Not happy with the performance of the P8Lite - scrolling is jumpy and often freezes for a few seconds. Facebook app definitely makes it worse, but even after removing that, the phone is still really slow. Has anyone else noticed this, and is there a solution? I expected better performance with the specs that the phone has.

Secure all apps and settings with the internal backup app.
If your phone is not rooted, do a factoryreset. Then everything should be fine.
This phone truly sucks right now. If anyone hasn't bought their phone yet pony up a few more quid and get the Xiaomi A1. It kills this, even just playing with the two at the store you will notice the difference.
Im gonna keep this and wait for the new lineage. In the mean time factory reset still did very little for my insane lag on B182 update. I have a GPS watch and LastPass going in the background so maybe I'm a bit too much of a power user for this budget/mid phone but the ONLY thing I've found that has made it slightly more bearable is to goto DEVELOPER options and shut off ALL animations. You'll probably get a 30-40 percent speed boost on your lag.
This phone run perfectly.
My P8 has become slow over the time. Swiftkey starts to be laggy during keypressed, fingerprint unlock sometimes dosnt work and i have to wake the phone pressing the power button, scrolling has laggy peaks.
But making a backup with HiSuite and doing a factory reset gave me back the snappy phone i had.
So, i think we just need a factory reset over few month to maintain the phone snappy as he is,
I had to play with Huawei's optimizer app but my phone runs really smooth. (I have small lags/crashes but it's very rare)

Tell me about it! For a supposedly custom CPU and THREE GIGABYTES of RAM, this thing is pathetic.

Same problem here. This phone becomes slow after a couple of days of uptime. Another issue I have is that it also freezes when toggling between portrait and landscape display. Rebooting the phone helps a bit, but the problem kicks back in after 1 or two days...
p8 Lite 2017
I got my Huawei p8 lite 2017 over a month ago. It was fine for the first few days but has become very slow. Last night I had to make a phone call at the airport. The phone app didn't even respond quick enough. I selected the person to phone and waited over a minute for the app to make the call because it was lagging.
Other than that:
- As a developer, my apps run fine when debugging.
- Music streams fine.
- Chrome runs fine.
- Youtube runs fine.
- Camera lags too much for quick photos. When opening the camera app, it freezes for about 30 seconds before it becomes usable.
- Rotation lags and you can see how the screen redraws.
- WhatsApp lags allot.
For a modern phone, this surely is a step in the wrong direction.
Cheers.
I have the same problem with mine. Barely 2 months old. It worked great until the last couple of weeks.
Now pretty much any scroll or swipe action results in the phone freezing, a transparent copy of the screen at the point of touching remaining, while the actual page underneath scrolls 'normally'.
These can last a couple of seconds or minutes. Then, you try doing something and it happens again. It does this in any app, homescreen, settings etc.
At times it is almost like screen tear as well.
RAM manager says I have always got 1gb+ remaining. I rebooted, it did nothing. Uninstalled some newer apps I'd got, did nothing. I backed up the phone and factory reset it..... It worked..... For about an hour or two, then it started up again.
Screenshots do not capture it either like I hoped it would.

I've been using the Pixel 4 XL for over a month now but lately there's a lot of scrolling lag. Especially on Google feed and Play Store. It doesn't matter if 90hz is forced on or off, it stutters and lags when scrolling and it's very unsightly especially when trying to show off against iPhone users who want to check out my phone. Other than that, performance is excellent.
I'm running 100% stock with the January update.
Anyone else facing the same issues and what could be done to alleviate or completely resolve it?

I know this is extra, but I factory reset my phone after every new update. I've done this for the past 10 years of owning smartphones and i've almost never encountered any sluggishness or lag.
If your issues still persist, RMA. When a factory is churning out hundreds of thousands or millions of a product and each product itself is made of hundreds of tiny electrical components, it could just be something defective. Sorry about your luck but I hope factory resetting fixes it!
Yeah I would do a reset because I have never owned a smoother phone.
I haven't done factory reset and it's been perfectly smooth here. I used to do it once a year but I didn't need to with my 2 XL and probably won't need to with the 4 XL too.

Besides a random restart that hasn't happened twice, this phone is ultra fast doing all the every day things. Have never experienced lag on social media, YouTube, emails, web pages or any of the things you've mentioned. Maybe a reset is in order and it the problem still persists, warranty repair cause something is definitely wrong.
Well I factory reset the phone and the stuttering is almost gone. I guess it's normal for the play store and Google feed to lag a bit as it renders images/videos?
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
I get a little lag in the play store when I'm scrolling the main page (with pics and videos), but not really anywhere else. So far, this phone, like the last two pixels I've owned has been very smooth. I typically only factory reset when going from an Android beta to the stable, or if something isn't working right during the betas. I DO clean my phone and restart twice a week. I use SD Maid (rooted) to clean cache and such from system and apps. That works really well. If you're not rooted, unfortunately, most cleaning apps won't clear all app/system cache data. Anyway, something to try.
I've had the 4XL for almost a week and find some lag when unlocking the phone. The colour on the wallpaper will stay black and white for 1 second and then normal.
Also find swiping down for notifications will lag too after unlocking. Running stock, rooted with active edge mod and a font mod, ElementalX kernel.
Anyone else experiencing this? I mean it's not a big deal, maybe a reset and run everything stock to see if it continues.

Perhaps it is something to do with the mods and kernel causing lag? Try a factory reset like I did and see if that fixes it without getting rid of the mods.

So I noticed it's the way I have my unlock process. I didn't have soli on when coming to pick up the phone for automatic detection. I liked being able to just check what songs playing on the AOD without it waking up while picking up the phone.
For the last few days I turned soli back on for that particular feature and no more delay or lag.
On my Verizon Note 9, not rooted. Holding down the power button doesn't help. I have to hold the power and vol down key to reboot phone.
Has anyone else had this issue, or have a solution?
Try booting into Recovery Mode and wipe the cache partition. If that doesn't work. Then I would manually reinstall the stock OS back onto your device as there is a chance something went wrong during the OTA installation process.
n960f exynos, im also experiencing random freezes after android 10 update. Once-twice a week. First screen doesn't show any updates, but i can feel haptic feedback, so i presume everything works underneath freezed screen, and shortly after that phone freezes completly( with screen still on) , only holding down power for 30sec seems to helps.
Unfortunately clearing cache nor fresh odin flashing of full firmware helped. I noticed it is happening while phone is warm from charging or just plain using.

N960u, not a single issue with 10. Been using it since beta. So maybe the exynos version has bugs
Nope, Op has a Verizon phone...
That's US only isn't it?
Maybe Canada...
My Exynos Note 9 hasn't had any problems since I updated to 10 either but then again, different set-ups may cause different issues...

I'm in the US (Michigan), and have a snapdragon version.
So the question is, anyone with an Exynos Chipset experiencing the same problem as this may indeed be a Snapdragon related problem( with this, admittedly limited, sample it seems so)...

Maybe. All I know now is I'm beginning to regret updating. At first my phone was fine. But after a few days, it's sluggish. And to let me know it's not just an isolated problem, my wife's S-9 (on a different carrier) has begun to experience the same issues as my Note 9.
I swear, if it wasn't for the S-pen, I'd have gone over to Apple by now. Android is just one headache after another.

Well.. After march security updates, random freezes stopped.
I've had soem performance issues from day one with this phone. It is the ATT version. I'm having issues with transition animations, either hanging or really slow and choppy. This does happen all lthe time though. After the update for March the phone ran really good , even though the battery seems to not last as long. Now in the last few days, couple of weeks after the update, I'm back to slow transistions. I've already factory reset the phone once since it's initial set up about a month ago. From the Samsung Members app it seems other people are having this issue. Has anyone worked with Samsung about this issue? Thanks

Do you have all of the Developer option animations, set to 0 and have "Reduce Animations" turned on under Settings/visibility enhancements?

I'm just disappointed that a smartphone should do this new out of the box, especially these days. Top of the line smartphone shouldn't be doing this.
Do you mind adding a short screen recording to show us what the lag/choppiness looks like, how severe it is, and exactly where it happens? Without that information, we won't be able to give you too many potential solutions.
*Edit* - Granted, what @BigMosley had said works great! But if you still want the animations, just do the first step that he listed but change all of the animation timings to "0.5," which'll make em' twice as fast! That's what I've always used even though I feel that it is also nice without any animations. No animations might make my phone use during my work day more efficient . Oh, and to clear that up, I'm a tech guy and so I often use my phone for work shtuff (rd, administrative sites, status checks of different crappolas, etc).

I agree with this 100%. Animations were created 10 years ago to hide jank in Android - which doesn't exist anymore. especially phones that are this fast nowadays. Animations do nothing but slow the device down and increase battery consumption. It looks so clean, snappy and cutting edge when you take off animations completely.
I'm trying to get video of the lag. The phone will start lagging, I'll start the screen recording, by then it stops lagging.
new development. still having intermittent lagging issues. transition animations turned down to .5x. the new thing happened tonight. on my way home for work I was charging my phone. I stopped at a gas station to pick up a couple of things. I left my phone in the car connected to the charger. my cigarette lighter has no power when the car is off. when I turned the car back on my phone started screaming at me to unplug it because it has detected moisture in the charging port! This phone has not had any water spilled on it, dropped in water ect. I haven't opened a support ticket yet. but after the continuing system lag, no this charging error. I just have a lemon for a phone. so disappointing.

It may be a 3rd party app(s) causing issues including AT&T and Samsung bloatware.
Did you do any firmware updates?
If you did any major ones, it's factory reset time.
Otherwise start by clearing the system cache and doing a hard reset.
If it's running warm with poor battery life something is sucking cpu cycles like a digital vampire. Not uncommon on AT&T variants... but fixable.

W O W ! ! !
my lord, i have been experiencing the same exact phone lag (s21 ultra ATT) all starting about one week ago after a recent firmware OTA download. It has been driving me mental. The entire feel of the phone is noticebly slow. Sometimes stalling even just on a simple Google Search.
So much so I am now doing a factory reset along w/a stock firmware flash to see if I can roll things back to normal.
If anyone else notes the same issues and or fixes, please do share.
(firmware on now G988USQU2AUB5 - LAGGING)
I know Google updated their app a few days ago and my phone went balistic. They issued an immediate patch with fixed the crashes but speed still suffers.

Doing firmware updates as soon as they're released is asking for trouble. At least wait a couple weeks to see if they are causing issues especially if your phone is running well.
Google system apk/app updates have a long history of screwing things up but at least you can easily roll them back to factory load versions.
My AT&T Note 10+ is still running on Pie and many of the Google and some of the Samsung apps are still the factory load versions. It runs fast and very stable. No forced reloads due to malware, ever.
If it is a carrier app that is causing this choppiness, then that would make a lot of sense. Since I have the factory unlocked version of the phone, mine didn't come with any carrier apps (and I also removed most of the built-in Samsung bloatware apps). Perhaps this is why I don't have this problem.

I've already factory reset the phone once, about 2 weeks after getting the phone because of the issues. It's been pretty much lagging since I've received the phone. The phone to it's usual update when I got the phone, took a large update this month, 450mb. Is hate to factory reset the phone again to try and fix this. The phone is not running hot or bad battery life.

You can take it to a Samsung Experience Center at Best Buys stateside. They can do more in depth diagnostics and can reflash it as well.
Let AT&T know of your fun... they are actively -partnered- with Samsung and are involved in all aspects of the phone's software/firmware.
No joke.

Hello,
My M21 says it is up-to-date, but it isn't and I can't figure out why. I've even gone so far as to do a full factory reset, and still it won't update. The factory reset was the last option I knew.
Alot of google-searches resulted in the feeling that this is an isolated case.
Samsung Switch on PC also says the phone is up to date.
All my colleagues (it is a company phone) have the same model, and they have all received the updates long ago.
I've added screenshots of the software-information it is showing.
If anyone knows a solution to this, please let me know.
Thanks for any replies or clues anybody might give.
Lol, if I was you I would disable OTA updates!
If the OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission... let it be! Upgrades can and do break things.
No rollback from 11 as it upgrades the bootloader version too. Let that soak in; it's a one way ticket once punched Mr Wick... consequences.
Android 9/10 best, Android 11* so-so, Android 12* is a mess... in my opinion.
With Pie and higher you are protected from the worst rootkits. Unless you do something stupid security and malware won't be an issue.
*do you really want cpu cycle sucking scoped storage fully active? Some apps like the old free version of WPS Office will most likely not load.
I was actually hoping that the update would fix some of the inconveniences I've noticed since I started using it.
Things like:
Random restarts while the phone is doing nothing, needing me to enter the PIN for both SIM's. Like in the middle of the night. The alarm still goes off in the morning, however it goes of at max volume... Or in the middle of a run (i use the phone for sports tracking), causing me to lose the workout data.
Random disconnects from bluetooth devices
Sometimes slowdowns for no apparant reason
Incredibly slow camera
This is a company phone, and before this I had a personal Nokia 8.1. Transitioning to the M21 just feels like a step back. It's slower and has more buggy behavior. I was hoping the updates would fix it, because rooting is against company policy.
And this is apart from the security updates that haven't come through since october 2020, while all colleagues with the same phone did get those updates.
And I'm also just curious why this one says it has the most recent updates, while it clearly doesn't. Whether I choose to install those updates is another matter. It just doesn't give me the choise.

That's not a stable load. I don't blame you for wanting to ditch it if that's the best it can do.
I never get random reboots or the rare crashes I see seldom require a reboot.
Make sure global power management is disable and that a 3rd party app isn't the cause.
It's possible that the firmware is corrupted; a reflash to the same rom might be a safer option.
Or you could try flashing the next OS version up... avoid 12 though. Lots of reported issues across the board with it, and lots of people doing rollbacks to ditch it.
This will probably get time intensive.
