How to overclock - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hi
I want to know how to overclock the CPU,when I use EX kernel to overclock, the hightest option is 2.2G,I saw some one overclock the CPU to 2.2G even 2.3G,but how to do this
By the way, can the GPU be overclocked?

You probably meant that little cores are on 2188 MHz and big cores 2342 MHz. That's not an overclock, these are actual stock core clock speeds.
No way to overclock. Why even do that on a smartphone and SD821?

Most of the times, the answer to that question would be nothing more than: "because I can".

You cannot overclock just any Note kernel. Some don't support overclocking (like Franco), some do (like Abyss).
use odin to flash a kernel like CF or FM, after that your note will toot. Then install app like setcpu . You can overclock to 1.7GHz the Max. Enjoy your GSN !

max frequency depends on kernel. You can overclock with programs like setcpu, tegrak overclock, system tuner pro and etc. But your phone must be rooted
Abyss can go up to 1704Mhz

Once overclocked, I recommend trying a speed test app at the speed you want. If I try at 1700, it freezes, at least if it was warm to begin. At 1600 it seems OK.
Each chip is different, but this method will let you gauge the abilities of your processor. Keeping below any speed that causes problem under load will help prevent CPU damage.

Funny, when I had the ATT model I had it over clocked to 1853 and it was solid.

Dont forget "voltage control" thats a good one.
Overclocking will decrease the lifespan of a processor. For example intel processors easily work a fifteen year lifespan on stock values. On overclocked values this may decrease to five to ten years as not all processors are created equal. I wouldn't worry about it, i doubt you'll even be carrying the same phone after say, three years.

[Q] CPU step on Semaphore?

Hi guys, some times ago I flashed Semaphore, but it haven't any CPU step higher than 1000 MHz. Can I have more CPU steps, like Devil, in Semaphore? (100-1400 MHz)
(Sorry for my bad english)
Download Semaphore Manager from the market. You can overclock using that app. Mind you, semaphore kernel can get glitchy at ~114% OC and up, so you might want to go with 110 and build gradually until you find a sweet spot...

Yeah, I know that, but with Live oc my limit is... 106 % :crying: I have tried every thing but I don't know why the CPU is so limited...
Heh, mine caps at 108%. It would be nice to "normally" oc to 1200mHz on semaphore. I could get 1296mHz with 108% like on Devil.

the "live oc" has better performance of "simple oc" (at equal overclocking), because "live oc" overclock all frequencies and not only the higher frequency.
But with "live oc" you can raise less the frequencies

The only limit is your device. If your CPU/GPU doesn't like OC - you have to live with it (or buy another I9000 :cyclops: )

Theoretically yes, but if you overclock BUS, your CPU, GPU, and RAM are OC'ed. On stock BUS is clocked at 200mHz. If you use LiveOC 110%, you overclock everything by 10% - GPU goes from 200mHz -> 220mHz, CPU from 1000mHz -> 1100mHz. That's why it's more unstable than normal OC.

You might be able to get a higher stable overclock with voltage increase; available in later versions of semaphore, but that's something you'd need some guidance doing, and of course there are the general risks of that.

I don't want to destroy my battery... It drops too much like this, with overvolting it will die in five minutes

Is there any Kernel with CPU OC functionality available?

Hello,
as mentioned in the headline, is there any CPU OC kernel available? I have only found GPU OC kernels but non with CPU OC capability.
Thank you for answer.

Kholks kernel has cpu OC
Whow, what a fast answer
Do you know how high the maximum CPU OC is?
OK, I´ve found it.
Overclocked. GPU @ 584MHz -- CPU @ 1.65GHz(x4)

There is an update coming very soon, possibly today as he's announced everything's working. This new one will be fast as hell and everything will work as it should. The current alpha for stock is OK, just YouTube freezes and reboot just gets stuck so you need to pull battery, other than that its a solid kernel

1.7 is overkill, no app needs it. What is really needed is a kernel that uses cores better and doesn't cut the frequency when full quad is used. This one for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270308

nah, my signature lies as i flashed back to normal stock CM kernel due to the fact that Kholks current release doesnt have wifi, i will wait for his new (or the next werewolf) that has both GPU and CPU overclocked, and then my battery would be F****** XD
and yes, it was a battery drainer

Hello guys
How much can we in theory overclock our cpus? And how do we know that it is safe to overclock at a value?

2,3GHz + 30% = 2,99GHz but there is no one who is such a phone murder like i but when i have a pc with linux i can try 3,4GHz dont know why but i just want test such extreme oc
and you see if its safe on your device when you test it cause most xz1 have another chipset version
ps the kernel with highest freq atm is triinity ultimate kernel by @f(x)THaxxorX which has 2,8GHz oc + 650MHz gpu oc

So it would be possible for someone making a kernel which can oc until 3ghz?
And what about gpu?
Ps yeah I know he has done great job

when i have a useable linux pc (which can take a while) i do something and maybe @f(x)THaxxorX can make something like an extreme edition for those who wanna kill there z1 :silly: would be cool
and i think 650mhz are pretty much, i think its enough for our z1 ^^

In theory you can overclock it as really high, but all chips are built differently and some can OC more than others (like PC cpus). However, unlike PC s, you cannot easily change the cooling on our phones and OC would definitely reduce the life of the phone if it's in constant stress. You could probably overclock it by increasing core voltage but remember it's a phone, not an overclockable rig. Sorry I couldn't give you an exact answer.

One plus 3 overclock to max possible power

Anyone is able to do a kernel ( possible based on cyanogenmod) with overclock support?
If is possible, add the maximum overclock on snapdragon 820...
This will get us more performance and higher benchmark

This +1000
This phone/CPU/GPU handles almost all content the Play Store can throw at it with ease. You may have slight FPS drops with the odd game, but you are not going to rewrite history gaining 4fps from a marginal over clock and even then you'd be better over clocking the GPU not the CPU anyway.
I agree with others. This obsession with Antutu scores is utterly pointless. And overclocks are a monumental waste of battery in the form of heat.
This obsession is almost as annoying as the folk that don't use any apps and wake their screen every now and then too increase screen on time, to then boast that they managed 12hours SOT.

That is false... The storage solution is what makes things Load quicker and what governor/io scheduler youre using. Over clocking is useless and trust me I know, I've over clocked every phone of mine until I realized all it does is cause instability, less battery life and more heating. The only viable over clocking is the GPU.
