Updated [Dev][App] NoLitez 1.0.28 Dec 17 2008

UPDATE: Dec 17, 2008
older versions are no longer available here, the latest version is in the market under the developer name "snctln"
let me know if you have any problems with it

so I decided not to abandon development, competition is a good thing, right? and I am going to update the first post with a new build... in this new build there are a lot of improvements
- all 50 levels from the classic lights out, before it only had the first 5
- after level 50 new levels are randomly generated... I believe there are more than 8000 solvable
- added a hint engine... press the menu key and select the "Show Hints" and you will see a small red dot on the keys that you need to press in order to complete the puzzle, updates in real time, you can turn off this feature if you want by going back to the menu and selecting "Hide Hints"
- the state of the application is saved across instances... this way you can continue a game even if you restart your phone
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
My main question is this: Does this app feel the like it is the sae quality as other apps on the Market? Or does it seem cheap and too simple?

(mods: if this is not the correct forum to post development of an android app please feel free to move the post or tell me where to move it to)
So I put up a thread a week or 2 ago requesting android app ideas and at first it seemed that games were in demand, so I started working on a simple game...
NoLitez is a simple game that take inspiration from the old simple handheld video game "Lights Out", (wikipedia link)
basically the idea of the game is that all spaces in the gird can either be turned on or off... the goal is to get all of the lights off. When you touch a light, you toggle the state of that light and the 4 lights immediately north, south, east and west of the light
I ran the apk using the latest android for titan build and it worked as I would expect.
So now I am curious if any G1 owners want to be a beta tester for me and tell me if this apk even works for them, and if so what they think of the game.
I only have very basic features implemented, and only the first 5 levels...
This would count as my first android application so please go easy on the criticism, but I am open to hearing all things good and bad
thanks for any feedback
i tried it out, good game. No crashes or hangs, works as described

cool, thanks for the feedback
Nice. Clean interface and classic gameplay. I remember when they advertised these things on television in the '90s.
On a side note, how's Android running on TyTN? There's not a week goes by that there isn't a new device Android is running on, but it seems that most of the devices still need some spit polish.

well I have a Titan rather than a TyTN (PPC6800, CDMA device, aka Sprint Mogul vs P4500 GSM aka AT&T 8525 here in the states) [but they do seem to be named the same]... and I have to say that android doesn't run too well on it, I have been able to get android up and running on it since July thanks to dzo's vogue releases but even with the latest editions the touchscreen doesn't work quite right and the button mappings aren't very intuitive to me... maybe I just need to give it more than 5 minutes, but my plan is to buy a Android Dev 1 or some unannounced 2009 android phone so I shouldn't have to rely on testing on an unsupported QVGA device... but I just got laid off last Friday, so it could be a while until I have a proper android device to develop with
Works like a charm, no bugs at all and a pretty fun game! Do you mind if i throw it in my g1 files in my sig?

I am glad that you are enjoying it, it is not a problem to put the apk up in your directory, I have a few more things that I want to do before I make a proper release in the android market, but I have a few questions and I am not sure if this is the proper place to ask them
1.) Does this application behave as you would expect it to as far as saving and restoring its state? Like if you get a phone call or have to leave the app for some reason when you restore the app does it save the lights on/lights off state? Does it at least behave as you would expect it to when compared to other G1 apps?
2.) I am not fully sure if this application would be allowed in the market because Tiger electronics has the "Lights Out" game patented... does anyone know if any other game "clones" exist on the market like say a tetris clone?
thanks again for the feedback
There's an app on the Market called 'Lights Out" already...? Seems to be the same game? Not sure who developed it though.

wow... you are correct, this exact same game already exists for android and I had no idea. Looks like I am going to abandon development unless someone thinks it is good to have diversity in the market, since I don't have a G1 there really is no way for me to test to see the differences that may exist...
I enjoyed putting this together, but I wish there was some way to browse the titles available on the market other than directly from a G1, that way I would have known to work on something different. (and after a quick search my second game that I was planning on making "4NARow" (a connect 4 clone) is already on the market too...
maybe if I pay the $25 and register as an android developer I can see the different apps available in the market?

nice find
Im using it now, its cool that you can turn it off, hide, sign out etc, i think it will come in handy at some point....added to the collection
I am trying to install this on my phone, but every time I try to install it's failing and saying please reinstall and opening internet explorer with download page.
installing as we speak.... question though which I didnt quite understand from the page I read on it. In order for me to see someone on the phone... say... my wife... she also has to have this program installed? It would be awesome if it was a simple as putting in someones phone number and you could get a trace on them haha... like in the movies
trying to install but it keeps giving me an error saying it cannot find the URL required during the Midilet install. help?
I downloaded this but will the Manila/TF2D tabs still point correctly to Google Maps?

Only one way to find out I guess
I'm for instead of new features, they fix it for VGA. If you have a vga or larger screen, allow us to zoom in more than a 2 block radius. I miss being about to zoom to 2 house wide zoom.
The file GoogleMaps cannot be found...
Anybody getting this when trying to get this to work via contact menu?

Yeah she have to have this installed. And you need two Google account. One for you and your wife. Run the program then hide it in the background. The stalking begins.. Lol
You can also view from igoogle. It says that it's unavailable in my location, but if i go to m.google.com/latitude in my browser, it takes me back to igoogle and latitude works.
Installed yesterday, working like a charm. Like a couple others have mentioned, it only gives me the download if I use PIE.
It's really pretty cool, especially the "exit but hidden" feature. I hate having anything in my task list
I'm running into a ton of bugs with this, on the PRoven 1.14a ROM.
THe first time I run it, all is fine. But the second time, I get a lot of nonsense in the menus. The left softkey says "your phone number" or "los angeles," depending on which screen I'm on, then brings up functions that don't seem to make any sense ...
If I uninstall, then reinstall, all is fine the first time I run it. And it goes wacky the second time again.
Here's the cab if anyone wants it.
This is an awesome feature...wife and i tested it today. Now my two oldest kids (sitting on WM devices) can't get away with the stuff my wife and I did when they start high school next year. I am so happy I'm not old. I'm such a ninja father!

Good to know that there are others out there like me...
aha ninja father's
But do they have google maps always on?
If the wm phone is off it isn't possible to look where they are or am i wrong?
I installed latitude but i'm the only one on the map (i know i don't have any friends. but it would be nice to look where my kids are.
Then it will be Xmas tomorrow, they get a nice wm machine
Installed it and it works like a charm. Combined with the new radio (for better GPS locking), its an awesome application.
Thanks!
<shameless plug>It's included in viBranZeOS 1.0 ROM</shameless plug>

[Q] Anyone working on stuff via NOOKextras?

I'm going to avoid rooting, at least for the time being, I never rooted my D1 either. Anyways, I know January 1st, the thing's being upgraded with Adobe Flash and the Nook app store. (Flash hopefully means it's being upgraded to 2.2 as well, the lady in the store said both Flash and apps on January 1st).
I'm wondering who if anyone, is working on apps for publishing through the Nook store.
NC will not see its marketplace or any significant upgrade on January 1, believe me. The company is currently saying 'first quarter' for the marketplace and no timeframe whatsoever on flash/2.2
Two days ago when I went to B&N to pick up my nook the guy at the front showing off the nook told me it would be "upgraded to android 2.2 Gingerbread in the not to distant future." Not knowing what to make of that I just nodded my head in agreement maybe this guy knows something we don't... anyways love my stock nook.

2.2 Gingerbread, LOL. Hey, at least they can help you find a book so they aren't completely useless! (Not all are this ignorant of course, some are very informed.)
Obviously, being someone who was waiting for the 2.1 update for Droid 1, which was given a release date like three or four times, I know that release dates aren't exactly set in stone. Believe me.
But she did state January 1st with some manner of certainty, like it was a date stated somewhere internally. Whether or not it actually happens by then or not is obviously yet to be seen.
It's possible the lady was outright wrong too, we'll see I suppose. I do know she was a Droid owner too.
I accidentally set the default action to open home screen instead of the softkeys app... Is there anyway to change this setting? (I tried reinstalling)

install another launcher like zeam\adw\launcher pro, it will prompt you again, set it to softkeys then uninstall the extra launcher (or keep it if you wanna have 'two' launcher setups)
Since you have a non-rooted nook could you try to get to the USB debug screen as described in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=862531
If you enable USB debugging there you can push applications via adb. (And you don't have to do anything you couldn't have done by accident )

[FIX]Demo Kindle Fire2- CableFree Method

Hi Folks
Before we start , A bit of background as I've been reading these forums and I am aware how some may find this a contenious subject, So before anyone goes accusing me of any illegality let me say I have a Kindle Fire 2 and Kindle Fire HD, both in demomode as they were acquired from the Comet UK Firesale after the company went bankrupt late last , Unfortunately I don't think the staff where that dedicated to customer service at that point.
Right Down to business - So in the doing the research the obviously the Factory Cable Method and that's about it isn't it? I thought I have a little play around as my solder skills aren't the great.
The Firmware on the Device is 10.0.2.A I'd expect this to work on earlier firmware, Later ones however I'm not so sure, The Aforementioned Fire HD which I also have has had the Final Part of the process I'm going to describe fixed.
What You Need: Your Fingers and A Wifi network you can connect to!
1. Boot The Fire, Touch To Try The Fire and Run.
2. With the device in Potrait, Press in the search box , three options should appear below the search box ( Libraries , Stores and Web )
3. Press Web. I was the informed I had no network connection, and very nicely asked "If I wished to sign in?"
4. Press the Wireless Settings button which should take you to the wireless network settings. where you can configure a network
5. Download an apk file, any apk file will do , google code have lot, and I've heard this other site, I think it begins with an X They also have a couple
6. Pull the Nofication Bar Down, You should have a notification that the download is complete, Click to install
7. You'll Should Get a notification about non amazon prime apps not being allowed along with the option to change that setting,
8. Press the Settings button to take you into the Device menu. From there you can get into developer option and turn USB Debugging On!
9. An For the Icing on the cake , you can restart adb as root from your PC. as demo seems to have an insecure boot image. lol so you don't even need any root explioits.
Not much else to say other than "All you are demo modes belong to us", I'm glad I didn't go with plan A to update the firmware.
Note: Don't worry If it restart demo mode in the middle as your wifi connection settings are perisisted
Also Keep Unknown Application Sources off and you'll be able to run this process as many times as you like.
I'll post pictures etc later on as I've not removed demo yet. I've not remove demo mode yet.
Like I say this could be very specific to just this version the firmware

Missing Fire for Kids Web Browser on 2 out of 3 Fire 7's

Hi,
I have updated 3 of my Amazon Fires to 5.1..1 today. One of the fires updated itself (unexpectedly), and the other two I forced through the update. On the 1 that updated itself I got a notification/popup about a new browser and did I want to enable it. I selected yes and I now had the Fire for Kids Web Browser option in Profiles and Family.
On the other two, I haven't been prompted since moving to 5.1..1 and the option is missing in Profiles and Family.
All 3 are rooted, OTA updates disabled, no adds on lock screen.
Any idea how I can get this feature working on the other two tablets?
Thanks
Mike
