Is it possible to recover data after doing the wipe from recovery ?
Have you already make nandroid backup from recovery?
If already then you will be able to restore data.
If not then say you wouldn't able to restore it easily

I don't think. Try android data recovery software to scan your xiaomi mi 5 to see if the wiped data can be scanned out or not. If yes, you can get them back easily, if no, it's impossible to recover the wiped data.

Hi Guys.
I haven't worked much with CWM so far and couldn't find a proper answer in the threads here.
When I do a restore from a CWM backup I've not seen an option to choose just data or apps ... so I suppose the whole system including the rom and kernel will be restored. right?
As I'm happy to have CM 10.1 running after all finally, I'd just like to restore the data (SMS, etc.) from a CWM backup. Is there a possibility to do so?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers
I don't think you can do that. I used titanium backup pro to restore only the apps+setting to do that.

Ok, thanks. Should have thought about it before.... Sometimes fingers are faster than the brain.

You can do an advanced restore and just restore /data but it's not recommented to do this coming from stock and restoring on CM I guess...

Stock and CM use different bases, and therefore restoring data of Stock can bring over some incompatible data/apk's and this can and most likely will cause a bootloop, from reading i think i can establish the safest way when your changing Rom's is to full wipe and 'clean' install. However when going from nightly to nightly this is not needed, and some data can be restored between same android version Rom's, for example CM10.2 is 4.3.1, data may work on slimbean 4.3.1.
Hope this clears things up for you.
I would also suggest to do a clean install without data recovery. If you want your data you can use Titanium Backup for App data. For the other personal stuff you can make a backup to your PC..

CWM Recovery, URGENT REPLY!!
I faced this problem that my rom got stuck on boot image, so I had another custom rom zip in my sdcard, so to install that I had to format my phone, now I have that backup and I only want to restore system settings, apps, app data, my data(sms, call logs and stuff), I dont want to restore the system or anything else which will make it get stuck on boot image again, now which choices shall I choose in advanced restore to restore only these specified items?
Please reply urgently as I have to travel in a few days and I wont be able to do it over there.
Cheers
I have been using Alliance Rom for about 3-4 months and there has been no problems so far.Last night i was browsing the internet and all of a sudden it restart and got stuck at the Gt-N7000 screen.Tried restarting the phone and rebooting it from recovery but failed. Is there a way to flash alliance rom again and still get my data back or do i have to wipe everything and flash alliance again?
My phone was bricked

If you flash alliance ROM again, without a wipe, the data will stay intact. And if you can enter recovery, the phone isn't in a brick for sure. In this case you can even take a nandroid backup and i advise you to do so ( take a backup in the backup and restore in recovery). Try flashing alliance again or else copy the data to your computer, I'm sure the phone is detected on the PC isn't it?!
I can enter recovery but do i have to wipe data before flashing alliance again?

Make a nandroid backup, wipe, flash rom again and after that you can restore apps and data from nandroid backup using Titanium Backup or other app with this functionality.
No, u can skip wiping data as you're reflashing the same ROM that you're currently running. But you ideally should wipe data for smooth functioning of the ROM, so you can also get a nandroid backup as i said and then restore the backup apps with titanium. Anyway just reflash the ROM without a wipe and it should work fine. Do check the alliance thread if they recommend a data wipe while installing the ROM everytime.

Do i have to do any formatting?
No formatting nothing whatsoever. There's never a need to format before flashing ROMs.

What i meant was formatting the preload, system and other stuff.Must i do that?
No need. Visit the thread on the Alliance ROM once and confirm
Actually u don't have to flash a new rom again if u have a sudden shut down n this is quite common nowadays
just simply go to recovery n do a backup if u afraid of losing ur data... after backup check is it successful backup
n then do a factory reset wait for 5 to 10mins once able to start up completely then go to recovery again n restore backup
choose advance restore n there will have some option !choose restore data will do..
once u get used to it there's nothing difficult.. i'll suggest not to do any previous data restore n those
corrupted data will bring back the bootloop issue...

Well after i backup my data,i reboot recovery and check if it was a successfull backup.Fortunately it was.I factory reset my phone and switch it off immediately after it was done. The next day when i switch on my phone, the bootloop was gone!Waited for it to finish loading and once it booted up,i realised all my data was still there(my wodgets and apps)(Its a good thing for me).Its so weird because i remembered doing a factory reset the day before.Any idea what happened or how?

Sudden shut down most probably caused by high usage of RAM.
Bootloop might caused by maybe a 1yr old battery or different kernal, oc/uv n system task killer, flashing different rom
with backup n restore.
if u flash all the different developer's ROM in XDA n do a restore data u'll get ur answer "bootloop"
u can find philz fix bootloop but that's not really a solution.
try to uninstall unused app n unused system app to relase some RAM for heavy user.
when u flash different ROM try not restore backup data.
i don't think i can help much cuz we don't use the same ROM.
if u think ur ROM or Data still got issues u can test it by pulling out the battery during screen on.
pls don't try becuz i believe ur ROM n data not clean enough to take this action!
My phone will currently not boot bast the CyanogenMod boot screen.
I flashed my phone several months ago to CM10.1 It was the update that patched the "masterkey" bug. I have been using it daily since then with no problems.
Today, I turn my phone on, and it just hangs at the boot animation.
There were no significant changes since the last time it was powered on. I think I installed McPixel from the humblebundle, and uninstalled a game from the playstore called Krog. No setting changes of any significance.
I've tried booting into safestrape and deleting both the cache and the dalvik cache, neither has helped. My stock rom still loads just fine, but i had factory reset it quite a while ago. I do have a backup of the rom from about 40 days ago i can try restoring, but i would love a more nondestructive way to fix this.
Try booting into safestrap, wiping system, cache, and dalvik, then reinstall the ROM and gapps.

0.o wouldn't that be a LOT more destructive than just restoring the old backup?

Nope. You are not wiping data so all your apps, setting, etc will still be there.
the data itself will remain if you just wipe the system, cache and dalvik cache but be sure to reinstall the latest stable build of CM and gapps for it

ah gotcha gotcha...
unfortunately it didn't work.
for troubleshooting's sake, i went ahead and made a backup of the rom in it's non-working state.
i restored my old backup, it boots just fine.
restored borked backup (tested it, still won't boot), wiped cache/dcache, wiped system, installed cm-10.2-20130821-NIGHTLY-maserati.zip and gapps 20130812, wiped cache/dcache again for good measure, then reboot and waited 10 minutes, still won't pass boot logo.
so i figure someting's wrong with Data right? so i rebooted to safestrap and did a factory restore, then wiped cache/dcache, and still won't boot.
so now i'm going at it the opposite direction. restoring the working backup, restoring just the data from the nonworking backup, then upgrading CM/Gapps
rebooting.. and....
blank screen with full backlight. not so much as a CM logo.
i guess for now i am going to restore back to the old backup, update the rom, and go about reconfiguring, unless anyone has any more suggestions?

Yeah, definitely sounds like something in /Data. Only other possible option I can think of would be to use Titanium Backup. It has an option to "Extract from Nandroid backup". It's under the "SPECIAL BACKUP/RESTORE" options. I've never used that option before so I have no idea how or if it would work but might be worth a shot.

wonderful idea, unfortunately TB crashes when i point it at either backup.
buuut i did find Nandroid Manager * ROOT which looks like it might be working.
if you really wanna see if it is the data or not have you tried to
flash 10.2 or whatever you started out with... then restore -just-
the data to the freshly flash system and then do a wipe of all
said caches... I do that sometimes to get a fresh start on my
os itself.. works pretty well. Just do not restore the cache just
the data part. Or restore with MD5 checking... if it doesn't check
out then you know for a fact that the data partition in that specific
nandroid isn't any good :/

If you did a factory reset, there's probably a good chance that all your stuff is gone. I really hate to say it, but all that stuff is stored on the physical memory of the phone, and without an SD Card, it all gets wiped.
Thnxx sir...
Sir yesterday i tried to rrstore my previous backup by using data recovery wizard in windows...but when i tried to restore the backup from recovery it shows "checking md5 sums md5 mismatch"...then after trying a lot it says restoring boot and restoring system...but after it says restoring data failed...then when i rebooted phone the my touch was not working...phone got stucks at lock screen...
So is there any way to restore data from my backup using windows or any other method using recovery....

Hi,
somehow the software of my galaxy note got damaged. I didnt install new firmware or anything. i just wanted to shut it down but i think it freezes already there. so i took the battery out. but when i start it it gets to the samsung boot anmation and crashes and restarts again.
i can reach the phils kernal and also bootloader. i hope i can do a custom flash to fix it without that i have to wipe it and reinstall anything. which part i have to reflash to fix that?
if you can reach the recovery, then make nandroid backup and wipe data and cache and dalvik and finally restore your cache and data (or you can reflash using odin and then restore data and cache).

Thanks! Tried it but I think the backup wasn't created correct. I couldn't restore data and cache.
well I used a some months old backup. had to update a lot and to do changes but it works now.
so I will create an actual backup now.
