I would kill for stock - Moto G5S Plus Questions & Answers

Man I just want 100% stock with no head aches . Everytime i try to go back i loose imei . YES i have my efs on back up but it appears that every time ive flashed a stock firmware i have no recovery . Every time i end up flashing twrp to restore my imei . And having twrp nulls ota. I guess im asking if a proven way exists for 100% stock with out dropping imei and keeping stock recovery.
Im kinda sick of the unclear instructions , bull**** links , and no clear path to restoring stock . Get off the custom roms devs and give us a clear path to stock for the hobbyist .
PLEASE! THE MINUTE I FLASHED A CUSTOM ROM THIS PHONE BECAME A HEADACHE ! ATLEAST A WAY TO FLASH STOCK RECOVERY THAT WORKS . YES I HAVE READ EVERY SINGLE POST ON THE ISSUE AND IM LEFT DOUBTING EVERY SINGLE THREAD .

ME TOO
idk i guess i thought all this would be pretty easy , never had these issues 3 ys ago on my note 3 . always seemed to have great direction and an easy way back home

Just exclude the following commands in fastboot so your IMEI will not be erased
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2

atleast you have your efs to recover your imei. I have no way of recovering imei. This phone is a garbage now

It really works. Restore EFS partition via TWRP (when you are in custom ROM, for example), then return to stock. Skip the commands I mentioned because those commands erase the EFS partition you restored.

Data corrupted

I did go back to GB and i updated to newest GB nordic and i had my phone like that in hours without root or anything...and just like that i couldnt make call and when i went to setting it says baseband "unknown" so i asked around and ppl said wipe would fix the problem, when i made the wipe i got this error " E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument) " so i was thinkin maybe ill make a new flash in odin and i did that after that i couldnt start the phone, its turning on but i get only on samsung logo, i can go to download mode or CWM and i can use adb from pc to the phone but i cant do anything..so i check DATAFS and tested it and its corrupted, it goes to 5 % and then its stops.
So what can i do ? Please help..
wrong threads mate...this is devt...
wrong thread n you will not get answer here
It sounds like your EFS is corrupted, Do you by any chance have a back up of it ?
Check your IMEI number, I assume it will be Samsung generic 0044xxxxxxxxxxx something like that.
This happened to me a few times on the SGS1. I tried flashing GB via ODIN, with EFS clear ticked, It worked for me but i would advise you not to do this unless you have no other solutions.
When i check my IMEI *#06# then i dont get any IMEI, its empty and now when i try to flash gb stock or ICS then i cant start the phone..i get only to logo and when i try to wipe its gettin freezed
So is the phone booting at the moment ? Can you access recovery by any chance ?
Flashing a clean stock ODIN firmware usually fixes this issue.

I can access download mode and "CMW" without a problem and i can use the adb too but then i cant do anything else
ok, You definitely dont have an efs backup on your sd card or PC anywhere ? I have one on mine, I didnt create it, Some ROM or kernel created it but i cant recall which one.

No sorry i dont have the efs backuped up, im new on this, everything happened without any reason, i didnt do anything...but i think the data is corrupted too cuz i cant do anything, i mean before i did the first time wipe i could go in the phone but i couldnt make call but now i cant do anything then download mode, recovery mode.
Ok, Well try this:
Go into CWM recovery, Wipe Cache partition and Dalvik Cache, DO NOT DO A FULL WIPE UNLESS YOUR KERNEL IS SAFE
then,
Flash stock GB via odin, After the flash, Reboot into recovery (will be stock android recovery) and do a full factory reset.
Then reboot, The phone should boot up normally, and hopefully EFS will be restored. If the phone doesnt boot, We can explore some other options.
The EFS corruption wont be preventing the phone from booting.

So your note is bricked ? or do you just think it could be ?
The pit files are on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667886

This brick thing was long time ago and i fixed it with flashing pit...now after 3-4 week this happened with the radio but i was on stock GB nordic and didnt have root or anything and that happened...
Edit: btw can u give me safe KERNEL
Hmm i cant format /data, its gettin freezed.
Edit: now it says data wipe complete but it still get freezed, do you think i got problems with my /data ?
Right ok, Well Im not sure how flashing the pit files work, Luckily ive never had this issue, I assume you will flash them via ODIN combined with a firmware too ?
If thats the case, use GB as its always a safe option to go back to.
Or, I heard somewhere, that you could flash the NON patched pit files and this will put your phone back into the bricked state, Then you could send it out for warranty.
Anyway, this is the end of the line for me, I dont know what to do next im afraid But let me know how you get on

When i made wipe in recovery mode, the phone got freezed but then it said its complete and it took time then i clicked to restart and now it take time to restart...i get to the samsung galaxy note gt n7000 and it get freezed for a bit then the phone restart again
Im confused, Is this happening before or after you flashed the patched pit files ?
Look here for a reference http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26285877&postcount=12
Is there a way to remove the counts in adb or cmw or something if there is then i can go to service and go with my garanti.

ive flashed with odin with stock and pit and the phone complete it and then after when it starts i get errors IU something...i do wipe and it freeze a bit then it complete then i reboot the phone and it gets freezed to logo
right i see,
So the phone is now completely stock right ? Including stock recovery also ?
if so, You can use a USB JIG to remove the yellow triangle and binary count, Thus resulting in a clean stock faulty phone of which you should get fixed under warranty.
Here's the guide on removing the binary count and triangle, you can make your own jig or buy one online. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...vuz_Bg&usg=AFQjCNE_p2cZdwEpNAhP2QNPUyFYWAfmzQ
However Flashing stock firmware should have reset the binary count and removed the triangle.

[Q] custom recovery

so i have the custom recovery clockworkmod 6.0.3.6
and when I reboot to the recovery and do what ever with it when i press reboot phone (first choose )
1 2 3
tinypic . com/r/25uu100/5
(remove the spaces)
it says: "Rom may flash stock recovey on boot. FIx?
this can not be undone
no
no
no
no
no
no
no
yes- disable recovery flash
no
no
no
++++go back+++++
so, I am wandering what should I do,
I am willing to install a custom rom but I am afriad of problems with the recovery
farther more, what if I want to use my warranty will choosing "yes" cause a problem?
in addition i noticed that on the bottom of the screen there is a massage says :
warning: no file contexts
what does it mean what should I do ?
thanks for your time
Do whatever >>>> what does that mean exactly .
Post really does not make any sense .

a. the phone is booting just fine
i am willing to insall a custom rom and i am not sure if to choise yes fix because i am afraid of problems with the phone after choosing fix:
i dont want the costum rom to install recovey over this recovery and get my recovery corrupted.
and about the root i know i can unroot my phone and use tringle away but with the recovery i dont know how to restore that to the stock
so to sum up before installing a custom rom what to choosie yes or no (on the massage )
Basically the problem is a total lack of understanding regarding rom custom roms etc .
You had better start by reading and understanding the basics before bricking your phone as you don't have a clue .
Basics read first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344125
Critical you read the first two posts and understand the difference between I9300 and I9305 .
At a guess the message is due to failure to root .

Stock Recovery being reflashed after a reboot?
There is an auto recovery restore system on stock roms that will reflash the Stock Recovery on a Stock Rom. If the restore files are renamed then CWM Recovery should not be overwritten after a reboot.
You need to be rooted and then delete or rename the following files:
Quote:
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Why don't you start from the beginning as per the faqs and guides root flash recovery flash custom rom whatever .
I simply do not understand your posts they make little sense and i cannot work out where you are in the flashing process .
EG
Stock Recovery being reflashed after a reboot?
>>> No it is not flashed .
There is an auto recovery restore system on stock roms that will reflash the Stock Recovery on a Stock Rom
>> Their is no auto recovery stock includes stock recovery.
If the restore files are renamed then CWM Recovery should not be overwritten after a reboot.
>> no idea at all what this is and you do not rename files .
Are you sure you are in the right forum ?? this is I9305 forum .

Use Odin to flash recovery, or heimdall if you are running Linux.
You can already copy or download su zip ( in case you want stock rooted.) or custom ROM to your sdcard, so that you have it ready for flashing.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 4
Use this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942150
Why use this Root Method? Well the main reasons are:
- You have a complete Odin Flashable ROM Package.
- No Insecure Kernels are used or required.
- You can flash these packages on Non-Rooted devices
- The Binary Flash Counter will NOT increase when flashing these ROM Packages.
- The Red Exclamation Mark will NOT appear at boot up.
- And finally, you only have to flash one file in Odin and you have a complete firmware including Root Permissions.

Bootloop, cannot flash a new ROM

Hi everyone,
I really need help, I have tried everything I could think of and nothing works. So if someone more knowledgeable could help me, that would be great.
I followed the instructions in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
and everything went ok until I flashed a new ROM.
Current situation : Bootloop when I power up. Can still access TWRP recovery. Phone is recognized by flashtool/xperia companion/emma.
Tried to flash a new ROM with flashtool->error (can't read byte value), I tried de/re-installing flashtool and the drivers and different ROMs, always the same result
Tried to repair with xperia companion->error, can't complete
Tried emma->phone is locked
Tried sideloading ROM to flash through TWRP-> error
I don't understand how, even if I flashed a corrupted ROM, it could prevent me from flashing a new one over it?
Any ideas?
Thank you.
You can try xflasher tool as well.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/dev-xflasher-command-line-flasher-t2986634
But be warned - this is for more experienced users. I never tried it but it sounds like to be very powerfull.
For questions ask in xflasher thread... I never used it up to now...
But sometimes it helps to wipe cache/dalvik AND data from TWRP. Yes - all your data is away then!
Not nice to loose data but a bootable phone is even better...
Or flash again full ftf via flashtool. Wipe APPS_LOG/USERDATA (check boxes) but do not flash simlock.ta (if its there) !!!
This will wipe all your data as well..... While flashing, say NO to "fcs-script" popup.
. .
Thanks for the replies.
I tried different USB cable/port, no change.
I always selected to wipe everything in flashtool. I just got the phone so there was none of my data to save.
I will look at xflasher although, as you said, it looks intimidating...

[HELP] Mi5 Doesn't Boot

The situation is a little complicated, so I'll explain step by step. I appreciate any help, idea what what caused this or if I can do anything to fix. Please, write if you have even a little clue.
- The top speaker (earpiece) was faulty. I wanted to change it.
- I damaged signal antenna port on motherboard while changing the speaker.
- Anyway, phone was working in all this process. Just no signal.
- After, removing motherboard for a second time, phone didn't boot up.
- I flashed a custom rom via TWRP. (phone was already unlocked.). Didn't boot.
- I flashed MIUI via TWRP. Didn't boot.
- I flashed MIUI via Xiaomi Flash Tool. Didn't boot.
- I am able to enter fastboot and recovery.
- It's charging, without problem.
- It doesn't stuck on kernel phase (It passes the MI screen).
- It stuck on boot screen. I have waited really long times, more than 30 minutes.
Do you think, I f***ed up the motherboard? Why it doesn't boot? Please, share if you have any idea.
@baggord
If the motherboard was dead, you'd not be able to turn on your phone.
Sounds like software to me at the moment.
Some ideas:
Are you on the latest twrp version (3.2.3-0)?
Did you try reflashing latest twrp via fastboot (not from within twrp)
and then wiped all partitions (including mounting and also wiping vendor) following a formatting of the data partition (where you need to type "yes") following a reboot to recovery?
Did you try restoring the efs partition from a backup where everything worked?
Would also rather try a stable custom ROM to test.
Hi,
If nothing worked, follow the instruction of this video. It worked for me after dropping my phone in water.
Sorry for my poor English?

I tried flashing twrp via fastboot. I've also tried stable custom rom and stock rom.
I'll try to format all partitions then re flash a rom. I don't have an efs partition backup. Can I backup in this situation or do you think it's already gone?
Thanks for the reply!

An old efs backup could have been of use, as sometimes important things like the imei get lost and you would only be able to restore it via this partition.
Next time better make an efs backup right away and store it at a safe external place in case you one day might need it.
In this scenario it's too late.
If it's faulty you only backup something that doesn't help you later.
Might still be that your problem has another source.
Then, if we found out a solution and everything is working well again, of course you could make that backup.
Please tell us if the wiping and formatting changed anything.
Good luck!

@Phil_Smith
I talked to my brother since I'm out of town.
He wiped all partitions including vendor.
Reboot into recovery. (format data returned error, before reboot)
Then format data. (worked fine)
Reboot into recovery.
Flashed a custom rom.
It boot up!
Thanks.
IMEI stays by the way. Now we need to fix the antenna somehow. Phone is still alive, at least. Thanks again!

HELP with EFS backup. Imei 0 and Baseband Not Found :(

First of all, I am an Argentine using the google translator.
Hello, good evening, I urgently need help to solve the following problem:
I have a moto g5s plus, xt18000, with android 8, to which I apply a custom rom HAVOC-OS-v3.5 TEN [10.0] - [SANDERS]). As God commands, backup the EFS folder with TWRP and apply the ROM.
The rom worked wonderfully, but it had no mobile network. Yes IMEI.
Perform the restore from TWRP, but it remained the same, without network, but with IMEI.
I went back to a stock 8 to see if I got the signal back. In addition to not recovering it, I LOST THE IMEI and BASEBAND.
Install a stock 7 and nothing. In all (in 8 and 7) install twrp and restore, but without it working.
And just in case I googled EVERYTHING, in ALL languages.
It gives me a lot of anger because I have the blessed backup of the EFS folder and it does not work for ANYTHING.
I know there are many posts on this topic but in none I found a solution, or guide.
Can somebody help me?
Thank you.
EDIT: In fastboot I Have my ORIGINAL IMEI. But in android is 0.
Hi maurorisuenio, i had the same issue flashing evo x rom on my wife phone. I spent almost 1 day to solve the problem, i'll try to give you my step to step guide, it worked for me.
- from custom rom flash back to stock rom, i used RETEU version 8.1 (i don't know what's the south america stock rom), on xda is full of thread "how to flash stock rom"
- flash custom recovery 'cause when you flash stock rom it repleace custom recovery with original one.
- now restore your EFS backup
- boot the phone, you should get back your IMEI but still no network signal
- flash the custom rom you want wiping system/data/cache just to have a clean install
-reboot your phone.
As i said it worked for me, hope it's ok for you as well.
Download the latest stock firmware and flash it in fastboot mode and remove sim before flashing and after phone boots insert sim, you will get your signal and imei back
