Hi
Got an issue with my new DeX pad. I’ve got a tech 21 clear case of my Note 8. It’s not that bulky but I need to take it off to plug the DeX pad in. Bit annoying. Does anyone know of any extender that could use?
I’d get an a case that’s open at the bottom but I can’t see any good ones and I like the tech 21 case. So annoying.
Female to male type c.

there is solution. You need to mod DEX.

for sure you didn't looked at photo. You can simply remove that plastic part that is around usb connector and move it higher... did you read that?

Yup. Didn't click it cuz I presumed you misread the OPs dilemma.
Click thru Photo reveals that you can indeed remove the plastic liner but I like the extender better because you leave it on and pop it in and out when needed. To each his own...
Thx
The OP posted that he has the dex pad, not the dex station, which makes both options above unusable. Personally, I'm going to be using a USB-C extension cable to solve the problem. Plugging the female end into the dex pad and the male end into the phone. This also gives the added benefit of having the dex pad hidden and not an eye-sore on my desk.

Had one of these from ebay for my vibrant and the phone holder bracket kept coming out so I would retighten the lock screw on the back and it broke the connection to the phone holder bracket
Sent from my Galaxy Tab
Just an update...
This holder is still going strong , well worth it imo..
The holder bits actually pull apart so there are 4 bits holding the tab in place not 2 like in the pics (if that makes sense lol)
Please dont think of this as thread crapping... but why do I see no one talking about the actual Samsung charging holder? Is there something wrong with it?

No it's excellent! A bit pricy here in the UK so I got mine from a US ebay seller. I use it all the time when out driving. It's well engineered and functional. I'll post a pic of it some day....

Got mine via amazon, but i am still using the air vent holder that used with my Vibrant, imo i will not use the windshield bracket as it it will not look good and blocks a lot of the windshield.
Bought one.. Out of stock, Back order. Hope its as good as you say !!!
I hate dongles. There, I said it. I. Hate. Dongles.
With the OTG capabilities and the enormous (relatively) storage capability of SD cards these days, it seemed that using a dongle with the N7 was inevitable. So I took the plunge and got one. But what to do about strain relief and <sigh> that damned floppy dongle getting in my way all the time?
I added Velcro strips to the case and to the dongle in order to keep it in place and out of my way when I was using it. Two wide strips on the back of the case, and one on the front provide more than adequate anchoring so that the N7 can sit on my desk in landscape mode AND hold the dongle in place and out of the way without a problem. It also keeps the mini USB socket from sustaining any damage from the dongle flopping around.
Here's the photos of what I did and I'm very satisfied with the end result.

As long as it works for you admittedly otg cables and dongles are not very handy things, I'm sure someone could come up with an all in one solution that matches the base line of the tablet and looks like a short extension of it.
No luck yet but im hopeful
I have send email and a small drawing to a hand full of connector design companies . Asking them about a ribbon like micro usb connector something that would be very slim low profile.. IF i get someone willing to make them . i will start a thread asking for those wanting a low profile usb otg to buy into getting the minimum made. Its like to be about 300 connectors at 25 cents to 1.00 each... There is a unlimited use for such a plug for this and other devices ..
Just thought i would add it as i see the stressful post .. I have a similar thing for my nexus Its ugly tacky and i do not like it .
Nice pics thou
I did something similar to my Poetic case last night., I just used industrial strength velcro, and less of it. Here's a few pics. I'm at work, and in a low light environment, so the pictures aren't great...

I was tired of waiting for a dock from Google so started looking for a stand that would allow me to plug my pogo charger in the bottom.
I found this Griffin "A-Frame" stand for ipads at a local dollar store for only $3.... I got a few for various places in my home... just need to get a few more pogos.

Does the bottom come up far enough to possibly block the official flap from opening/fully closing?

I don't have a flap to test.... can you explain a bit better... how would it get blocked?

With the stand I have, when the case is completely closed, it can't open:
And when trying to close the flap while on the stand, it won't close fully (sits on the stand itself):
my version
There is a lot of room where it sits on the stand.... maybe 1/2 an inch so a lot of room. I don't see me wanting to open / close a case or cover while it is in a stand.

Any chance you could get a close-up picture of the bottom of the stand where the tablet comes in-contact with the stand?

Does HTC First support wireless charging? If so, which standard?
No, it does not have the induction coil built in, that's a feature not found on many phones besides the Nexuses.

Hmm. I have another HTC First that I took apart and took pictures. I see what looks to be a coil of some sort.
I made a diagram with components labeled. I could not peel the coil off so I can't see how many windings it has. The diagram is attached to this post.

As I was posting this, I had an idea. Could this be the NFC coil?
[EDIT]
The forum seems to like to 404 on attachments, so I'll upload it to an image host. Here:
Oh, and I do apologize about the photo quality. Taken with HTC First, get the idea. This is the 9th take.

I'm sure since the first had NFC/beam capability then could be possible

Considering I've used it, I'd say so. But which coil am I looking at inside the phone?

I don't see what else it could be that would require a coil near the backside of the phone. Nothing else listed in the specs sounds likely.
Hi,
Just been tinkering with a Pi-Top V2 and some cables/other bits and now have a Samsung DeX laptop with a 14 inch 1080P display.
Needs a few more bits before it's more polished but thought I'd post my initial project and will post updates as they occur.
More details on the Pi-Top forum where I describe what's needed to make it all work.
Ok, have added the following enhancements:
1. Dual USB-2 hub - provides 2 x USB ports at the rear where the Raspberry PI middle ports would be
2. USB-C socket - this means no wires come out of the unit - a USB-C to USB-C cable (with 4K video capability) is used to connect the unit to the smartphone
To do
1. See if I can get some speakers into the unit or use extenal pocket USB speakers
2. Alternative would be to somehow breakout the audio from the HDMI signal and feed that to an internal amp and speakers - not sure there would be room for the electronics but will take a look

This is really really great! Can't wait to see how this project develops!
Can you post a link to the pi-top forum? I would like to follow this project too
That absolutely awesome. I was just about to buy an older laptop and gut it.
Details
I have checked out the link on pi-top. You have done an amazing job and appreciate your sharing.
I really would like to build this for myself.
Can you post or send me pictures if you have any from before you threw the insulation tape on? I wanted to get a better look at the parts where you have to cut the usb cable and connect to the GPIO.
Also can you send me the names of the parts you used (part numbers) so I can purchase from Amazon. I have a list made, but want to double check since your set up currently works.
Thank you.
Subbed to this thread. I think I am going to try and do something like this!! I have a dozen or so laptops that are in various forms od not functioning that I can gut.
But that color!
I burnt the pi top screen trying to do this :crying:
