Very odd behaviour.. 2 voices at once. - Android Auto General

I'm using android auto in my 2018 golf and have a Oneplus3. Last few days if encountered when I activate assistant and tell her to text "name" she will say her typical ok what do you want to say?.... while I'm in the mode of saying my message I get a totally different voice that says ok text "name" what do you want to say and it just messes it all up. It's like it's two instances of Google assistant running. Two totally different voices. Any idea what's going on?

Google Now not talking back anymore

For some reason the Google Now is not responding with Voice anymore.
I have the English US as language and Google Now set to Always Speak.
Does it work for you?
Also very often I receive on search messages like "Can't load search results" and "Retry"
My device is rooted and S-Off not sure if it matters.
Getting exactly the same behavior. No speech at all, and much more frequent errors when I search (about 1 in 5 times I get a "Can't display results' type screen.
I have a stock standard Nexus 4, no root.
I have tried changing language setting to English US, always speak is ON, volume is up, etc.
So annoying...
It started to work again after changing the language from English US to something else and revert back to English US, text to speech to Ivona then back to Google, Google now off then on, always speak to informative and then back to always.
After doing all these it started to talk back.
Unfortunately I did all these at the same time so I don't know what exactly triggered the "fix". Or maybe nothing, maybe was an issue with Google servers...?
Don't really use Google Now but tried it today and it wasn't working, kept showing me a 'Retry' message and had no speech output. So maybe this can help.
Have language set to English US. I unchecked the Search on Google.com local domain setting from Google Now > Settings > Privacy & Accounts. Works fine now. If I check it again, it stops working obviously.
I have that unchecked, too. Maybe this was the issue.
But I'm surprised in the past the talk back feature worked only with the Google. Com serves and not with the local ones.
I have another problem, but similar.
My Asus Transformer TF300TG talks when I ask "who is..." or something similar.
But anything location based? No.
When I ask "Do I need an umbrella?" It shows me results for it, no card, no talking.
When I ask "Where's the nearest McDonald's?", it again shows me search results, no map like before.
When I ask "Do I need an umbrella in Belgrade?" then it speaks.
So I thought my location services are off or something - no, they work just fine. And when I turn on Google Maps, my location is right there.
I think it started when I was at my brother's in Bosnia... the clock started tripping there... for instance, I say "Wake me up in 4 hours" and it sets the alarm in 3 hours, like it's thinking I'm in another time zone, while the clock is set normally and works normally. I think since then, since I came home, it's tripping...
Anyone any ideas what to do?
I repeat, anything non-location based works fine.
Getting Google Now to Talk Back on HTC One M8
In order to have Google Now talk back I went into Settings > Language & keyboard > Text-to-speech output > Google Text-to-speech Engine > Install voice data > English (United States) > Female (high quality). After the download completed and installed Google Now speaks back to me now.

[Q] Changing the "Google Now" voice, possible?

I'm a big fan and user of computer generated speech, have been since oh, the early 1980s when S.A.M. first appeared for the Commodore series of computers, and it's been nice to see the progression from that truncated truly "computer sounding" speech to what we have nowadays. In my opinion, the best "voices" yet created are produced by Ivona and my favorite at the moment is the Amy British female voice. Just something about that Brit accent (and yes I know it's not an accent, I'm just saying...).
Anyway, I'm using the Ivona Amy beta - Ivona's Android voices seem to be in a perpetual beta going on 2+ years now, go figure) and it can be assigned as the default voice for most everything in Android: turn by turn navigation, reading eBooks, etc, but for some unfathomable reason the default voice used for Google Now is still the rather crappy robotic sounding female one. It's not bad, mind you, but it most definitely ain't Amy, not by a very very long shot.
I've done some research but unfortunately every time I use the search terms "Google Now" and "voice" - even with quotation marks in all variations - all I end up finding is info about Google Voice for the most part and no actual mentions or info about making any installed voice data usable as the replacement for the voice you here when you use Google Now.
Yes I'm aware that Google Now has several different voices to choose from, from different countries, but it does not "see" the Ivona voice installed nor is it something I can apparently force into action.
Does anyone know if switching out the default voice with Google Now is even possible? I'd love to use Amy as the default one device-wide for any and all text-to-speech purposes. It does seem a bit odd that Google is restricting this in whatever manner they happen to be using, unless of course it's something much simpler to alter than I'm understanding. I have gone into the Google Now settings - Voice - and made alterations and I do get other voices, just not the Ivona Amy one that I currently have installed.
If anyone has any info or suggestions, I'd appreciate hearing it, thanks.

The "other voices" you mention: are they user-installed or stock with Google Now? If user-installed is the case, is it possible that "Amy" is on extSdCard and the others are local? I know this is a long-shot...

The other voices are region based like US UK etc and part of Google Now. I'm not having much luck getting the Ivona voice(s) recognized as something I can assign in place but I'll keep at it.

Did you try to change the global TTS under Settings > Language and Input?

Of course, that was the first thing, and then a reboot, then the attempt to change the setting in Google Now directly but, I suppose Google just wants people to hear the robotic-like voice they apparently have forced on us as a default. Oh well...

No worries, I make 'em all the time but this wasn't one of them.

You do realize that your "sig" is quoted because it's part of your regular posts, right? You can add a proper sig that doesn't get added into a reply quote...
I noticed that earlier. I think it's a Tapatalk thing. Thanks.

Hi, Other*voices are region based like US UK etc and part of Google Now. Try to change the global TTS under Settings > Language and Input?
Doesn't make any difference that I can make note of: Google Now just has its own set of voices and regardless of what TTS engine/voices you have installed it's going to apparently use that default one built-in.
Still looking around for more info, however.
Still no relief from Google's robot voice in sight?
only control over the voice ive found is to change your language setting within the app itself to UK to get a male voice. supposedly the actual UK got an update to a female brit voice which would be preferable. cant believe google wouldnt incorporate custom tts into this app. might have to be brought to their attention for a later version release.
youd think there would be dedicated voice repository for the google voice search app and that you could theoretically change the name of or reroute the voice command to a custom tts default.
any thoughts?
so i found a beta version of a speech command app based off google now. it's called utter. allows you to choose speech program and voice. also has additional features not found on google now from the looks of it. initiate listening via icon tap in shortcuts on the home screen. different setup but looks promising. hope this helps

Of you're rooted with titanium backup installed you could always try freezing Google tts and selecting ivona in language and input settings, I used to do that to change the voice of svoice to ivona when I had my note 2 and 3, haven't tried it for Google now though
Settings > My Device > Language and Input > Text-to-Speech Options >>> Select Google Text-to-Speech Engine
Then click on the "settings gear" icon to the right and select Llanguage and select your language. Then go to "Install Voice Data" and install the voice you want.
Has anyone figured this out?
Or are we stuck with using only Google's various voices from around the world, when we want to use Google Now?
Heck, I even uninstalled Google TTS so that only my 3rd party TTS voice was showing up in the options. And Google Now still managed to use its own voice for Google Now.
2015 and still google doesn't use androids architecture possibilities into google now. stuck with horror Spanish google voice that makes me wanna kill myself...
Please google. Aply common sense and let Now use systems preferred voice engine.
In Maps I have a similar issue since sometimes I get IVONA (my choice) and some other times I get Google's in the same travel... Anyone with the same issue?
Anyone ever thought about writing an app that would take in speech, feed it to google now, getting results as text and "saying" the results using the built in TTS settings?
That would be awesome, still didnt found such APP. Isnt such thing possible with Tasker?

[Q] OK pebble now!

I'm not an experienced programmer. Or in that way inclined but would I'd like to develop or would want helping. An app that would activate the google now voice search from a pebble application.
1. Activate pebble and access the OK pebble now app.
2. Would activate the google now voice search on your phone.
2.5 speak your request through your headset (if wearing a headset) (hands free).
3. Speak your request through the microphone through your phone.
4. Does the request in your pocket. Shows task complete on the pebble.
5. Show message sent to recipient.
Thanks in advance. if an experienced pebble developer decided to take on the project. i'm willing to pay them £10 through paypal once the job is finished. all i want to see is the project complete.
Vibrate on task complete.
I tried my hand at the application and couldn't do it.
UI is very simplistic.
I've just found an application that has functionality like what I'm asking for. Its called tasker and it works in conjunction with pebble tasker. So commands and apps can be open from the watch and to be opened up on the phone itself without even touching your phone. But its so long winded.
There's so many more options that you can do with the tasker/pebbletasker but I just want a google now voice search launcher.
No with the pebble receiving an update that allows you to have shortcuts to the apps that you assign them buttons too. This is a perfect opportunity to have a google now voice search launcher or a siri launcher so it covers both platforms.
Don't forget, I am willing to pay someone that will develop this idea. I will be creating images that I would like the UI to be.

Update With Proposed UI design
Here's pictures that i've designed that i would like for some to develop this app.
as you can see it's very minimalistic and it's very simple.
Somebody make me an offer and i will pay them to develop this app, it will be benefical for those working at an office and those working in retail that would like to reply back to family/friends whilst working.
$12 USD really isn't worth the time for any real development. We need people interested in this and create a bounty.

Did you ever get any traction on this? I just got my first pebble and this is the first thing I went looking for. I downloaded tasker and bought pebble tasker but I seem to lack the patience to figure out how to make that work. I agree that a shortcut would be perfect so I could operate google now in my pocket. All I use it for is to set reminders and save voice to text notes in evernote but it's a pain in the rear to get myphone out every time. I tried an app that listens for okgoogle even while the screen is off, but it triggered intermittently for no reason and other times would refuse to work at all. This would be the ideal solution. Count me in for $20.

Sadly i didn't get anywhere with this application. I would have easily loved something like this and like yourself i couldn't be bothered to go through the tasker app and setting it up. Just a install an install and go app i wanted.
If you know any developers out there that are willing to give this a shot.
When you say 'Count me in for $20', do you mean you are a developer that will be willing to develop this application?

Sadly, no. I can't develop anything but film. But I'll put $20 in for the developer who puts it together.
There is someone who created a nice dashboard app that lets me find my phone if lost, control wifi, lock the screen, and a number of other things. I think I'll email that developer and see if they can just add that. I really want this and I want it to work. And with the new Pebble coming out soon I think I'll be picking one of those up as well so I'm committed to the platform. This is the one thing I feel I'm missing.
Not really what you are after, but I very easily set up a Tasker task to wake up my phone (but keep it locked) so I could give it "OK Google" commands. This way I can send texts or navigate home without taking my phone out. Pebble Tasker makes it only a click away.

I did this as well, but now, every time I launch PebbleTasker on my phone, Voice Search begins opening repeatedly and I can't even get to it to try to add additional tasks. Have you run into this? Did I do something wrong? Al I did was create a profile, then a task to launch the VoiceSearch App. It came up on my pebble fine and works flawlessly. It wasn't until I went to add somethign else to the PebbleTasker that I ran into this. Since then I've deleted the task from PebbleTasker and it still does it. Very odd. Any ideas?
I didn't do mine this way because your phone needs to be awake for the Voice Search app to open. However, I just set it up to see if I had the same issue as you, and I didn't. Everything worried as it should. I don't know why it isn't working for you.
My task is just to wake up my phone, then I give my "OK Google" voice command.

OK. I'm setup a little different. I installed the Xposed mod which lets me do this without a task to wake the phone. I simply set a task to launch VoiceSearch, and when I press the button on pebble tasker, the app launches without even lighting up the screen.
Here's the link to it. forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-secure-google-search-t2606688
I think there's something else going on here though. It was working fine Sunday. I'm having general issues with Google now it seems. Reminders aren't getting set to notes and instead are getting sent to alarms. Even if I say "remind me to get cheese the next time I'm at walmart", it tries to set an alarm then it stops because it's waiting for me to set a time. I installed Keep thinking that might fix it...no joy. I cleared the cache and all data, uninstalled google app and the launcher, restarted to clear the cache partition, rebooted in safe mode, went back to regular mode and still get the same problems. Kind of stumped right now. I can't delete older cards and if I go directly into reminders and try to push the plus sign button to add a reminder, it correctly identifies my words and they go on the screen and it just stops there. it's not locked up or anything. It just won't go any further. So something is really wrong with google. just dont' have a clue what it could be at the moment.
Yeah, it sounds like like the Pebble task is the least of your worries. I read here that someone else was having a similar reminders issue. I have no idea if he is rooted or not, so I don't know if it is Xposed related. Good luck.

The plot thickens. I have a Nexus 7 mounted on my refrigerator basically for Google now and the way I can just say "make a note" and it will save a note in evernote for me. It's stock and with the latest auto update is running 4.4.4. A power cord is connected perpetually. I haven't touched the thing physically in MONTHS. But apparently in the last 3-4 days it has developed the same problem with reminders not working. It gets stuck just like my phone does when I'm manually trying to make a reminder. It's like the entire reminder function was removed and my phone just grabbed onto alarms as a last resort rather than not do anything at all. I've googled it and haven't found anyone else with the issue (or they haven't noticed yet). but to have it on two different devices at the same time - one of which I haven't even touched indicates that there's a conflict with an update and probably a common app between the two devices.......now to figure out what it might be.......

As far as I know, a lot of voice-initiated command will become available with Pebble-core's connection to Alexa
Currently, the pebble is also capable of doing such with 'snowy' commands. See mydogsnowy.com
I have no stake in that product whatsoever, and in fact I struggling a bit with its voice-recognition ... I'm dutch, so perhaps my english is not adequate for the recognition. So... your mileage may vary, but from what I've tested and seen described it's really promising

Reading Caller ID out loud setting, or APP

So, I found the setting that reads to me who is calling.
So, for instance if Jesse Pinkman calls me, my phone will say "Jesse Pinkman" and then ring.
If it is not in my contact list, it will read the number.
But it only does it once.
I remember on some of my older phones, it would actually say who was calling, you would get the ring, say who was calling, get the ring, and repeat until VM picks up or I pick up.
I am looking for a way to do this again. If not available, is there an APP that will do this?
The reason I am doing this is because I have bluetooth on my helmet, and when I am riding I only want to pick up for certain callers.
On my phone, it is found under
Settings >> Accessibility>> Screen Reader>> Settings >>Read caller ID aloud
I simply did a search for "aloud" in Settings.
For anyone still looking for an answer: Samsung has made it difficult (on Oreo) to enable the function without the accessibility settings that call out every action you do. It has been integrated well in Pie under call settings. However, if you don't like Pie, like me, there's only one app that I found to actually do it very well. Its called Who's Calling. Get it from PlayStore. I have tested more than 20 apps and nothing does it better. I haven't even seen a single ad from it. Hope this saves someone time.
Cheers

Question Some lingering issues...

I've been joyfully using my Mi 11 for a few months now, but some issues remain. Please help, if you can!
In order of importance:
1) Where's my DND? I want an options that blocks ALL calls and notifications, including the icons that might show on the top or on the always-on. A complete disconnect, but without going to airplane mode so I can actually use the phone when I need it. Just like it used to work on each and every one of my previous Galaxy S phones.
I can't find any app that does this right.
2) I get ALL notifications, but often -
a) If a new one comes from an app, let's say WhatsApp, and I haven't read the one before, it'll show me that one instead of the new one
b) Often, there's no preview in the relevant screens, just "notification from app".
3) Writing in languages that aren't English leaves me with a squiggly red line underneath the text indication a spelling error. How do I tell the phone to stop doing that?.. or alternatively, teach it other languages?
Running MIUI 12 EU ROM.
Thanks!
For 1 is do not disturb not doing this? You have some settings to customize. Just go into settings and type do not disturb.
For 3 you can define multiple languages in the Google keyboard and change the typing language with a key (Gboard configuration)
For 2 I have no idea
The settings don't show anything relevant. It only silences notifications, but still shows them on the top line thingy.
The language is defined... and I can type in it. It just marks everything as an error.
