Hello All,
I am looking for a simple mobile data widget for my note 8 to show my phones data usage. I have tried apps like "Data Counter Widget" but that is a complete data tracking app. I just want to display my current cycle data usage as already collected by my phone (as seen in Settings -> Connections -> Data Usage). Is there such a widget?
You can try zooper, it is very, very good, you can make your own widgets with many different items, clock, batt, calendars, weather, data, memory, temperatures, bitmaps, etc, there is dedicated section in XDA, take a look
Try the Glasswire app. They will have a persistant notification to meet your needs. Might even have a widget too.
Will show you even your live bandwidth meter

This has nothing to do with this thread, since it isn't a widget and doesn't do what OP wants.

OP, These seem to do what you want:
"Data counter widget - data usage | data manager" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roysolberg.android.datacounter
"Data Monitor: Simple Net-Meter" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.kfsoft.datamonitor

OK even though I have like 1.5 gb available app storage, I still get insufficient storage and my app doesn't get installed.
I need to clear my app caches and also "clear data" of my market (reset it). I need to do that in order to get the app to install succesfully and not waste my limited unlimited 2G data. What is going on?
I need a fix? Anyone got one? No? Yes?
I look forward to hearing from you.

It's a bug in the Market, as far as I know the only fix is what you've already done. Otherwise try the Amazon App Store.
Here is a way to avoid it: Install apps one at a time. Wait for the installation to finish, then install the second app, etc.
I have so many problems with Google now. For example, this market problem about "insufficient storage". And when I send an email w/ resume and cover letter from my university to job recruiters, my name signature always show as "hidden content", and then employer needs to click on the hidden content to see my signature. It makes my job application look unprofessional! It can't be avoided because my school uses the gmail system, and turning off the feature doesn't work at all. Third, Google Chrome has been crashing when I have just 3 windows. I have no additional extensions/apps installed and it crashes! It used to be able to run 20 pages (8 GB RAM). Fourth, I never screw up the formatting in my email, and for some reason my text gets highlighted white AND grey. So my job application looks unprofessional.
GOOGLE WTF IS GOING ON?
i have the first update installed on the droid 3 and it is rooted but i have no problems...

I have the latest update, and my phone is rooted too. But ever since the 10 day 10 cent price promotion on Google Market, I've installed so many apps (I also recently paid full price for a bunch of apps too), and now "space" has become a problem (even though my storage says 1.5 available app space).

Seems stable here, we'll see. BUT...You need to flash gapps for 4.2,, or there will be a lot of force closing on startup. (I am using using 20121212 here). And of course wipe dalvik and cache. Having trouble with voip apps, but probably not the rom.
Running well here...
Working well for me so far. Like srpanadero said install 20121212 gapps. If you use 5 x 5 homescreen icons spacing you'll notice outer icons bleeding over the edges, wrong spacing between widgets, dock items spaced too tight, go to > Settings > Launcher > Homescreen, enable Stretch screens. Everything will fall into place.
If you have any apps (like Barcode scanner) that need to disable hardware overlays, Developer options are not showing by default, you have to turn them on. Settings > About phone > Tap Build number several times until it tells you you're about to turn on developer options, 3 2 1, there they are!
Running with UVMA1 radio, works, no dropped calls, etc, but need to try this radio all over town... Best data I've seen with this latest radio is 7M (just at home, slow is usual here), may go back to Blaze UVLH5 which gave 10M, 14M in bursts. Need to test gps.

Where did you find these modems?! Can you post a link please
radio
I don't have upload privileges yet, or links, email me, its in my profile. The blaze radio is all over xda, search for it including the 5 digit alphanumeric designation (there are older versions, get the latest 1 I mentioned). Since you gave upload privileges, please upload it, and the screenshot, if you would.
By the way, a few speed tests later, 7M to 11M so far today, Bluetooth works, had to pair deliberately this time... GPS still no verdict, maps wouldn't lock on, may have just been that location, still testing.
There is a new nightly from the 11th.
This has been very stable here. Maps are good. Only problem has been VoIP, but seem to be working around that by playing with settings in sip client. I think it is just flaky Samsung hardware implementations. Very smooth and fast. Lock screen widgets are great. Have not tried NFC.
Edit: WiFi tether not working.
I am not able to load it through cwm or twrp. I suspect I have dorked something up.
New Radio Link
As promised, the link to the new UVMA1 Radio. I take no responsibility for this as I am posting the link for a member that cannot. I have not tested it yet, but I will momentarily and report back.

Installed and testing.....so far nothing extraordinary, mid 5Mb/s down, 1MB/s up which is ballpark of what I normally get up here in Northwest Denver (about 30 miles north of the city proper).

I have a quick question. Could it be possible that I was able to root but am stuck with the stock boot loader?

I am pretty new to all this but this is what I learned. so far.
Rooting only give you admin rights to the system. It does not change the stock loader. You need to add CWM or TRWP to get a different boot screen. There are packages that will do both for you.
Hope this helps
I installed both on my phone after rooting and tried to install the nightly but I get an error.
And the error is?
I'll have to try it again and tell you.
---------- Post added at 09:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:02 PM ----------
First, it only has an option to load via external sd card or cache and second the error says something like unable to verify whole file signature.

Sounds like you do not have the twrp2 recovery installed which you will need to install a rom. Is the recovery screen a green android, or a black screen full of large square buttons? I can't post a link but do a google image search for twrp2 and you will see what that screen is supposed to look like.
If you do not have twrp then google "sgh-t879 twrp" and the first link will be to instructions and options for installing it.
No I have a little android guy on the screen. Thanks, that helps! I'm not sure where I went wrong. I think it had something to do with being on the newest version.
So I performed that step within the goo manager, but recovery still looks identical to before.
I had same issue finally downloaded the zip file to my phone and used Room manager to install it. There is a thread in this forum that give steps. If you can't find it I will post the link when I get back to my desk top

Re: cm10.1 nightly
I tried every instruction and the only one that worked for me was adb shell and then use the dd command. That command is in that instruction page.
Yeah cwm doesn't work either. At this point I'd rather just get a new phone lol but can't afford to.
[Q] Error message: "turn on background data" followed by wrong instructions?
I keep getting this curious error message "Turn on background data" accompanied by generic instructions as to possible ways this should be done. Which dont seem to apply to the Galaxy S3.
My unit indeed doesnt seem to scan constantly for emails or gmails unless I go to the program and tell it to do so. And it has just started telling me that I can't access the play store unless I enable background data.
I was just moved by t-mobile from a 200 meg plan to a 3 gig plan and I can't remember whether I ever disabled background data to reduce usage or to prevent anonymous tracking in some way. So I am not sure if turning it off is a disadvantage or a security feature? Or possibly some way of preventing Angry Birds from sending me incessant adverts when my young offspring demand my phone to play this game?
I certainly cant remember how I did this, assuming I was aware of doing it!
Does anyone know how to turn on background data and whether having it on is a good thing or a bad thing please?
Go to settings>data usage tap menu button, you should find a restrict background data button..untick it...
And about background data restriction,it's pros and cons completely depends on your usage..if you restrict the background data,no data's ( no means 0 bites ) can be used by Any app until you open it in foreground..its a life saver for those who have planned there data usage for every app they use...but if you are a free minded android user, and want to get everything from your device, you might not restrict your background data..
But it will cost a little (sometimes even more) datas without asking for your permission!

Actually that was why I posted: When I Go to settings>data usage and tap menu button, I find a restrict background data button which is unticked. There IS no restriction of which i am aware, so I wondered where it is on the T-Mobile Galaxy 'skin'?

Ahh I think you have restricted the background data for google play store or play services individually.
Go to data usage and tap on google apps like play store, play services etc.there is a restrict background data option for each app..make sure they are unticked..
If this doesn't help,I think I can't help you further..

This is indeed an odd one:I had checked that as well and restrict data isnt checked there either!
However, as to the immediate problem at hand, thanks for the advice: Is IS checked for the play store.
And maybe this is useful, to know that you can restrict background data for programs like angry birds?

Yep it's possible to restrict background data for all app particularly..
and if you find that restricting and unrestricting it from settings is a bit annoying, you might try apps like android firewall..they are too good to control your data usage.. but root permission required!

I find that the OOS is stopping several of my apps from notifying me when things happens (other apps work fine but some don't). I have tried to choose Don't optimize under Battery settings but that seems to have no effect on certain apps.
Is there a setting somewhere that can make this less aggressive? I'd rather have my apps working than save a some percent of the battery...

Yeah, I have the same problem with telegram, for example, it's getting killed by system quite often.
You can disable doze mode in developer option, see if it helps. However, I wouldn't advise you to do that, as the impact on standby battery would be significant.

Hey,
For years I have been on Apple and have been jealous of Android users who could do almost anything they want, which as an Apple user I could not .
Recently I moved to Samsung and found that actually with very basic thing, Android has one big limitation (unless I havent found the solution which is hidden) .......
When using the Wathsapp, I don't want photos I get will automatic be store in the gallery due to both storage issue and content I don't want that they will find their way to the gallery ...... hence I turned off the auto save option when every photo i do want to save i will have to chose and save it.
At Apple this option was really simple, I would go into a chat and pick the photos I was interested in and save.
BUT on the Android, I can't save photos in the Watsapp gallery at all (at least I didn't find any save button or other).
The solution I found to be pretty ****ty is to pick an image and then click on the three dots of the options that appear at the top of the screen, choose Share and then select Upload to Image (which is Google's cloud), even if it is a solution i cn live with , it is unclear why once more than one image is selected the three dots for the option menu where i can choose the upload option disappearing so i can only upload one photo at a time.
Is there something I miss or is it a punishment for not allowing Watsapp to automatically save in the gallery ??
You can simply hide the What's app album in the settings
Create a .nomedia file in the folder to disable it from showing up on your photos
Is there any real solution to that issue ?
---------- Post added at 11:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:17 AM ----------
Why is not possible to click the image and just save it to the gallery like on iPhones ??? Is that because of samsung or because of WhatsApp... there are a million options how to share the image... the only option is missing is save to gallery.... very strange ??*??*??*
Hi, Did you find a solution for this?
Hi, Did you find a solution for this?
I have the same problem, with my Iphone I did not have this problem...
---------- Post added at 07:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:05 AM ----------
I found a solution..
1.- Download following app: " CX Explorer"
2.- Go to Whattsapp and select the image or photo that you want to save
3.- Clock click share.
4.- Select "Cx explorer" (this app will appear as an option to share with)
5.- Select the location where you want to save your selection (for exemple local storage)
6.- Select the folder where you have your photos (for example camara or DCIM) or just create a new folder in order to save selected photos from Whattapp
7.- Click save
8.- Now you can go to your gallery and you will be able to see your saved photos.
I hope it can help you... I'm new in Android, I miss this option from Iphone too...
