Hello!! I am just trying to find out how we can unlock the phones that we bought from different carrier providers and how to upgrade them manually...
Since, I don't have a carrier based phone, I'm short of ideas on this topic. So, is there anyone who has upgraded to gingerbread in a carrier based rom, please make sure you reply with all the details.
Also, I especially want to know about upgrading in a Vodafone - Italy galaxy mini phone. If anyone had tried it please share it here.
Thanks!!!
Hey
I have a carrier based phone (Comcel in Colombia) and I upgraded to GB without any problems (I used ODIN to flash GB).
SIM gets unlocked due to the fact that the whole filesystem gets rewritten, so I'd say that there's no problem in flashing different version of the OS on carrier based devices.
The only way that would be a problem is if the carrier has custom apps that report back (kinda like Verizon does in the US with some HTC devices).
For the Italian Vodafone, sorry I can't help you with that

Okk so you mean you can now use sim card from any provider after you flashed gb.... Also, will it have any effects on the performance of phone and what will happen if teh carrier gets to know about it???

Yeah, phone's now SIM unlocked, regarding perfomance (besides the obvious Froyo to GB performanc boost) there's no discernable change, there shouldn't be any change unless you're flashing a non-compatible ROM (EU rom on a 5570L or viceversa).
I'm not a lawyer but from what I've heard the only way a carrier can find out that you have a custom ROM is if you take your phone for repairs and all they can do is void your warranty, nothing more, althought I'd check the service contract in case there's something hidden in there.
Is there any stock firmware for 920C that does not have whatsapp preinstalled, in the S6 there was the one of BTU CSC but for the Note I could not find?

hi,
i sure it will depend what you looking for.?
Branded or unbranded stock Rom ? (local or international)
example.. I have a Note5 920 C device stock, not rooted and branded Vodacom software on device. ( basically same as Vodafone branded, same company. )
It has no WhatsApp installed.
So yes, you will find some stock Roms without WhatsApp.
Good luck

Thanks for your reply.
I prefer unbranded roms but couldn't find any, or even branded network unlocked. I can go with branded but without network lock.
What is the CSC for your device? Is it network locked or not? I may use it even it is branded.
Thanks

hi,
firstly,
no, its not network lock. My CSC is
N920COJV2AOJ3
However, point i was making, was to point you in the direction of maybe checking Vodafone Uk software (should be same, no WhatsApp.. not sure)
Yes, my software is branded software,
Only irritation, is the branded splashscreen. The extra pre installed apps, can be mostly be deleted or disabled.
Regarding the unbranded software.. .. the few i flashed with my old Note 4, mostly all had WhatsApp.. I think BTU, did not... not sure..?
Point is, there is Note5 Roms, without the WhatsApp pre installed.
Good luck

Thanks willcor, unfortunately Note 5 was not introduced in Europe and so no firmware for UK or any other country in Europe.
So do you have a link for your firmware as I don't know which one is it on sammobile firmwares? Which country?
Thanks

hi ,
here is the link re Samsmobile..(South Africa )
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/58392/N920CXXU2AOJ5_N920COJV2AOJ3_XFV/
se screenshot below .( You will see its listed also as a Vodafone software )
Just do your "homework" that you are satisfied all is in order.
(Device model no, or don't flash older software than your current Rom, re bootloader... etc etc .)
Bottom line is,
if you have any issues, flash your device latest, correct updated Rom.
Just to note ...,
with my old Note 2..,. Note 3 and Note 4.
i had branded Vodacom/Vodafone firmware and was able to flash all other unbranded ROMS ..eg ..Germany ,BTU ,Nordic countries ( NEE ) ,Netherlands etc etc .
good luck

Hi ,
Strange,
as i got no Whatsapp, on my stock ,non rooted Note 5, installed etc .
Never ever had and i have phone since Oct 2015.( but then my software on device was pre installed )
Anycase ,i feel like you ...i also don' t fancy it .??
I don't need it and if i am on my laptop /phone /internet it's amazing all the" spam / tricks /cons " that pop up .??
...eg ..Your Whatsapp version is outdated ,plse update to new version...click here..!!!!!!
( ...then like i stated i never ever had this " app" installed ..!!)
Why don't you disable it in Application Manager or if rooted uninstall it with root app Titanium Backup ?
Good luck in your quest.
Hello guys,
I saw on the forum of the M20P that there's a tool used to update the device using a locked BL.
I wanted to know if anyone of you tried this, and if yes, can you tell us the result
I really don't know if this method could actually works on our device...
There's the thread link : https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20-pro/how-to/manual-upgrading-mate-20-pro-bl-locked-t3905924
Thks guys for your help with the community :fingers-crossed:
I'll answer to myself,
I tested the method just above, and yes I managed to update my M20 to 9.0.0.237
I followed this tutorial video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp4k3uFDxf4 , and i used the tool listed on the thread I linked in OP.
There's a screenshot of my phone showing the version and the security patch I have now.
For the next updates, you have the choice guys, you can use Firmware Finder app on the playstore or use this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20/how-to/guide-manual-updating-firmware-t3892686.
BTW, thx to @OldDroid and @mikeos for their amazing job
I have HMA-L09 (single SIM) C432E10R1P16
Vodafone brand on the box, but software is unbranded, no vodafone crap stuff nor bootlogo, infact is C432
Just after turning on after hard reset I saw something branded, but 100% uninstallable
So, should I upgrade with this method, I'll definitely get rid of brand? and will I lose my data?
Of course I have locked BL, I used to have rooted phone since my first Android 2.1, so sad
Hey guys,
I've been up and down the forums looking for answers and come out thoroughly confused, so thought it would be best to ask for help from the professionals.
I am in New Zealand and have recently purchased an imported S10 from the states (site never said it was imported, would have gone local had I known), model SM-G973U. I've since realised that the phone will not update, and has been stuck on the June security patch since I got it. Contacted Samsung NZ and they said that because the phone isn't approved by my local carrier (Spark) no updates are getting pushed through.
I've thought of flashing a Spark-based version of the phone so I can receive updates but because the local versions of this phone are a different model (SM-G973F) I'm worried whether this will even work or if it will brick my phone entirely.
Is this something I can safely do, or will I have to resort to flashing updates manually?
Thanks guys, these forums really are great.

Hi dude,
Don't try to update your G973U with a G973F firmware coz SoC of those devices are different ! Your model has a snapdragon but G973F (international S10 version) has an Exynos (Samsung made chipset).
What you can do if you really want to update it is to download this firmware and flash it through latest Odin (google or youtube this if you don't know how to proceed).
P.S. Firmware I linked here is the USA unbranded one, idk really know if this CSC will support your local carrier so make a backup of your device before processing !
Hey sorry I've been too caught up in life to try this until now, but I gave that firmware a go, flashed it with the latest odin and it's worked without a hitch, carrier settings intact and all.
Thanks for the guidance!

Hello everyone I live in th u.s. and use my a71 on att. I bought my phone at rent a center and it has buc1 firmware and the csc is TTT (Trinidad and tobago). I would like to install a custom rom because I recently rooted and the smartview feature which I use often isn't working right and none of the fixes are either. My question is this: which firmware should I install to get a clean slate and possibly try a custom rom? Not sure why a phone in the US was sold with Trinidad firmware. I would prefer not to flash the stock ttt firmware if possible is there a better option? Thanks guys
hi friend, I have been almost in same situation (different country) and i would like to share with you my experience maybe it will help if you are still looking. some options / features included in the ROM / OS depend on where the device was sold or aimed to be sold initially by Samsung, for example 2 phones same model, same tech specs, same android version, if one is old in Europe with a certain firmware, it may not have same all options / features as same one sold in US or elsewhere .... i bought a device sold initially in Italy and couldn't find samsung pay or fm radio app in it (even that device does support it from hardware side) and not possible to install it as third-partie app either in anyway possible, and it didnt show up even with a custom ROM .... so i did some dig in and found THAILAND firmware for same android version have it by default + others things i was looking for such as native call recording .... basically long story short, as longer you already rooted it, we can forget about warranty, which should gives you more freedom to install wharever you want ... a custom rom is specially to enhance perf by removing some apps and adding some more features that arents includeed in stock firmware ... but if you are okay with basic stock firmware and all its apps and contenents you don't have to install ncessarry a custom rom ... you can juts look for a specific firmware REGION/COUNTRY that have the option you are looking for and go fo it, like i did from Italy to Thailand (while im living in whole different country of those two), and all will be working fine for you ^^
