Wi-Fi problems - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Has anyone been having Wi-Fi problems with their phone as I always get an exclamation mark on the Wi-Fi icon but other devices to my Wi-Fi is perfectly fine. Any idea if it's related to the new firmware?

That happens when I connect to a WiFi network but the exclamation marks disappears after a couple of seconds. Does this happen with other WiFi networks other than your own?

I have this issue ever since oreo. Worked fine on 7.0 but I get this exclamation mark when it's been connected for a while.
Strange, if I go back to 7.0 it's fine so definitely a software issue

I had exactly the same problem. Even without the exclamation mark my wifi were super slow
Solution
Change the security of your modem, if is "AES" or "TPIK" change to accept both, "TPIK/AES" and that's it.
Hope it helps

Wifi doesn't connect well

Is anyone else having issues with wifi connecting? My issue is that wifi doesn't always connect, and the only way I can usually get it to connect is to restart my phone. So I have my home wifi saved in the phone and when I leave it obviously disconnects, then when I'm back home I have to restart my phone in order to get it to connect. My work wifi has even more issues and it doesn't always connect from a restart. Is anyone having this issue?
Yup see my post in this forum, i have issues with my home cisco ap. I need to use a wifi fixer app just to stay connected.
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
Mine has worked perfect so far. Have connected to several networks while at home or working.
Mine is working great too. I am getting better signal than my Razr M, and compared to several other phones I have owned, the M got wonderful signal!
I got it in red just in case anyone is curious. Most complaints I have seen seem to come from those with ballistic nylon, which was the deciding factor in buying it in red.

Magnum , which app do you use? i'd like to try it. But honestly at this point I think I'm swapping out the device...I don't see anyone else that has this same issue as me where I have to restart for the wifi to work. I did a factory reset and thought it fixed it but nope it disconnected grrrrrrrr. Luckily we can swap out within 14 days.
Oh and mine is red too and I still have issues
I am so sad. I factory reset, didn't help. I went to Verizon store and swapped out for a new phone. It connected to a random wifi by the store so I thought woohoo it works. It connected at home. Then I got to work today and its having the issues again. It won't connect unless I restart the phone (and even sometimes restarting doesn't help). I'm at a loss. I'm so sad because this is the only phone that I want that is out right now but if wifi doesn't work then it is completely and utterly usesless to me. My only glimmer of hope is that the case (verizon one that has the kickstand and the belt clip) is making the wifi act all wonky, so I took the case off and lets see what happens. Fingers crossed!
Did you disable the "Avoid poor connections" option? I found it wouldn't let me connect to a lot of networks on my old Razr M, so I disabled it immediately when I got this phone.
These are my settings, and I haven't had a problem.
Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but it appears to have resolved a weird issue I was seeing. Specifcally, I would see "old" Wifi SSIDs in the list that were not available anywhere near me. For example, I just traveled 3 hours away, and I was still seeing a router from the 3-hour-distant site. Only the phone saw it... my computer, for example, confirms it's not real. It would just show up as a "ghost" in the list, and never disappear.
I checked the post you had, and saw that I had disabled most of the items... except "Wifi Notifications" and "Scanning always available". So, when I disabled those, and then turned off/on the wifi, the ghost SSIDs disappeared.
In related news, this issue may also causing one of the routers I used to always show "Saved, secured with WEP" and yet it would never connect. It was a real signal in the area, and my laptop connected with no issues... but the phone would refuse to connect, even if I forgot the network and reconnected with the WEP key, etc. I'm hoping this fix (disabling the above two items) will fix that as well... but I won't know for sure as I'm 3 hours away from that router now
In any case, thanks for the posted pic... it helped me identify and fix the problem... hopefully this can help others, too!

[Q] Wifi only working after reboot when switching from mobile data

When I enter my home, my Moto X 2014 automatically connects to my Wifi. However the wifi connection then is marked with an exclamation mark, no internet access is possible. After rebooting the Moto X the wifi connection works fine. I am running Android 5.0. Is this a known problem? Any hints on this? Thanks!
It's a known lollipop bug as far as I know.
I have a similar problem, when I come home I also have an exclamation mark on the WiFi symbol but still have connection to the Internet, but can't connect to my chromecast.
The fastest solution for me is deleting my rooter, and reconnecting. (It's faster then rebooting.)
A bug similar to this one happens to me at work, where we need to authenticate to the wifi network once per day, via browser. I get to work, the wifi icon shows at the status bar with the exclamation mark next to it, and the authentication page doesn't open in the browser until I go to settings and forget the connection, then connect to it again, when I open the browser after that the authentication page opens normally.

[Q]Suddenly losing WIFI connection when phone is idle

Hello.
I am using my I9000 for a good while now and i am running cm11-20150901-SNAPSHOT-XNG3CAO3G0-galaxysmtd. Everything was running fine so far, but suddenly for some days now, the WIFI connection somehow gets lost when it's idle.
When this happens (and i don't know on what timeframe it does) and i activate the phone (pressing the home button) the WIFI symbol is either shown and then disappears or is already gone - but then after some seconds comes back and WIFI is on again.
Yes, i do have the setting for standby WIFI on always, so this should not happen.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem here?
Also i do have a fritz.box 7390 which supports a 5GHZ network - does the I9000 support a 5GHZ wifi? Maybe it's the router that's causing the issue an switching to the 5GHZ might fix it - but so far i could not see the network when it's on 5GHZ.. So i guess it's not supported but thought i might ask anyways...
Thanks!

wifi keeps searching

hi all. i am on android 6.0.1 build 23.5.A.1.291. My problem is that my wifi keeps resetting and searching. i am traveling so its not my personal router that is an issue. my tablet and laptop connect to the same routers here without issue but my phone tries to connect various open connections but immediately resets all connections and starts searching for them again. occasionally it connects for a second. the same issue occurs if is set my tablet as a hotspot so i doubt it is related to the available connections. also for some reason i don't seem to have any advanced options anymore to tell the phone to sop scanning. Any help would be much appreciated. so far I tried turning airplane mode on and off as it seems have started at the airport, reset all network connections , general powering down and up etc. nothing seems to work.
hey, i know this post is quite old yet i only found it now facing exactly the same issue. it all started at my parents when phone was suddenly not able to connect (exclamation mark on wifi icon in status bar). i restarted router but it did not help. when i came home i faced the same issue. both routers are different, different provider, etc. before the weekend all worked fine so not really sure what happened. not the phone (z3c) keeps searching for wifi, displays the list for a few secs and searches again.
i tried what was suggested in other topics, like here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/help/wifi-issues-z3c-marshmallow-fix-t3390859
or
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/help/wifi-randomly-disconnecting-575-t3435244
but nothing helped. now considering to re-flash the latest firmware. trying my luck here before i do so.
current sw on 23.5.A.1.291
update:
1) i tried to repair the phone using Sony Companion .. did not help
2) flashed it with the latest sw .. did not help
in both cases sw version was D5803_23.5.A.1.291_1288-5411_R12D. when phone starts for the first time it shows wifi networks. but just for a while, that it starts "searching for wifi networks..". when i select my wifi network, fill in the password and click connect it says "failed to connect to network". i can already see on the background that the phone is again searching for wifi networks. if i try to connect at the right moment network is saved. but then it does not connect. or sometimes it does but "checking connection" takes ages and wifi symbol in top bar keeps appearing and disappearing. at the end it shows error message "could not connect to internet".
what could be the problem?

WiFi connection problems after update

Hay guys,
I am really at a loss, so I hope you can help me here.
WiFi on my phone works totally fine until I install the EMUI Update 10.0.0.185 (and later).
From that point on, I can't use my WiFi at all. The Phone is still showing me a list of all the available Networks, but If I want to connect to one of these, the phone's WiFi turns off by itself. Just du turn itself on again a few seconds later... and turning off again eventually.
This happens to all of the WiFi networks, I've tried. Also I can't setup a WiFi hotspot anymore or use wireless display feature.
If I reset my phone to the EMUI-Version it came with, everything works flawless.
Any idea, what could cause the problem?
