HI All,
My phone has stopped playing all forms of media.
Will not play YouTube, music,video.
Will not record from sound recorder
Will not record video from camera
Will not play startup tmo sound but I get a black screen for about 30 seconds then the tmo logo shows up.
Researched this error an nothing helped.
I recently rooted in hopes that someone can help me out
Been happening for about a month now.
I've noticed that if I play a video with stock lg app the video plays in the background but has the "cannot play video" popup on top and plays without sound.
I really hope it's a software issue an not a hardware
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Check /system/etc and find "mixer_paths_tasha.XML and check the permissions.
Do the same with the other mixer files, make sure to check all boxes in the permissions tab

I'm having a problem playing videos from the gallery app.
I can see them in the gallery, but when I click on them I get a message saying "Unable to play video".
If I try to open it from Astro I get "File type <WHATEVER> not found"
However, if I open Rockplayer it works fine. I'm assuming it's because I used TI to delete the stock video player app (thinking rock would just take over), but I can't say for sure.
Has anyone else seen this? If possible can someone link me to the original video player app so I don't have to flash back to stock to get it?
Did you try clearing the defaults in settings?
Unless I am thinking of the wrong thing (settings > applications > manage) I have the following options that sound like they could be applicable (meaning there might be some I'm overlooking):
com.samsung.mobilevideo
com.sec.android.app.videoplayer
rockplayer
none have any defaults set.
is there a way to just globablly reset the defaults?
problem solved
Go to settings, all programs, gallary setting, clear data, force stop if it is currently running, disable the app, wait for few seconds and again enable the app, on first start it will ask default video player select whatever u want and enjoy.
Problem may be the default vedeo player set earlier is uninstalled by u. Thanx
I am having a very similar issue. I record a video. 30 seconds long. I stop recording tap the image of what I recorded, it opens gallery.- I select to play the video. the video opens. I click play and a grey message comes up (unable to Play Video) the standard played just fine. I made no changes to the phone after rooting and installing custom rom. it worked fine. now all the sudden. it will not play videos. (only videos I recorded on the phone) everything else such as web and youtube work fine. this is not the first time I have run into this the only option was to install a retail rom and everything worked great. this is a Samsung galaxy s5 g900v I have spent over thre hours on google and bind searching for a solution and I can tell you..it would seem this is an issue many people are having. I don't like VLC I like the stock player. though I dont know what it is called but I have this Rom (VZW_BPB1_ODEX_DEODEX_V9) it has no file browser and no purple video Icon. (thats the one I dont know the name of) and I am not sure what this rom uses to play video. ..so if anyone has a solution please post it. I tried the above and they did not work. I also tried solutions that were offered on other sites to no avail.
Hey all need some help here got some mp4 movies that play till 1:11:35 then the video stops but the audio keeps playing. Btw I'm running cm6 black mod stable. Any suggestions?
There's alot of info missing in your post, such as the player you're using and how did you encode your movies. This makes it hard to find a solution to your problem.
I think I had the same issue for a period, but switching players helped. Though I don't recollect exactly. Here's a quick tutorial I put together awhile ago: http://digitaldeverell.com/?page_id=130
Maybe that could help???
Not sure of the encoding, I downloaded the videos they all play no matter what player I use but they all stop at 1 hr 11 min and 35 seconds up until then everything perfect. Could there be any kind of cap or time or MB restrictions? I work midnights with nothing really to do and would really like to watch some movies... thanks...
Oh, btw the video stops at 1:11:35 and the audio continues but when it stops the seek bar returns to the beginning of the movie. The rest of the video is there but it wont play past that time.
Are you trying to 'stream' the video? Try act1 video player ...
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
ive tried act 1, and several others cant remember all of them (deleted) but im not streaming them they were downloaded and work fing on my pc. Tranfered them to my sd card and played them, they all work fine... perfect audio/video until 1:11:35 and then the seek bar goes to the begining of the movie and the audio continues to play as if nothing happened. if i drag the seek bar past 1:11:35 the video is there but it plays audio from the begining of the movie...??? idk im like wtf. i thought about cutting the movies in half sumhow but dont really know how to do it. thoughts?
Well there's only so much cache room allowed, for most apps/ functions.
Is your phone rooted, and what ROM?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Yes, rooted running cm6 blackmod stable.
1:11:35
I am having the same problem here as well. I just went on a flight and encoded five different movies. One was encoded with AnyDVDconverter, the other three were done with Handbrake. The movies converted with both programs worked until 1:11:35.
I have tried a lot of different settings within each program every time with the same results, audio continues and the video pauses. If I seek past 1:11:35 the video will play, but the audio begins to play from the beginning with the slider bar returning to the start as well.
See how this appears to be an issue with the phone and not Handbrake, I wiped and flashed CM6.1 with the same results.
Any thoughts on what else could be done to have proper video playback.
Also, I have tried the Gallery, mVideoPlayer, and DoubleTwist with same results as well.
Thank You for any suggestions.
Solved:
found this solution in the CyanogenMod google code website, sorry I can not post the link
I solved the problem by executing the steps below:
1) adb pull /system/build.prop build.prop
2) open the retrieved build.prop file in your favourite text editor and change
media.stagefright.enable-player=true
into
media.stagefright.enable-player=false
3) adb remount
4) adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
5) adb shell reboot
After applying this fix, I have not noticed any problems with youtube playback.

Hope this helps someone else out too.
That didn't fix it... From what I've found the files have to be less than 2mb due to SD card fat32 partitions limits. Irk.
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA using XDA App
I had the same problem but couldn't find any solution on the net anywhere. There IS a simple, yet unelegant solution though:
Split the movie into 2 (or 3 if it's a very long movie) files.
In Handbrake, look at the total number of chapters. Do one pass for the first half, then another for the second half (ex, 24 chapter total, then do one file with chapters 1-12 and a second file with 13-24). Just name the movies "Title 1" and "Title 2".
Voila. Problem solved.

Hello
I recently rooted my phone and tried a few roms but found most had glitches.
So after some messing about i went back too stock again (BASE-XXJVO/KERNAL-BOJV8/BUILD NUM-GB.BOJV8) and ever since doing that i have been unable too play certain video files.
I will record a video using default or edited setting and i get the same result when i play the file "Unsupported file type" pop up.
Even if i record 30seconds or 3minutes of footage i get the same result when i try play it,even though i can see it recording. At most i have got a couple of files that have stayed on the phone as normal but most record then just come up with a black box in the gallery.Sometimes the file does not appear at all.
Any ideas as too how too fix this,i did try downloading mx video player and installed codecs but that didnt make a difference.
Thanks calz
Get mobo player from market that should hopefully work for you
Insanity cm032/platypus neo9 redux 5
Act 1 video player will solve your problems!
Thanks for the replies.I will give them players a go.
I really think there is a problem with the camera firmware/apk or hardware related and would prefer too find a way of fixing that.
But in the mean time if i can at least get the camera working until that point then its worth a try.
Hello xda,
Now what I am posting today is NOT THE EFFICIENT way of playing YouTube songs or videos in the background but it is effective. This will shouw that youtube background playback is poasible. I hope someone can understand thh logic and convert this into an application or an xposed module at some point.
Step 1 - ask a friend to call you in a while, say 30 seconds
Step 2 - meanwhile open a YouTube video so that when your friend calls you YouTube automatically pauses it for you
Step 3- take the call and press home button in between the call and then just disconnect it
Your videos should continue playing in the background
Again, I am not saying this is a trick or sth. I am just sharing so that someone can use this and actually make it a trick to play YouTube videos in the background.
PS-the currentxposed module doesn't work for me
PS2- I am facing a problem with my phone, for which I posted in the nexus 5 troubleshooting group but no reply as of yet. Could you please give it a look and help me out there. Here's the link

Current YouTube Background Playback doesn't work because it hasn't been updated to work with the current YouTube, yet... You can simply downgrade your YouTube using XInstaller or Uninstall then Install an older version.
Videos are playing on other browsers but not on the youtube app
It shows black screen, audio plays but no sign of video, no error just a black screen...its very annoying
I have changed many and finally have flashed aosp rom which seems to be the most stable rom till now....and am not looking forward to change any roms plz help

A wonderful work by @anaandshailu.
Alternatively you could try this manual method by @-descartes(tested myself it works very well)- https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...m-aospextended-rom-v4-1-t3593299/post72411371
Also, try using the search options once in a while, that will help you with all yours problems, without asking about it to anyone.:fingers-crossed:
