Hello everyone, on my XZ2 I can't record 4K videos. Well, I can, but they stutter while recording, or even freeze up. Sometimes the phone then freezes up too. Some reviewer mentioned stuttering viewfinder while recording videos, but when playing back it stutters too. Only if I disable shake reduction and HDR I have a chance of recording relatively smooth video. Otherwise I experience massive frame drops. h264 or h265 don't seem to make a difference. I've also recorded to the internal memory to make sure it's not a slow SD card causing issues.
It's the first phone this has ever happened to me. LG G5? Smooth 4K. LG V20? Smooth too. Xiaomi Mi 6? Yep. Even with a Snapdragon 810 (!) did smooth videos (I think my Snapdragon 800 based Mi 3 was smoother using Open Camera...).
Basically: WTH?
Also the XZ2 keeps overheating when taking photos. As a result certain features are deactivated, or it even quits the camera.
Any tricks? Anyone else having issues? My phone is a marketing sample, so probably early in the production run, so that may cause the issues?
Same here on 4K recording. No overheat on camera yet. Just went on holiday and took 900+ pics with no issues. Decent quality too. Disappointed with 4K recording capability though.

Hello,
I like the slow motion feature very much, and i use it alot.
The only thing bothering me is the slow bitrate while capturing a 720p 120fps video.
The reletavely low resolution+low bitrate sometimes generates very blurry/noisy videos (especially in low light or when there's a light coming from a lamp)
Moreover, sometimes the focus gets tricky while capturing 120fps slow motion videos.
I wanted to ask if there is some way to improve some of this isuues, maybe switch to ColorOS camera or so?
Thanks in advance

For some reason I get some kind of severe lag when recording video, especially noticable during camera movements but it's there all the time. You also hear the chops in the sound. The problem is worst in 1080p, it's a bit better in 4k. 1080 gets the choppy lags in all 3rd party apps I've tried as well as in the stock app, very frustrating. Changing the bitrate doesn't seem to affect this issue much, it's doesn't get less choppy at lower or higher bitrates (in Open Camera).
Video stabilization and noise reduction and stuff like that is turned off across the board as far as it's possible since I use a gimbal and do all processing in post. And yes the video is choppy with or without the gimbal, it makes no difference for that.
At first I thought it had to to with bad support for the 3rd party apps I use but then I realized the problem is just as bad or worse in the Huawei photo app, which of course produces bad video quality in the first place but that's another issue.
Recording in slow motion on the other hand works fine, cranking up the bitrate to the max and recording in 120fps in open camera with manual focus produces the best slo-mo quality 1080 footage I've seen a phone do so far. So I know for a fact that the phone can produce good quality 1080p footage, I just can't make it work with normal frame rates for some reason.
Anyone else had this problem? Is my phone simply malfunctioning or did I do something wrong? I'm on the 131 firmware version, firmware finder also lists the 131a as compatible, could that solve the issue?
Any help appreciated.

I have this issue in 60fps
When I revert back to full stock it's fluid and works as expected.
Once I've rooted and installed twrp etc plus a few apps it starts to get laggy, I don't use 4K so don't care..30fps 1080p is what I use most and it's perfect..just annoying that 60fps doesn't work as it should..really annoying.
At total stock it should be fine.
I also use a magisk module called swap torpedo which eliminates the use of a swap file, not sure if that matters or not.
Also I've seen this issue present on all firmwares
In which app do u have this issue?

All apps including Huaweis own.
I've contacted support and they say they'll try to find out what the problem is with my choppy 1080 video.
Obviously that doesn't adress the absurdly low bitrate limits and lack of support for advanced functions in 3rd party apps, which are simply limitations of the p20 pro for now, they said they are aware of those issues as well and looking to fix them.

Ok so may have a fix for this.
I'd previously changed device resolution to HD from FHD changing this back fixes 60fps video, it makes sense that it would offer the same for the other issues you've been having.
Check it out its under Display.
About the laggy video, I just looked into this issue and found something really interesting. When choosing full HD resolution and shooting a video, I find it laggy. But when choosing FHD+ 2160 x 1080 p, the video is amazingly smooth. I suspect that when you choose FHD, the phone is doing some downsampling which causes a huge load on the CPU and makes it laggy while FHD+ does not cause such a big downsampling, because of the 2160 width, which is the native 4k height. Maybe someone who knows more can confirm if what I'm saying is actually true. The kirin 970 does not seem capable of proper processing power like it is advertised.
I have te same issue. FHD 30fps is horribly stuttering, while FHD 60fps or 4K are ok. Do someone found a solution to this? It's incredible that the most powerful and advanced camera phone at the moment have this flaw!

Hey, did anyone find another fix for this? I changed my screen resolution and it makes no difference, still getting laggy and choppy video.
Hi guys,
I have just recorded wedding speeches and the video is choppy as hell at 60fps. The audio is fine but video isn't. Any way I can salvage the clips?
Thanks in advance
Hello people, I have my mi9 since 3 days and I really love it. It's a great phone, but today I found wierd bug in camera app. I recorded with 1080p 30fps with stabilization on. After few seconds of recording phone freezes, but audio recording is still going, after a while it resumes. Video like that is kinda unusable. What's more when I'm in camera app on video tab sometimes it freezes just on viewport, without even recording. Does anyone have similar issues? Any help would be appreciated.
Here is a link to bugged videos (I'm new so I can not use link tags yet, sorry for inconvinience):

This may be too late, but I had similar problems with the camera app freezing when image stabilization was enabled at 30fps. In the end I discovered that some sensors were not functioning at all (gyro, magnetic, light and compass); My guess is that at least first two feed info to the stabilization algorythm.
I managed in the end to solve the problem by flashing a xiaomi eu rom from twrp.
I've had the phone for a few days now and overall I'm very pleased with it yet I have one issue. The camera when recording at 60fps at any resolution has crazy flicker. I can record at any resolution at 30fps and it's fine.
I've tried other camera apps on the store but none seem to be able to record at 60fps, open camera for example, won't record at 60fps even when I set it, just records at 30fps.
I'm using the latest eu rom with included camera.
Would appreciate some help, thanks.
Might be an issue with the sensor on your phone. I don't have any flicker with any setting at 4K 60fps.

I just tested my camera - it has no flickering with [email protected]
Whatever modifications that you have made to your phone must be responsible.

I think you're probably correct. Tried it again today and it's working beautifully, I've made no changes or installed anything since yesterday.
Only setting I've disabled since testing was deep process clean, re enabled this to test and it's still working.
Hopefully it will remain working, hard to go back to 30fps video after seeing 4k 60fps.
Ok, so I'm able to replicate the problem.
It's a certain light bulb in my living room that's causing this, it's a 72led corn cob low wattage bulb. Only occurs in low natural light.
Went all through the house at night with the lights on as well as the front and rear gardens and no flicker, only occurs if I have that specific light turned on during the evening in my living room, how odd!
To the naked eye this bulb does not flicker but for some reason makes the phone camera go nuts.
I'll have to check the Hz rating of the bulb.
Hi, i am having the strange issue with video stabilization on my note 9. It started after receiving one of the software updates. The issue is that on certain video resolutions (for me it started on 1920x1080 and 2224x1080 at 30fps) video is cropped and zoomed in as you would expect but the saved video is still shaky. Funny thing is - when i installed Android 10 the issue didn't go away but instead note stabilization doesn't work on 4k and works on 1080 now. I have no idea what's going on and the service center charged me $160 to fix it, but that's quite a lot.
Has anybody faced anything similar?
Can someone please check on your phones if shooting in different resolutions with stabilizer turned on results in different stabilization effect?
