Hello
I've a SG Note8 SM-N950F/DS completely stock with the latest security patches installed as of 20/07/2018
About 2-3 days ago I noticed while browsing my Gallery that the download folder is nearly empty..I opened ES File Explorer and my worst fears were confirmed..the folder was nearly empty save for some PDFs..rest of the stuff was gone
However there are a few files which are dated much before the latest update and are still intact!!!!
There are 2 download folders Download and download (which have been there for quite some time now and for unknown reasons) - and both of them now have identical data (which wasn't the case before)
Storage space shows 34.22/53.12GB which shouldn't be the case if the files are really gone
Can anyone give me a clue here?????? I'm totally lost
Also I haven't used any file cleaning software
Update
The issue now stands resolved after I updated my Gallery app and My Files
ES Explorer wasn't showing any of my downloaded files and neither was the Gallery
But My Files showed everything and after the app update things are back to normal
Thank you all

When I download images from my gmail account it automatically saves to a folder called "download" and the files are automatically named "downloadfile," "downloadfile-1," "downloadfile-2" and so on. I would then move and rename the images I've downloaded into a different file to be more organized. BUT, when I download a new image from gmail, it appears in my Gallery as the image that was downloaded previously that shared the same "downloadfile" name. When I click on the image, the previous image appears for a second before the current image is shown. When I back out to tile view, the previous image appears again.
I've tried deleting the "download" folder but a new folder gets created when I download an new image and I still experience the same issue.
Has anyone else experienced this? How do I fix?
have you tried rebooting the device ?? ... i had a simmilar kind of an issue .. with a file showing up in the gallary when it was suppose not to show up in galary.. but a simple reeboot (switching off and switching on) got rid of the problem...
Yes, that was the first thing I've did (a few times too). I even took the battery out for good measure but I still have the same problem. :/
Update 2:
So now I can see most of the files with ES, but OI file manager isn't seeing them. What the heck is going on? Ghost files?
Alright, so I'm in a bit of a pickle.
I was having problems with Rdio and wanted to wipe all traces of it from my phone to install an older version. Using ES File Explorer, I searched for all the files related to the app in "/" and once I found them, I foolishly used select all and delete. Problem is, it seems "select all" actually selected all the folders in / and not only those found using the search function.
The odd part is I can see all the folders in / when I use OI file manager (though some are empty, namely /data and /datadata), but not when I use ES.
Does anybody have an idea as to what I can do? Odd thing is the phone is working fine and not all files on it have been deleted (the files inside EFS seem to have been though, but I still have signal). I'm afraid to reboot it since I figure it might become bricked. I've got a recent Nandroid backup which wasn't deleted, so I'll be fine if I can get to recovery, but is there any chance of that not happening?
Anyways, I'm feeling really dumb and stressed out.
Thanks for looking and/or helping!
Cheers!
Update
Making a call seems to have restored the files (.bak and others) in the efs folder and some other files seem to be reappearing. Maybe if I just wait it out all the files will come back from the dead? Files that weren't showing 10 minutes ago are back and are dated earlier than today.
Again, I'm mainly looking to know if I can reboot into recovery (or normally?) without many problems.
Thanks!
For many years I've used ES File Explorer - no problems, nice app.
This morning (after updating to 4.4 yesterday) File Commander (which I've never downloaded or used before) downloaded onto my Z1.
I'm 100% certain it wasn't there before - is it a new Sony app or part of 4.4?
I didn't ask for it to download ot anything, never experienced that before, it just started downloading and then I noticed it on the taskbar I checked to see what was updating but it was this app

Click to collapse
It's a defaut app, you can just disable it in the app settings and use ES File Explorer instead.
Hello - first post - just upgraded from note 3 4.4 to note 5 5.11
I'm a power user running snote and other apps for business purposes and take advantage of dropbox appearing accessible via snote etc integrated into the file menu structure.
I ran into this issue with my note 3 after a factory reset - dropbox had disappeared from "my files" and was no longer present as an option to save or import files in snote (previously had appeared as a toggle to open or save from files on phone or via Dropbox in snote. )
I randomly solved this issue on my note 3 - turned out to be a permission issue can't remember where but I had to allow dropbox access to my file structure and then it worked.
Fast forward to note 5 - I have been through this entire device and can't find anywhere to give dropbox permission to access the file structure or snote- currently can see the device in my dropbox admin window online and see that it claims to have full access to the device - yet it doesn't. I am basically having the exact same issue as I did with my note 3 after its reset - if these is anyone out there who can advise me to how to correctly integrate dropbox so it appears in the file structure of my note 5 in my files and snote would be appreciated.
Soon after having updated to oreo I started noticing something very odd: upon downloading, certain files cannot be found, or show up in the my files app or fx file manager app with the name, but when trying to access (e.g. open) are followed by an error on the lines of "need to reindex". I do just that, or refresh, or forceably stop one or both file managers, or reboot phone, but the files are eventually gone (not even showing up with the name). Anyone else having experienced this?
