Phone requires "activation" outside US? - Moto G5S Plus Questions & Answers

I’m visiting the States soon as was planning on getting the moto g5 Phone.
This seemed like a good deal:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/motoro...e-unlocked-lunar-gray/6053500.p?skuId=6053500
But Bestbuy has this “Activate now/later” feature and I was wondering, is this truly unlocked? Can I bring this back home (Israel) and this will work with my carriers (Bands seem to fit)? (Maybe root it first and install clean OS and then?)
ty

They are just running a special on people who have Verizon postpaid they get a little discount for buying it out right. YOU pay the unlocked price underneath the activation.
basically you pay the 274.99

Sweet, so for 280 i can activate with any provider i want, correct?

I think so. Not sure about which bands your Israeli carrier will use, but as long as that carrier supports the bands you intend to use, it should, but don't take my (pitifully under educated)word for it.

If you carrier uses the band then yes it will work. Just make sure the band for the us moto g5s works for your carrier!

I would just order the unlocked phone direct from motorola . They even have in house financing that does not charge interest if you pay off in a year .
I have just ok credit and was approved for 1300 bucks to spend . I purchased 2 phones and pay $56 a month for a year no interest . The easy payment will look good on my credit so im just gonna pay it out for proof of steady payment history . Just saying its worth looking into and you will have no problems with modding the phone . I could be wrong but isnt some variations of the G5s Plus purchased from amazon not so modding friendly ?

Hey man,
im not sure what you mean by "I could be wrong but isnt some variations of the G5s Plus purchased from amazon not so modding friendly", but your tip to buy directly from Motorola saved me around 45$ (They sell it cheaper AND have a 5% off now for that phone).
So thank you!

I know ! It's a great deal ! And SOME people thought my post was foolish . I started my research on this phone by looking up the best price for phones that could be easily rooted and modified . I was at one time really into doing this to phones but I took a break from it for 3 years . I've enjoyed my G5S Plus and the forums . It really spooked me though when. I lost IMEI and VOLTE . Still don't have VOLTE . I was only testing a custom rom one time. I usually like a stock rooted and it pissed me off so bad to half to work my ass off figuring out how to restore my IMEI . Anyways enjoy the phone but after OTA to Oreo better be careful if you modify the device it could be costly in the form of basic communication features on the phone. Efs back ups should be the FIRST thing you do and better keep that **** in a safe place !!!!!!!

Can i sell a Droid 3 or should i throw it away?

I only want to know if i should sell it or throw it away.. if it's worth it... don't want to sell it here. Sorry if that thread seems to.
I bought a droid 3 on ebay, unfortunately i was not able to remove the subsidy lock
When i bought it, it was brand new. I only tried 2 codes, they didn't work. Bad luck for me.
I've never made any modifications to the software or hardware.
The specs:
Model: Xt862
Carrier: Verizon Wireless
ESN: good (i looked it up on verizon wireless' official website)
Condition: very good, not a single scrach or any damages.
Batteries: 3 (manufactured by motorola, they work without problems)
No instructions or anything else..
I live in europe (Austria) so i cannot retrieve any codes from verizon, only a customer of them can do that. So the value would be reduced to the minimum or nothing right? I got a new phone from samsung for free from my carrier "Telekom Austria" so no need for this cell phone any more. I don't even know if it is stolen or not, some unlock-code sites said "reported as stolen". Verizon website says it is eligable for activation the seller called verizon, the same answer. I don't want to do any researches to find out if it is stolen or not.. i don't think it is.
So is it worth to sell it or not?
Many thanks in andvance!
PS: sorry for my poor english

so maybe i can sell it on ebay .. how much can i get for this cell phone, approximatelly?
Yes, i'll do that but this phone is senseless in every aspect!!! Even a stone is more efficient as a paper weight! and of course much nicer DDD
The worst thing is, there are no alternatives for a qwertz or qwerty keyboard here.. no single phone at any carrier.. what a ...**********. they are too old to get support.. all of them..

You can definitely sell it. To say it's worthless is ridiculous. Android phones still serve as decent personal media players and gaming devices.
put a price on it, and let me know through a PM, pls.
i will take it of your hands.
i am located pretty close to your country, also.
Donate it to hashcode or some other developer. It might help them help the rest of us.
yes, this is the best idea!

You can sell it on Ebay. How much you brought it for?
Sent from my XT883 using XDA
Including taxes about 300€
without taxes 240 €
seemed to be a very good price..
Have you tried with TurboSIM, more precisely i-SmartSIM (orange)?
In addition to eBay, I would suggest dropping a PM to some of the D3 developers. They may be willing to negotiate a fair price with you, so they can have an extra device to test on, but definitely don't just throw it away...just a thought.

L90 for 99 bux hurry up !!

All,
tmobile lowered the price on the l90 from 220 to 99
i dont know for how long so, i hunt for one today locally and no luck
out of stock... but they stock them daily... ups get the shipments on the local branches
between 10 am and 2 pm so you can be at 10 at the branch and hunt for the ups truck
what i did is go to best buy and they got them in stock locally at 179... but they will price match.. so they price match mine
also you can go on the tmobile site and get it there... i prefered to get it locally but online was my plan b
in case i cant get it locally
at 100 bux is a no brainer
is the moto g similar to the l90 ?
Enjoy
Rolo.
Picked up one for my son a couple days ago. I went in to get him a Sammy Galaxy Light cuz it's only $100, and they pointed out the L90 being on sale for the same price. Like you said - no brainer.
snagged one
I got one this past weekend, pretty nice device.... Waiting to hear when more come in to upgrade a relative too..... Motorola should take note on how SD cards are suppose to work in phones, Moto G LTE is a nightmare......
I'm super happy with mine...already rooted it
And supposedly boot unlocked...now imnwaiting for a stable version of cm11
Picked one up today to replace my Xperia ion from AT&T. Kinda nervous about its data speeds, but I'm beyond excited about ir. My achilles heel is remote controls; my tv remote covers my tv power, volume, and input switching, I use the u-verse app or real remote for u-verse tv but it doesn't do volume, and I use keyboard or app for my openelec xbmc htpc. While I anticipate some fumbling between apps, at least I can do it all with one device.
I got 7-10 Mbit dl speeds where i live and 2mbit up speeds....love the remote app but it only have major manufacturer of LCD listed so if u have a Westinghouse...insignia or Emerson or haier u are out of luck
great phone, fast, light, decent camera.
one HUGE issue (other than lack of XDA type development): Battery life is extremely unpredictable.
sometime it can go 3 days (72 hours) between charge with 1-2 hrs screen on time, wifi + 3g.
sometime it'll die in 12 hrs with 0 screen on time, 0 usage.
"Android OS" is shown as biggest battery drain but thanks to google's infinite wisdom to block battery/wakelock viewing, I can't figure out what's causing it. Full factory reset with no account syncing doesn't help.
likely cause is bad wifi driver because when it's in death mode, wifi refuses to connect to network and have to be cycled off/on.
TL;DR: Warning, your $100 phone may run out of battery under 12 hours with zero usage.

Dude... I had just run across this device surfing the web yesterday and decided to give it a try.. From what I read, it was a pretty good device for under $200.00..
Then checking here to see if there was any development going on with it, I ran across your "Heads-Up" post..

BestBuy price matched for me as well..
I was able to get a New Edger, and a set of Wheels for my Lawn Mower with $35.00 bucks to spare with the savings.... :good:
Thanks to you Rolo.......... Good Reporting My Friend.. after Rooting, Animation Adjustment and Nova Prime, the L90 simply flies

Do you guys know that T-Mobile sells L90 to their postpaid customers for $24.99?
That's what I call hurry up!
You have to be with t-mo for a year (or so I was told).
L90s are currently backordered.

I think what the other poster meant about the $24.99 price is that T-Mobile is only offering it to their contract customers (postpaid) as opposed to their no-contract customers (prepaid). You'd only see the $24.99 price if you were logged into their site and were a contract customer with a year or more history with them.
Ic
thanks

I have the no contract Simple Choice T-Mobile plan, and since I am a valued customer (bills paid all on time for 12 months) my L90 cost me $50 including tax. Still, $50 is an AMAZING deal for this phone (heck, I'd be fine even with the $99 personally).
I picked one of these up this week but the only one I could find required I buy a Sim starter kit ($10) and a $30 Tmobile card. I'm using it on Ultra Mobile so I didn't need those but I'll keep the SIM kit and the family has other plans with Tmobile I can use the $30 on. I purchased an unlock code but didn't even need to unlock it. I think it was unlocked out of the box.
Yeah. I found out when I got mine that the SIM on this phone is smaller than my previous SIM. I got the Boost equivalent for my girl, too, since her phone's battery life sucked.

Same here. This phone is amazing, totally worth $150, but even more awesome for $50.
I just got done flashing back to 10c firmware and I'm trying to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery. Looking for a stock ROM without all the bloat - CM11 sounds awesome but it looks like there are still a few issues (no video recording/playback and camera not taking pretty pictures - though I have to read and see if any of that has been fixed).
Well that was fun.
Just got back from a local Best Buy here in Las Vegas, I called ahead of time to check stock and to verify their "Price Match Guarantee" thing - I could have just ordered it from T-Mobile's website but, why wait a week for it to ship if I can get it tonight, right?
So, on the phone they try and blow me off constantly: the first girl I spoke with said they wouldn't price match, the second said they wouldn't price match if it's not in stock, then I got someone to ask the Manager (who would not speak with me on the phone, oddly enough) and he said they wouldn't honor the Price Match Guarantee on any cellular phone even in spite of that being totally inaccurate. I finished the call by saying "You'll honor it when I get there..." and then promptly ended the call.
Go to the store a half hour later, get the second phone from the shelf - the first one the girl handed me didn't even have a phone in the box, oops... - and then went to Customer Service and asked for the Manager, who came out from the back area and wondered just what I wanted (it was like 5 mins to closing time).
I said I need to price match the LG L90 with T-Mobile's current full retail pricing online at $49.99 and then he basically went into full damage control mode and did like 15 rebuttals to me about why they couldn't/shouldn't/wouldn't match the price: he whipped out his smartphone and started doing research, checked the T-Mobile site but kept hitting the "Add to cart" button before the page even loaded and I kept saying "You have to let the page load first so you can see the actual price."
He just kept at it for nearly 10 mins trying to show me it required activation - I replied "Nope, it's the full retail price at $49.99 and they are offering you the SIM activation kit for another $15 (which is crazy since the L90 comes with a brand new unactivated SIM in the box, I mean really). He kept sticking to his story that it required you to activate it and I kept saying "No, you're wrong there because it's a prepaid device and if it was in stock in the stores I could get it and not deal with any of that and activate it at home when I wanted." He jumped on the "not in stock" thing and I said no, they're out of stock in the local stores here (which they are when I called to ask) but this is an online price for an online retailer and he knew I wasn't going to back down.
I said "Look, there's two outcomes here: 1) you sell me the price matched smartphone and I leave a happy customer and continue doing business with Best Buy in the future, or 2) you don't honor your own policy for the Price Match Guarantee, I leave pissed off, angry, and frustrated, I go home and order it from T-Mobile online for the same price, you lose a customer forever, and then I hand-write (not email) a nice detailed letter to the Vice-President for Customer Relations at Best Buy Corporate about my experience here where I'm 100% in the right and within 48 hours of his Executive Assistant getting the letter I'll get a phone call, an apology, and at least a $50 Best Buy Gift Card for the hassle you ended up causing me tonight."
He didn't like that very much, nor do I think he likes me either but, for a change this customer actually was right.
So I got the phone for the $49.99+tax as I expected when I walked in, proof below...
Tips if you want 'em:
- Best Buy's Price Match Guarantee states that in order for the price match to be available, the actual web page at Best Buy's website must say "PRICE MATCH GUARANTEE" on the page just above the price - the LG L90 does say that so, that's one
- If you read deeper into the Best Buy Price Match Guarantee guidelines there's a disclaimer about contract cell phones - they are excluded from the price match guarantee directly - and I made it clear that I knew this and that this is not a contract phone, it's a prepaid phone - that's two
So the Manager had no actual ground to stand on and was left with no choice but to honor the Price Match Guarantee as written on their website and also on a flyer in their stores (you have to ask to see it, actually, they don't post it for their own silly reasons).
Anyway, just earlier tonight I was looking at craigslist for an L90 believe it or not and decided to check in here for info about any updates, root, bootloader unlocking, etc, and lo and behold I caught this thread so, thank you for sharing the information, OP...
So far I like it overall. Coming from a G2 it's a bit of a letdown of course but, after some tweaking and other playing around I'm sure I'll like it even more.

My biggest complaint is that it is not 4g LTE.

I think the cheaper price point will bring more users, probably not many more people developing. Either way good price for the phone.
I believe the only negative impact would end up falling on LG as opposed to T-Mo as LG has allowed T-Mobile to cripple the device with the 10e firmware update. Be forewarned, if you get it now, it'll have that firmware pre-installed and it's a fuss to get it rolled back to 10c to root and then another pain to be able to access a recovery.
I able to get this phone from my work. (Big retail box chain in US. Guess what? They price match!) I liked around the specs for this and was pleasantly surprised about the performance for the price. I walked out with the phone for under $100 and am happy with this device. Always Always look at competitor pricing and find a place that can give you guarantees. Sorry about that terrible experience @br0adband!
Regardless this is a great phone with great specs at a great price, MSRP or not. I might even learn a thing and try my own mods if it isn't rocket science!

Scam detected? topic of speculation-conspiracy

Hey there guys,
i am coming from a topic overa Samsung Note and it's trouble to reverse it to a somewhat original state.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/help/help-unroot-note-8-via-flash-odin-t3740773
And i am making this thread in the hope that this is a better place to discuss my conspiracy speculation.
To summarize a bit of the original thread:
a buddy of mine got a Note 8 from a shady seller and it turned out that it had a custom rom.
In the phone knox got triggered by the seller and that makes the phone very unuseful.
The guy that "sold" my buddy this Note 8 seemed to be very eager to give it to him. At first he made an offer on local ebay and said that he didn't want his note 8 because it is rooted and modded etc.
My buddy made an agreement with him to exchange his older less worth samsung, which was all original and unrooted, for the sellers note 8. The seller complied although the difference in worth was approx. 250 Euro.
My buddy was happy that he made great deal... at first...
Later we found out that the same seller is selling my buddies old phone on local ebay again and surprise surprise it's rooted and modded again and offered for a much smaller price than what it's worth.
Now... is it possible to root and hack those phones with lets say... keyloggers and give them to unsuspected customers that enter all their account data and banking information?
Otherwise i have no idea why this seller is practically almost giving them away for nothing and is rooting formerly unrooted devices and sells them with the point that he doesn't want rooted devices and losing money with every trade.
Scam detected? What do you think?

Will buying an S10 from UAE effect me?

Hey guys,
So my sister lives in Abu Dhabi UAE and she can get me an S10 for about $200-$300 cheaper than I can get here in Australia.
My question is if I get her to buy one for me and ship it here will it have any downfalls?
I don't use Samsung Pay but I do use Google Pay.
While I'm not too bothered about having to flash something my girlfriend (who also wants a phone) won't go for any of it.. She wants a stock phone with no messing and me explaining how easy it is won't change that, I've tried for years with other phones (rooting/roms etc.)
Should I save my money or should I just get the local model here?
For anyone wanting a look

Electronics in the UAE are relatively cheaper. However, buying it may affect your wallet when you will have to get a repair as Samsung doesn't offer international warranties for mobile phones.
Assuming, your sister brings you a device with no defects, it all comes down to the usage of your girlfriend, how mobile abusive she is . (Like showing all the anger on mobile phone etc..) ..
Anyway, I wish I had a partner (girlfriend) who gifts expensive gadgets . Wait !!!!!! I dont have one , let alone one that gift expensive gadgets

Let's not get crazy here! Nobody is gifting anything! We are both buying phones and paying for our own! Haha.. If I had the money to gift a $1000 phone then I would like to imagine I wouldn't need to worry about saving $300! ?
We are pretty good with our phones (both have 3+ year old S7's) the warranty issue is a little worrying but something I may have to take on the chin..

Exynos version should be exchangeable, just flash Australian firmware with Odin, you will get the same as the one in Australia.
