Hello!
Right now, I'm a Samsung S8 user due to its release on dex mode. In near time, I'm planning to change to P20 Pro (actually, any Huawei phone with easy projection system)..
I'm using hp lap dock on my S8 to have a portable laptop experience.. But I'm wondering whether easy projection works on HP lapdock out of the box? (since Samsung dex system runs with some problems with it).
Anyone can share experience?
Ask to try a demo unit at a store with your lapdock.

Sadly, not yet, and I couldn't check it out either, because P20 Pro is not officially available in my country yet, so there are no place to check the compability...
Wouldn't take a risk, so I still stay on my rooted galaxy S8..

i have tried to connect an Huawei p20 with same results. Looks like keyboard is the only thing connecting... Both Phone and lapdock on latest Firmware.
I tried with a Mate 20 x. Wired or wireless is a no go. The weird part is that I can screen cast with my Galaxy Note 9 but not with the Mate 20 x. I though this was standard protocol.
i tried a huawei mate 20 pro as well. Did not work wired and wireless. i updated the wireless firmware to the latest. just the keyboard seems to work.
Did someone updated the wired firmware and tried it?

Is any developer reading this thread? Especially from Phoenix.
I'd like to read the dmesg (or equivalent for the right daemon). I suspect the kernel build in the 8.1 release for the P20, does not handle DP over USB-C properly. Either power handling or resolution. hotplug events during modeset? Any powerstate change errors?
In case anyone can make sense out of this, so far I believe it's kernel related.
Mate 10 Pro did not work with Microsoft Display dock.
P20 Pro does
Mate 10 Pro worked with the apple USB-C to HDMI dongle. But in 720p only
P20 Pro works with the same dongle, but in 1080p
Macbook Pro can connect to the Lap Dock and use it in 720p or 1080p.
The Microsoft Display Dock also supports 1080p. So why on earth can the P20 "talk" to the display dock fine but not the lap dock? It can't be just resolution setting. I believe the Note 9 supports the same resolutions. In reddit, it appears someone at least, got their Mate 20 Pro connected. So I suspect it's how Display Port alternat mode is handled, precisely how the host device is detected, that is the issue. Hence, dmesg could help.
Anyone able to upgrade to 9.0 pie with a lap dock can try? Mine won't upgrade, HiSuite keeps complaining that I am not connected to the internet! I tried 5.0.1.300, 5.0.2.300, 8.0.1.300 all to no avail.
So my Huawei Mate 20 PD has worked on lapdock. After a few tries of disconnecting and reconnecting it worked.

I haven't gotten my m20x to work yet with it. What error were you getting that was fixed by just plugging/unplugging a few times? At first I thought it was the cable, so I got a thunderbolt 3 cable. I get a different error now but still no dice. Works on my Razer phone 2.

Hi,
I just got a new car and I am trying to connect my P20 Pro through mirrorlink. I searched over the internet but I didn't get any clear answer so far. So, does anyone know if P20 Pro supports mirrorlink (wireless)?
If yes, how can I connect it?
Thank you in advance,
Kostas

Hi,
I connected my P20 Pro with cable with my car. In the car I got the message that a mirrorlink device recognized and in my P20 Pro I got the screen in the attached picture. Actually, the phone automatically moved to landscape mode (even if it was locked to portrait) and it stacked with this message. There were no response from the device until I removed the usb. It seems that there is something more than this message on this screen but it cannot scroll down. I tried with 2 more P20 Pro and with one Mate 10 Pro and I got exactly the same response.
Can anyone help me?

How many MirrorLink apps do you have installed?

At least one for sure: Spotify
Same situation for me.
Any new information for this?
Thank you.

Spotify by itself is NOT MirrorLink-compatible/licenced. You need to install "RockScout, by MirrorLink" aside Spotify.
As soon as your phone is connected via MirrorLink to your car use the display of your car-entertainment - system instead. That's what mirrorlink is for.
You can try "Parkopedia" from the google play store. This one is MirrorLink-compatible/licenced and free.
Same problem here...
Although Honda inforteinment system works good with my wife's s8+ cannot Connect to P20 pro...
Anyone who managed make it work?
Mirrorlink not picking up P20 Pro
Hi, can anyone please assist. My Toyota fortuner is not picking up my Huawei p20 pro, even with USB cable. Is there a setting on the phone that needs to be active for Mirrorlink to connect or do i need a specific type of USB cable?

Same problem with P20Pro and Mirrorlink on Suzuki Baleno 2018. Same error message as earlier poster - phone displays a mirrorlink connected message but car display just keeps saying Connect Phone. Tried several cables and have the Sygic Car Navigation App installed on the phone.

P20 Pro / Skoda / Fails
Hello.
I see the same issue with my P20 pro CLT-L09. Skoda Karoq 2017. Android Auto works. Mirrorlink not. Tried different cables. Have installed "Rockscout" and "Full MirrorLink | Floating Apps for Auto". Not working. It can't connect. Anyone with P20 pro that managed to do it?

Hi guys, Huawei Mate 20 Lite support Desktop Mode? Can it possibile use Samsung dex station to activate it?
Regards
No that is not possible
Nope, that's samsung.
Wrong device mate
So the Mate 20 Lite dosent have the Desktop mode option like its bigger brothers the Mate 20 And mate 20 Pro? Would like to buy a Lite but i like the Desktop function and cant find any info if the 20 lite have it or not. Thanks guys!
I was wondering about that too. Shouldn't it be possible to unlock that feature on the Mate 20 Lite?

No
There is no function like that in any Huawei device. The Samsung DeX is a feature ONLY to SOME Samsung devices

Why would you assume we're talking about DeX?
This thread is about the desktop mode, and lots of Huawei devices (Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, P20, P20 Pro, Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro) have that, either under the name Easy Projection or EMUI Desktop mode. Which is actually said to be superior to DeX (haven't tried any of them yet).
Anyway, BTT: I found out it's actually not possible with the lite devices because they don't support USB 3.1.

You dont need USB 3.1 because it should work wirelessly too and the function is called wirelesses projection, with it you can go in desktop mode on your TV or mirror sharing but i dont know why they didnt made the desktop mode available for the mate 20 lite too with the EMUI 9 update.
Yeah I know, but the OP (I assume) and me are not looking for the wireless option (which indeed is missing from the lite's ROM). That requires the display and the phone to be connected to the same wifi which is rarely the case. Monitors and projectors usually have no wifi, and not every TV you might wanna use (whether when you're staying at someone's home or in a hotel etc) is connected to a Wifi either. That limits its usage a lot. Plus I already have a USB-C hub with ethernet and HDMI-out, so I'd prefer to use that, gives me more options for periphery also.
As for why Huawei didn't include it in the lite's ROM, that's pretty simple: pricing. It's a lite version, so they felt they had to cut features artificially to make the regular and Pro models more attractive to potential buyers. That's pretty much what most if not all manufacturers do.
I actually asked Huawei yesterday regarding the Mate 20 lite and 30 lite, and this was their reply:
Unfortunately I can only inform you that Huawei Mate 20 lite does not support "easy Projection".
This is a feature which is supported by our full and pro models.
Unfortunately we don't have any information about the features of an upcoming Mate model at the moment.

However, if someone were able to port the EMUI 9 ROM of the higher models to the lite model (or probably to any phone?), I think it would probably work.

As far as i know you dont need your TV to be connected to a WIFI network nor the mobile. The devices(tv and mobile) connect to each other. Just watch some youtube videos about the desktop mode.
Oh and its pity that Huawei deiced not to implement the mode on their lite model, i would have bought one but i wont spend 500+ euros on a phone.
I guess it is only matter to port desktop mode "os" and some library to "setting" or external apk that do this
but I clearly know that we need someone able to put hands on it finger crossed
This is what I get from support :

I just think is a flag in the OS because I have EMUI 9.0.1 with WiFi Projection button but no Desktop Mode
But Android Q (Huawei promises Mate 20 lite will get) promises to have it so I wander if is going to be implemented or is going to be crippled in favor of the more expensive devices ...

Iam using emui 10 and when I connect phone via adapter+hdmi cable it didnt show any option of desktop mode.
Mate 20 lite have usb c-type 2.0, only c-type 3.1 have desktop support.
Wireless projection works fine for Mate 20 lite. I can connect my phone to my desktop and mirror my phone screen on my computer monitor through windows 10. Very simple, The audio is in sync through bluetooth headphones connected to my desktop. Windows 10 desktop mouse
operating my phone is very laggy. I suppose everything would work perfectly if I connected the phone directly to a wifi miracast enabled monitor. I thiink the desktop mode that works for the Mate 20 and mate 20 pro but not the mate 20 lite has nothing to do with the usb c standards. I think it is a software or app issue. I can only connect my mate 20 lite mirrored to a monitor. The desktop environment would be nice, but the only reason I would like to use it more often is that I have unlimited phone date but I think I have a 30gb tethering limit. I can stream video with Mate 20 Lite to my computer monitor through Windows 10 with audio in sync and that is what matters most to me.
How to:
Open Windows 10 action center - far right icon on taskbar
Click on connect icon
Click 'projection to this pc'
(or may be 'projection to this pc' submenu in settings)
choose network configuration - pin or not, etc.
On Mate 20 lite
settings - more connections - wireless projection
Then enter pin on your computer. voila.
My P30 Pro, my wife mate 20 Pro and my dad mate 20 don't have chrome cast option for whole device screen mirror. And the wireless projection not working at all. I been Google and seem to norm and no one seem to use this much.
App cast like Google photo and YouTube is fine.

Yes, same issue here, the 'Wireless Projection' toggle brings up my Sony Android TV as an option but when i select it nothing happens. Within Youtube, Google Photos etc the cast feature works fine to the same TV. No issues with my previous Pixel or Samsung device.

Indeed. My old LG G6 and my dad Samsung chrome cast work fine. Guess it's huawei own issue in software?
What I found on my Sony Android TV, it will cast when you switch to wireless projection as "input" on TV, where you see the screen saying that it is ready for it.
On Samsung, it took few tries but the TV eventually accepted the cast.
The implementation may be buggy or not fully/widely compliant. Yet.
I suspect EMUI supports Miracast but not Chromecast when using that Wireless Projection action, which is a shame. You have to go through the Google Home app to chromecast screen content.
Hoping this is something Huawei could eventually add.
I am using my chrome cast and it is working fine.

Thank you for this. I'd been looking for a solution. I have a Sony Bravia XBR-55X900E and a Huawei P30 and couldn't get screen mirroring to work (although no problems with my Samsung S8). I'd seen that page on the TV by selecting the Screen Mirroring input but thought it was just a information page. Once that page is shown, I select Wireless Projection on my P30 and now the TV shows up for me to select it. (When I'm not on the Screen Mirroring input, I never see the TV as an option to select on my P30). I click on it and it connects. I wondered if that was a one-time setup thing and if I needed to select the Screen Mirroring input on subsequent connections. I found I do, so now I need to program a way to do that from my Harmony Remote Thanks for solving this for me!
Ignore this post, can't find the delete button.
Reading some ideas here I just came up with a method for Samsung 6300 series that seems to work:
- go to "connection guide" in the source menu
- enter to "mobile device" section and click the button that appears in it. Then the TV will appear in the devices list of the Wireless Projection in the Huawei phone. BUUUT still don't try to connect.
- Leave the connection manager in the TV (go to home, for example)
- now you can select the tv in the phone list and it will connect.
It worked for me twice. I'll have to test it more because I have the feeling the working of this wireless projection between Huawei phone and Samsung TV is a bit random. Hope it works for you.
Hi there,
I bought me a new TV some days ago with Android TV on it. It is a Philips 55 PUS 7304.
Everything works fine on the TV except wireless connection from my Huawei P30Pro.
I just don't see my TV when I turn it on. I even see the TV from my neighbour, but the Philips doesn't appear.
Somebody else got the Problem??
On my Tablet with Lineage OS the TV is there in a second and wireless connection works like a charm. On my Huawei P30Pro I can only stream inside of an app. I can send files to the TV, I can mirror my Netflix, Prime, Google Chrome etc. but I just don't get wireless connection ti run.
Please help me. What am I doing wrong?
Really nobody here with a Philips TV???
Does it work with a Philips with Android TV and the P30Pro for anyone?
I found that if you open up the Google Home app and find your chromecast in there there is a 'cast screen to TV' option - this works 100% fine on my P30 Pro.
As listed above, wireless projection only works if you find the 'mobile device' input of your TV.

Thats exactly what I wanted to test. Desktop mode seems to be a very cool feature but it doesn't work.
Does anyone know exactly why?
Is it really Wi-Fi Direct?
Really strange that such a big company like philips doesn't support this and nearly all others do.
@Nu72 This works for me too. But this doesn't support the Huawei Desktop mode. Otherwise I can cast my tablet too. This is a lineage Android one and it works without any google home.

My 2 cents. This May not be relevent to your issue ,but I also was having problems
I have the samsung leather case.
Opening is too small to properly seat USB C cable( the plug shoulders make contact with case) I removed case and seated USB cable and it worked.
I again say this may not apply.
