MATE 10 Pro + Netflix + MirrorShare+Samsung Smart TV - Huawei Mate 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi.
I am trying to use MATE 10 Pro + Netflix + MirrorShare+Samsung Smart TV to watch movies on TV .
The subtitles and sound are ok but there is no image. The M10P has boot-loader unlocked.
Any advice to solve the problem is welcomed.
Thanks in advance.

Smart TV's usually have built-in netflix (especially Samsung). Why are you trying to make it harder by using screen mirror?

When I go to a place where is a Samsung smart tv without internet connection I have to use this way. It is an example. But the main idea is that on Samsung phones work but not on my M10P. And using Netflix on my Samsung 40F8000 means no romanian subtitles.

I guess due to the netflix antirip protection, it doesnt let you watch on tv to avoid people from recording netflix content.

I don´t know, but if it works its because Samsung guarantees the content protection and probably huawei doesn't or not yet.

Mirror all apps?
Generally, not. You can try mirror4cast but it doesn't work on all devices and from the video seems to lag heavily.
Google is working on Android device mirroring (the beta is available if you have a rooted Chromecast), but no guarantee it will be supported on a wide variety of devices - we'll have to wait and see.
Spotify, Dolphin Browser, Samsung Dongle
Only apps which specifically support Chromecast or can Share to a Chromecast-enabled app will work with Chromecast. Chromecast is not a replacement for a HDMI output.
Think of it more like a video output accessory that works for supported apps.
If you want to see everything from your device on your TV, one of the many wireless output dongles like Samsung AllCast Share, will work better for your purpose.
Chromecast is an autonomous device (so its output is not limited to the device's screen resolution, nor does it require another device to remain on, unless content is being sent from the other device).
See links in my signature for more info.
Hi

Screen mirroring will work as long as you are using a KitKat ROM and Mirror Enabler installed (needs root). The latest version of the Chromecast is supposed to have experimental screen mirroring for ALL KitKat devices, but I haven't tried this out personally. Performance of the mirroring will depend mostly on your connection speed.
Personally, I hardly ever use the screen mirroring, it just feels clunky. It's much better if the app you're using supports Chromecast.

Because there is no way to sideload anything into the unit...It has virtually no place to put apps.
CCast is really just a glorified Chrome Browser when you get right down to it. When you cast something to it, It loads up a webpage (player/receiver app) that has the code to play the content you sent. That is why it requires internet connection to operate because it needs to be able to access those URLs to load it's player apps.
I doubt the CCast even has enough storage space built into it to run Kodi.
It's very different from a FireTV which is basically just an Android stick device with a Amazon branded Launcher.
If you want Kodi you are better off with one of those cheap AMLOGIC 905 Android boxes. You get a remote, can expand the storage capacity with an SD Card, and get a full Android to run any APK you want including Netflix and Hulu. If you shop around you can find them for just a few dollars more than a CCast costs.
PLUS most units are compatible with Win10 Cast To Device feature.

Yea, was thinking of my tv, which sideloads just fine.
With that said, there is apparently a reasonable way to cast kodi, though still seems just screencasting.

Your TV probably runs AndroidTV which is very much like FireTV in that it is running a full android operating system with a custom loader. Unfortunately even AndroidTV has some limitations in the Play Store of what apps you can put on it which is why it hasn't sold very well.
Not that you can avoid it these days, but I advise my friends to ignore all the smart features when buying a TV and just look for the best bang for buck on resolution and picture quality. If you want a smart TV it is much better to buy an external box which can be upgraded easily without having to wait for the manufacturer to catch up to current tech.
There was a time where you could get a great TV sans any Smart capabilities without paying the SMART TV premium but today just about all TVs have some smart built in. They rarely get updated, Rarely get the same support as native Android does and eventually that processor will be too slow to run the latest and greatest software.
TV can last years and still work but how many have an Android device that is over 5 years old and still useable?
I say find the dumbest TV you can find that has a great picture and add whatever smarts you want externally!
They are even selling TV mounting hardware to hide the box and wiring!
Thank you for the input, getting my old Nexus 5 setup to be the streaming device to cast kodi to Chromecast.

Does the N5 have an HDMI output? (I think it does with an adapter...
You could just plug that into the TV and add Kodi to it. Then use any Kodi remote (like the Official or Yatse) to control the device from your current phone.
You wouldn't even need the ccast then.
Yup Hdmi compatible I just have to order a cable with charging capability on it

Was it simply plug & play, or did you have to do anything?
I assume it only outputs at 1080 resolution & 60hz to the television...?
Yes it natively went to 1080p and 60hz for me. I do not have a better tv to try it but simply plugged it in and watched some movies.

How about Netflix downloaded offline content? Hard to find information about it. The idea is to use the cable to Connect it to the phone that is displaying downloaded netflix content.
Yes, as long as you connect it via USB c to HDMI it will work as a secondary display

HDMI and Data
Hi all,
Can someone please test what happens if you use the side USB-C to output HDMI and at same time connect your phone to your PC for data transfer / ADB ?
I was not able to achieve this using Samsung S8 / S9 with the USB-C to HDMI official adapter.
Many thanks!

Well that's kind of rude. Especially if someone ends up having issues with that port. I get that it's best in most cases to use that port, but you shouldn't be forced or limited to it.

Yeah... +theoretically using that port without the fan attachment voids the warranty I think since it clearlt states not to use the side port by itself : /(I might be wrong on this and it might only state just not to use the orange part ; p

Separate category for Google TV chromecast 2020

Can we have a separate category for Chromecast 2020 ? The device is fundamentally different from previous versions as well as it has actual android TV/Google TV
I would agree with that. Chromecast 2020 is likely to generate great interest
I agree as well, this is a combined device that may need to be kept separate eventually to avoid confusion.
I agree as well, maybe calling it Sabrina Dongle

Android TV is currently what its known as, as this will get phased out with the new UI version Google TV.

When I hear "GoogleTV" I think of my 10 year old Visio CoStar which I became very aware that it was abandonware about 6 months after release. I think Google bringing the name back was foolish as AndroidTV didn't have the stink of abandonment on it and was slowly (very slowly) getting more recognition.
Android TV with Google TV luncher , Google TV on Chromecast, branding and confusion all over the place.
IMHO the best name for the section would be:
Google Chromecast 2020 (Sabrina)
No confusions here and addresses every part that identifies this device specifically.

I absolutely hope not. Google TV UI sucks compared to Android TV. It's basically just a clone of FireTV... which the whole purpose is to sell you ads. The whole thing is setup like a gimmicky interface to make you accidentally click on crap you didn't intend for.
Edit- i take back everything i said about the chromecast 2020. i dont know what the hell was going on the night i set mine up. it was terrible. slow, and half the apps i tried to sideload wouldn't work. the next morning, without doing anything- just left it plugged in, it now works amazing. it does everything my nvidia shield does (even usb support with a Y adapter and hub). of course it wont play games like the shield, but thats not what i wanted it for. there is FINALLY an affordable alternative to the shield. this thing is by far the best Kodi device value wise. if you want gaming, get a shield. otherwise, a chromecast 2020 will do everything you need. the video quality is very good too. the shield with the AI upscaling and crazy good video filters is still better, but its a very close call.

Not confusing at all, Chromecast with GoogleTV, but it's not a Chromecast, Chromecast runs an unnamed and unknown version of Android/ChromeOS, "Sabrina" run AndroidTV 10 and GoogleTV is only the launcher, because the GoogleTV OS died in 2014.
So, this device shouldn't be in the chromecast section, but in the AndroidTV.
It is actually this Chromecast section that seems out of place, as it itself is under Android TV.
