B300 - stuck - can't upgrade, can't downgrade - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

I upgraded from B163 via B182 to B378 and then I flashed with Resurrection Remix N v5.8.5 However I decided to rollback to Marshmallow. I used EVA L09C900B300 Rollback package and now I completely stuck with this firmware! I' not able to upgrade or downgrade! I tried everything: B163 or B182 by dload method VolUp+VolDw+Power (SD as NTFS and also FAT32) and it stops on 5% says error incompatible software. I tried Huawei Updater 2 and HiSuite with proxy and it even B378 have been find, download and install but P9 reboots and verification process failed... and after reboot I'm still on B300.....
Seriously - I've no idea what to do..... This is my 2nd day with P9 firmware issues...
Any ideas guys ???

Every few days another user reporting the same problem - nobody dares to read XDA and previous posts/threads in this same sub-forum, until bricking the phone ;(
Never, never, never flash different versions of stock ROM (including rollback) over custom ROMs.
If you had b378 before RR, you had to go back to clear b378 first (this can be easily done by HWOTA), and only then opt for rollback, OTA, hard reset, relocking bootloader -never do it over the custom ROMs (specially over AOSP ones).
Sorry, don't know now, maybe you can still unbrick now by b378 by HWOTA....

I'm just casual Android flasher.. I make those changes like one time when I get new devices... My P9 was B136 when I flashed NewWorld rom (only one available back then) almost 2y ago and I did not followed all threads here. I flashed also my other devices (Samsung, MotoG5, LG) and I never had problems like with Huawei!! Their firmware policy or upgrading rules looks crazy and complicated af! Seriously - I just finished a Docker app project and it's an easy cake compare with Huaweii. I just don't get how this works. Why I can't flash my P9 any firmware (for P9 of course) I want ? Like I had to back to B136 then B166 then B182 then B378 - and during that process I had problems all the time. Like when I was on 136 system didn't detected any available firmware. I had to flash oeminfo-c432 then B182 update showed up... I installed and again - no update available. I had to update via Huawei Updater and HiSuite via proxy and custom roms... When I was on B378 I couldn't update to any latest... I wanted back to B136 to go through all that process again and understand but of course I messed up because for some reasons I couldn't just flash B136 like first time....
Anyway I was able to install RR ROM again.... I don't know how as this one required Nougat and EMUI 5.x and I rolled back to B300 but here we go......
Seriously - this Huawei firmware thing is one big mess!!
Guys - if I want back to full STOCK 6.0 or 7.0 whatever - what I should download - which file exactly and how to flash (TWRP, OTA ??) I just want to make my P9 up to date with Huawei latest firmware - that's all

I think this will help:https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/help/how-to-revert-to-stock-rom-t3407132:good:

Is your bootloader unlocked? If it is try manually to extract update.app file with Huawei update extractor, and flash (boot.img, system.img, recovery.img and cust.img). Didn't try it on my P9 'cause it's still with locked bootloader, but this procedure helped me many times with other Huawei phones. If your BL is not unlocked try official or unofficial method with DCUnlocker or SigmaKey from manufacture or fastboot mode.

yes I got still my bootloader unlocked even I rolled back to B300.
I was able to back to stock B386 Without update extraction and all those magic. I downloaded stock B386 update.zip and data.zip. Have to format data partition from TWRP. Then I flashed update.zip and data.zip and reboot into stock recovery. Then I wiped out cache, dalvik and restore factory. Voila I'm on stock B386
Of course I wanted to update to latest (B398??) and of course I can't...... lol... I basically reproduce all above steps but no... during install update.zip I get errors. When I try dload method I stops at 5% with error... Why build-in updater doesn't shows a latest firmware available to update ??? I had this isssue almost every time - I was able to update via phone OTA just from 136 to 182. Other updates I installed via Huawei Updater and HiSuite and proxy or dload or TWRP...
What I need to do now if I want update from B386 to latest ? This is crazy..seriously.

I have many issues when phone was rooted. Last year I flashed back stock recovery, relocked bootloader (keep unlock code at safe place lol ), and updated trough stock recovery, after that in every couple months ota updates arrived. Right now B397 (1.may 2018).

I sorted out all those problems finally and I'm an idiot because I tried to OTA without SIM card inserted Well... actually it's not so obvious but yeah.... I was on B368 and with SIM card inside it found a B391 update but it failed during install (because my unlocked bootloader I guessed) So I rolled back to MM using B300 rollback package and from B300 to B182. My bootloader was locked on stock B182 and from there I was able to update via OTA to B502 by EVA-L09C432B182 -> EVA-L09C432B210 -> EVA-L09C432B386 -> EVA-L09C432B391 -> EVA-L09C432B502.
On B502 I unlocked my bootloader again, flashed TWRP and currently downloading MagicRainbow v4

3. restart your mobile and please note it ll factory reset so make sure u backup what u need.
4. then download B132 firmware file http://www.carbontesla.com/2015/09/download-huawei-p8-lite-b132-firmware-dual-sim/
and extract that file.. ull get two files keep it. we gonna need it later.
5. fully unroot ur device
6. restart
7. copy that dload folder which we got from B132 to ur internal memorry or SD card
8. go to settings--> updater ---> check local update and install
9. thats it after some time ull get a b132 build p8 lite..
10. check for OTA upadtes and immediately u ll see B170 update with 300mb file
and kindly note i have done this on my B150.. and it works for me without any error

Hi,
My friend many many times I wrote this!
You can flash everything firmware with proper location! All of these firmware like B170, B524(Beta 6.0) is for Eu region exactly hw/eu
So what is your region tell me first then we flash all firmware everything you want.
How to view your region:
Call this number
Code:
*#*#2846579#*#*
3. Network information Query => 4. Vendor Country info

No, I mean you need to change your location to hw/eu (For EU firmware) or unicomelectric/cn (For Chinese firmware) for successfully upgrade firmware
I reccomend these firmware:
For hw/eu - B190 or B170(this is dual SIM variant EU)
For unicomelectric/cn - B230 (Chinese)

oh. i see now. ok. cant give other usefull help, but google translate (the site if wont work the add-on). it translate wery well from any language to english. i have it implemented in browser (via add-on ... so it translate at one click if its necessary)
Here you go:
1. Download the following file: oeminfo-eu to the phone and using ES File Explorer replace the original file with the downloaded, strictly following the path /dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name
2. Restart and do a complete WIPE to the factory settings
3. Download the archive C432B052 and perform a downgrade to B052.
After the restart - do a wipe to the factory defaults again.
4. Start the phone again and the OTA update to B170 should be immediately available. You should now have a device with "hw/eu" region.
Check it by dialing *#*#2846579#*#* in the dialer application and in the engineering menu go to:

thanks a lot for your informations
Well i got this phone like 2 days ago and i convinced my self to try the marshmallow update mostly because battery dies fast (in case of differences with marshmallow battery management)
My firmware was b170 (L21 dual sim model) and i tried to update to b188 first. The weird thing is that the bootloader was already unlocked and i got it new, but anyway i said just in case of graphical bug i will unlock it one more time (ive seen many things so i unlocked it just in case). My issue though is that i did everything correctly. added dload folder and the b188 update. When im trying to update it, its goes on 8% and then it stops with error.
Things ive done so far
I unrooted it and now im trying to downgrade it so i will update it again to what it is now and hopefully it will let me lock the bootloader .
any other suggestions?
PS: How its possible this phone came with unlocked bootloader?

i used the Downgrade-C432B052-ALE-L21 zip which had a script in it and it did the trick.
Then i updated through ota to b170

Is there a Nougat Build for L19C900B190??

Hi all,
I'm running a Huawei P9 with a build number of L19C900B190. I am not rooted, bootloader locked. Having an insane time trying to find a way to upgrade from Marshmallow to Nougat. I can't find any other C900 firmwares, so is it impossible for me to upgrade? In my desperation I have finally resorted to opening a new thread. Which regions received the C900 firmware? I am based in Singapore.
I understand another method i can go is to unlock my bootloader, root my phone, flash another oem firmware like C636 or whatever and then upgrade to Nougat. However I am trying to find a method that can keep my warranty intact as my device is just a few weeks old. If anyone can point out a firmware i can flash Nougat for my phone type via the dload method, I would be really grateful.
Hi,
Just sharing my experiences with you.. I had the same problem as you. Tried to flash C636B190 firmware from stock firmware (which is customised by Starhub I guess Cause build number is L19 C20B150 and I can't find any info for C20 build) and end up having C900B190 installed. Regardless of how many times I reflash, build number stay with C900B190 instead of C636B190. Although I had the B190 build, but fail to install Nougat update via Hisuit.
You can try to use Hisuit and PC to update to Nougat, see either it will fall at 1% or not. No harm will occur on your phone.. I tried many times. After giving up, I just send the phone back to service center and revert back to their original firmware.. And to wait for OTA.
Good luck...
I ended up sticking with the C900B190 FW as it's a pretty stable firmware for marshmallow. I've read around and with some help, found out that only way to go to nougat is to debrand to a C636 FW and then upgrade manually.

"Software Install Failed" When updating P9 Plus to L29C636B362

Hello!
I have a P9 Plus that I wish to update from Marshmallow (L29C636B170) to Nougat (L29C636B362), but I am unable to because I keep on getting this message when I try to update...
http://i.imgur.com/2m7sV4I.jpg
"Software Install Failed!
Failed to check the update package.
Please download the package again".
I have tried using different firmware versions like B320 but the same error appears.
This phone used to have a custom TWRP recovery, but was returned to stock, and I fully unrooted my phone. I then use the Huawei Updater to send the package to HiSuite and find the firmware using Firmware Finder. I still have an unlocked bootloader however. Am I missing anything?
Cheers,
mechasnyper
Try relock the bootloader.
How do I relock the bootloader? I tried using fastboot oem lock to relock but it says that the command isnt allowed.
just simply force update dload of update.app if you are in B170 then use update.app of B170 and force dload by push 3 button same time
Okay, it seems I have solved this question with the help of Mostar088 and itongx. Special thanks to them!
The first problem was that the firmware I had was to old to update to Nougat. I had to install L29C636B202 using HiSuite. This updates the firmware to B202. Updating to B202 makes it capable of upgrading to Nougat. So, I then install L29C636B370 to my phone using HiSuite and Huawei Updater. So far, I'm loving the update and none of my files were deleted, however, this doesn't mean you shouldn't back up.
Cheers.

Install b182 (still MM) and you should then receive OTA upgrades to b38x, b39x (Nougat)

I still don't understand why you don't 'like' OTAs. In System Update, Settings, you can always choose Full Update instead of default Differential. And you can force afterwards Factory Reset if you think you need.
b386 is the last flashable by DLOAD. Btw, I was going back and forth through diff stock and rooted and custom ROMs, rollbacks, OTAs, and never had any error in installations. There are many threads with excellent info and guides, you must read and follow because in diff situations methods might be different. DLOAD is not always applicable

Mate 10 Pro Unable to update firmware OTA or using eRecovery / FunkyHuawei

Hi
I'm unable to change the firmware on my BLA-L29 C432 B142 May security patch (rebranded from C636 about 6 months ago).
Checking OTA just says 'no updates available' and if I try to update via FunkyHuawei using eRecovery it downloads but after 'verifying' it moves on to 'recovery system running' and then errors with the message 'recovery failed' when it gets to 1%.
I've tried quite a few things to try and get something to move on, but it seems like I'm stuck on an old version of firmware and no way to change it. I need a new plan.
I've tried (with lots of factory resets and wiping cache inbetween):
- OTA updates - always says no update available.
- Via FunkyHuawei:
- Reflash same firmware (eRecovery fails during 'recovery system running')
- Reflash newer or older firmare in same region (eRecovery fails during 'recovery system running')
- Change region, reflash newer or older firmware in same region (eRecovery fails during 'recovery system running')
- Use unbrick tool to flash same or different firmware in both same and different regions (unbrick tool completes but firmware version always stays the same in about phone, the android security patch date changes though, but eRecovery won't let me reflash anything afterwards as eRecovery fails during 'recovery system running')
- The last OTA update I got was C432 .137. When everyone else was getting .145 OTA I got Firmware Finder to move me from .137 to .142.
Has anyone got any ideas on what to do next? I don't want to be stuck on the same firmware version and security patch forever.
Other than the FunkyHuawei rebrand about 6 months ago from C636 to C432, the phone is standard (no attempt to unlock bootloader, root).
I was thinking of:
- Unlock bootloader using DC unlocker (from what I've read this might still work as I'm on B142 which has a May security patch)
- Flash TWRP
- Flash a custom ROM
- Try and restore back to stock
- Possibly rebrand back to factory original C636 as there seem to be a few threads about rebranded phones not getting updates promptly, but I can't see anyone else who is getting eRecovery failing no matter what they do and no way to change firmware. I have already tried rebranding back to C636 via FH, but can't, as eRecovery fails at the same point when trying to flash the C636 firmware.
Funky should always work to update, check that DNS is correct when you enter that test site.

This will work. I have downgraded and tested it
You could do this:
Get unlock code
Unlock bootloader
Flash TWRP (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/development/huawei-mate-10-pro-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3769904)
Download firmware update.zip, public and hw zip from http://pro-teammt.ru/firmware-database/
Update to the version you want using HuRUpdater (https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279).
You will stay bootloader unlocked now though, but the rest is stock.

The DNS is fine and I can load the test sites, eRecovery gets info and downloads the firmware labelled "FunkyHuawei" and the size is around 3GB. After taking a few minutes to download, the eRecovery moved on to 'verifying package', that completes, it moves on to 'recovery system running' and after it gets to 1% it says 'recovery failed'.

I will try this, anything to get me out of the hole I seem to be stuck in as all methods I've tried so far rely on eRecovery. Thankyou for all of the links.
When using HuRUpdater does it have to be in the same region, or can I rebrand at the same time?

HuRUpdater can only handle same region updates as far as I know.
You can use HWOTA to rebrand, but mankindtw (original author) has since edited the thread as he thought his tool bricked devices. But it was firmware that caused it.
And I can't remember the exact steps... You have to flash twice though, first to rebrand (example C636) and then to update to the same rebranded (C636) firmware.

You could use FHRebrand tool, but it will change your bootloader unlock code so you'd have to use HCU client (DC-unlocker) twice to get it.
Also, before flashing anything, check xloader with this tool: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/beware-bla-l29c432b147-t3817241
For now, stay on XLOADER 01 firmware. We don't know if Huawei will change to 02. Going from 02 to 01 will end in a hard brick.
B142 is 01 so you're safe now
Thanks to your advice, I have a plan now. And good to know about the xloader stuff, that could have ruined my day.
I'm going to:
1. Get bootloader code [update: done using dc-unlocker, confirmed working on C432 .142]
2. Flash TWRP
3. Put same region and slightly downgraded version of firmware on to a USB and flash with HuRUpdater (assuming it needs to be put on a USB OTG stick as the M10Pro doesn't have an SD card). I intend to use the downgraded version so I can see the version successfully change in "about phone"
4. Rebrand using FH tool (if there's less chance of bricking than HWOTA) and keeping an older firmware
5. Hopefully it works, and [after getting the bootloader code again from dc-unlocker in case I need it in future] I will be able to update via OTA to latest official firmware
Hopefully starting again completely will overwrite whatever it is that's getting me stuck.
Thanks to @ante0 I got out of the hole I was in.
From what I've tested, there seems to be an inability to update OTA from a rebranded BLA-L29 432 running 137 or 142.
Here's what I did.
1. Unlocked bootloader, flashed twrp, flashed downgraded 137 version of C432 with hrupdater. Success. No offer of an OTA update though so still stuck on old version.
2. Ran FH rebrand tool to change region to the factory original C636. eRecovery failed at the same stage as before. Fail.
3. Kept region as C636, unlocked bootloader and flashed twrp again. Flashed April version of C636 firmware using hrupdater, twice. Success.
4. Immediately on boot up phone offered to update OTA to the latest version of C636 firmware. Success.
It seems that the phone wouldn't offer an update OTA if on rebranded C432 and running 137 or later, but did offer OTA when it was back on C636. I live in Europe, but will keep the 636 region if it means I get OTA, else I can't pass the phone on.
Now to relock the bootloader so banking apps work. Plan to use the fastboot relock command followed by dc unlocker relock tool. Hoping not to brick at the last stage!
