes did.
I've already searched unsuccessfully, but if anyone knows a simple app to turn the one LED into a "in service" light I'd be grateful.
So, I'm just wondering about the advantage of active notifications over a multi-colored LED? I mean, the LED continues to blink without any user intervention, while the active notification requires user intervention to display. Sure, the IR sensors used to wake the device are incredibly useful. It would have been great to have both the IR sensors and a LED. Or, are the active notifications shown for an indefinite time until the user acknowledges them?

My (admittedly non scientific) experience indicates that the active notifications for email or SMS seems to stop after 15 minutes or so. Of course a wave of the hand shows it again. But I too remain unconvinced of the usefulness vs LED.
OK, maybe an Xposed module could keep those notifications blinking until the user shuts them off. I can easily see this happening.
Well i go back and forth with this issue..
I have the Z2 and new moto x, and before i was using nexus 5 and motoX , and cant tell you which one is better for sure.. When i use the muti colored led phone, i miss the active notifications, and the opposite when i use the active notifications . With led setup , you still have to touch to know what is it , even if you know that the color green for eg. is for sms. and yellow for em-mail. Same goes for active notifications, you see the icon on the screen representing the app that has a notification and still have to touch for more details, often for me the details are not helpfull , i still have to unlock and pull down the notification bar to see what is about. And with led , you dont have to look more carefully at the screen to see what app is, you can see the color by far or with your peripheral vision .
Well, i still think that the popup notification with android L and the iphone are better for me, but they end up calling to much attention to the screen when you receive a message , so it's not discreet like a led or active notification and people around will look every time something appear.
It doesn't require user interaction, it shows up when you get a new notification and go away after a while, which then you can still show it again with a wave.
Notification LED doesn't allow you to quickly read part of read the text message or see who it's coming from (unless you use LightFlow and set a specific color and pattern for each person, and I'm not going to go to that length to manually adjust and remember all that), which is the point of Active Display.
It's better in it's own way, RGB LED have it's own advantages, they are different things. If you prefer RGB LED, buy a Nexus.
The answer is rather simple actually. Active Display is not better than a coloured LED notification.
With LEDs you can set different colours for different purposes, which are cool, and the most advantageous thing is you can see it from distance.
With Active Display people generally say that you can see the incoming text or a missed call info just by tapping on the icon, true, but how many times do you not unlock the device actually? I at least do it all time. So if you are actually unlocking the device most times then what's the benefit of having Active Display over LED? None, at least that's what I think.
When I came to Moto X (2013) from S4, I loved the Active Display, I am not saying that I don't now, but as of this moment I don't find this option as useful as LED notifications, not at all.
I got my R1 HD recently. After I set up everything I noticed that when the screen is off, no matter whether I received an email, a sms or a missed call, the LED light just didn't flash. The phone did notify by sound and I can see items in status bar when I turn on the screen.
I looked at everything in the Settings, but couldn't find anything wrong. I called R1 representative and he said he never heard such issue before.
Then I ordered a replacement from Amazon and it arrived today. You know what, same thing happened! No LED light for notification. Just sound notification.
The only time I know there is an LED light is when I charge the phone (red) or when it's fully charged (green).
Has anyone seen such issue before? I greatly appreciate the help!
The LED can really only display red and green as when they are both on the red greatly overpowers the green so the color combination is not detectable. Lightflow can control which apps have access to the LED and which color to display. The LEDs are either on or off - no brightness levels. I have also not been able to get the LED to blink on notifications and suspect that this is also a hardware limitation of the phone. I've been quite disappointed in the LED notification capabilities. There are a couple of other threads about the notification light in the Blu forums here if you search
Thanks for the reply! I did try Lightflow, but it didn't help. In test mode or real mode, what I got was just a status bar notification, no LED.

I did have to change some settings for it to work with the Blu phone.
These are the settings I am using that allow apps to turn on the LED:
Under General settings, the following are checked:
Enable Light Flow
Show LED in priority mode
Device Admin
Enable Clear all
Accessibility check
Version upgrade reminder
Under Device settings and root, the following are checked:
Direct mode
Root mode
Run every command as root
Show LED with screen on
Nexus 5 force LED reset
I also have light flow enabled under settings->accessability and lightflow has root permission in supersu.
Oh so I have to root the phone? I just called Blu customer service, and they told me I need to do a factory reset..
Try it and let us know what happens, please. Some phones require root and others don't. I reflashed and rooted and xposed mine before I did anything else so I don't know if it works without root or not.
Solved! Did a hard reset (not factory data reset thru Settings) by pressing power button and volume up together to enter the recovery menu. I cannot believe Amazon/Blu missed such an important step that the customer has to do it by themselves..
Same here bit in a Blu vivo 5R in this case.
So... I need to execute a Factory Reset? And then appears the option for LED notification And works.
Hi ! I did buy a BLU VIVO XL2. No LED activity for notifications. I have the options for LED behavior (Settings/Advanced Settings/Under Hardware title, LED indicator, Notification Reminder ON but green LED never flashes when expected. Factory Reset tried: I used Volume Up & Power Button to get recovery menu. There, I took a backup (SD storage, no compression, several chunks of data). After that, I selected Factory Reset. When rebooted, Google did his automatic restore of phone. After that, I tried Restore from Recovery menu, but a msg informed backup was corrupted, so, I did get a full Factory Reset status, with my phone memory user data lost. NO LED Notifications working after all these actions !!!!! . LED is alive, when reporting Power status, so it is not HW damaged. I will keep fighting to get my LED notification activity working... Regards, Norberto !!!
Try the free version of LightFlow from the play store. It will allow you to test and turn individual notifications on or off. The light can on display red and green colors and the red is very much brighter than the green. Mine turns flashing red when I miss a phone call on the Blu R1 HD>
Hi !! Thnx yaconsult. I did try free & legacy, unsuccessfully. Have a good day !!
I guess the Vivo works differently, then. The notification light works ok on my R1. If I miss a call, I get a blinking red light.
All,
Has anyone noticed in the past couple weeks that with AOD on and when receiving a notification that activates Edge Lighting, that a little Edge Screen notification bubble comes on the AOD screen while the light is on, and disappears when the lighting is over, or upon unlock?
Kind of annoying to see a useless notification bubble under the clock for 3 seconds, and it's never done it before. I've disabled all notifications related to Edge Screen and it still shows up everytime I get a new notification that sets off the edge lighting.
Anyone experiencing this?

I personally haven't noticed it since I don't use it, but I did receive an Edge Lighting update last night.
Yes, since the last Update there is this strange notification. But, when the screen is on, the Icon won't appear, if not, is is there.
LOL, I'm trying it out but I still haven't found the bubble. The only thing close was the bubble effect in the settings.

Thank you! Now I can stop beating my head against the wall trying to fix it.
So I bought this phone yesterday, stock and no third party app. did a factory reset inserted the simcard and recieved a sms. when screen was off, a green small notification was blinking on left upper part of screen (something like what third party apps like aodnotify do but it was better). I was amazed that samsung finally did something to fill the void of an actual notification Led. but after my second factory reset (after a 450 mb update) the feature was gone!!
I searched every where for it. tried different settings in Aod and edge light and... nothing
can anyone explain this to me? could it be an experimental feature on my stock firmware that was removed from latest update?
thanks in advance
I don't understand it either. I don't have it on screen off but I have it when I charge the phone or answer a call. Weird behavior.
That's being used as a proximity sensor I believe to turn the screen on and off during calls. It might also disable the screensaver/always on mode if the phone is face down.
thanks for the answers.
Edit: that's the proximity sensor as you said which lights up during calls, but I don't know why it was lighting up when there was no app running and the screen was off. odd behavior! perhaps accidental touch detection was acting incorrectly.
