Hello ,
Is it possible to set resolution to 1920x1080 for the camera pictures? I want to see them on my LG display. I am using stock , unrooted. Thanks in advance.
no you cannot
1920x1080 are a 16:9 video resolution, not a picture resolution
Pictures are allways shot in a 4:3 aspect ratio
For pictures you can select 8mpixels (3264x2448) or 5mpixels (2560x1920) or 3mpixels (2048x1536) or 2mpixels (1600x1200) or less
Thank you , but I have a photo camera that can shot pics in 16:9 , so i thought that the aspect can be overwritten on this phone too. Some other opinions though?
Maybe if you're willing to install CM7, it may be possible to tweak some files a bit to get the desired effect
George , can you please be more specific?

He means that if you install another rom on your phone you _might_ be able to set the camera resolution somewhere in it.
I would try to google for another camera app in your place. (Have you tried downloading any from the market, maybe some of them can crop images to the right size directly?)
I haven't found one yet. I have tried all camera apps from the market and none of them worked....Maybe someone can help me a little more , please ?
There are no camera apps for Android that can take pictures in that resolution.
Your photo camera that does it, cant really either - all it does is crop the picture afterwards in software, but the picture itself is taken natively in 4:3 aspect
There are no camera apps for Android that offer that option, so we cant really help you with that part.
If you want pictures in that resolution (or rather in 16:9 aspect) you will have to crop them yourself using a picture editor after they are taken. There are a number of photo editors for Android that will crop pictures on your phone, for instance "Photo Enhance" which will let you crop pictures in different fixed aspect ratios, including 16:9 widescreen. You need the paid version to save pictures in high resolution.

Else try and look at some of the other editors - heres a list of some

PS: You can offcource also crop and resize your pictures using a picture editor on your computer and then transfer them back to the phone again after cropping and resizing
I have a camera that takes picture in 1920x1080. It is a Samsung DV150F. They are 8 MB look good on my new TV monitor.

If this is common knowledge, I apologize for the redundancy of this post, however I doubt it, since I searched for a way to do this for quite a bit of time, until I finally found a way.
As you probably know, if you're into photography, the P9 Lite supports Camera 2 API which allows for the capture of RAW pictures in .dng format.
This is especially useful for editing, as RAW images contain lots more information, especially in the shadows and highlights.
While there are several 3rd party camera apps that allow RAW capture, having tried most of them, none even comes close to the stock camera app. They're either clunky to use, or they're ugly as sin (I'm looking at you Open Camera, which is both).
To enable this feature on the P9 Lite is actually very simple, but it DOES require ROOT.
This is how to do it:
1. Ensure your device is rooted
2. Use a root file explorer and navigate to /system/emui/lite/prop/local.prop and open the file as text.
3. Change the value of ro.build.hw_emui_lite.enable from true to false
4. Save the file
5. Reboot the device
6. Open the stock Camera app
7. Enable Pro Photo mode
8. Go to settings and enable RAW.
Happy shooting, happy editing.
Already had that line disabled for other reasons. Didn't know it also makes shooting in RAW possible. Thanks!
I had it disabled for the transparent notification panel, bit yeah...I needed this so much!
Thanks!

Haha, to each his own.
Personally, I dislike the transparent notification panel. I would like to keep it solid black and still have RAW, but hey... I'll take what I can get, and RAW capture is more important.
Cool, https://www.xda-developers.com/guide-enables-raw-capture-in-the-stock-huawei-p9-lite-camera/
Nice, also seems to work for the (Huawei) Honor 6X. Thanks.
My joy at this discovery was short-lived, but then again, isn't that the very nature of joy?
Poetry aside, here's what's wrong.
Shooting RAW, the camera takes one compressed .jpeg and one RAW .dng. However, no matter the shooting conditions, the RAW .dng always comes out blurry and very soft.
I used a tripod, very very fast shutter speeds, in broad daylight and the .dngs ALWAYS come out unfocused.
Anyone able to chime in an maybe offer some insight?

It seems like the default gallery app doesn't render the RAW files properly. View them in another gallery app with RAW support or import them to your prefered photoeditor and they look fine

You're right.
Imported into Lightroom, the .dng is actually quite a bit sharper than the .jpeg.
Thanks muchly!
Thanks, im wating for this a long time

It can read them, but not properly. It shows them really blurry, like they're not focused.
Can you recommend me good raw viewer if you use one?

I don't use any. I open the files in either Snapseed on my phone, or Lightroom on my PC and edit.

Sadly, I'm afraid not. At least not to my knowledge.
raw without pro mode
Just wanted to ask if it captures raw in all the modes like light painting and night and even in just normal photo mode. does it works only with pro mode ?
Please reply.
Thanks in advance.

No. Only in Pro Photo mode.
But you can do light painting in Pro Photo mode with longer exposures and get the best of both worlds. RAW and light painting.
Has anyone tried to import the XZ2 photos to Lightroom? I'm having lots of problems. It seems for some photos it may have lost the 16:9 aspect ratio? Hard to reproduce, since the latest system update a few days ago it doesn't seem to happen anymore. Not sure if I'm going insane or if it really happened.
Then there's another elephant in the room: Lightroom Classic CC seems unable to read the date tag in the EXIF data? Never had this issue before with any camera I've ever used. But other programs can read the EXIF data? It's all very odd. Photo orientation seems to be interpreted wrongly too.
Am I the only one having issues? Now I'm using a third party tool to rename the files according to the EXIF data.
Btw., it's very annoying that every time you move all photos to your computer the counter is being reset... I know few cameras that behave that way. For good reason.
Switch to 4:3
Then you get 19MP
16:9 has only 12MP or 17MP
It's not that easy. With 16:9 you get a wider image, with 5500 pixels instead of 5000. So in scenes where you want to capture as much of a landscape (for example) as possible you'll absolutely benefit from 16:9. Also, the MP don't really matter. I wish the sensor had a lower resolution.
I've found the solution to some of my issues... Lightroom has problems when it keeps importing files of the same name, and the XZ2 keeps resetting the counter to 1...
Personally, I just realized that even taking photos at 40mp with the stock camera a high compression ratio is applied without any criteria. I took several identical photos and realized that some have a size of 15mb and others were with 3mb. Photos identical with the same settings. I tested other applications and encountered the same problem. Lightroom CC and SnapCamera. Here comes the surprise! With cameringo+ I got files with a bigger size at 40mp. That it would be the right thing to do to others as well. Please take a test and comment.
I sent my phone in for a cracked back repair and got a loaner from a friend,. While taking pictures I immediately noticed how much sharper the telephoto lens on the loaner is.
Here are some examples - left photo is my original phone, right photo is the loaner:
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
These are all taken with the stock camera app with identical settings. The only interesting thing I've found is that there seems to be more jpg compression as seen here - all settings are the same but the file size is smaller. Almost looks like OIS isn't working.
I don't see any discernable difference in quality when shooting with the pro camera app in RAW or RAW + JPG, and jpegs from the pro app have the same size as the normal camera app.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Hey! I am sorry you are going through such an experience with your 1 II. Doesn't seem to be worthy of the price you've payed for the device, and i doubt it is a software issue.
I would suggest to copy your message here and send it in to Sony officials, but maybe instead of the loaner, mention that those are the pictures your phone took before you gave it in for the back repair and after. This might sound a little unethical, but at least you won't be ignored in terms of provide of service.
