Change dp and text size? - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Hello.
I have searched with no result.
My question is: can tasker modify the dp (not DPI) setting that is under developer options and the text size?
I want to do this before connecting the device to an external screen through hdmi.
I know that secondscreen app can be launched within tasker and can change resolution and DPI but that also requires an UI refresh. Is a little more complex than using the options that are in the system already.
Thank you.

There is quite a good chance you can do it through shell root commands if you read this shirt article

Is is the option you asked? If yes, then it's possible.
You can use Autotools Plugin to change it.
Hopes this help.

@Jakob1379, @aillez thank you for answering.
The problems is that my case is a non rooted device, so the most of those shell commands cannot be executed.
The text size is one of the options I want change, the other is not the display size. Is the "smallest width" (i think is called that way in English) under developer options.
I will try to find the setting and see if it can be changed with shell command without root.
Thank you.

Would suggest autotools as well and if that doesn't do the job, he probably has to resort to automating screen touch with something like autoinput

[MOD]-No Root DPI Changer [WIN Program]

Hi everyone!
Made a small stand alone program that will connect, display & change your DPI for any android device with USB Debugging activated and appropriate drivers installed.
Backstory:
It seems Im one of the unlucky ones with a currently un-rootable H831 and I had wanted to change allot on this phone on the system level. One of the current mods I always implemented was a DPI change.
DPI change on a non-rooted phone is not a problem and is outlined here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/help/how-to-change-dpi-root-t3351366 and is using adb commands to do so.
** But I wanted an easier way to change my DPI and have reference to density & resolution without using ADB and cmd commands all the time. Also my wife can change her DPI like this on any PC without hassle. Therefore I wrote this little program that will display density, resolution and allow you to change it on your phone easily by just running it stand-alone. Since I put the effort into it already, thought I would share & maybe someone could use it the way my wife and I are
Anywho, I also attached some operational screenshots.

Im currently using 533,. This odd number works well with my launcher. others are reporting 560 and 540 as good as well. I have only seen a problem in my Instagram when cropping so far but other then that, everything is working well.

cameras working perfectly, tho the icons can get abit smaller its not an issue. In fact, I didnt really notice them till I compared it with the stock dpi. you should be good, just be careful not to go too low.
Thanks for fast answers m8. I read that SwiftKey has issues. Is it?

If however you notice the keyboard has shrunk abit, you can change the size of it in settings anyways.
Maybe I will try it at night then. Thx again m8.

Hm... I may have to try a new DPI again then. I know SwiftKey used to have issues whenever the DPI was changed to where the keyboard would appear very magnified but still worked as normal, you just couldn't see which keys you were pressing. If SwiftKey now supports different DPIs, I guess I'll have to try changing mine again! Any chance you can post a screenshot with SwiftKey open?
Is it possible to change the actual resolution to achieve more performance and battery using this program?
Good workaround! However, the always-on display is distorted. Is there a way to fix this?

Solution? to what? an over paranoid antivirus program lol!
Dude, In order to get an ADB terminal working I obviously need the ADB DLLs and my program when executed plops the 2 DLLs needed into a temp folder and also keeps ADB sevice open on the system. An antivirus program sees the dropped dlls and the live system service running as suspicious, but believe me its not.

Yes, There are commands using ADB that can change the render resolution mode so I would need to program it in as an option. Maybe I could look into adding that in the future.

No fix for this. You would need a rooted phone and that service framework modded on the system level to even attempt to fix DPI issues with the always-on display. Workaround - deactivate it, or see if there are any third party ones.
Awesome thanks. Just got my H831 today. Sad there is no root yet.
This is one of the main changes I wanted root for.

As file Explorer says app not found, am I doing some thing wrong?

Using tasker to simulate power button

I want to use tasker to turn the screen off. Secure Settings > Lock Device forces me to use pin, which is not what I want, as I use a finger print scanner to wake my device. Shell > Input keyevent 26 does not work either, as I am not rooted (Huawei Mate 9 pro, doesn't seem to have a reliable root yet).
I have tried doing it with System > Send intent, but that seems to have no effect. I dont know if I am doing it wrong. I have also tried
Code:
terminal task
, with a code like this (and some variants of it), without success:
Code:
am start --user 0 -a android.intent.extra.KEY_EVENT --es KEYCODE_POWER ACTION_DOWN
I have also tinkered with
Code:
android.intent.action.SCREEN_OFF
...but with even less success.
Any ideas as how how I can get this to work? Either with terminal emulator or tasker send intent task?
I think you can't do that cause you're using your Fingerprint. That is a security future and Tasker can't bypass it. Don't nail me on it cause I am not sure. Maybe someone else can prove me wrong.

Maybe you could setup a workaround for this. For example, you could lower the display timeout value to one second so your device locks itself.
(Don't forget to change the timeout back to your preferred value after another second!)

Good idea. But the minimum is 7 seconds, which is too long to wait, for the solution to be worthwhile.
I found a way to do it:
1: Create a task:
display > display timeout: 8 seconds
scene: Show scene: popup - display as overlay, blocking, full screen2: create a profile for screen on, create task:
hide scene: popup
display > display timeout: 30 seconds
So you're hiding the ui with a black screen until the screen is really switched off after 8 seconds, right? But what happens when you press the back or home button within the 8 seconds? Does the scene disappear?
This is what I do. Just make a task with Run shell, no need for security settings app. In the command line type input keyevent 26. You then can add a short cut when you double tap the homescreen to turn off the screen.
@snorrski you might want to have a look at this:

It seems to be exactly what you wanted. It works without root and on my (unrooted) S7 Edge, I can still use the fingerprint sensor to unlock my device after locking it this way (input keyevent POWER).

I know it's been over 2 years since y'all had this discussion, but I hope this still reaches you.
The power button on my Mi A1 stopped working recently and I can't seem to find it's replacement flex cable anywhere. I'm entirely new to Tasker but I have been reading for hours now to find ways to use a screen based interaction (say a double tap on the screen) to simulate the Power button to turn the screen off while still being able to unlock my phone with my fingerprint scanner.
So far, I've understood that it is doable (with an article refering to input keyevent 26), even more so on Android Pie (with another article refering to using Global_Actions) than it was previously possible, but am entirely clueless on how. I also couldn't quite understand the process of using the remote ADB shell plugin you mention here.
Could either of the two of you please share a step-by-step how-to on how to achieve the same? It would really help a lot. Thank you
Note: I'm using unrooted Mi A1 running stock Android Pie with July 1st security patch.

There are button remapping apps and apps that do double tap for off in the play store. Also, launchers can do this. Nova launcher for sure, but others I believe as well.

It is. Although, the price is 3.5x the price if I got it from an authorised Xiaomi service centre (except the one in my locality doesn't have it) and about 14x than what is available at local mobile spare parts shops (again not available). Hopefully, I'll find it soon.

The easy way is to use the Secure Settings action in AutoTools. That has a direct option for accessibility services. I plan on adding that option to Tasker directly at a later date.
With the Custom Setting action what you should do is read the value, remove or add the needed service from the list, the write the setting.

If you've locked the refresh rate to a specific value as a custom power/batery setting, that will disable the switch and default to whatever you've fixed it to. Once you remove it, it will become flexible again

Change DPI for Android Auto

Hello,
I have a Citroën C4 Picasso 2 with a 10'. screen but with Android Auto the bottom bar and icons are huge! I am looking for a way to reduce it (SQL or Xml or application?)
I used to use Extra aa with substratum but it doesn't work anymore.
I was told to check with the Odb2aa application but it does not exist anymore....
so I'm looking for a solution, even if in SQL or XML I don't care, I just want to reduce the size of the icons and the bar.
S8+ android custom minimal root.
Thanks in advance

Hello, thank you for your answer.
I don't need the wireless dongle, I have a dedicated tel in the car (for screen2auto)
Another idea that doesn't require a 100$ investment?
Okay I see , i wouldn't have any other suggestions besides maybe trying AA mirror or the plus version . I didn't think they were that expensive , I got mine relatively cheap . But I agree wouldn't want to spend 100 bucks on that .
Or perhaps reverting to a previous version of the app?
actually there is an updated version of obd2aa whihc might work with wired AA. Try to install it also maybe with King Installer or aaease. it should work theoretically if you dont have ColorOs. Xiaomi Os, etc kind of chinese SW

Hi,
I used ODB2AA to reduce the DPI, no need for Torque.
I just have a problem that I'm trying to fix, it doesn't connect every time
Odb2AA asks for permission to replace android auto.

but did you manage to modify the dpi to reduce the size of the bar?
What DPI parameter should be set to reduce?
Yes, i have Set 102 dpi with new coolwalk i have the bar in left. The result done Size bar +- 10px
ok, thanks, i will try that setup

I have changed the resolution to 720x800 which is the lowest available in my Samsung Fold2.This done in the Developer settings of Android Auto. Now I am getting Coolwalk. Also in my Nokia 6.1, I changed the Smallest Width in the Display Settings to the lowest and enabled Tablet Mode in the Developer settings. Now I can link the Nokia 6.1 with my primary phone in WhatsApp.
For the step :
Install AA

Thank you very much for your help, I have installed obd2aa v.3.6a via kinginstaler and started AA and got a message to use AA or obd2aa, selected obd2aa, it seems to be running but no obd2aa option screen appears on the screen of the car (I attach an image so you can see that it is running), I am using a Samsung A33 smartphone with Android 13, you know what may be happening.
It is that I need to change the DPI in AA to try to take more advantage of the car's screen and the AA taskbar appears vertically, I am working with coolwalk.
Thanks in advance for your help.
