Before when I connected my Note to my laptop a notification would pop up on the phone asking if I want to grant access. It doesn't do it any more. I'm not mad, I just wonder what changed. My Android security patch level is May 1, 2018 so I don't think it was an update.

Mine only does that once per computer unless I reset my phone. There may be a setting somewhere for that.

Could somebody please remind me what it is I have to do to enable drag-and-drop N6 to PC connection over USB? I've got USB debugging switched on under Developer Options, but I know there's another tick or setting somewhere that I need to do first, and can't remember what it is! At the moment my N6 is recognised by the PC, but is shown as being completely empty. Many thanks.
Hi, just drop down the notification bar and select mtp.

YES! That's the one. I'm very grateful, many thanks.
Seems a bug in Marshmallow - I used to have MTP selected and it was always enabled automatically when connecting to a PC. Now, each time I connect to the PC via USB the phone defaults back to Charging Only.
This was a minor hassle from earlier Droid Incredible days that I did not expect to revisit.

It's more like a last minute security patch, because this way you will have to unlock your phone before having access to your files.

I already had to do that when the USB selection was being saved between connections to the PC, actually - if my phone was locked when connecting, I had to unlock for the USB connection to fully enable. But, it always did so with my previously set mode (i.e., MTP).
So, I see no reason for this latest behavior, which is just a dumb hassle and/or a bug, IMHO.

As I remember, in Lollipop you connected the cable, and the files became available on your computer. Unlock wasn't necessary.

If my phone was locked for a certain period of time, I had to unlock for file - level access via USB when just connecting
Similar issue if the phone was connected via USB for awhile and had become locked for some (unknown) period of time before I went to access its files since the prior access.

I have a problem of not being able to switch from charging to mtp on USB, no mater what I do. Running 6.0.
I have a Nexus 5X running Android Oreo and after installing the latest November 5 security patch update, my car doesn't detect Android Auto on my phone at all. I get a message stating no Android Auto compatible phone is plugged in. It used to work without any issues whatsoever earlier.
I've tried my friend's phone which is a Pixel 2 and it works flawlessly with my car/cable. Even the Pixel 2 has Android Oreo and the November security patch update.
I've tried the following fixes:
1. Clearing data/cache of Android Auto app.
2. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Android Auto app.
3. Checking permissions of the app.
If there anything else I can try before I resort to Factory Data reset?
??? where you get November update? apkmirror only show oct update. can share?

I don't know exactly which update it is. The security patch level is shown as November 5. I got it OTA.
It's not an update to the actual Android Auto app that is causing the problem. It appears that the problem is with the November Android security update. There are a ton of threads on the "official" Android Auto support forum that are, of course, getting no responses from anyone inside Google.
Go in and activate developer mode on the 5x. Then turn on usb debugging. Fixed my wife's 5x after the update.
Fixed mine in my 2018 Honda Civic Hatch. Was working fine then just wouldn't connect at all. Tried all above fixes, new cables, reset head unit and phone, nothing worked. Last night I remembered I am on the Google Maps beta, so I deleted that apps updates. I also found in my head units menu, a setting to restore Android Auto to default. Now it is working without any issues. I don't know which thing fixed it, but maybe someone else can try one fix at a time...
First off, I would like to thank each and every one of you for keeping the forum active and helping out lowbies like myself with problems such as the ones I am going to explain. With that aside, Ill cut to the chase.

I have a Verizon Note9. SM-N960U. Its on Android 9; build # is PPR1.180610.011.N960USQS3CSK1. Android security patch level is December 1st, 2019.
Now, ACCORDING to the Verizon software update website, "QP1A.190711.020.N960USQU3DTAA" is out. Which is what my Note9 should be on? (Android 10... Me, having daily driven Android 9 for a year and a half now, I want the android 10 update as I have it on my Pixel4XL and absolutely love it, aside from all of the other benefits it offers.)
~Here are some of the issues I am facing.
-Smart Switch does recognize my phone, but it does not say there is an update available.
-Samsung/Verizon software Assistant does NOT recognize my phone when I plug it into my computer. I have used factory cord (USB-C to USB), USB-C (double ended USB-C), USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, etc.... and nothing makes the program recognize my phone. I am stumped on that, but I don't want to keep stressing over it.
-OTA updates, not only NEVER come in timely fashion, but on this phone they just don't come in at all, for whatever reason. It has in the past, and I have bricked this phone before (whether it was me trying to get Android9 or 10 early), which required me to flash stock firmware (Android 9, December 2019 patch) - and I am sure it is the culprit for why I cannot OTA my phone, but I am clueless and here begging for help.
~I go onto SamMobile or FirmwareScience and I cannot for the LIFE of me, find CSK1-DTAA. CSK1 is the software I am currently on, and DTAA being the Android 10, that I am trying to get on.
I know that there is probably an update AFTER CSK1 that I am missing that I would need in order to seamlessly go from CSK1 to DTAA, but again, I cannot find it. Maybe I am blind and dumb.
What I am essentially asking, is if anyone knows the correct firmware AFTER CSK1 that I could flash from SD card. Then possibly after I do that, get the next firmware, flash that, and so on, until eventually I can finally hop into Android 10.
Not sure what other info I am needing to include, so if there is anything I need to add, let me know and I will immediately do so.
THANK YOU EVERYONE

I saw someone mention this site has the latest vzw updates. You can download this and flash with odin presumably
https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-N960U/VZW
I would recommend installing OS updates via OTA to avoid any issues. If by any rare chance that you do encounter an issue, I would recommend that you reinstall the OS manually using Odin.
Ever since I got my phone, I've always had to go to a UbreakiFix store to update my phone, because every time I check for updates I get a message saying that my software is up to date. My phone is still on the December 2020 patch with One UI 3.0. That last time I had to update, a UBreakiFix store was able to do it. That store is about an hour away from me though.
I've connected to Smart Switch on my PC and it also claims that my software is up to date, even though I know for a fact that isn't the case.
I've had a lot of problems with my WiFi, such as WiFi calling not working, to things like online gaming not being possible because of NAT restrictions.
I have no access to the WiFi settings, as I am renting a room out of a house and the homeowner is the one with full control of the network. It's a Netgear Orbi mesh system. I have tried tweaking settings in the past, but only under their supervision. I couldn't ever get online gaming or WiFi calling to work. What's even more frustrating is that AT&T only allows you to check for updates only once every 24 hours.
What would be a good way to test my theory? I need a WiFi network that would allow OTA updates to be downloaded, and I need to be able to check for updates. Any ideas?
Also, is Smart Switch always right about updates?
TLDR; Phone claims it's up to date when it isn't and I suspect my WiFi network is the problem. Need to test that theory.
Connect to any wifi at a store or cafe or friend/relative house. Many cable isp offer wifi connection outside of home try that.
Are you sure that at&t pushed out newer update?

The most recent update with OneUI 3.1 got halted by Samsung but I need the security patch update, not the OneUI 3.1 update. So then if that update is pulled, is it possible that I wouldn't be able to receive the January security patch too?

the 3.1 update has already begun rolling out again, I got it myself a few days back. you're in New Mexico ? when I was in the states Wendy's had unlocked Wi-Fi (if you can actually go in there is another matter) but just outside a building with open Wi-Fi should be enough to run an update check.
or if you can stand the agony of waiting longer on a download, try a free VPN app to check and download.
Actually I'm from Seattle, I just need to change my details on my profile. I used to live in New Mexico.
I've heard that the update is only rolling out in Europe right now.
that might be true honestly I don't know. but if you're still behind on previous security updates they should be waiting for you.
worth giving a vpn a try for one off use.
many if not most of the free ones do sell users data and some even ask for device usage permissions which they don't need at all, so maybe test your theory and then delete it.
I called AT&T, they mentioned nothing about being able to push an update, they said that if the baseband and the build number match that I am up to date, and they referred me to Samsung. Samsung said that "not all S20 FE devices are receiving the January security update, not to worry, your device is up to date."
No. It isn't. They both couldn't be any more wrong.
UPDATE: After some googling I found this page of Samsung S20 FE firmware images, but ATT isn't in that list.
Hi all,
I'm quite sure its a bit of a moot point but... was wondering if it was possible to get just the security for the PIxel 4 XL.
The final update for this phone was February 2023; however, for whatever reason, they chose to stick with the security update from October 2022
(13.0.0 (TP1A.221005.002.B2, Feb 2023))
I use this phone as a BYOD for work and they require a security update newer than Nov 2022 (so close lol). I get it, its an old device but was wondering if there was a way to do so - I doubt it though, this is just a reach.
As I imagine a corp device does not support root either, I most likely will have to replace the device.. just checking before I do so. Thanks!
