I bought a new bluetooth headset with APTX, but unfortunately the Huawei Mate 10 Pro phone doesn't work properly with it. If I use the equalizer bass boost in any MP3 player, the sound becomes distorted. I can choose only SBC or APTX bluetooth audio codec on the developer settings and this fault is present in both settings.
The headset works perfectly with other types of devices, for example Huawei P7 with Android 6, Samsung Tab A6 with Androud 7.0 and Huawei P20 Pro with Android 8.1.
Did anyone else experience same thing?
I have more or less the same problem..
Low volume and poor quality..

What version are you running? (Kernel compilation date) this was solved for the European variant a few months ago already.
Anywho yeah you only will be able to choose between SBC and aptx since EMUI doesn't support AAC yet. (Even though the Huawei free Buds supposedly works with AAC ?).

My phone improved Bluetooth quality with an update that came around begining of begining of April and it was released to everyone around May, it was the B137 for C432 (European variant), and I think it got better now with the B142 (may/June update).
Try to see on firmware finder if there is an update available for your phone, and if you can force the ota, cuz this should've been solved long ago.

My phone (C432 too) has B142 firmware. I refreshed it last week from B135.
Now the build number of my phone is BLA-L09 8.0.0.142(C432)
I must wait the official upgrade, otherwise I will lose the guarantee.

Tried resetting the phone back it its default?
Every update I made wasn't via OTA it was a clean install via funky Huawei, so idk if this matters.
Send your phone to repair if it doesn't get better
Just have some awesome news, B146 update finally adds AAC support for BT audio.

distorted and very thin sound when using the equalizer was solved after getting android pie 9.0.0.159 (c185) yesterday here in KSA. before i have the same problem in all Oreo firmware. :good:
Interesting, my experience is the opposite. Nice audio with 8, dirty and tinny articles in the audio after.

I've just ordered a Nokia 8 because I thought it ticked all my boxes, but worryingly now that I've paid for it (it hasn't arrived yet) I see that I forgot to check for AptX codec, and I use aptx bluetooth headphones extensively. GSM Arena and other spec sites say that it does not have AptX.
Schoolboy error there, but I've not owned a phone without aptx for years, going back to the Xperia Z1
Hoping for some news that it's possible, maybe with the Oreo update?
Qualcomm are bragging about how aptx is coded in silicone on the 835 too

A commentator on reddit claims these are null-ops on Nokia 8, that the options don't stick if you exit the menu and come back in, and they don't make any difference.
I guess Nokia just didn't pay the license fee, and due to the locked bootloader we can't twrp flash a driver file (or, can we somehow?)
I'll have to wait until I get the Oreo update to test it myself, UK hasn't got that yet
Same here, I didn't think of checking whether such an advanced phone as the N8 supported aptX...has there been any progress on this issue?
It doesn't support AptX, if you select it, leave the menu and then go back in it will have deselected it as it is unsupported.
Right and while streaming music to aptX headphones you can see that selecting aptX does not actually switch the stream, you can only switch between sbc and aac.
Maybe Pie will change that like it did on the Nokia 7 apparently...
I have noticed this is a widespread issue and I've decided to raise it. This needs to be fixed and Huawei should stop ignoring this problem. The Bluetooth is basically crippled and locked to SBC. I've tested multiple devices and all exhibited this behaviour. Why is it ignored? Are all the reviews fake?

i read that Bluetooth options in pixel dont stick too. so it must be some wierd oreo crap. you cant even change gpu renderer. it always defaults back. best way to handle that is to chat with huawei support and check it out.
I don't use Bluetooth very much but it appears to be the same for the regular Mate 10 as well. I'm currently using my virtual desktop so I could not test if after changing the setting in developer mode does it stick after a reboot?
this confusion is due to a lack of follow-through. all oreo devices have this "issue". it's not an issue at all. if a connected bluetooth device supports these codecs, the best one will automatically be selected. it is not limited to huawei devices. this is normal and does not affect functionality. you should take down this thread so no one throws any fits for no reason.
Well mine switches to aptX automatically when I connect to aptX-compatible devices. However you are correct that I cannot manually change it in developer settings.
Further testing has shown this issue not to be an issue, I've managed to successfully connect to an APTX device and the codec was selected. Video removed. Apologies for this confusion.

It's not crippled, it's buggy.
SBC and aptX have high noise floor and specially on SBC, it causes some deformations to the Audio.
AAC is totally broken.

I have no issues with my Bluetooth headphones, the Sony WH-1000NX2
The highest quality of transmission is selected automatically, LDAC, that's 990 kbit/s
It's the best Bluetooth can do in the Audio section.
The Sony headphone App confirms the LDAC connection
i am trying my friend's MDR 1000x. i tried both SBC and LDAC. Now I can't go back to LDAC. Help please
Aac not working on p20 pro, works fine on the pixel 2
Bull****.
AAC No longer works on my head unit and my Bose QC35 Headphones.
It worked perfectly before 8.0.0.128 update.
Factory Reset does not work, nothing works. It refuses to use anything else than ****ty SBC.

I don't have a clue what you guys talking about with all those 3 and 4 letter/digit combinations of names but i feel I've gotta share i use Bluetooth all day long for different kinds of profiles and i mean all day long, and to say this doesn't fail nearly as much as nougat did would mean i imply it does fail to a certain, however small, degree, which isn't even close to being the case, so... But i do notice the in band ringing settings don't stick just like they don't stick in my Oreo S5...
I've had Android phones since 2012 and the Huawei mate 10 pro is the only one with Bluetooth issues. Constantly dropping parts of songs when connected to my mazda 6. Infuriating to say the least. The most expensive phone I've ever had....
Good news, new security patch is out for our Z2 Force here in germany and maybe europe (it's reteu channel, so it should) for retail version, but it's still android 8.0.0.
I also got the November patch this morning.
Software channel: amxmx (Telcel Mexico)
Android Version: 8.0.0
Current Version: OPXS27.109-49-12
Security patch level: November 1, 2018

Yes, for sure, but we should enjoy the last oreo days No reason to root this phone. It's up to date, more than my other devices (Z Play with Pie on 5.10. patch, P8 Lite 2015 with Nougat on 5.09.(with custom roms, no official support anymore)). And Pie is coming very soon. Great phone ?

There are various reasons to root this phone.
(Mainly 2 for me)
1. Enable the Audio Offloading
2. Use Viper4Android Fx
3. Use Adaway
Other optional uses also..
Also some weird issues like only headphone (w/o mic) icon in status bar when using earpods..
I have to currently use Moto Z (running LineageOS 15.1) due to this and tired charging it 4times a day. It seems i have to wait 1month more for Pie and hope these issues are fixed

You are right, biggest problem is audio over usb-c, that's why I'm using a bluetooth headset. And now the sound is strong and good. But that's not the perfect way, every 6h the battery of the headset are going down. I would more like to get good audio out of type C. But it's ok with bluetooth. I have JBL.
Yes, I'm doing much with the Z Play, the most of all. There is no other good way to using Pie now

I too have a JBL T110BT headset apart from the battrey dying in 5-6hrs it doesn't have a strong base and qlty like mine weird Sennheiser and Earpods. I tried using the Viper , only i can get is 44Khz sampling rate (compared to 48khz) , no Playback gain , apart from that i cannot change mine codec from SBC to aptxHD. Can you plz tell me how to use aptxhD or does it depend on the BT device..?

Here it is an JBL tune 205bt, maybe almost the same.
And don't know, here I can't change it, too. Maybe just for certified bluetooth devices? But sound on bluetooth is here really great, much better as on type c. So, it's really good enough. Better maybe just with very expensive headsets.

Hello guys !
I just updated my MIUI ROM from Android 8 to Android 9. Since I have this one, my Bose QC35 II connected via Bluetooth uses the SBC Codec, which delivers a bad quality comparing to AAC. I tried to change this via the developer options, but when I set to AAC it always comes back to SBC. When I was on Android 8, I had the AAC.
Do you know how can I change that ? I'm on MIUI 10.1.1.0 Global
Thanks a lot, hope my english is understandable
I didn't find a solution, always on SBC Codec which the sound quality quite bad. If anyone has a solution
Isn't Aac a iPhone/apple thing....?
Anyways you can force a specific output mode in developers settings.
My mi8 on global beta defaults to aptx when using my Bluetooth headset.

No it isn't, it's a classical codec. I tried to force it, but it always goes back to SBC, here is my problem !
What I meant is that aptx is superior in every way.
But I guess the BT device your using is aimed at iphones and doesn't support aptx ?
Maybe try and switch to global beta and check if the issue was fixed.

Same thing on my mi mix 2s. While everything works just fine with an Nvidia shield and Android pie. So it's xiaomi fault. I'm Very disappointed because SBC is really inferior.
Try developer mode!
Already tried on dev mod, doesn't change anything. When you set on AAC, the phone simply doesn't care, hope it will be corrected in an update !
Now I am having the same problem and couldn't find any solution. In Developer options, my arrangements revert to old ones when close, they don't stick. I have Android 8 MIUI 10 Xiaomi Mi6. Via Magisk Manager, I flashed codecs and necessary modules to my phone but nothing's changed. when i connect my JBL Free to my phone, SBC logo right next to the earphone's name is there. Before I lose my mind, someone please help me! I am inexperienced to this complex Android world :crying:
I'd start by posting in the correct MI6 subforum
You can use PowerAmp, it can force better audio codec (by cable and BT).
Have you tried it ? It doesn't work
Just a quick update, since the last update 10.2.3.0, i've got the AAC when using my Bose QC-35 The sound quality is waaaaayyyy better than before. Thx Xiaomi !

I didn't receive BT fix with my new update and I dont believe I will I bought Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Earbuds and I rarely have stutters thanks to aptX but if codecs were good I would have perfect connection with these earbuds.
I'm afraid you just have to turn on BT in order to change BT CODEC
Hi all,
Would like to check if there is any way of installing APTX-HD on rooted note 9?
I've tried multiple methods including APTX for Android Oreo & Pie from Magisk.
May i know if anybody has gotten it to work?

From what i heard APTX-HD will not work correctly on a Note 9! As it needs to send tons of bluetooth packets it will skip cut out etc, that's why the devs did not include it! LDAC is the best, stick with that codec!

I have several apt-x HD supported devices and I never got it to work. LDAC support is fantastic, as is standard APT-X.
Using sony WH-1000xm2 when selecting SBC, AAC, APT-X or LDAC from developer options will briefly stop the sound whilst it jumps to that codec, no such luck with APT-X HD. I don't believe that the codec is actually implemented on the Note9.
AptX-HD was supported on the Oreo version of the Note9.
I have two Level Pro headphones and after the Android Pie update lost the UHQ audio function from the Level app.
If you looked, you got LDAC and SBC, no AptX or HD.
Then I submit a bug report and they only brought back AptX on the latest version.
I think Samsung it's just trying to push their new Buds as the Level brand is being discounted in many markets.
Also Video Pro Mode was available on the Note9 and removed on the Pie update.
Now I can add my wife had the S8 Plus and she lost the UHQ audio from her Level app.
She went back to Apple at this time as they have better codec support.
Personally I am planning to get the Xperia that has 4K screen and yes, a long list of audio codecs and features.
Samsung keeps playing games, Qualcomm still supports Apt LL and HD, the hardware supports it but it is Samsung decision to remove it.
What's happening with aptx support in Android 10?
When Samsung removed AptX in Android Pie, I send an actual bug report with their support team, it was a pain, because they ask you to reset it then jump hoops.
At the end, they acknowledged that AptX should be "At least supported" because their line of Level headphones run on AptX and AptX HD.
Then I can say, with the next update, they added AptX to the list of supported codec.
Sony and many others are pushing LDAC for their headphones so probably just drop Samsung.

I'm on a Sprint Note9(Snapdragon) UI. 2.0. Android 10.
The big difference is AptX supports 16Bit 48KHz and AptXhd support 24Bits also 48 KHz.
Here screenshots.
