Been loking into some stuff and can see an option to use google nowninstead of hiboard. has anyone tried this?
What is hiboard?
Only choice is a third party launcher.

Does anyone know of a way I can block the market from my toddler? He just figured out how to buy apps and every time I look at my phone he has a new one on.
I'm thinking of making a script to copy the market apk somewhere and another script to restore it so I can use it when I want, but is there another way?
Wouldn't it be easy if you sign in with an google account which does not have credit card linked to it?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Ahhh..
My generation played with Light-Brights , now toddlers are buying apps from the market.
How about Airplane Mode?
Or something like APN on-off, and just kill the wi-fi connection.
This might not be the solution you're looking for, but if you use a third party launcher (LauncherPRO, ADW Launcher, GO Launcher, etc) you can hide the market icon, and showing it again is only a few clicks away.
It would stop him from accessing the market unless he finds out how to show hidden apps . Plus third party launchers can be a lot of fun, they add a lot of features and customization.
Why do you even let your kid use your phone?
Try DroidWall
Try DroidWall, I am using it to block my Market.
Zoodles KidMode is an app that locks the phone into a kids area, so they can only access age appropriate games and videos in a sandboxed environment. Might be worth investigating. It would mean they couldn't access other games on the phone they might be used to, but out does protect the phone somewhat!
You can get it for free on the market.

I can't help but wonder why Samsung did not enable access to Google now (or google voice search) from the Gear smartwatch.
Any ideas on how to implement this ( perhaps with a third party solution or otherwise)?
they did not implement it because it's better than s voice. and such a big company would not want you to use third party services.
no way to enable it now, gotta wait for custom rom i guess.
To redirect the comunication from S-Voice ( on the watch) to use google voice search ( instead of S-voice on the phone) would be great.
still looking for an alternative solution for now.
Here are some alternatives.
I wonder if a gear quick launch (double press power) on handset device for Google voice search is possible. But I know google now cards would be even more amazing.
After flasing to 4.4.2 (vzw LG G2) I cannot for the life of me get Google Search to work ('ok google') on my home screen. If I press the Google search widget, it opens up the Google Now search widget and then I have no problems with the 'ok google' feature.
Anyone know how to make that work on the home screen? Using Nova Launcher if that makes any difference.
Thanks,
Jeff
Found the answer via Nova's developer (the answer is no unfortunately):
----
Google Now integration, in the exact same way that Google does so, is not possible. This includes the swipe to the left for Google Now and the "Ok, Google" hotword. The Google Experience Launcher (GEL) is not a stand alone component, but actually a bundle of Google Search, Google Now, and GEL. With current APIs, it's not possible for Nova to access Google Now in the exact same way that the GEL does. However I am looking into ways to achieve similar functionality. Quick access to Google Now is already possible by swiping up from the home button (on devices with navigation bars), or by assigning a Nova Gesture to launch Google Now. Some users have suggested placing a full screen Google Now widget on the left most page. I'll be investigating further enhancements in this area, but it's important to note that the exact Google experience is not possible for non-Google apps.

Hope this might help someone else.
Thx.
I installed Allo, having been told that Google Assistant will come with it. I have a OP3T
After downloading it seems nothing more than Google Now?? Is there something else I need to do
I would really appreciate any help you can give
Hi @eric0668
Allo will allow you to use the google assistant only within the application it self. If you would like google assistant instead of google now then there are different ways to do that.
Thanks H3rnand3zz
In spite of the number of posts I am really a newbie.
1. So even when I open Allo, it seems no different than Google Now
2. Could you help me get it working like it does on the Pixel [Non root]. I had the Pixel and really liked Google Assistant
Thanks Again

Sure no problem... So for the first question. You have to send Google assistant a message. So on the bottom right corner of the Convo list click new message icon and chose Google assistant.
2nd question download this app.... It works perfect and will give you Google assistant but you need root.

Unfortunately, you cannot get Google Assistant to work in the same way as it does on the Pixel without rooting. Downloading Allo does not activate Google Assistant through your Google app, it simply lets use it server-side. To enable true Google Assistant, either root or wait a few weeks. Google has stated that they are officially releasing Assistant on all phones with Android 6.0+ "soon".

You can use Freedom OS. There's google assistant which I'm using. You just need to select it in the Aroma Installer.

Ok not all emui features work with 3rd party launchers but this is plain stupid. Who the f*ck were they asking? Housewives, teenagers, crapple users?
I just saw this. I've been using Nova for years.
I'm still quite happy with the p10, but no 3rd party launchers will force me to buy something other than Huawei.
I saw stories about this as well, but only for the Chinese versions of EMUI. Supposedly in China handsets are sold with third party launchers loaded with adware or even malware. So Huawei wanted to prevent that by blocking all third party launchers. According to this message on Reddit they will bring back the option to make a third party launcher the default in the next update. Also one of the respondents indicates that one can make another launcher the default by disabling the stock launcher in ADB.
