Hi, I've just owned an XZ1c and I am super happy with it. One thing bothers me about the battery consumption of dark/black vs white/bright wallpaper. My old phone has an AMOLED display so it is obvious to have a full black wallpaper to save the battery, but how does it work on XZ1c ? I am not an expert in display technology so I would like to hear your opinion. Is black/dark wallpaper more battery-friendly on XZ1c than white ones or they have the same battery consumption?

In a LCD screen, pixels are ALWAYS on (when the screen is on obviously), even when is black. So it won't matter.
Dany is right. In LCD the light under pixels is always on. On black color screen the pixels are just fully closed to cover the light below.
On really big screens like TVs it's a little bit more complicated but we're talking about <5" screen.
Thanks guys, such a relief that I can set a full white wallpaper without sacrificing more power.

I recently compared my 4 month old Galaxy S-AMOLED display with a recently bought one.. There is visible difference between the maximum brightness in both screens. The newer one looks brighter with better colors when compared to my older Galaxy S. Both are GT-i9000 international version, and I used similar images to compare the screens..
Does the Super AMOLED display deteriorate with time? Also please tell me if this will covered under warranty..
It does deteriorate quite quickly. Especially the blue pixels. Not keeping it on high brightness levels helps the screen deteriorate less quick. And I'm not sure but I had read somewhere that when it comes to "burn in" if the effected area is greater than 8 pixels then you can replace it under guarantee.

Yes every lcd screen would die one day but Super AMOLED dies with burn in faster, but still would give you 3-5yrs of life.
On daily basis keep the brightness to low or lowest when you need to brighten up put finger on notification bar & slide it to right (bright) slide it to left (dark).
Hope this helps you to get more life from your lcd.
thanx a lot guys.. will go for warranty and let yawl know how it goes..
Hey everyone,
i have an interesting question about hd7 LCD: are the pixels black or white when voltage is applied? In a "normally white" LCD, the screen will be white if no voltage is applied to any of the pixels. In contrast, a "normally black" LCD will be black if no voltage is applied.
Does anyone know which mode of operation HD7 use? Is it a function of being TN+Film, P/MVA, or IPS? it would just be nice to know.

Just curious byt why would this be important ?
are you applying that because of so...the light or dark theme might be more suitable..depending ?

many factors . HD7 seems to use a TN + film display . Unlike the iphone 3GS which is using IPS LCD
1) battery life
in Normally "white" LCDs , no power is applied to display white, Black consumes power
in Normally "black" LCDs , no power is applied to display black, White consumes power
2) Screen protectors
I have no concrete research on this but certain screen protectors for wp7 phone may display better with white theme/ black text because screen protectors with a textured matt screen tend to blur white text. Like wise the opposite is true for screen protectors which are non anti glare
3) longevity of screen
of course when no power is applied to the screen for display of white or black , yr screen is less likely to burn out faster
I had HTC 7 Pro and now Titan. Both SLCDs, as I assume the HD7 is also. When I had the 7 Pro I looked in to this and got the impression white would be the correct answer here. I looked in to this because of the theoretical battery save. I never tested what is the real difference though.
On amoled screen the natural state would be black.

I believe TN display and SLCD is different
SLCD is more power efficient, has deeper blacks and contrast and it has a few types like IPS , ect

Yes you are correct. I was on my mobile yesterday and didnt look up what panel HD7 has, I only assumed it is the same as 7Pro and Titan, but its not.
Only the trophy and HTC titan/ titan 2 uses SLCD.
the rest use TN display + film
If i am, not wrong , though the newer upcoming Win 8 phones may use SLCD 2 or Super Amoled HD
Good morning guys!
When I set my brightness to all low I get purplish Grey colors, is that normal? Anyway I'm going to shop some moto x's today at mall to see if they behave the same way.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, normal. I believe its just cuz of the amolded screen. I've noticed same thing first night I bought it brand new out the box.
Sent from my XT1055 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Normal I think to a certain degree of course.. The phone comes equipped with a Super AMOLED screen which displays pure blacks. The screen is basically off when its displaying black that's why a lot of the menus and active notify is black to reduce power consumption.
I've read in some reviews that the screen behaved like this, with purple in Grey areas.. But I was wondering why Motorola would do that in their top shelf phone, when the brightness is on the minimum value it's a clear purple color when I drag the notification bar down in the messages app.
Idk maybe cause I'm outside but the notify bar is black to me. Maybe you got a lemon

The bar is black but the shadow it makes in the background when you start dropping it is purple in mine.
Could be.. Looks a little bluish purple to me too that's just the screen I think. The nexus 5 has a LCD IPS screen they display true blacks like the iPhones.
My X has the same purple color.

That's probably the only benefit over the X.
I dig the super Amos they are power savers and durable. Screen quality is adqueate enough to be high end its a 720p Samsung panel IMHO it's good for the phone and its makes features possible.
I'm coming from an iPhone 5 and the moto x has waaay deeper black than the iPhone, everything is really gorgeous on the screen except for that purplish at low brightness levels. I personally prefer low brightness at night for eye comfort when using the phone lying in the bed. I'll try to take some pictures and post up here for a comparison.
Anyone else with this purple color too?
When the brightness is either all the way or almost all the way to the minimum, my Moto X and Droid Maxx both look this way. I just don't use auto brightness and keep it bumped up until it's no longer purplish.
Just shopped some phones today at mall. They all had the same purple color at low brightness. This was such an disappointment for me, I really loved the screen but this ruined my experience a bit.
So I was playing around with my settings and decided to give battery saving a whirl. The first thing I noticed was the completely backwards design of the UI color language in this mode. Considering the N6 has an amoled, it was perplexing to find that batter saving mode used a bright orange theme instead of a black one. I would have thought the screen technology would have made a black theme a natural fit. Is anyone else confused by this decision? Is there a setting I am missing?
Haha you definitely have a good point. Designer probably slapping himself in the forehead. I guess the thought behind it is that making it dark wouldn't apply to all phones since some use lcd panels plus the bright color is a warning to remind you to charge your phone
This feature on Android is for every phone, not just exclusive to the Nexus 6. Other phones that utilize a IPS screen doesn't need a dark background.
Although, you do have a point, it is odd that Motorola chose a AMOLED screen over a IPS when Lollipop is "white" and white uses more battery than blacks on AMOLED screens.
Hi all
My other half has had a oneplus one for a few weeks and wanting something with the same horsepower but a little different in design I went for the Z1.
I find the Z1 quality in colour reproduction and brightness to be lacking compared to the Oneplus one both running CM.
Anyone care to comment ?
Please see the link below for some quick photos I snapped Z1 on the left , oneplus on the right

Many Thanks !
Hey,
adaptive brightness and livedisplay has been off right ?
I checked my white Z1 once against a white iphone 6 plus and couldnt see much of a difference.
Against a black sony z3 compact the zuk z1 display is a bit more greenish .. the sony z3 display is pretty cold.
one tip, dont compare the ones to often. i once bought a used iphone 4s where the display has been swapped ... it freaked me out so much that i had to sell it because ive always seen the difference.
in normal day usage you wont see a tint.
edit: did you compare the devices without a screen protection? those can have quite an influence.
did u tried to configure your display in the settings? u can set the level of blue red and green colour
Yes, I think that`s literally the only major drawback of the Z1, the screen quality is really not too exciting. Make sure to color calibration in COS, my screen was way too yellowish before.
I have 2 Zuk Z1 devices. The oldest one has a better screen (same system, clean install).
Hi thank you all for your responses.
Adaptive brightness and live display were off.
I started playing around with some colour calibration to see if thing will improve.
Soulripper that would explain a lot of they switches panel supplier .
As you can see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zuk-z1/help/batch-screen-t3336418
I could obtain a satisfying result by playing with colour calibration, but it isn't as good.
i compared the iphone 6s plus of my brother with my own z1 and found my z1 display has warmer colors then the iphones. with livedisplay day 6800k it has the same color like the iphone display.
Thank you all ! I have been playing with the live display option and things have improved.
Also I have stopped looking at other phones
