How to Completely disable the Home button? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

I am using PIE controls. The hardware button is really annoying as it keeps getting accidentally pressed when activating PIE. Is there anyway to disable it completely? I am rooted but none of the button remapper apps seem to work.

I've tried all the options there. I am on stock rom as well. Its currently on Virtual Navigation Bar. But a single table on the home button still brings me back to Home.

Yeah i just tested it myself now and i get same thing. using virtual navigations. The home button is still acting as home button, you can touch it and it will still take you back to home screen.

I need to disable touch on FP scanner without denying unlock via FP scanner. I too would like to use pie controls if this can be achieved. @sacredsouls what PIE are you using? Rooted or stock?

I am rooted. Just an app called 'Pie Controls'.

Has anyone found a way to disable this button?
I'm in the verge of throwing my phone at an oncoming train in aggravation because of how frequently I hit that button in error

Nope, I gave up using PIE and I am just using the onscreen nav now.

I am using only the home button. Full screen real estate. So satisfying. I have no issues now that I've gotten used to it. Went back to my Pixel and the navbar method felt backward.
It's just muscle memory. Use the FPS and in just a few days, you'll be set. So long as you don't use other devices in between.

CM7 "N" Key / Back - best options?

I'm not running any extra virtual key apps... What I want to do... is have the physical N button do a BACK on 1 click, and HOME on 2 clicks... Or normal click BACK, and LONG click HOME...
I've looked through some of the settings - can't tell how to set that up (if at all).
Any thoughts?
Why not use the soft keys built in to CM7?
Sometimes the status bar is gone... either because something causes it to hide, or because I hide it.

The best setup so far (imho), is to set the soft keys show up at volume button press.
Since the power button or N button tend to fail sometimes.
By doing that, you can hide soft keys with no fear and just presse volume button to bring they back to the screen, flawless.
@blauson
I hate doing that because if I need to change volume I need to leave the app, go into settings, and change it manually. :/
Somehow my "n" button got turned into a back button. Weird. Would much rather haave it be a menu button. but I dont even know how it changed in the first place! lol

I second on that.
I'm running nightly 131.
No problem to change the volume neither to show up soft keys.
I use the N key to cancel full screen. Its more comfortable to use than the volume keys for me.
Hrm.. that would work... Where do I configure what the N key does?

This is how I've been doing it as well, but sometimes it brings me all the way back to home after showing the status bar. Do you ever experience that? Any tips if so?
Regardless, I like my volume buttons to be... well... volume buttons.
You could use button savior to have a never-hide home only option button located on the very right side by the N button, leaving that slot unused on adw launcher and treat it as a "permanent" home button.

The best thing I ever did was install zMooth. Its a gesture bar that lets you draw the buttons. Almost like my old pre.

Rodney
It has always worked well for me. Have you used the nook screen recalibrate app? Before I ran that I had a really hard time getting the lower part of my screen to recognize my touch. I think there are some sensitivity settings in the zMooth app you can play around with too.

Disable Nav Bar but Keep Hard Press

I am using Pie Controls on the Note8, and have disabled the Navbar using the disable Navbar apk from this thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...yers-themes-notifications-note8-t3678166/page). Unfortunately, that also disables the ability to hard press the home button. Is there any way that I can retain the hard press home functionality while still stopping the nav bar from appearing whenever I swipe up from the bottom of the screen?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. What I want is the ability to hard press the home button again in order to press home, not just to do what it did before (which was just go home anyway). I was wondering if there was a way to, for example, make the navbar zero size or permanently hidden without disabling it, since it seems like it is the navbar itself that actually listens for the hard press.
Came here looking for the same thing. If you make the bottom bar activation area for pie larger than the nav bar it picks it up, so maybe a transparent 1px nav bar with no buttons would do the trick. That way technically it would still be present (allowing for the home hardpress) but still invoke the pie. I'm just researching this today so maybe someone has already come up with a solution and I haven't stumbled on it yet. Did you end up doing anything different?

Looking for hard press when the nav-bar is completely disabled, not just when it's hidden. The issue is that the the hard press functionality seems to be tied to the nav bar software, so if the nav bar process isn't running on the device the hard press isn't processed.

Because if you just hide the nav bar by double tapping the little circle, then if you try to use pie controls on the bottom edge of your screen swiping up unhides the nav bar instead of bringing up pie controls, essentially making pie controls take more work to use than the nav bar when the point is that it's supposed to be faster and more comfortable.

Yes, that's similar to what I'm doing right now. I have a full navbar of back, home, and recent on each side of the screen (I also have the bixby button remapped to back, recents, and home. I've definitely gone overboard on this, but oh well) but I'd like to also replace the bottom nav-bar with pie controls without losing hard-press home functionality.
I ended up using the same apk listed above, I still have the 'hard home press' on the AOD, which is pretty much the only place I used it reliable. On to full time PIE baby!

Navigation Key lost functions

My navigation button seems to have lost the 'home' and 'recent apps' functionality. I still have fingerprint unlock, back and google menus.
I tried turning the normal nav bar back on and off, but that didn't help. Stock ROM. Any ideas?

Are you sure that there's no dead touch spot on the screen? Try to turn on visual touch feedback in the developer options to check the area around the home and recent button. But I think there's no way to avoid a reset. Don't forget to back up your stuff!
also make sure that you dont have any overlay app, like dim screen, rounded corners etc. They often mess up system buttons, because this is how android protect from fake touches made by apps.

Touches all look reasonable (but there is no indication for the off-screen buttons). No overlays or anything like that on this phone. I think it will have to be a reset, but kind of reluctant to do that in a rush...

How to lock screen without pressing power button?

Hi!
I'm wondering if I can lock my device without pressing the power button. In my galaxy s9+, I used the "custom navigation bar" app to add an invisible power button to the navigation bar, but this app CRASHED my note9!!!!
I spent 2 hours trying to solve the issue without losing my apps and stuff, successfully. Now I want to use another way to save my power button.
I installed an app called "home launcher" to use the home long press to call another app instead of google search, but every app to lock screen causes the fingerprint sensor to stop working without password.
I miss my old Xiaomi Mi 6
Someone knows how to do this?
you can install an app called "turn off screen (lock screen)" by redmanit from the play store. it gives you the option to put an icon on the homescreen or from your notifications drop down, press it and it'll lock your phone in 5 seconds. this is the only app i know of that works with the note 9's android 8.1
Nova launcher can do it as far as I know.
Installed a 3rd party screen off app. Using the widget Extended Date which then gives you the settings to show time/date/week/day/etc. There's a function to link to any app in this case screen off. Thus touching the date switches off the screen. Been using this setup way back when I still had my Note 2. Still works (both the screen off app and the widget).

Turn on the Assistant Menu. That has a lock button that will turn your screen off. It will not "lock" your phone, just turn off the screen. Screen locks @ whatever you've set as the lock out time (screen locks "x" number of seconds after pressing power button). If you want to "lock" it instantly, requiring password to open, I use Nova Launcher and a screen input gesture. That locks it instantly and requires, I think, your password - not your fingerprint.
See screenies for info.

Home button single press not working sometimes

Since I recently switched to a Galaxy S10+, I donated my Mi A2 to my girlfriend. After I fully wiped my phone, she installed it like any other new phone and finished the wizard. All her apps got reinstalled nicely and everything looked nice.
But now the home button (3 button nav) sometimes just stops responding to a single press. When I hold the button I do get the Google Assistant as expected, but single press doesn't take me to the home screen. After a reboot everything is back to normal, but only for a while. The button does show the colored dots when I press it.
What could be wrong? It looks a bit like some process is blocking it to prevent exiting a wizard or something (I had it once on a Pixal tablet, which thought I had the setup wizard open), but the back button does work as expected and I can navigate using different methods.

you need to.provide more info to get the right answer ..just use full screen navigation ...in settings try reassigning it different actions to see what happens ...but sounds like the delay between single press / long press for assistant is what is screwing you ...i disabled long press for assistant cos it kept giving me the assistant when i was trying to get home ....
but still.hard to say since you have 0 info about your problem here
The problem is that I don't have much more information as well. It's hard to reproduce the issue. We tried pinning and unpinning an app, opening different apps, changing the gestures, but nothing seems to trigger the issue.
I also tried gesture navigation, but that doesn't have a gesture for going directly back home. Also I think it's not possible to reassign the buttons on stock rom.
When I used the phone I never had this issue.

on my phone if i swipe up from bottom i go straight home ... by more info i mean
1. device/rom/version/root status/ launcher/ ...stuff like that
2.relevant fixes you tried ...
3. short video of when it happens
anyway .. i don't understand because you can choose what actions you want to happen in relation to the gestures ..so if you wanna go home in one shot assign that action to a specific gesture
have you ACTUALLY tried my fix of disabling google assistant ..so you don't trigger assistant or freeze by holding home button too long ..
try assigning double tap on home to go home ..as a workaround
The phone has no customizations at all: stock rom (Android One), no root, default Xiaomi launcher.
Version: Android 10, march security update (up to date according to Xiaomi)
With the gestures I can choose between:
- navigation using gestures
- navigation using 2 buttons (this is selected)
- navigation using 3 buttons
I have tried the first option. Swiping up does indeed go to the home screen when I'm in an app. But not to my default screen. Like when I swiped right to a different home screen page, it doesn't return to the first one.
I will try disabling opening the Assistant using the home button.

you should downgrade to pie because in 10 many people have lag , ui feezing and later on random reboots.. i think you will find in a month or two the UI will freeze up ..like what is happening now may be a "mini" freeze
pie is stable.. im on miui 12 official pie for wayne and wow am glad i dithed android1 and gave up my obsession of having 10 ..
I just upgraded because Xiaomi pushed the upgrade. And my girlfriend doesn't know how to downgrade.
Besides, I have been using the same phone with the same Android version for a few months without any issues. It's only since she started using it. That's why I was thinking about some wizard/setup preventing the use of the home button, which we had a few years ago on a tablet. But that was blocking more buttons then, so not exactly the same.
